Drag the reports from the attached database into any of your native HSQLDBs.
They do not show any information on tables, columns and indices anymore.

Instead of copying the contained reports to one of your databases, you may also
create an arbitrary table with PK in the blank database and run the reports
against this one ;)

Comment out the error handler 'on error goto errExit

Insert a new Module named CELL in the global standard lib.

Save the document, restart the office with the spreadsheet and run the macro.
If fails with Method/property not found in line
  cursor = cell.createTextCursor

Remove module CELL, restart the office and the macro works.

Yes, I tried the report builder several times without much success. It's just
another bag of bugs.
I like the simplicity of the old wizard dumping row sets into Writer tables.
When I need more than that I prefer Calc as reporting engine. Calc provides
sufficient layout features, calculated fields, summaries, pivot tables, charts
and more.

In this context I discovered that any field type except Boolean can be defined
as DEFAULT NULL NOT NULL.
The grids and the forms will leave the field blank and Base will complain one
way or the other when the user tries to store without filling the empty field.

Try this with a boolean field. For a mandatory boolean field (NOT NULL) Base
will always put a false False into the grid or form control respectively.

IMHO it should return 0 for any text (even numeric text) and for #NA.
Even if the ODF specification of N is somewhat unspecific, it should certainly
not return #VALUE for a given non-numeric text.

First of all, I did not file an issue about spreadsheet formatting. The issue is
related to spreadsheet values (text/number/error) rather than formatting.
The defect (or unwanted new behaviour) is in the Base driver for spreadsheet
lists which plays an important role as a mail merge supplier.

A numeric spreadsheet column with = gets invalidated (all empty) in Base
3.2.1, whereas version 3.1.1 turns all numbers into strings.

A numeric spreadsheet column with =1/0 or =NA() shows the errors as zeroes in
Base 3.2.1 as well as in 3.1.1.

The complete invalidation of a numeric field due to some text value is not
acceptable because it irritates too many users who used to use text data with
mail merges in previous versions. Mind that the vast majority of mail merges is
based on spreadsheet lists.

IMHO the conversion from errors to zeroes is questionable but that one does not
affect many users.

I think this is related to 70206 I've just read but let me put it this way:
Connecting Base to a csv directory, you can specify a decimal delimiter but only
the locale delimiter is used.

US_Date,text,text,decimal
01/02/09,DIRECTDEP,xx, 1167.46
01/02/09,Check 1129,x, 30.00
01/05/09,CREDIT,ATM DEPOSIT , 1830.35
01/05/09,DEBIT,WIRE INT'L Sx, 148.30
01/05/09,Check 1128,, 350.00

In a German locale it is impossible to import these data for 2 reasons:
1. Base can not handle date locales to import (other issue)
2. Even though I specified the point as decimal separator, I always get text.

The second point is a defect I think.

--- Additional comments from ville...@openoffice.org Fri Mar 19 09:42:35

I changed this from ENHANCEMENT to DEFECT because some reports on the user
forums and mailing lists indicate that v3.2 invalidates the whole spreadsheet
column of mixed numbers and string.
Therefore I changed version number from my 3.1.1 to 3.2 since there is nothing
to enhance for 3.1.1 and I was not aware of the changes in 3.2 since I wiped it
off my disk.

This is an important issue because spreadsheets are the most frequently used
data source for mail merges and alike. People complain about the fact that the
column data are not even displayed as text.

The spreadsheet driver imports empty cells as empty strings. A numeric column
with gaps imports as numbers or dates.
Strangely, you need to test for empty strings when filtering these row sets:
WHERE Numbers=''
WHERE Numbers IS NULL fails.

As a matter of fact, many spreadsheets contain calculated empty strings in
numeric columns. For instance:
=IF(B2 ; A2/B2 ; )
returns an empty string if B2 evaluates to False (zero or text).
There is no way to make a sheet cell pretend to be empty.

The Base driver treats this column as text.
Base treats empty cells as empty strings but refuses to treat empty strings like
empty cells.

There have are complaints about this in the context of mail merges with
calculated date fields (or empty string).

I filed this issue on behalf of another user.
- Using the latest OOo3.2 he opens a form bound to a boolean field in an
embedded HSQLDB like the one I attached in the linked forum topic.
- Toolbar Form Navigation, button Form-Based Filters reloads a special view
of the form for criteria input. Another toolbar Form Filter pops up.
- Set the check box to boolean status True and click the first button on toolbar
Form Filter to apply the filter.
- You get a filtered form content where all the boolean values in the filtered
field are True.
- In my version 3.1.1 I can still edit the boolean field and set one of its
values to False whereas in his version 3.2 he gets the (partially German) error
message Fehler beim Schreiben des aktuellen Datensatzes. No data is available

I removed RC2 and reverted to v3.1.1 in order to test the above linked database
with the version that has created the database.
The embedded form New Invoice does not work as intended since the subform is
bound through inappropriate fields. At least it works somehow without error.

