Open the document attached and try to print it. Once you have confirmed the
print dialog you'll have OOo hanging and it will stop to respond. The document
has 7 pages and and several images. OOo takes an infinite time just to process
the first page. After a loong time sometimes it passes to the second.
Pratically it is blocked on the print spool.
The issue has been reproduced printing on 3 different printers.
Please take a look.
Printing this file with OOo 3.2.1 had no problem.

If you have a large spreadsheet with a great number of comments (notes) every
operation that involves moving or copying the notes will dramatically slow down
the program. The greater the number of comments the longer OO takes to perform
operations.

For example open the attached spreadsheet, that have a lot of comments inserted,
and try to apply a filter on any column. It takes a very long time to apply the
filter.

Another example on the same file, but even more heavy: select the entire sheet
content then cut and paste in place. OO Calc will freeze and you have to
terminate it (maybe it will paste the content sooner or later but i tried to
wait for minutes)

Select the entire sheet then remove/delete all notes and try any of the previous
operations: filter is applied in a second and cut and paste takes only a few
seconds.

This is quite a serious problem for those (like us) that use big spreadsheets in
a business environment, where filters are used as an habitual tool for daily
work.
Hope this will be fixed in the next 3.2.1

I've been experiencing this problem since version 3.1.0. I read this issue and
issue 103023 but this problem is not still fixed on current version (3.1.1). So
i ask for reopening this issue.

I've installed OOo 3.1.1 on brand new PCs, first time install, and this problem
still occurs here and on every computer of my network. Several people here are
using large spreadsheets and sorting a bunch of rows takes a long time, several
seconds in the better case.
I have a number of computers here so i can test the problem in different
conditions: fresh installations, reinstalls, upgrades, etc. All installations of
OO 3.1.0 and 3.1.1 show the problem, version 3.0.1 instead doesn't.

Something has changed in relation to the sorting feature with the 3.1.x branch
and the problem is not trivial for productivity, especially in a enterprise
environment.

Please, it's apposite to make some checks about this and reopen this issue.

Printing a spreadsheet form Calc 3.1.1 is extremely slow. When i say extremely
slow i mean that it takes about 1 minute or more only to initialize the printer.
This problem didn't exist with OOo 3.0.1 (maybe with 3.1.0 but since this
version had TONS of bugs we have not used it a lot).

We made tests with local printers (different Canon Pixma connected via USB on
different PCs) and with network printers (Utax and NRG multifunction machines).
In effect the problem seems not to be the printer driver itself but the
processing of the file operated by OOo, because the long period is always that
starting from the print command and the upcoming of the printer window, that is
the time OOo requires to prepare the print.

We have this problem with big spreadsheets, for example with a one with over 300
pages and about 67000 cells. This document has always been printed quickly with
ver 3.0.1 and previous, anyway.
Finally, the spreadsheet is a network file (stays on a server), non a local
file. In my opinion this has a role in the problem.
Regards

Hello
I just searched and found this issue because i recently verified this bug on my
own. Anyway, i wanted to report that the problem also afflicts export to any
graphic format, not only PDF export. If you export for example to TIF, JPEG o
something else you will have the same problem. I didn't realize if this has been
considered here.

Here i am. Sorry for the late reply but i have been busy and far from my usual
activity.
Thanks to everyone for the interest come out for this issue. I hope it can be
fixed.

@kohei
Yes, the linked file (let's call it B) actually exists.
If I open file A (the one that has links to file B) it starts to hang before
i can reach to the window asking This file contains links to other files.
Should they be updated?
If i rename file B to intentionally make it not accessible then file A opens
correctly and i reach to the windows asking for links update. Whichever of two i
choose file A opens correctly (showing #RIF error where links are present
and not updated.

Regarding tracing OOo activity during opening file i'm sorry but i shouldn't
know how to do.

Trying with different drive letter and drive mount

Introduction:
In the working environment both files (A and B) are on
M:\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\folder5
M: is a drive that mounts \\pdc\[ref_folder]

I tried this:

1) I mounted \\pdc\[ref_folder] on Z:
In this situation every file is left where it is and nothing is really moved,
only the drive letter changes.
Result: file A does not open, hangs as always and do not come to the This file
contains links... window

2) I mounted another network drive (Z:) on another folder (\\pdc\folder_x) and
copied here only file A.
Result: file A does not open (hangs)
Note: i didn't copy file B because links in file A point to M:\...\ so it is
useless to copy file B on a new folder unless changing links in A to make them
point to a new URL.

