[sc-issues] [Issue 109726] Empty cell vs empty strin g in the spreadsheet driver
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=109726 --- Additional comments from ville...@openoffice.org Tue Jun 15 06:39:10 + 2010 --- First of all, I did not file an issue about spreadsheet formatting. The issue is related to spreadsheet values (text/number/error) rather than formatting. The defect (or unwanted new behaviour) is in the Base driver for spreadsheet lists which plays an important role as a mail merge supplier. A numeric spreadsheet column with = gets invalidated (all empty) in Base 3.2.1, whereas version 3.1.1 turns all numbers into strings. A numeric spreadsheet column with =1/0 or =NA() shows the errors as zeroes in Base 3.2.1 as well as in 3.1.1. The complete invalidation of a numeric field due to some text value is not acceptable because it irritates too many users who used to use text data with mail merges in previous versions. Mind that the vast majority of mail merges is based on spreadsheet lists. IMHO the conversion from errors to zeroes is questionable but that one does not affect many users. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A numeric column with gaps imports as numbers or dates. Strangely, you need to test for empty strings when filtering these row sets: WHERE Numbers='' WHERE Numbers IS NULL fails. As a matter of fact, many spreadsheets contain calculated empty strings in numeric columns. For instance: =IF(B2 ; A2/B2 ; ) returns an empty string if B2 evaluates to False (zero or text). There is no way to make a sheet cell pretend to be empty. The Base driver treats this column as text. Base treats empty cells as empty strings but refuses to treat empty strings like empty cells. There have are complaints about this in the context of mail merges with calculated date fields (or empty string). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It behaves as desired but not specified, in the wrong place though. In the attached HSQLDB table Data has duplicates of Name AND Value. ViewDupes gives an overview over duplicate entries. ViewDeleteDupes shows all but the latest duplicates which can be deleted with: DELETE FROM Data WHERE ID IN (SELECT ID FROM ViewDeleteDupes); The specified behaviour seems to be that all views are always read-only, even if they rely on a single table including the PK. At least this is what I got used to and ViewDeleteDupes gives a read-only record set. OK, open ViewDeleteDupes for editing and run the query for preview (menu:EditRun Query). The preview pane gives an editable row set where I can delete my duplicates in a GUI. When I drag a spreadsheet range into the beamer, the only reactive part is the tables section of some database. I drop my range and then I have to enter the table name and choose option Append Data. I believe that Base could be a little bit more attractive if you could collect data a little bit easier. 2 things I could think of: Drag and drop on a table should start the import wizard with the right table name and append option. The same should be possible with writable queries. A query starting with the right order of fields could help to import data in two steps. Dragdrop and confirm the field order. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Otherwise references within the same row would expand vertically. A calculated field X2 =A2+B2 may become =A2:A3+B2:B3 or something like that. It's just an annoyance that you have to define a new db-range with a dummy record below the header, since this option is most useful with database-like lists. IMHO, all database ranges should behave like this automatically whereas any other cell range should behave as normal. This is how most named ranges use to work. =Price*Count automatically fetches this row's values from the referenced vectors. The same uses to work horizontally as well fetching from same column of a parallel horizontal vector. This is not implemented for the conditional formatting. May affect Excel compatibility. Yes, named references do work in cond. formatting as well as in cell validation. Both features take formulas without leading = with quoted strings, unquoted addresses, numbers and names. Commonly used example: cell_value MAX(other_range) Your work-around with the formula operator does work. 'Labels' can do the trick using both methods, formula=('Price'*'Count')$D2 as well as cell_value 'Price'*'Count'. The user who initiated the forum thread stumbled upon the fact that the latter approach fails with named references. cell_value Price*Count fails whereas formula = (Price*Count)$D2 works as expected, so there is a bug indeed. IMHO, the main issue is that all numeric fields (including datestimes) in any plain grid-view of any writable row set behaves as described. When you scroll through such a grid you are always in danger to edit values accidentally. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 85540] Insert Link to External Data applies number formatting

Let me add a very common example: Trying to link tables of sport results (Nine to Twelve), you may get the following evaluation of strings to formatted numbers: 9-12 = this year's 9th of December or US Dec 12th respectively 9:12 = 0.38333 (fraction of a day) With any other import method there is some trick to enforce literal strings, except for Link to external data which always overwrites formatting and values, evaluating everything in numeric context. Link to external data works well with file:// links as long as the referenced file has named tables embedded, such as named tables in html, named ranges or database ranges in spreadsheets (no text-tables, unfortunately). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [dba-issues] [Issue 92294] changes to relation's upda te/delete mode lost after re-starting OOo
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=92294 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Sep 22 16:32:59 + 2008 --- After editing the properties of a relation (double-click the line, update|delete cascade, null, default) I call the properties dialog a second time and hit [OK] without any further action. This seems to fixate the changed properties somehow. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Component|Database access Version|OOo 2.4.1 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P4 Subcomponent|none Assigned to|dbaneedsconfirm Reported by|villeroy --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Sep 7 14:45:20 + 2008 --- Trying to create a new form from scratch, I get a blank new Writer document. From toolbar FormDesign I call the forms navigator, add a new form to the forms container. At this point I'm unable to access the properties for the newly created form. The dialog does not pop up. In order to go on I have to draw an arbitrary control while having the form selected in the navigator or I need to store, close and reopen the form design. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