The similar form attached to the spreadsheet does work with the intended subform
binding. Registration name is Invoices (proper cased).

Number format WW with DATE(2010;1;4)
TEXT(DATE(2010;1;4);WW)

all return 2 in English(UK/US/Australia).
Other locales return 1, which seems to be the correct value (German, French).

However, allow me an additional question:
If ...
WEEKNUM(DATE(2010;1;4);1)
... returns 1 because SUNDAY 4th Jan marks the first week, why does ...
WEEKNUM(DATE(2010;1;4);2)

All list boxes converted from some other control should have the drop down
property set by default because most likely the former control was a single-line
control as it is already the case within table controls.
After conversion and setting up the data properties, the list box appears to be
unbound. It is not obvious that the error is not in the data properties.

Another example: http://www.mediafire.com/?fzmjwqdyxdm
Open form qCurrentStatus and try to remove the preset time value.
It works as designed when you clear the value from qFilterRow2 or table
Filter.
No, this has nothing to do with the spin buttons.

A time field bound to a nullable table field with property Input required=No
and a spin button refuses to stay empty when you delete its content string.
The attached database with form demonstrates the issue. Remove the contents of
the boxes that are shifted to the right side.
The time stays visible although it is removed from the table until you remove
the spinner.
The numeric fields write zero instead of Null.
Not shure if the latter is by design. At least it is confusing.

Refer to the attached database.
- Form1 lets you add integers to a list with auto-ID and auto-stamp.
- Form2 fails to show the running total based on the order of stamps (subform on
Query1).
- Form3 demonstrates that it works with running totals based on the order of IDs

Draw a check box on a sheet, set linked cell to some cell. Works as expected.
However, in design mode you can change but not reset the linked cell to Null.

I just read that http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=104318 is a
duplicate of this one. OK, here's another possibly related phaenomenon:
I need a fixed sequence of tiny integers. I prepare a table ZN with a single
column N TINY INT PK, use Calc to generate a field N(1 to 255) and paste it.
The table gets all values from -256 to +255 without the zero.

Get a text database with a column of ISO-dates.
SELECT YEAR( Date ) AS Year,
 QUARTER( Date ) AS Quarter,
 MONTH( Date ) AS Month
FROM Table1 AS Table1
ORDER BY Year ASC
fails to sort. Same with ORDER BY Month.

Surprisingly, ORDER BY Quarter includes the years and months. It is the same
as ORDER BY Year,Quarter,Month

I'll attach a database with 2 queries. Open any of them in SQL view, close, then
open in design view, do some null-edit(append space) in any view and store.
Either query gets modified in a way that it can not return the same row set as
the initial version.

Short description copied from the input form:
- This is how I defined Q:
SELECT * FROM T
WHERE ( ( :pX = X ) OR ( :pX IS NULL ) )
  AND ( ( :pY = Y ) OR ( :pY IS NULL ) )

- This is what the designer makes of it when you opened it in design view and
then switch to SQL view:
SELECT * FROM T
WHERE(X = :pX AND Y = :pY OR X = :pX OR Y = :pY)

Saving anything based on this version would break the intention.

- Same problem with the counterpart QReport reading the criteria directly from
table F where FID=0:
SELECT T.* FROM T, F
WHERE F.FID=0
AND((T.X = F.FX)OR(F.FX IS NULL))
AND((T.Y = F.FY)OR(F.FY IS NULL))

- This is what the designer makes of it when you opened it in design view and
then switch to SQL view:
SELECT T.* FROM F, T WHERE ( F.FID = 0 AND T.X = F.FX AND
F.FX IS NULL AND T.Y = F.FY OR F.FY IS NULL )

By the way: What is wrong with the V column in my form? It's a numeric field
with 5 decimals and it shows only 0.0 although the field has random numbers
between 0 and 1.

Oh, and the main form works as intended when the numeric fields are replaced
with formatted fields. I did not know that numeric fields are not nullable.

Don't know how to classify this. It behaves as desired but not specified, in the
wrong place though.