3) I copied both A and B on the new mounted drive (Z:) and modified manually all
links in file A making them pointing to Z:\ instead of M:\
To make this I opened the .ods file with 7zip and substituted every recurrence
of M:/folder1/folder2/... into Z:/ in content.xml.
I used Notepad++ for this to be sure that any formatting attribute wouldn't be
applied to the code and to preserve the UTF8 encoding.
Result: file A does not open (hangs)

I was confident that last try would have been successfully, but that didn't go
as expected.
Pratically, file A opens only if links destination files are disabled (renamed
or deleted).

frustrating for me not to be able to decode it enough to put devs in conditions
to debug it.

Hello
Thanks for replying, kpalagin
I made a try installing OOo 3.1.0 in a fresh Windows installation, but the
result is the same, that is, problem occurs as always.

Unfortunately this issue is not easy for me to detail although I spent a lot of
time trying to decode every detail. I guess there has to be something related to
the network and/or shared folders that is particularly relevant for this
problem. In fact, as I previously said, if I try to open the files locally
everything works.

For sure OOo 3.1.0 has a different approach to external linked spreadsheets than
previous versions, but unfortunately I've not found useful elements to give an
exact point to investigate on.

I'll try to make some more attempts to figure out some other details and I'll
report them as soon as they come.

So, let me understand some things.
Did you read entirely and with a bit of care what i've written?
Did you try to reproduce the problem in an environment similar to mine?
Excuse me, but as far as I see you didn't do any of both things.

I have the problem with Windows XP and you opened documents in Ubuntu. It's the
same thing I've said.
Did you do it locally or from a network? Locally there's no problem, as i said.

I use OO in an enterprise environment and the problem I pointed out *IS* a
problem in such a contest. Maybe there can be something wrong in my network, but
I need your help to figure out something more.

In previous versions when you open a document (any type) and OOo needs your
attention to choose some options you have the interactive windows brought close
up, on top. In ver 3.1 this does not occur anymore and it's confusing for an
inexpert user that remains waiting for the document to open.

This occurs for example when you open a document in read-only mode (e.g. if in
use by another user) or if you open a .csv, that needs you to set the import
options.

Also, in previous versions, the button for the application at the bottom of
Windows desktop starts blinking when a opening windows needs attention. This
catches the attention of the user. This behavior is disappeared in OOo 3.1.

--- Additional comments from cia...@openoffice.org Wed May 13 11:34:05
+ 2009 ---
Hello Regina
I can't be sure that the problem I reported can be reproduced in all systems.
Nevertheless I'm sure this is a bug in OOo 3.1. I have a LAN with several
computers, so I took the time to test opening the file in attachment from 5
different PCs. Result is always the same, I can't open the file in any case.

I can't give clear debugging elements about the problem, but consider that I
tested in a network environment (Windows domain) so it can be possible that in
this situation there are some elements activating the problem that can be
missing in other situations, like a standalone PC or a PC not connected to a
domain, for example.

Regarding the forth sheet, i think it's possible that the problem could be
related to this. The forth sheet is named
'file:///M:/listini/Lis_porte/Listino_2009/Calcolo_prezzi/A1_Materie_prime.ods'#Mat_prime

Some considerations:

1) The sheet contains some special characters that maybe OOo 3.1 cannot handle
(not as OOo 3.0.1 could)

2) The sheet was originally a hidden sheet, self generated by OOo 3.0.x in
reason of some external links created on other sheets

3) When I try to open the file with OOo 3.1 there is a first loading document
stage that is completed successfully, then the calculating stage that is the
one not completed. The progress bar stops loading at a certain point and the
program starts to hang.

