Thank you for reporting this, Jerry. As Alan said, we made a test to determine that the redirection change I implemented a couple of days ago would not affect SatPC32 users, but it was apparently not a thorough test. I reverted the change, so you and other SatPC32 users will not be inconvenienced further. If anyone notices new problems crop up please cc: webmas...@amsat.org for fastest resolution. I just happened to scan amsat-bb during my lunch break today and saw this.I am implementing some back room infrastructure upgrades, so there may be other hiccups observed over the next few weeks. -Joe -Joe KM1P Jerry, We were making changes in the server. [amsat-bb] Re: Keps (MacDoppler)
Dino, Look at the kepler.dat file in the Finder. It resides in the MacDoppler data folder. You can look at the modified date in the Finder, or open the file in TextEdit... the date should show at the top of the opened document. The above instructions are for MacDopplerPro_X2.9.3. If you are using a different version, you could possibly find the kepler.dat file in another location. We suspect RAX-2 to be Object E. Our ground station rotators though are failing so we're having difficulty tracking. Our new Alfa Spids should arrive this week so we can fix. The Utah team tracked objects B and D and they were able to communicate with their satellites. Since they are using high gain, narrow beam antenna, there is little doubt that these objects are antyhing else. --Jamie James W. To show you how uncertain this whole thing is---this morning I went to Space-Track and got a set of keps for these birds. Most were dated with day 304. Just now, I went for another fresh set--they had gone back to day 303 and when compared to the previous set from early this morning, and all the AOS times are about 2-3 minutes different! Not everybody uses Celestrak. I've been asked by several people that use Amsat or ARRL keps to keep posting them until their supply of keps catch up. I don't understand why EVERYONE doesn't get theirs directly from Space-Track. That way, you specify exactly the set of keps you wish to receive. You set up a mysats file that specifies which birds you are interested in, and then you can set up a batch file that will automatically parse whatever input file you specify (like nasa.all) and output the filtered results to the filename and location that you specified. I'm the author of NASAWASH. It doesn't have that feature, though it would be a good starting point for a C programmer wishing to create such a program. If somebody added that feature already, I'm not aware of it (and the version on the AMSAT web/ftp site doesn't include it). Perhaps you're thinking of some other program you used in conjunction with NASAWASH? If you have (or install yourself) a reasonably standard grep program (such as the one at http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/grep.htm ) you can write a simple batch file script like this, assuming that you've already downloaded the elements from your favorite source to a file named inputfile: nasawash inputfile nasabare.txt grep -A 2 AO-51 nasabare.txt mynasa.txt grep -A 2 FO-29 nasabare.txt mynasa.txt grep -A 2 AO-07 nasabare.txt mynasa.txt grep -A 2 SO-67 nasabare.txt mynasa.txt The -A 2 tells grep to output the matching line and two lines following. The NASAWASH step is optional if the file you download contains nothing but the element sets. 73 -Paul kb...@amsat.org ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. I use these programs to customize a list of satellites with their current tracking data. Nova for Windows has a feature to customize a list of multiple satellites _http://www.nlsa.com/docs/nfwquick.pdf_ (http://www.nlsa.com/docs/nfwquick.pdf) and watch each satellite footprint as they travel across a rectangular map _http://www.nlsa.com/nfw_maps.html#Rect_ (http://www.nlsa.com/nfw_maps.html#Rect) I also use SATPC32 which has pretty much the same feature set. _http://www.dk1tb.de/indexeng.htm_ (http://www.dk1tb.de/indexeng.htm) ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. You should be able to take the AMSAT keps and delete the lines for the birds you do not want, save the result with the same name. Then reload that into your program and go. [amsat-bb] Re: keps age ISS
Bob, ISS being the odd one is the clue. It is the only object whose orbit is often reboosted. Usually the problem comes about if you are using the AMSAT weekly distribution. Note that you can update the NASA.ALL file and it will give today's date, but the data may be as much as a week old. You can dig into the actual file and determine the individual satelllite data date as has been described. The AMATEUR.TXT data are updated daily, sometimes more often. When you look at the SATPC32 Satellite window, check that both machines are looking at the same file, preferably AMATEUR.TXT, and that both have been updated. I use Nova for windows and it will tell how old the keps are for the selected satellite by selecting AutoTracking Summary. [amsat-bb] Re: keps age
Open the keps file and look at the first line of data for a given satellite. The 3rd number group (the first one with a decimal point in it) is the epoch time - the date time when the orbital parameters were calculated. The first 2 digits are the year, the next 3 are the Julian date (day # out of 365), and the decimal portion is the time, expressed as a fraction of a day. Looking at the current 2-line set on the AMSAT website, all of the satellites have an epoch time of either 11047.x or 11048.x, meaning they were calculated on day 47 or 48 of this year. [amsat-bb] Re: Keps
Thanks Nigel. I too use the Space-Track favourites. Both Nova and SatPC32 allow you to rename the satellites so they appear on your computer with their common names in whatever form you want. What I wish, is that software writers would standardize on a way they identify satellites in their application databases. Some use the name and some use the international designator. Using the unique number seems to me to be the way to go. Enough of this Oscar 7, AO-07, AO-7, or 06236 stuff for importing KEPS into applications. Its 06236. And you should be allowed to show it with the name you want. 73, Alan VE4YZ EN19kv AMSAT LM 2352 http://www.wincube.ca -Original Message- From: amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org [mailto:amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org] On Behalf Of Nigel Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF Sent: August 4, 2009 12:00 PM To: Amsat-BB Subject: [amsat-bb] Keps For those of you that are desparate to know, here's my complete Space-Track favourites keps file.
