Similar problem here.

With OOo 3.3.0, at a screen resolution of 2048 by 1152, the full screen
presentation of e.g.
http://www.scipio.org/Courses/Lectures_files/osSockets1-1.ppt just shows a white
screen with an hourglass in the corner. It doesn't crash though. With another
presentation the image was garbled and OOo became very slow when trying to exit
the presentation.

If I set the screen resolution to 1920 by 1080 before starting full screen
presentation it works correctly.

Display is Dell SP2309W on NVIDIA Quadro FX540 and running Windows XP (32) SP3.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 116071] big round bullets not cor rectly saved

It is on the same computer. If the .ppt specifies the same font as used in the
.odp, then yes it is installed, otherwise OOo would not be able to show the
bullets correctly.

But suppose the .ppt specifies a different font to ensure compatibility on
systems that don't have OOo installed (and the fonts that come with it), then I
wonder if maybe that font is installed with MS Office but not with just MS
Powerpoint Viewer? Then with MS Office installed on your system the bullets
would show correctly. Just guessing...

The big round bullets in e.g. slide 2, when the presentation is saved as .ppt,
and shown in MS Powerpoint viewer 2010, are represented by a kind of curly
graphics symbol.

Other bullets used in the presentation are shown correctly.

@sba, I'll take care of the encoding issue in the .txt file.

I wonder though if I have to file another issue because I'm still stuck with the
obsolete dictionary. In my extension manager it is shown with a lock next to it
(which suggests it actually came as a bundled dictionary with a previously
installed version of OOo) and I cannot remove it. Also, I tried to force the
update to the newer bundled extension but if I select it and click "check for
updates" it says there are no updates.

How can I update it with the newer bundled dictionary or at least remove it?

Maybe there is some confusion on my part. Is the bundled dictionary supposed to
be shown in the extension manager? I'm starting to suspect the one listed in
there is a dictionary I had installed as an extension quite some time ago, and
which then must have remained on my system even though I had deinstalled OOo
prior to installing the new version.

If this is the case, it would be a problem if the older extension dictionary
takes precedence over the newer bundled one. (I am not at home right now to
check if it does)

Hi

I have just encountered this problem in OOo 3.3 RC6 (Dutch) on Windows 7/64
(Dutch).

I paste a piece of text from a Writer document, the language of which is set to
Nederlands (NL), into a cell of a Calc document, the language of whose unedited
cells is shown as Nederlands (NL) as well.

The pasted text is marked as incorrectly spelled and the language setting of it
is blank.

Sorry, but I don't see the necessity for integrating any fix.

The author himself has released these hyphenation patterns under the LGPL, which
should be sufficient for inclusion in, and distribution with, OOo. And the
current readme file correctly reflects that it is licensed this way.

The fact that the file has been distributed under another license does not
preclude its release *by its author* under the LGPL as well. And being licensed
under the LGPL its distribution is simply allowed under the conditions of the
LGPL, without *any* additional conditions.

So IMO Mechtilde's assumption is correct and this issue can be simply closed
without any further "fix".

Thanks Olaf, for your good suggestion. I'd like to reassign the issue to you,

with a WORKSFORME that is OK too.

So the uninstallation script has different dialog strings per language version.
Are you sure the URL that it uses cannot be similarly different???

If I type "fm" with Times New Roman, part of the m is clearly under the overhang
of the f, whether the pair kerning box in the "character" dialog is ticked or
not.
I would expect this to change when disabling pair kerning.

Uninstalling Dutch localized OOo I am redirected to the uninstallation survey in
English.
As the survey exists in Dutch
(http://surveys.services.openoffice.org/surveys/index.php?sid=13577&lang=nl) it
should be shown directly without the user having to select the language.

I think the issue type should be "defect", not "enhancement" because the
function does not do what users expect.

Can somebody confirm the issue? It is easy to verify.

Also I think it is high time somebody would get to work on this issue. When it
was filed, the word count was just a number in File - Properties - tab
Statistics. In current versions it is prominently featured as the menu option
Tools - Word Count. So its importance is recognized, now it should also work
correctly.

Thanks,

How to reproduce:

Start with two paragraphs of text in a document, give the first one a heading
style.
Place cursor in front of second paragraph, press backspace. The second paragraph
is now appended to the first and assumes its style. Press CTRL+Z, the document
is now as before. So far so good.

Now do this with "track changes" enabled.
In this case, undo restores the second paragraph to its location, but its
original style is not restored.