4) I have the same problem with other files similar to the one I attached. The
A1_Materie_prime.ods named in title of sheet 4 is an existing file to which
the original links pointed to. (Now) I tried to open this also file with OOo 3.1
and neither this one can be opened (but I can with vers 3.0.1)

5) I attach another file having the same problem (see
does_not_open_with_OOo_3.1_2nd_example.ods)

Some consideration about this file:

a) the sheets with long name and special characters were hidden sheets, as I
said above for the 1st file

b) there are some links that point to 'file://dbimpr/...'
dbimpr is the name of a server that has been dismissed and does not exits
anymore
Nevertheless, OOo 3.0.1 can still open the file, but 3.1 can't.

c) Important: the file(s) I attached cannot be opened from their original
newtwork address but I can open them with OOo 3.1 if I copy them locally to my
PC. The original URL is a folder, mapped locally as M:

Hoping it can be useful I attach also the logs that Windows creates when I
terminate OOo process while it's hanging (the logs that Windows sends to Ms when
apps crash)

As in title. I have a spreadsheet created with previous version of OOo Calc.
Until ver 3.0.1 we could use it regularly, but with the new 3.1 it's impossible
to open it. OOo hangs for several minutes when trying and if you wait for a long
time you only have it exits without any message.

The original spreadsheet was very bigger than the one I attach here, with over
50 sheets very different one each other, filled with images, links, objects,
etc. I spent a lot of time cutting and reducing the file to find the minimum
amount of sheets that still cause the problem, and here it is the smallest file
I could produce.

Please, give it a look.
Regards
Cianoz

I couldn't isolate exactly the situation but it seems that when you try to print
a Writer document with notes shown/visible printing has no success and OOo
crashes.

In some other circumstances the doc is printed, but cutted on the right side,
like the page formatting goes wrong because OOo couldn't handle correctly the
space for the note(s).
This occurs with OOo 3.0.0 and 3.0.1, with different PCs and 2 printers (a
Nashuatec MPC2500 and a HP LaserJet P2015 - both are network printers)

If you close (hide) the notes and then print, then printing works.

Insert a string in a cell of a Calc document
Insert a second line in the same cell by pressing CTRL+Enter, then digit
something for the 2nd raw.
Confirm everything and exit from the cell, pressing Enter or clicking in other
cell.

Modify the cell content applying some formatting *to-the-entire-1st-raw*, for
example applying bold, italics and/or some color or other.

Now when you press Enter to exit and confirm the changes you'll get the *entire
cell content* formatted as above.
If you press CTRL+Z (undo) you will have the cell correctly formatted, with only
the first line formatted. But this obviously, this is not a normal expectation.

I far as I can remember this didn't occur with previous versions (I haven't any
2.4.x version at disposal the moment)

In a Windows-NTFS environment if you have writing/modifying permissions only for
the file and not for the folder you can only open the file in read-only mode.
If you extend such a user's rights to the directory where the file is he can
open the file correctly, with modifying rights.

In a business, multiuser and LAN environment it can be needed to assign the
writing/modifying permission only for a file and not for the entire folder.
The behavior of OOo is new, has come with OOo 3.0.0.

It represents a problem because it limits the fine-tuning of the Active
Directory / NTFS permissions settings.

I'm referring to the Italian version of OOo.
Insert/use the ISOWEEKNUM function in a cell (in any context) and save the
document in the 1.2 ODF format version.

For the Italian version of OOo the name of the function becomes NUM.SETTIMANA.
I assume that ISOWEEKNUM is what OOo shows for the ENG version, I'm not sure
of this because I'm not using a ENG version at the moment.

If you reopen the file with OOo 2.4.1 the function will be shown as the original
english ISOWEEKNUM (at least ) and the cell will display #NOME (#NAME, in
EN).

I don't know if this has to be considered a OOo issue or strictly a ODF issue.
In effect if you specify 1.1 as ODF version for saving the file it will preserve
the correct translation for the function.

I'm aware that what i've exposed seems to be a problem of PDF Creatore.
But, as you can read in my post, I made some tries to understand where the
problem stands and noticed that it occurs exclusively when you're using OOo
2.4.0 with any of the 2 latest versions of PDF Creator (0.9.3 and 0.9.5).

If you use them with any previous ver of OOo the problem does not occur. So I
have to guess that something in 2.4.0 ver is changed in respect to the past. I
made my tries with more than one PC, with Win XP and 2000 and all mix of
versions for both sw. And the result is always the same, with the bad links
generated when you use OOo 2.4.0.
I add that I'm using both OOo and PDF Creator (all versions) long since.