In the attached HSQLDB table Data has duplicates of Name AND Value.
ViewDupes gives an overview over duplicate entries.
ViewDeleteDupes shows all but the latest duplicates which can be deleted with:
DELETE FROM Data WHERE ID IN (SELECT ID FROM ViewDeleteDupes);

The specified behaviour seems to be that all views are always read-only, even if
they rely on a single table including the PK. At least this is what I got used
to and ViewDeleteDupes gives a read-only record set.

OK, open ViewDeleteDupes for editing and run the query for preview
(menu:EditRun Query). The preview pane gives an editable row set where I can
delete my duplicates in a GUI.

I wish I could have editable row sets for regular use.

Many people collect data in emailed spreadsheets and it is a quite common
problem that OOo does not allow to merge tables or collect records from various
sources.
When I drag a spreadsheet range into the beamer, the only reactive part is the
tables section of some database. I drop my range and then I have to enter the
table name and choose option Append Data.
I believe that Base could be a little bit more attractive if you could collect
data a little bit easier.
2 things I could think of:
Drag and drop on a table should start the import wizard with the right table
name and append option.
The same should be possible with writable queries. A query starting with the
right order of fields could help to import data in two steps. Dragdrop and
confirm the field order.

Currently you can drag almost anything from a database's grid view into a
spreadsheet, except for columns.
To import a set of columns you have to define a query first (SELECT
field_listFROM Table).
When the user drags a column from the beamer, an opened table or view, an opened
query or from a form's table view, the name of the record set, the sort fields
and the filtered fields are well known and it should be possible to generate a
simple query like
SELECT dropped_fields FROM Table_or_Query WHERE current_view_filter ORDER
BY current_view_sorting

Oh, and for the linked import ranges to be created by column drop:
I can write a macro which imports and stores row sets from arbitrary SELECTs,
even though no GUI feature supports this viable option.

Don't know the specs. Could be a request for enhancment.
You can enter or edit a formula, say =NOW() and while in edit mode F9 evaluates
the formula so you finally enter the calculated result.
This does not work with arrays.
It's one of these Excel-can-do kind of issue.

I'd say this is a P2 issue if SUMIF is the only function where the new shit
fails.
Other users complain that INDIRECT fails completely with the new link type,
which is natural because there is not hidden sheet anymore. INDIRECT has been
used by quite a few users with CELL(filename) for references with relative

Pick a value from the validation list and calculate with
MATCH(validatedCell;SourceList;0).
You could also associate arbitrary values in a 2-column list and calculate with:
VLOOKUP(validatedCell;SourceList;2;0)

Create a link, such as ='file:///path/doc_A.ods'#Sheet1.A1
Save.
Call menu:EditLinks... and choose another file.
This will also change the reference to ='file:///path/doc_B.ods'#Sheet1.A1
Close or reload.
Note that you are not prompted to save.

Define a one-row db-range of column headers.
Set the above mentioned general option.
Insert a first new row below the new db-range.
The db-range does not expand.

Off topic, but same context: The header's formatting expands to the new row,
regardless of general option expand formattings being set or not, which is a
known problem.

A template for a database range needs to be implemented with a first dummy
record which can be deleted after inserting a second row of data.

Yes, now it's clear why it has to be 2 columns at least. Otherwise references
within the same row would expand vertically. A calculated field X2 =A2+B2 may
become =A2:A3+B2:B3 or something like that. It's just an annoyance that you have
to define a new db-range with a dummy record below the header, since this option
is most useful with database-like lists.
IMHO, all database ranges should behave like this automatically whereas any
other cell range should behave as normal. One confusing option less.

I don't know how it is called, but there is a mechanism which fetches the
parallel values from referenced vectors:
C1 =$A$1:$A$99 + $B$1:$B$99
returns the same as $A1+$B1 automatically fetching the respective values from
the same row of the referenced vectors.
This is how most named ranges use to work. =Price*Count automatically fetches
this row's values from the referenced vectors.
The same uses to work horizontally as well fetching from same column of a
parallel horizontal vector.

This is not implemented for the conditional formatting.
May affect Excel compatibility.
Cell validation can do the trick.

Thank you for testing this and providing 2 valid work-arounds.
Yes, named references do work in cond. formatting as well as in cell validation.
Both features take formulas without leading = with quoted strings, unquoted
addresses, numbers and names.
Commonly used example: cell_value MAX(other_range)

Your work-around with the formula operator does work.
'Labels' can do the trick using both methods, formula=('Price'*'Count')$D2 as
well as cell_value 'Price'*'Count'.

The user who initiated the forum thread stumbled upon the fact that the latter
approach fails with named references. cell_value Price*Count fails whereas
formula = (Price*Count)$D2 works as expected, so there is a bug indeed. Without
having tried, I'd think that Excel would handle this as expected.