[lingucomponent-issues] [Issue 110341] Spellchecking dialog appl ies corrections in a wrong manner

Hi,
Here is an easy way to reproduce what I suspect is the same bug.
In an empty, English language document, write the text "Chanx
 "

Then open the spelling dialog, change "Chanx" into the suggestion "Change", then
choose ignore for all following words. You end up with the string "Change
    "

If however you start out with "Changex " then you end up
with "Changea "

Obviously the difference is whether the suggestion is longer or shorter than the
word it replaces.

If, without looking at the code, I may venture a guess what is happening: when a
word is replaced by a longer or shorter one the rest of the paragraph must be
moved to the right or the left accordingly, but the problem is that this is
incorrectly repeated on subsequent "ignores".

Hi Mechtilde,
I would just change

"Ook de" -> "Deze"

and

"Also the" -> "These"

because the web page is also about word lists, and the readme is only about the
hyphenation patterns.

Hi all,

We are distributing the hyphenation patterns file under the conditions of the
LGPL. Its original author, Piet Tutelaer, has given explicit permission to do
so.

So the distribution does not have to comply to the LPPL.

Sorry about being late about this, I had checked on our (OpenTaal.org)

like the hyphen at the start or end of a word included.

A list of 338 words starting with "IJ" from the OpenTaal word list can be
downloaded from here:
http://simonbr.xs4all.nl/wiki/index.php/IJ-woorden

Note that there may exist other Dutch words that start with IJ, for example
compounds formed from one of these. So adding these words to the exception list
will not completely fix the problem.

Please update the Dutch spelling/hyphenation extension that is included in OOo
by the one found on:
http://simonbr.xs4all.nl/wiki/index.php/Nederlandstalige_spellingcontrole-extensie_voor_OOo_3_met_nl_BE

It is identical to the current one, except that the dictionaries.xcu specifies
both nl_NL and nl_BE for the dictionary and the hyphenation instead of only
nl_NL, and the updated version string in description.xml

This way (Belgian) users who set their document language to Dutch (Belgium) will
also have their text checked and hyphenated.

One of our users pointed out that, via the menu tools - language - more
dictionaries online... , the dictionary for Spanish of Spain
(Diccionario de corrección ortográfica en español (España)) is not shown. Also
if you click on the spelling tag on the website this dictionary is not shown.
Many users will then conclude that it is not on the website or even that it
doesn't exist in the first place.
Please look into this. There may be other dictionaries with this issue as well.

BTW, I also sent a message about it to webs...@extensions.openoffice.org but
although I had subscribed to it successfully it appears to have vanished into
thin air.

Since this evening I am getting this same response
("ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host"). This means I
can't update the nl.openoffice.org webpages. It would be great if this were
fixed soon.

I can confirm that Shift+CTRL+space inserts a non-breakable space in OOo 3.0.
However, the Dutch help text of 3.0 still says it's CTRL+space. Was it updated
in the help text for any other languages?

In Writer, pressing CTRL + Space does not insert a non-breakable space. This is
a regression as it did work in 2.4.

I was not able to edit the text of the dimension line. After a while I
discovered that in point editing mode double clicking the text simply has no
effect. Unless the associated action is something else that makes sense in point
editing mode, it should work the same.

If I want to change the grid size in a drawing then I have to go to Tools -
Options - OpenOffice.org Draw - Grid. I think Tools - Options should be for
settings that users change seldom, if at all. I find that when working on a
(technical) illustration I regularly need to change the grid size.

Draw already has a menu View - Grid where you can change grid snap and
visibility, and also in the default context menu there is the submenu Grid with
the same options.
I think it would be a useful enhancement if the grid settings dialog would be
accessible via those menus as well.

Would it be possible to implement this as an extension, based on the same code
as used in Go-OO? It would make the functionality available in OOo (although you
have to install the extension afterwards) without the "legal" issues.

In the Dutch OpenOffice.org 3.0 .cab file, the extension for Dutch spell
checking and hyphenation dict_nl.oxt is present, as in this localization it is
installed per default.

However, users with other-language GUI's (quite a few Dutch users actually
prefer the US English version) may also want to use Dutch spell checking and
hyphenation. I already received requests from some of them.

Therefore, please provide this extension for download from the extensions
repository as well.

This issue is from a public organization that receives many of these forms which
have to be filled in and sent back. The problem is that the document is supposed
to be a one page but it is not opened as one page in OOo.