I think you should do some tries as i did.

If you create a document (Calc, Writer, no matter) with internal hyperlinks and
create a PDF using PDF Creator they are not preserved. The result is normal
text, with exception for the color, that is the same as the expected
hyperlink(s). External hyperlinks are correctly preserved.

Just to be clear: for internal hyperlinks I mean links that point within the
document, created by auto-index, manual bookmarks insertion or other ways (sorry
if these names are not those you see in the GUI, I'm freely translating from my
Italian version).

This behavior occurs with OOo 2.4.0 and using PDFCreator version 0.9.5 (the
latest) or 0.9.3 (the previous) and it didn't occur with previous versions of
OOo.
Internal hyperlinks are correctly preserved if you create a PDF using the
built-in PDF capabilities of OOo, with create PDF directly (with the button)
or with the File Export PDF feature.

I made various checks and didn't find any other cause than something wrong in
the 2.4.0 version of OOo.

The modified macro with the workaround activated works, in effect.
Thanks a lot for your help and for having handled this issue promptly.
It's real good to see this kind of reactivity in the support/development

It's really hard to accept such a resistance from developers to understand that
this is a BUG that really needs to be solved. Latest posts here summarize a
clear annoyance by many people and it's really incredible that a BUG (IT'S A
BUG!) like this has been snubbed by developers for more than 2 years!
Undecidable's post summarizes perfectly the situation, in a very clear way.

I am a user and a supporter of OOo since beginning of the project mainly in
office/enterprise environment. These kind of things are those that make all care
and effort to make OOo well accepted at work very hard.

Do you know what it means to have people at work (not-at-home), mabye your boss,
telling you: Why the hell you have made me to compile my 1000 rows spreadsheet
with this OpenOffice.org? Now i have all my notes lost around the sheet! Repair
it, right now!

Are you saying that you do not see the form's macros in the
 Macro organizer (Tools/Macros/Organize/Basic) anymore?
Or are you saying they just do not work anymore?

The first, I mean I can't see the macros in the Macro Organizer (if form is NOT
open starting from the .odb file)

As a workaround, try adding
  oParms(2).Name = MacroExecutionMode
  oParms(2).Value = com.sun.star.document.MacroExecMode.ALWAYS_EXECUTE_NO_WARN
here (of course you need to Dim Parms(2) ... then).

Sorry, but i'm not experienced in macro language, so I'm in trouble even for
adding something simple like this. I can add the 2 lines for ...Name... and
...Value... but I don't know how to add the Dim oParms(2)...

Since I already have a similar line for variable oParms(1) I tried to
duplicate it and just change (1) to (2) but running the macro i get a msg
telling that variable oParms is already defined. Sorry.

I created a form in a Base document (.odb). I also created a couple of Basic
macros in this form and assigned them to some buttons.

I created a button in other documents (Calc and Writer docs) with a macro
assigned that opens directly the form contained in the Base file.

With OOo version 2.3.1 and previous I get all my macros available and running
from within the Form when i open it form the external files. Now with ver 2.4.0
I can still open the Form but all macros are lost, I can't see them at all as
the Form doesn't contain them anymore.

If I open the orginal Base (.odb) file that contains the Form and run it from
within the Base file then all macros are still available and usable.

I made some check to Security settings and tried both from network paths and
local paths, with any result.

This is the macro is created for the external form loading (the one I use with a
button from external documents):

'

Dim DataSource as Object
Dim Doc as Object
Dim Form as Object
Dim oFormDoc as Object
Dim Forms
Dim oParms(1) As New com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue
Dim I as Integer
Dim names
Dim dbExists as Boolean
Dim subjectDb
Dim oCon as Object

subjectDb=schede_fornitori

 If SwitchBoardOpen=True Then
   Exit Sub
   Else

   End If

' First look up the registered databases
DatabaseContext = createUnoService(com.sun.star.sdb.DatabaseContext)
Names=DatabaseContext.getElementNames()
dbExists=FALSE
' Now check to make sure the one we want is there.
For I = 0 To UBound(Names())
If names(I)=subjectDb Then

