Nice to see this issue getting some attention after a while.

I have used the workaround that AW has suggested and it works pretty well, but
if you have multiple lines of text, only the first row is visible with this
option enabled. Still, if this feature already exists in the code base, it is
shame that so useful feature is so well hidden from the ordinary users. I think
more people would use it if this setting could be integrated to the regular
Format - Text dialog, where you already can set position of the text ancor.

Also, it would be useful if the orientation option could be made automatic.

[sw-issues] [Issue 82926] Columns in index/table get mangeled when saving as .doc Word format

Ignore my last comment.

I tested this a little bit more and found out that it is the tab-stop position
that is messing Word layout. It seems that Word can't handle it if the tab-stop
position is more than the column width. If I change the tab-stop position to the
column width, then Word displays the columns correctly.

Because of this I think that issue 59347 is not related. I think Issue 59347
just about that Word can't Evenly distribute contents to all columns.

If you save a document in .doc word format that has Index/Table with 2 or more
columns they get mangeled in the process when opening with Microsoft Word. When
opening with Microsoft Word the columns of the Index expand over the page width
and the right most characters in each column are not displayed. Openoffice does
however displays the the columns correctly when opening the .doc document with
Openoffice Writer.

This defect maybe not sound so serious with the Table of Content example,
because those usually have only one column. But it also affects the
Alphabethical index just the same, and alphabethical indexes usually have 2
columns.

I looked at the issue 59347 and there was a workaround by unchecking the Evenly
distribute contents to all columns option. Unfortunately this option does not
exist in the Index/Table dialogs columns tab. Maybe it could be added there too
as a quick fix until something can be done to issue 59347, which apparently is
not going to be anytime soon.

Apparently this bug is a result of a root element name change in
the content.xml file. In 2.1 and previous versions the root element
is named office:document and in 2.2 it is named office:document-content.

If you manually change the root element name to office:document-content
in the content.xml file, then the outline numbering is restored again.

After looking little deeper, I see that the root element name has not
been office:document 2.1 and previous, but most likely in some of the
development version that that I was using when creating my Java program
to automatically create OOo documents.

Now my problem is solved, I just have to change the root element name
in the xslt file that the program uses to create the content.xml document.
Though it is strange that 2.1 and previous versions had no problems in
opening my documents with the wrong root element name and showing the
outline numbering.

However the problem that thijsj9 reported is still open and different
from the bug that I orignally reported.

Hi,

I have a .odt document that is created automatically from
a XML file. It is created by Java program that uses
a normal .odt file as a template and creates a new contents.xml
file by xslt transformation and replaces the one in the
template file with the generated contents.xml file.

In the end of the file there are headings that should have
outline numbering, but when you open the file with OOo 2.2
the outline numbering gets lost. With OOo 2.1 the file opens
correctly. If I save the file after opening the file in OO 2.2
and view the styles.xml file, I find that the
style:default-outline-level attribute in the Heading styles
is gone. The text:outline-style element is still correct.

When document has x (1,2..) number of Next record fields and more than
25 paragraphs or newlines, mail merge skips the first x-records and
then prints the following x+1 records. This behaviour is then repeated
to the end of the records.

Look at the example document.

When you save a mail-merge document throught the mail-merge wizzard
there is an option to save the document to a single file. It would
be very usefull (at least to me ;)) if this option would also be
available in the regular mail-merge print dialog.
I think people would also notice this feature better if it would
be also in regular mail-merge print dialog and I would not have to
advice separetly people to go through the mail-merge wizzard if
they want to save the document to a single file.

Thanks.

Also, this would allow you to control witch rows are included

Thank you very much for looking into this issue.

and instead of calling URI::normalizedMakeRelative (or
URI::simpleNormalizedMakeRelative) you would call some non-normalizing
makeRelative function with pre-normalized input while saving.

Wouldn't this also speed up the local saving considerably by
reducing filesystem calls :) .

I know it takes usually more time to save to a network drive
with any application, but 2 min 15 sec for a 109kb document
is just too much IMHO. Even the 40 sec save to a harddisk is
already quite long.

I just tried it on a 100 Mbps connectien where the is no
other traffic, turned off all other applications including
realtime virus protection and it still takes 2min 15sec .
I have no other applications that saves to a network drive
even nearly this long time, even with many times larger
documents.

Also opening the document from a local harddisk takes 15 sec
and opening from a network drive takes the same time, 15 sec.
Opening the document from a network drive is no slower than
opening from a harddisk. Considering there is no difference
in the opening times, the save time difference is quite long.
Yes I know saving is slower, but this much.

Also if OO could first save the network document locally and
then just copy it over the network. The save time would be only
40 sec + 1 sec instead of 2 min 15 sec.

Anyway, thanks for your time.

Sorry to bother you again, but I have investigated this
problem a little bit more and found out some interesting
stuff.

1.
By watching the system monitor I found that during
the 2min 15sec saving OO takes about 2.5% from the
100 Mbps connection.
Thats about (0.025 * 100 Mbps * 135s )/ 8 = 42Mb
of data transferd back and forth the line.

2.
Monitoring the sent and received bytes confirmed
that saving the document produced
Send bytes: 15 531 025
Received bytes: 18 295 856
Total: 33,8 Mb of data

So saving 110 kb document creates 33,8 Mb of network traffic.

3.
I also used a filemonitor to monitor filesystem activities
during the save to find out what was happening.
Monitoring the file revealed that apparently OO checks the
state of the file about 10 000 times which shows as
repetation of block of log data below int the filemonitor
log file.

This block repeats about 9350 times filemonitor log file.

Hi,

I have found that saving document to a network
drive is 50% to 200% slower than to local harddisk.
This is with a 100Mbs unused LAN connection to a
normal windows workgroup share.

