[sw-issues] [Issue 114447] Numbered lists on "a b c" format do not use Spanish alphabet
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=114447 User rgb changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|UNCONFIRMED Resolution|INVALID | --- Additional comments from r...@openoffice.org Tue Nov 9 20:21:28 + 2010 --- The "Real academia española", the maximun authority on Spanish language, have a service to ask linguistic questions here: http://www.rae.es/RAE/Noticias.nsf/Home?ReadForm (under "consultas lingüisticas"). I finally ask to them the question is it is proper to use the ñ or not on lists. In a nutshell (their complete answer, with English translation, at the end of this message) is: The use of the ñ is perfectly valid. ch and ll should be avoided because they are digraphs. If the document must be sent outside Spanish area the international alphabet is then appropriate, but the user have the right to select to use the ñ or not. In this case, having a new entry on the lists types will be useful So I'm reopening this issue. English translation In the creation of schemes or arrangements of epigraphs with letters one does without the ch and the ll precisely for being digraphs or sets of two letters. In principle, there is no problem in using ñ, because it is a letter of the Spanish alphabet. It is possible to choose any criterion you prefers providing that this one is kept coherent in all the work. Now then, if a publication is going to have diffusion outside of the Spanish area it would be preferable to use only the letters of the international alphabet, which does not include the ñ. BTW: on a side note, on the last years I had the opportunity to visit several theatres on the north of Italy (some of them really big, like the auditorium of Milan conservatory). On all those theatres the rows are "numbered" with letters... of the Italian alphabet: no trace of j, k, w, x or y. So I think the problem is not only with Spanish. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Actual result: While the cursor behaviour is OK on the fi ligature (and this is an improvement respect OOo 3.2.x), when you arrive to the "prime" the cursor will jump to the right, possible going to the position where the text \prime should be if "tex mode" were not enabled. This behaviour is confusing because the cursor jump to a text position, but if you press "back space" the text deleted is the one "hidden" by the Graphite replacement, not the one where cursor is shown. For instance, if you select “Align to the right” the following element will be aligned to the right of the page, not to the right of the tabstop itself. Usercase: I want to set up a TOC in which the chapter numbers are aligned this way (the underscore represent a space to show alignment): ... __9___Chapter _10___Chapter but now I can only obtain the following ... _9Chapter _10___Chapter by adding to TOC's tabstops the same alignment capabilities you find on paragraph's tabstops this would be easy to accomplish with an arrangement like this one: T E# T E T # with the first "T" aligned to the right of the tabstop itself, the second to the left and the last one to the right of the page. Only workaround I found is to NOT use the chapter numbers on the TOC, but to set "index 1" paragraph style to use a numbering style properly aligned that mimic chapter numbers. But this workaround is painful if you have several outline levels. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is a lot of useless work, because you always need to cross-reference more items _inside_ a sub-document than _between_ them: keeping track of hundreds of cross reference names is clearly more work than listing only a few dozens... There, it is possible to select "Tab stop" (the default), a space or "nothing" for "Numbering followed by". The passage from one system to the other gave birth to some new problems: 1- Documents created on a prior OOo version will not be "converted" to the new system. i.e.: a document created on OOo 2.x will not give you the chance to select a tab stop separator and the dialogue in Tools → Outline numbering → Position tab will be the same as in old OOo versions. 2- If in a new document you activate in Tools → Options → OpenOffice.org Writer → Compatibility the option: "use OpenOffice.org 1.1 tabstop formatting", no matter which alignment you choose for your heading paragraph, it will be left aligned if you have a tab stop as the number/text separator. This behaviour is shown in the attachment and disappear if you either change the separator from tab stop to any other option or if you disable the compatibility option. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 23957] Caption behaviour and layo ut
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=23957 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Apr 16 15:52:21 + 2007 --- For completeness, here it is the text of issue 76398: Steps to reproduce the issue: In a new Writer document, edit the "Graphics" frame style in order to add space below any inserted image. Insert dummy text and in between it insert an image. When the image is inserted, the spacing works as expected. Now, right click over the image and select "caption". Enter any text and press enter. Expected behavior: the space set in the Graphics frame style keep a distance between the image and the caption. Result: the space below the image is transferred to the new external frame and no space is left between the image and the caption. Below the external frame a space NOT set by the user is inserted while the configured space below the image is lost. Notice: By re-applying the Graphics frame style to the image only, the space is recuperated. Everything behave as if direct formating were applied to both, Graphics and "external" frame style reverting the spacing settings introduced by the user. In fact, the frame where the image and the caption is inserted is a variation of he "Frame" frame style, but with "direct formatting" applied on it: There is no way to control the default properties of that frame. Up to the moment, the only way to have a well defined "caption environment" is to define it by hand, making the whole built-in captioning system useless. Suggestion: when a caption is inserted, a new frame style must be created (maybe based on the Graphics frame style, or maybe the same Graphics frame style) and applied to the external frame without changing the properties of the original frame. The change is not a great one and will give to the user more control over the process. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. That is, a reduced version. In latex, you can assign a brief "alias" to a very long title (something like \Chapter[brief title]{The very long complete title}), so if you use a fancy header, the alias and not the actual title is displayed in the header. In OOo, the title field display the whole paragraph, correctly aligned with line breaks when needed, but there is no way to set an "alias", which is an important limitation to the design of complex documents. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. As suggested by someone in http://www.oooforum.org/forum/index.phtml it could be a problem with not true unicode fonts, but I'm not sure about that. The point is: to add a symbol from, for example, the "Euclide Math Two" font (from mathematica) only works within the math object where that symbol is defined: the nexts math objects can't remember that symbol. With other fonts (like Times New Roman) the process works well... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