EndIf
Next
If dbExists=True then
' msgbox(Database subjectDb Found)
Else
msgbox(Error: Unable to locate subjectDb Database)
Exit Sub
Endif
'XRay.XRay DatabaseContext
' Now go to that database and open the form we expect to be there
ON Error GOTO OpenPhoneBookError
DataSource=DatabaseContext.getByName(subjectDb)
Doc=DataSource.DatabaseDocument
Forms=Doc.GetFormDocuments
Form=Forms.getByName(scheda_fornitore)
oCon = DataSource.getConnection(, )
oParms(0).Name = ActiveConnection
oParms(0).Value = oCon
oParms(1).Name = OpenMode
oParms(1).Value = open
oFormDoc = Forms.loadComponentFromURL(scheda_fornitore, , 0, oParms())

Exit Sub
OpenPhoneBookError:
msgbox(Error Occurred Err Error$ Erl )

On Error Goto 0
End Sub

'

I made no changes to the macro and to any files, all is the same before and
after I installed the 2.4.0 version. Simply, something in OOo has changed with
regard or this.

Could anyone confirm if this has a solution or workaround?
Thank you

I created a table in an Oracle DB (not with Base) with some fields defined with
an external key (foreign key). Once created this table is not accessible with
base.
Trying to open it I get an error message:

Cannot load contents
[MERANT] [ODBC Oracle Driver] Data type for parameter 1 has changed since first
SQLExecute call

After a long wait you can open the table, but only in read-only mode.

Other tables which haven't any foreign key are accessible normally and are
usable.

Note: The Merant ODBC Drives in use (v3.70) is absolutely working and has no
bugs as far as I know; it is the driver used for our ERP software.

Both drivers seem to works, only, the JDBC driver is much slower than the ODBC.

The DBMS supports views, absolutely!

I didn't check if the JDBC connector support views, in effect... I have to give
a look. Anyway, the Merant ODBC driver has full support for views.

All the views contains the primary key, this is OK.

Hello
I created a connection to an Oracle db with OOo 2.3.0 because I need a form for
data insert and update. I see that everything works fine if I try to insert
records straight to the tables, but I can't do anything if I try to work with
views.
This appears as a limit of Base. Can you confirm it? Does it exist any
workaround to use views for data insert instead of tables?

This bug still occurs in OOo v.2.0.4
Will it ever be considered or it will be remain a P99 priority ?
It is an *important* feature for who use OOo in enterprise environment.
What we have to do to make this be comprehended by (you) develepers ?

In the italian build of ver 2.0.3 headings are not (no more) correctly
recognized; if you activate the Navigator (F5) you cannot see any of the
headings applied in the document nor you can use them to create an internal
hyperlink.
This does not occur in the english version of OOo 2.0.3.

I was used to hear these magic words from Micro$oft... this is not a bug, it's
a feature; it looks like here we're going to something similar now, just a
little different.

Maybe tomorrow another version of OOo will write only lowercase and someone will
tell us writing also uppercase is not a defect, it's an enhancement..., we're
considering for future versions

Meanwhile some M$ Office users are laughing about this...

With OOo 2.0.3 the behaviour of input fields is changed compared to v.2.0.2.

When you have some input fields on a document you can press Ctrl+Shift+F9 to
start compiling them in sequence, then you can press OK or Ctrl+Enter to advance
a step (to jump to the next field); in previus versions after every step you
were able to start writing your text immediately and the field was compiled
correctly.

Now in 2.0.3 after every step the prompt is focused in the center of the box and
if you start writing your text is not saved in the input field after you press
OK and close the window.
To correctly insert a text you have to click with mouse at the beginning of the
text area or press Tab until the prompt gets the focus at that point.
This is very annoying if you have several fields to compile.

I searched a lot over the OOo website, in OOo documentation and with Google, but
i didn't find any clear explanation about which exactly are the config files i
have to modify and what i have to modify inside them.

I suppose the config file is
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Applications
Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Common.xcu
but why don't you put a *FAQ* to explain it ? I think a lot of people has the
same problem now.

And, please, we want back all other paths entries that OOo 2.0.2 has in the
options window (in the GUI). It was so confortable for the user to able to set
all the paths without getting crazy with config files !
OOo 1.x had too many entries in that windows, but ver 2.0.2 had the right
number, IMHO.
Please.