For example:
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/12573/OpenDocument-v1.0-os.sxw
Saving this document to a local harddisk takes 20 seconds
and to a network drive 30 seconds.

A document network_save_test.odt which is an
example of vocabulary document that my nonprofit
organization uses to publish technical finnish
language vocabularies takes 40 seconds to save
to a local harddisk and 2min 15 seconds to save
to a network drive. That is over 200% more.

Server: 1600 Mhz P4, WinXP

Client: +2200 AthlonXP, WinXP

OO does not show courves in inserted WMF pictures at all and
straight dotted lines are shown as solid lines.

Take a look at the attachments.

Thanks for the response.

Interesting, actually I have already tested this fonttest.xml
file with JEdit and I can't see any invalid characters there.
I have opened it also with several other text editors and no
invalid characters there.
Also if I rename fonttest.xml to fonttext.txt and open it as
plain text file in OO, I cant see any invalid characters.

BTW the finnish language characters are valid and the
all the russian characters. I mean the kind of squares you
see in the screenshot file fonttest.jpg I have attached.
Have you looked at it.

Do you mean that you see that kind of square or othervise
invalid characters (depending on the fontset you have)
when you open the document in JEdit. Could you add a
screenshot of your view in JEdit showing these ivalid
characters there.

Please take another look at this, because this is a really
big problem for me and I think there is more to this.

If you just have a little time to spear and look at the
new sceenshot I attached and see is the character problem
you saw on your JEdit the same. Also if you just could
attach a screenshot view of how the example xml document
looks like in your JEdit.

I really use JEdit regularry and I have no problems with
the source file fonttest.xml with JEdit. JEdit shows the
file perfectly as does OO when opened as plain text file.

As I understand OO uses Xalan for xlst transformation.
This issue however does not seem to be Xalan related becasue
if do the transformation manually eg.
copy the OpenOffice.org 1.9.93\program\classes\xalan.jar
and related packages to c:\ and run
C:\java -classpath c:\xalan.jar;c:\xml-apis.jar;c:xercesImpl.jar
org.apache.xalan.xslt.Process -in fonttest.xml -xsl fonttest.xsl -out
fonttestout.xml

the resulting fonttestout.xml file is outputted correctly and
has no invalid characters.

When importing XML to OpenOffice through a custom XSLT filter,
in some special conditions OO produces invalid output of
certain non english characters randomly. These invalid characters
appear as in the resulting document. In Finnish language these
characters are . Similary also certain special german,
russian, etc couse randomly invalid character output.

To produce this bug, the source XML document has to be relatively
large. I have a simple XSLT file to produce XML filter and a simple
XML file to be tranformed from demostrating this bug.

To produce the bug make a simple XML filter fonttest of the attached
fonttest.xsl document and open the attached fonttest.xml document
with it.

The transformation should go fine, but you should notice a few
character spread randomly around the document.

If you add Heading 1 after the last heading and
remove it, outline numbering gets done correctly.

Also, this can only be reproduced in a situation
when the outline numbering is set as said
AFTER THE TEXT IS WRITTEN.

I found this when doing xml filter to OO and
wondered why there is no outline number on the
last heading.

This issue still exists in the 1.9.87 and I think
it is very important to be fixed before 2.0.

Has this issue been forgotten some where in between.

there is apparently a fix for that issue that

Each time you open a document with User-Defined index entries
outline levels of those entries are increased by one. If you
open and save the document many times, the outline level of
an index entry becomes eventually 10. When trying to open a
document that has an index entry with outline level 10, the
opening of the document fails because OO tries to increase the
outline level 11. This is very serious because it leads to
corrupted documents

Table of contents index entries change only from outline-level
10 to 1.

Steps to produce the error:

Create a new text document. Insert a new User-Defined index entry
test with outline level 8 in the beginning of the document.
Now save the document, close it and open it again. Now the level
of the index entry is 9. If you save the document and open it again
the outline level of the index entry is 10. If save the document
once more and try to open, it fails because outline level cannot
be 11.

As a note this bug prevents the user from saving and opening

I just installed m77 and it seems that enhancement:
37381 - Database - Save Form Window dimensions into *.odb file

has apparently fixed this bug because the window
size and position remains fixed. I guess the strange
zooming bug still exists in the code but as the window
dimensions are fixed it does not matter.

Form controls changing size based on the last window size
when closing the form.

For example open the attached .odb document below. Open
the Investments form. Now close it and open it again and
you see that the form controls have changed size. Resize
the window so that the controls barely fit the window and
close the form and open it again. Now the text is so small
you can barely read it.

Example document

Expected behaviour:
When printing as form letter it should print all
the titles of example bibliography database and
pages field as hidden paragraph for those records
that it exits.

Current behaviour:
All the titles print out correctly, but none of
the books pages field is printed.
However when printed to a file the pages field will be
printed correctly.

Address Data Source.. Wizard does not work for other external data sources.

Steps to produce bug:
1.
File - Wizard - Address Data Source..
2.
Select Other external data source and press next
3.
press Settings
4.
Now in the Database type Adabas D is on grey color
and you can not change.

Quick fix:
5.
Click cancel in the current Setting dialog
6.
Click back
7.
Now select Mozilla / Netscape as data source
for example and click next.
8.
Click back or Ok if data source was not found.
9.
Now select Other external data source again
and press next.
10.
Click Settings
11.
Now you are somehow able to change the database
type.

Scrolling does not work in a fixed width and height
frame that has multiple paragraps that span over
the area of the frame.
If you have only one paragraph inside the frame that
spans over the area ot frame, scrolling forks fine.