There is a handy option to expand adjacent formula ranges to imported database
ranges. I encountered a strange issue when I tried this feature with a database
range. I'll attach a spreadsheet where I could reproduce the issue with a
db-range bound to the infamous Bibliography.biblio.
It has no data stored but 2 versions of the same array formula with relative and
absolute references.
When you open the file you are prompted for update.
After updating, the first calculated field looks right, but has many overlapping
array formulas, the second field shows only the first result in all rows while
showing the expected array formula.

The work-around refers to a form control. IMHO, the main issue is that all
numeric fields (including datestimes) in any plain grid-view of any writable
row set behaves as described.
When you scroll through such a grid you are always in danger to edit values
accidentally.

Open the Bibliography database and add a query
SELECT Identifier FROM biblio WHERE Identifier = 'OOO00'
Create a most simple report based on that query (3 clicks in the report wizard).
Close the report, change the query, for instance:
SELECT Identifier FROM biblio WHERE Identifier 'OOO00'
Reload the report. It shows the same single record although the query has
changed.

Work-around:
Open the report in edit mode.
Get the form navigator. It shows 6 hidden controls (named values as
configuration).
One of them is Command. Get the property window for Command. It's value is
the SQL string of our query at creation time.
Delete that SELECT query, save the report, load it, change query, reload
report,... works as expected.

In version 3 only ($SheetX.$A$1;$SheetX.$C$1) is valid.
Both syntactical variants are incompatible to each other.
See http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9t=13839 for
further reference and example file.

[sc-issues] [Issue 85540] Insert Link to External Data applies number formatting

Yes, as far as I understand 71997 it's similar. Let me add a very common
example:
Trying to link tables of sport results (Nine to Twelve), you may get the
following evaluation of strings to formatted numbers:
9-12 = this year's 9th of December or US Dec 12th respectively
9:12 = 0.38333 (fraction of a day)
With any other import method there is some trick to enforce literal strings,
except for Link to external data which always overwrites formatting and
values, evaluating everything in numeric context.
Link to external data works well with file:// links as long as the referenced
file has named tables embedded, such as named tables in html, named ranges or
database ranges in spreadsheets (no text-tables, unfortunately).

^[:space:]*[:alnum:]+[:space:]+
removes all words except for the last one when you replace with nothing.
With some replace string the first word gets replaced as expected.

Compared with
^[[:space:]]*[[:alnum:]]+[[:space:]]+
in emacs where it removes the first word as expected when you replace with
nothing.

Load any form with a subform and change the source type of either one to some
unparsed SQL query. For instance, change (sub-) form's source from TableX to
direct SQL SELECT * FROM TableX. The subform won't follow the main form

Open the form of the attached database.
Jump from item to item and watch the subform showing the category of the
selected item. Close the form.
Open any of the queries in SQL view and turn on direct SQL mode (Edit menu).
Store the query and open the form again. The categories are not bound to the

It's a long known issue that you can not un-filter a range when the unnamed
database range moved to another place. With version 2 I could fix this problem
by selecting a column, apply any filter and remove it again. This seems to be
impossible with version 3.

quarters, tenths or any other decimal fraction although it can be formatted as
and bound to all kinds of numeric fields.

Functions like =ROWS(dbRange) do not update when the database range resizes on
refresh. Hard recalculation does not help. Re-entering gives the expected
result. The attached document was created to investigate the meaning of db-range
options and I stumbled upon this defect which affects target ranges of filter
and sort operations. It does *not* affect db-ranges imported from database
ranges.
OT: Are my comments and suggestions in the attached spreadsheet worth a request
for enhancement or should I better start a discussion on some mail list (which)?

OT2: Does anybody know off-hand what c.s.s.sheet.DatabaseRange.FromSelection is?
boolean FromSelection;
Usage Restrictions
optional
Description
specifies whether the imported data is only a selection of the database.

I can't get it True, no matter which object I drag from a data source into a
spreadsheet.

The user interface allows you to copy a pilot by simply defining another
destination cell in the wizard of the existing pilot. The result is a fully
functional pilot, member in the respective sheet's collection of data pilots.
However, a macro fails silently to refresh this bastard.

Trying to create a new form from scratch, I get a blank new Writer document.
From toolbar FormDesign I call the forms navigator, add a new form to the
forms container. At this point I'm unable to access the properties for the newly
created form. The dialog does not pop up. In order to go on I have to draw an
arbitrary control while having the form selected in the navigator or I need to
store, close and reopen the form design.