Removing the possibility to set the paths for templates in Tools Options is
one ot the worst change ever done in OOo.
In a corporate environment this setting is a key feature, moreover choosing
network folders as template source allow OOo to automatically recognize new
templates when someone put them in these directories.

I manage a LAN with over 30 users and network folders used for template are
(were) a core feature.
Now if i upgrade OOo 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 all my users lose this possibility and all
their currently settings. What shoul i tell to them ? What do i answer to them
when saying that in Micro$oft Office this doesn't occur ?
And how should i set now shared templates for every users like i were used to
do ?

In OOo 2.0.3 we cannot set templates paths (and other useful paths) anymore in
Tools Options Paths like in all previous versions.

Also, there is no other visible place where we can guess this feature has been
moved to. This is a problem for anyone, but mainly it is a big problem for
corporate users, where often a network folder is provided to the users as shared
templates repository.
I manage a LAN with about 30 users: if i upgrade OOo from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3
everyone lose their network template folder settings.

I searched for an issue for this problem but i didn't find anything, i apologize
if this has been already signaled.

In previous versions of OOo (the 1.x versions) Draw had the Full Screen feature
as Calc and Writer (Ctrl+Shift+J); starting from the 2.x versions this is not
avaible for Draw anymore.
This is a very useful feature, is it possible to make it avaible in Draw again ?

Thank you

I agree with Vagula, this is definitively a DEFECT, or if you prefer, a bug.
It's not possible to work with Calc if you are used to make large use of cell
notes in the way that Calc currently handles them.
Please do something !

In Windows XP SP2 if use (open) a form you created, lock Windows (CTRL+ALT+DEL -
lock) and then unlock it, you get the form shown with an extreme magnification,
as it is zoomed hundreds of times, so anything on the document become unusable.

The zoom level for the page anyway appears to be set to a normal percentage; if
you modify the zoom level you will get that some elements change and other not,
but you cannot turn back the document to the original appereance; if you close
and reopen the file it displayed correctly.

I verified this problems on several systems with Windows XP; it does not occur
with Windows 2000.

I made some other checks, disconnecting the form from the datasource and/or
opening it on some other computers. Problem always occurs, but not always the
same way, sometimes the form is not magnified but is displayed very badly, with
elements overritten or with lines repeated, etc.
Always only in Windows XP.

I do not agree that this is not a bug, but just a enhancement, if you work with
a large amount of data/rows the use of notes become pratically unusable. It's
very different from a simple annoying issue, it's a real problem.

As many other features or issues, this one is not very relevant if you use OOo
at home or for non critical jobs, but if you intend to promote OOo as a real
alternative for Office use this has to be considered important.
I spent a lot of time in my organization in creating spreadsheets that work with
large amount of data and are frequently sorted, or have rows inserted or
deleted.
We are used to WORK with OOo, not to use it for the books and movie collections!

I want to guess that this would be fixex very soon.

The LOOKUP and VLOOKUP functions absolutely do not work correctly in OOo 2.0.x
and it's not just a matter related to sorted blocks of data or not. There are
many dirty things that OOo 2.0 do with these functions, differently from the 1.1
version.

Please check the SIMPLE example i attach
(example2_LOOKUP_function_in_OOo_1.0-2.0.sxc) to compare how the old and new ver
of OOo work on this. It's clearly visible that something is changed!

OOo 2.0 is causing many problems in my organization with the bad LOOKUP an
VLOOKUP functions handling. Please, it's necessary that you put some more
attention to this issue !

OK, OK, OK.
Now, please, could you explain to me why in OpenOffice.org 1.1.x the search
vector for the LOOKUP function does not need to be sorted and now in OOo 2.0 it
does ?

You can clearly see how different is the result in the example i submitted (look
at the image i put in the spreadsheet, that shows CLEARLY how OOo 1.1 gives
correct result with the SAME formulas) !

It looks like you want do not want to confirm that the 2.0 ver of OOo works
differently with the LOOKUP functions and causes BIG problems with it !

I have tens of important sheets in my company and now they are completely
unusable with the 2.0 version ? What shoud i do with them ? Do you suggest to
switch to Microsoft Office ?