Please advise on a simple way to deal with this because reformatting all of
these documents represents a lot of work.

[tools-issues] [Issue 92535] No MSVCR71.dll

I tested M30; it looks like the problem is *not solved* yet.

As I did not have a fresh Windows XP installation anymore, I did a file search
for MSVCR71.DLL and renamed all of the found files. Then I installed OOo. After
this, when first starting OOo, I still got this error message.

In fact the file is there in the installation files but apparently the
installation program doesn't copy it to a suitable location.

After re-renaming the MSVCR71.DLL in /WINDOWS/system32, OOo could be started
normally. So it is able to find it if it is present in that directory.

Reassigning to Stefan.

I suggest setting priority to P2, as this is a serious usability problem for
many users.

I received a report from someone who has been running OOo 2.4.0 for some months
on his laptop, with Windows Vista, but suddenly he got the error message "Taal
van de interface kan niet worden vastgesteld." (interface language cannot be
determined) and further "interne fout 2330.
C:\ProgramFiles\openoffice.org2.4\share\config\wizard\web\layouts\frame_top."
(internal error 2330).

He tried to remove the installation and install a new one, but did not succeed.
Any suggestions are welcome.

In Writer, if you want to add points to a polygon, you get a different shape
than expected.

I think what is *supposed* to happen is that after the point is created, the
location of the point follows the mouse cursor until the mouse button is
released, so you can place the newly created point as desired.

What happens instead is that the location of the existing, adjacent point is
modified.

See the attached document.

In Draw this works correctly.

Update: the problem is, for me anyway, solved! I can now ctrl-click on an URL
and it will open.

Apparently it is possible that Firefox thinks it is the default browser when it
isn't. The solution was to run, in the start menu, "firefox.exe -silent
-setDefaultBrowser"

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser

I think it's clear that this cannot be regarded as a bug in OOo.

If this almost never happens it would not be worth the trouble to do something
about it. If more users run into this problem it might be considered to
implement a detection of this condition, so that a more helpful dialog can be
shown, or adding an entry about it in the online help.

If I ctrl-click on an URL I get a dialog saying "This file does not have a
program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in
the Folder Options control panel"

The URL in question is of the form http://{some pathname}.htm

In the Folder Options control panel both the HTM and HTML extensions are
associated with Internet Explorer, I also changed this to Firefox which did not
help. If I click on a .htm file in the file explorer IE starts normally.

I suspect it may be related to the problem that auto-update in 2.3.1 did not
work; I got a similar error dialog when attempting that.

Why is this not considered a defect???

If I select the menu option "Insert image" I want to be able to do what that
menu promises: insert an image, not editing the existing image properties (if I
wanted to do that I would have chosen Format - Image).

So this is clearly wrong.

This bug still exists in version 2.3.

I get this with OOo 2.3 (Dutch) in Windows XP. I am setting the version of this
issue to 2.3 because 1.0.1 is obviously incorrect, did not have auto-update.

See the attached screenshot of the error message which appears after clicking

Hi,

To me it looks like the first slide works OK in OOo 2.4 (1st release candidate).
In the second slide however, the onions seem sluggish and some of the onions
move behind boxes. This is on athlon an xp 1600+, 512 MB (without
performance-eating virus checker).

I also tested with OOo 2.3.0 on a Pentium III 1GHz, 256 MB. The first slide is
more smooth than what Johan gets with 2.3.1, but worse than what he gets with
2.2. The "customer" bubble gets more to the right but still not in the correct
place (the difference may have to do with screen resolution which is 1024 by 768
on this PC, different than Johan's)

With OOo 2.3.1 on a Turion 64 X2 Mobile, 792 MHz, 2GB, no virus checker, 1280 by
800 pixels, the movement appeared acceptable, but the "customer" bubble wound up
a bit too much to the left and some onions bounced behind boxes.

Hi,

Yesterday I had a problem where OOo froze, I had to kill it and lost my work
done on the document (this issue is *not* about the freezing, if I find a way
how to reproduce it I will file a separate issue)

Anyway, then I discovered that both at my work and at home, the option to
regularly save autorecovery information was set to OFF. I am sure I would not
have made this setting myself. Please check if the default setting of this
option is OFF; it should definitely be ON (otherwise users will at least lose
valuable work once before finding out about this setting, if at all).