I am a user and a big promoter of OpenOffice.org since versions before the
1.0.0, i cannot realize that you don't want to consider a bug like this !

I ask to change the priority of this issue from P3 to P2; it is an important
defect and following to the rules we have to follow for assigning priority to
issues this one has all the requisites to pass to P2.

OK, theorically you're right, but in my opinion there is something wrong in OOo
2.0. Look at the new spreadsheet that i upload.

In my organization i spent 2 years for having success in replacing Micro$oft
Office with OpenOffice.org and it has been very hard to make people accepting
it. Now i have about 30 users of OOo and i created several much complex and
important spreadsheets that hardly use the LOOKUP and VLOOKUP funtions and in
OOo 1.1.4 they ALL WORK CORRECTLY.
I recently i tried to swith to the new OOo 2.0 but i had tons of problems with
these functions, opening/converting these files with OOo 2.0 made these files
widely unusable, so i had to swich back to 1.1 ver.
These problems are not my opinion, it's a reality.

So please, get a look at the following spreadsheet because it looks like OOo 1.1
and the 2.0 version works differently with LOOKUP and VLOOKUP.
Thank you

In some circumstances the LOOKUP function does not work as expected: it returns
a Error: value not avaible; it works correctly in many situations but not
in others, and i have not been able to understand the exact factors that causes
the problem.

I attach a spreadsheet that shows the examples i'm referring to.

In OOo 1.1.4 all the examples work correctly without errors; you can verify it
just saving my attachment in the OpenOffice.org 1.1 format and opening it with
this version of OOo.

I searched in qa project for an issue like this, i found others issue related to
LOOKUP but i think they're not the same as this.

On some computers OOo 2.0 is very slow to show fontworks.
I refer my experience to several computers, for example problem is very heavy on
systems like this:
Compaq Evo Pentium 4 at 1.5 Ghz, RAM 384 MB, graphic adapter Nvidia Vanta with
16 MB.

Once you have opened a document (e.g. text document) with a fontwok inserted
page scrolling is almost impossible, you see the fontwork very slowly re-drawed
on any scroll of the page and the document become almost totally unusable.

I solved converting the fontwork to a standard image (png or jpg) but it's only
a workaround, not a solution. Maybe fontworks use a lot of video memory, so a 16
MB graphic adapter has difficulty to show them.
Do really fontworks uses so lot of memory that a system like this cannot work
property with them ?
Is there any other workaround to solve this problems on older pcs, for example
some special settings in the general options related to graphics/memory ?

I need to specify some trusted sources to allow/deny macro execution.
I am confused about 2 things on how to handle this:

1) Above the Trusted file locations box i read Trusted file locations are
used only if level is set to very high, but in the Security level tab the
explanation for the Medium, high and very high level quotes clearly the
realationship with the trusted sources.
So, which levels care about the trusted sources ?
Is it correct what is written in the Security Level tab or in the Trusted
Sources tab ?

2) About the trusted sources to specify it appears that OOo requires to set
every single folder and not consider the subfolders. This is very annoying
behaviour that was not present in the previous versions.
If i want to allow macro execution from all the subfolders of my template root i
am forced to specify all folders distinctly

Or maybe i have missed something, but i can't guess what.

I made some experiments with new db and forms, much more simple than the one i
experienced problem with, and i had no problem this time.
I think there should be something in more complex databases that causes the
crash using wizard for fhe forms, presumably something related to field used as
relation key.
I shoud make some more test, i hope to find time for it
Thanks for your interesting

I have several Calc files, created in OOo 1.1.4, that have been heavily edited (
many times, inserting and deleting contents, inserting several notes, deleting,
formatting, etc.).
Now if i open these files with OOo 2.0 (or with v1.1.4) and open the Navigator i
can see several notes that actually don't exist (anymore) in the document. If i
double-click on the note in the Navigator, OOo point to a cell that theorically
contains the note, but it doesn't: the cells look really empty.

The same result persists even if i:
- delete the content of the cells
- delete everything in the cells (text, content, notes, etc)
- delete all rows and all columns
- save and reopen the file (even after the operations above) in the new OOo 2.0
.ods format

No matter if i try to fix the file with OOo 1.1.4 or 2.0, the results are the
same: the notes cannot be deleted

This configures a privacy problem, because i cannot remove personal info i can
see in the notes (using the Navigator) and send the file to some people i do not
want to see the notes.