Another thing: even though this setting is off, I have occasionally seen the
recovery dialog pop up on starting, when I had previously improperly shut down
OOo (without losing valuable work though). I suspect that a recovery file is
saved when opening an existing document or starting a blank one, even if the
autorecovery option is off. This does not make any sense because all that is
recovered is the existing document (which is, in that form, still on the disk
anyway) or a blank document. Also seeing this dialog gives the false impression
that the autorecovery option is on when in fact it isn't.
If this is the case, please correct it.

http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9815836-7.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20

that DAISY is an XML file format that enables documents to be read aloud by
speech synthesizers, converted to braille etc.
Microsoft plans to provide a plugin so that MS Office can save documents into
this file format.

It may be a good idea to provide a similar feature in OOo.

- As explained in 83394 this is also an accessibility problem. In my opinion the
priority should be P3, not P4.

- The scroll increment is actually not a number of lines, but a distance of
about 2 cm, *in addition to the font height* (which you can see when setting the
font height to 96). As the scroll increment already includes the font height, it
may be possible to reduce the additional scrolling distance to 0 without
problems such as disappearing cursors.

- In OOo 2.3, the scroll increment corresponds to 5 lines at font size 12. I
wonder if this has been changed since OOo 1.0 (9 lines). That suggests the
feasibility to (optionally) reduce the scroll increment further.

In Writer, when you are with the cursor at the bottom of the window, and you go
to the next line, the text shifts up by five lines.

I received a question from someone who has trouble dealing with sudden visual
movements such as these, due to an accident (serious whiplash). Enabling the
smooth scrolling option does not help. This is withholding him from switching
from MS Word which scrolls by less lines and thus is easier on his eyes.

The requested feature is an option that makes Writer scroll the text by only one
line instead of five, when the cursor goes to the next line at the bottom of the
window.

Hi Pavel,

Yes, the letters of the alphabet are also considered Dutch words, as well as
their plurals such as "D's".

It may not be strictly necessary to have these entries in the Myspell/Hunspell
dictionary, not for OpenOffice.org at least, since it doesn't spell check single
letter words. But on the other hand, the space they take up is hardly a problem.

By the way, en_US.dic also contains these.

Actually, the latest Dutch spell checking dictionary still doesn't include this
particular word.

However, this issue is already being addressed in two ways.

In the OpenTaal project we are working towards using the compound feature of
Hunspell, where this word would be accepted if "douane" and "procedures" are
marked as potential constituents of a compound word. This is a bit tricky; we
want to avoid that this causes spelling mistakes such as "kruitkoek",
"bruidengom" and "rodenkool" (correct spellings: "kruidkoek", "bruidegom",
"rodekool") to be accepted as well. We have some ideas how to achieve this.

We have also started to prepare the next version of the dictionary. It will be
expanded by adding many less frequently used words, which may well include
"douaneprocedures".

I have my doubts regarding the suggested feature, because manual hyphens can
also be inserted between syllables that are not words on their own.

Therefore I propose to leave the status of this issue as NEW (as I don't plan to
implement the suggested solution) and to resolve it as a WORKSFORME once we have
a new version of the dictionary available that accepts the word
"douaneprocedures" one way or the other.

By the way, it should not be necessary to add words such as "douane" and
"procedures" to your user dictionary, because the Dutch spell checking
dictionary (in any case since the july 2005 version) already contains these.

In our user's mailing list a user reported that OOo refused to start up after
having run Hitman Pro, and he could not reinstall it. The installation stopped
with an error 1935 and then rolled back.

With a new attempt he also got Internal error 2908
{D01FF31D-E0B2-4AA9-9A63-C1C93F74088B} followed by Error 1935. An error occurred
during installation of cli_basetypes,publicKeyToken="ce2cb7e279207b9e",version="
 1.0.7.0",culture="neutral".
(actually the error was in Dutch; my translation here).

In the end the problem was resolved after the following steps:
- running "msiexec /unregister" from the start menu, followed by running
"msiexec /register"
- find all directories having to do with OOo (such as in Program Files and in
Documents and Settings//Application data) and removing or renaming
them
- find on the harddisk any files named cli_types.dll and removing or renaming
them
- back up the registry, then delete any groups and keys having to do with
OpenOffice.org
- removing or renaming mscoree.dll from \Windows\System32

After the last step, logged in as another user, he was able to reinstall OOo.
This had not been possible until mscoree.dll was removed, so that seems to be an
essential step. Whether any of the other steps were actually necessary is
unclear.