I attach one of these files on wich i tried all i can for removing the hidden
notes

I refer to a MySQL query but i guess the problem is the same with other dbs.

If you use a condition like the following in the WHERE clause of a SQL query OOo
doesn't understand it correctly if you use the Design View
The condition is:
WHERE TO_DAYS(NOW())- TO_DAYS(movim.date) = 365

If you use the Design View OOo create a column for it where the title is
TO_DAYS(NOW())- TO_DAYS(movim.date) and the Criterion is = #30/12/1900#

If you start creating the query in Design View it looks like initially you can
do a regular query, but after saving the query and the document after you try to
edit the query again you find it has been modified as above by the OOo SQL
preprocessor

An SQL query with this condition is correctly handled only if run in Direct
mode

I created a MySQL database (MyISAM tables), then created the datasource in OOo2
and finally created a form with a subform. If i use the search tool to find a
record (on a table on the main form) OOo immediately crashes (every time). It
does not occur if i create/use a simple form without a subform.

the wizard. I refer to a MySQL connection (for example the one for which i
uploaded the SQL statement for the issue # 56865)

Sorry, but i have to insist

I refered my steps to the italian version of OOo2.0 (a Calc file), so i thought
i could have got some different behaviour that eng version; so i installed the
english version and repeated the steps; i confirm the same exact result: the
macro i saved with the FILE is hidden after you activate and close the page
preview, because the entire library is hidden.

After closing the page preview if you go to Tools Macros Run Macro you can
see that in the left panel (the Library panel) only My Macros and
OpenOffice.org Macros are listed, while the library named as the file is not
listed anymore.
You can find it only if you access through Tools Macros Organize Macros
OpenOffice.org Basic.
If effect what is hidden is the entire library, not the macro(s) itself

If you save and close the document and re-open it everything is restored, and if
you don't activate the page preview you can see the library of the file (e.g.
myspreadsheet1.ods-Library1-Module1-Macro1) in Tools Macros Run Macro.
Go in Page Preview and close it and you will see the library is missing from
this window.
I tried on different systems (win 2000, XP, 2003 Server, with different
hardware) and i got always these results.

Create a new document or open one, for example a spreadsheet

1. Create a new macro (ANY macro), e.g. one that perform a simple ordering
2. Save it with the FILE (NOT as Personal macros or OOo macros)
3. Close and save the document
4. Reopen the file and activate the page preview, then close it
5. Try again to execute the macro created accessing it through Tools Macro
Execute Macro: you'll not find the file library anymore, just the Personal and
OOo libraries, so your macro is disappeared

You can still find the library and your macro if you go to Tools Macro
Organize Macros, and you can execute it, but not through the Execute Macro
window, anymore

Someone else in free.it.comp.software.openoffice (Message-ID:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]) found this bug but with OOo
giving an error executing the macro, without the macro disappears.

Once you have merged some cells on Calc it's not possible to insert other cells,
rows or columns in the merged area. Also it is not possible to paste something
in the merged area.

I mainly use Italian build, but it's not important, i just had in mind that most
of sw both in eng and ita have the CTRL+F combination for the search tool.
Anyway, your motivation is reasonable and sharable.
Bye

I noticed that when i activate Edit Changes Record i cannot use the Merge
Cells function anymore, until i turn off recording changes.
I think this is an inconvenient to solve, very limiting (sorry for my english).

Hallo, i would suggest to change the default assignement for the Search (and
substitute) function o OOo from the CRTL+B combination to CTRL+F key, because
the most of programs on Windows use this one, and so it is normally more
immediate to use and remember.

This feature seems to be absent in OOo meanwhile it is present (as they tell me)
in M$ Office:

if you select and copy a cell range in a spreadsheet you can only paste it in a
text document as a new incorporated spreadsheet, but you cannot paste content in
a existent table in the text doc (i mean normal table created in the text doc,
not a spreadsheet table)

User expectative is this:
- i create a normal table in my text doc
- i copy cells content from a spredsheet
- i paste cell content into my normal table and the content should fill the
cells

Perhaps this is not a key feature, but... it's hard to make M$ users to swith
to OOo.