The Dutch OOo 2.3.0 is on the mirrors since yesterday, but the check on update
option in both OOo 2.1 and in OOo 2.21 under Windows XP still reports that there
is no newer version available.

How does the update check work anyway? Should it be sufficient to get a new
build distributed to the mirrors, or is there some specific action required to
make its availability known for update checking?

If one has unchecked "automatic updates" at installation, might this also
disable explicit checking for updates using the menu?

Yesterday, subscribers to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] received about 120
messages due to the echoing back and forth of an automatic absence notification
message of one subscriber. This took place in just over half an hour, after
which our co-lead fortunately became aware of the problem and unsubscribed the
offending account.

For your reference, the offending messages are those from [EMAIL PROTECTED] that
were received starting from 18 Aug 2007 14:28:11 -

Can something be implemented to prevent this (or worse) from happening again?
For instance, by not accepting emails containing exactly the same body text as
the email previously received from that account.

Please update the bundled Dutch spell checking word list by the new version,
which you can find in
http://www.opentaal.org/download.php?file=/bestanden/nl_NL-Pack (unzip it to
find a file nl_NL.zip, which contains the necessary files nl_NL.dic, nl_NL.aff
and README_nl_NL.txt)

The new word list was considerably extended and improved within the new OpenTaal
project. We were able to get it certified by the Nederlandse Taalunie (the
official institute that defines the Dutch spelling rules)

The license for the spell checking word list is LGPL as before.

For more info on the OpenTaal project (in English), see
http://www.opentaal.org/english.php

Hi,

When the attached MS Word document is loaded into OOo, the height/width
proportion of the bitmap images in it is slightly altered, so that circles
become ovals. This may not be immediately apparent, but it becomes very clear
with repeated editing, saving (as a .doc) and reloading. With each time the
images become not only narrower, but also lose some height. I suspect this is
the case with all bitmap images in MS Word documents.

This file is from the author of a self-published stamp collector's handbook who
has all his files prepared in MS Word. He would like to switch to
OpenOffice.org, but the fact that the documents cannot be imported properly
prevents this.

Hopefully this scaling error is simple to fix, which would further improve the
compatibility with MS Word documents.

Best regards,
Simon Brouwer

[l10n-issues] [Issue 72919] Frisian, Western (Netherla nds) Locale

Hi,

The fy_NL locale has already been present in OOo since version 1.9.

According to http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php, the
iso693-1 and iso692-2 codes for the Frisian variant that is spoken in the
Netherlands (Western Frisian) are fry and fy.

>From http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fries_(taal) and
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_639 (sorry, Dutch pages)
I understand that the language code "fri" had been considered for iso639 but
was already marked as retired before the standard had been ratified.

So I propose that the locale code fy_NL is kept as it is already implemented.

The Frisian language can already be selected in the Format - Character dialog
box so Frisian spell checking is supported. However, the selection is missing in
Tools - Options - Language settings - Languages - Default language for documents
(maybe not *exactly* that, I am translating from the Dutch GUI). Could you add
the item in this selection list as well?

Thanks,
Simon.

You can find the original file here:
http://www.ntg.nl/spelling/dutch96.pat

It is actually distributed under the LGPL, as stated on this page:
http://www.ntg.nl/spelling/index.html. It was previously under some other
license but the author, Piet Tutelaers, agreed to change this especially so it
could be distributed with OpenOffice.org.

[sc-issues] [Issue 18748] At autocompletion TAB-key- use no longer leads to cell travel

Hi,
Can we try to agree on the best solution then?

Options:
- no change, i.e. in some cases Tab is used to move to next cell, in other cases
for autocompletion, which is confusing and annoying.

- keep Tab for autocomplete, use some other key to move to next cell (apparently
this is comparable to MS Excel; in this case which key is used for the moving?)

- keep Tab for moving to next cell and Ctrl+tab for autocompletion selection
(this is comparable to OOo Writer)

I think the last option is the best.

Hi all,

Please correct me if I incorrectly summarize this issue:

* Problems are likely to occur when placing OOo's libfreetype in front of the
system libfreetype, because it may be older/more limited than what other system
libraries expect (as I found out today, building OOo on a recent Linux
system).

* This could be fixed by statically linking the private libfreetype into VCL.

* An objection could be that the private libfreetype might be removed
altogether. However, in the issues 52025 and 52026 where this was considered,
the conclusion seemed to be that keeping it is preferable.

So would it be a good idea to reopen this issue?
