Well, you're using rsGetElementAt_uchar(inp,x_,y_), but what is "inp"?

Also, can you show the code near

sc_ebab->forEach_ccl_initlabel(LAlloc); // call 1
sc_ebab->forEach_ccl_initlabel(RAlloc); // call 2

? Thank you

[android-developers] Re: Sticky behaviour of Renderscript / Filterscript kernels

2016-07-08 Thread Alberto Marchetti
There can be a chance that, if the kernel has been written to return always
a constant, modifying the contents of the kernel does not let RenderScript
invalidate the cache (the code, being translated to bitcode, gets highly
optimized, so a constant is always a constant and, if the code that comes
earlier makes no changes to the "outer world", it can be just stripped out).
Can you post the exact code you were using, without returning 0?

[android-developers] Receiving a UDP stream over cellular network

2016-04-26 Thread Jose Alberto
Hello,

We need to receive a UDP stream sent from a UAV on an Android phone. It has
been working great over Wi-fi but now we have problems receiving it over
4G. (We don't get any traffic or we get only 1 packet)
I have read that operators use NAT and firewall, making it difficult to
establish UDP traffic.
How do other apps like Skype, google voice, etc. solve this?
Should we encapsulate the UDP traffic in some other protocol?
Thank you

Best regards,
Jose

[android-developers] Using if/else on a json parsing to display markers on a map android

2013-04-29 Thread Alberto Gallegos
i have a question, i have 2 json files, the first one is for categories and
the second is to generate markers and put them in the map, the first screen
of my app show the categories on a listview, and when i click one of the
categories it should display the markers according to the category selected
on the map, I have no problem displaying the map or reading json

Example json categories

{ "categories":[ { "id":"01",
>
"categoria":"Restaurante" }
>
] }
>

Example json places

{ "places":[ { "id":"01", "lat":"20.583566571214778",
> "long":"-100.37047419121245", "dist":"100m", "star":"1", "icon":"03",
> "name":"Restaurante San Pedro", "cat":"Restaurante", "sched":"9:00 -
> 23:00", "text":"Una gran seleccion de platillos para su deleite." } ] }
>

The problem, is that it won’t display the markers, I am using an if to
compare that the category selected is the same of any category business in
places json, and if it’s the same it display the marker, I use a toast to
see the result and It’s the same, I don’t know why it won’t execute the if
sentence instead of else

[android-developers] Re: Problem with getSystemService in a thread

2013-04-22 Thread Carlos Alberto Castaño García
You must send Activity's context to thread and do:

context.getSystemService(...);

So works!.

[android-developers] Problems with TTS on Samsung Galaxy S3

2013-04-02 Thread Alberto Soler Giner

I'am developing an app for android that uses TTS.

I've created a splash screen where i check if TTS engine is installed and
in case that is not installed, it goes to Google Play to download it.

@Overrideprotected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);...
Intent checkIntent = new Intent();
checkIntent.setAction(TextToSpeech.Engine.ACTION_CHECK_TTS_DATA);
startActivityForResult(checkIntent,
MY_DATA_CHECK_CODE);...}@Overrideprotected void onActivityResult(int
requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {...
if (requestCode== PersonalTextToSpeech.MY_DATA_CHECK_CODE){
if (resultCode== TextToSpeech.Engine.CHECK_VOICE_DATA_PASS)
{
mTts = new TextToSpeech(context, this);
}else
{
Intent installIntent = new Intent();

installIntent.setAction(TextToSpeech.Engine.ACTION_INSTALL_TTS_DATA);
context.startActivity(installIntent);
}} }

It was working fine in Samsung devices with 2.2 and 2.3.x OS. It goes to
Google Play if needed, but now I've tried with a Samsung Galaxy S3 (with
4.1.1), and it has 2 TTS installed by default (Samsung and Google), so i
get a dialog asking to select one.

[image: Select TTS]

If the user selects Samsung it works perfect, but if the user selects
Google, it goes to Settings --> Language and input --> Text-to-speech
output --> Google Text-to-speech Engine --> Settings --> Install Voice Data
and i get this: [image: TTS Languages installed]

So, I have 3 questions/problems:

1- Is there any way to force programatically to use Samsung TTS without
asking?

2- My device is from Spain, but if i change the language to English, this
one is not available in my Google list of TTS languages, and i can't find a
way to add it (see screenshot #2).

3- If I change the language to spanish, this language is supposed to be
installed in my device (see screenshot #2), but for some reason TTS
resultCode is LANG_NOT_SUPPORTED (-2).

In fact, right now while i write this, I've just found something weird.

[image: TTS Settings]

If you choose Samsung, it will use Samsung TTS or Google TTS according to
what you have selected in: Settings --> Language and input -->
Text-to-speech output.

So, even if you select SamsungTTS, you could be using Google TTS, but if
you select Google TTS directly (see Screenshot #1) it will fail.

Can someone explain me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.

[android-developers] Using MonkeyRunner to test apps on several emulators

2012-05-20 Thread Alberto Giannetto
Hi there,

I am writing a set of scripts that drive an app on several emulators
simultaneously. My main script spawns several threads, each of which runs
an instance of MonkeyRunner and I am using a Monkey script to interact with
the app and using a loop calling repeatedly

device.getProperty('am.current.comp.class')

to identify the class that originates the current activity. This is to
react differently by performing different actions depending on the activity
being displayed.
This seems to work reasonably well for one emulator, but the moment I have
two or more emulators running at the same time, the call to
device.getProperty('am.current.comp.class') seems to get stuck on a class
that displayed an earlier activity.
Any idea why that might be? Note that I am connecting to the correct
emulator by using

device = MonkeyRunner.waitForConnection(deviceId=emulatorName)

where emulatorName starts off tipically at 'emulator-5554'.

Alternatively, is there a more reliable way to achieve this with a sort of
monitoring app that sits in the emulator and, somehow (not sure how),
communicates with the driving script?

Many thanks,
Alberto

[android-developers] CameraPreview Invisible does not work

2012-05-10 Thread Alberto Seco
Hello!

I'm developing an AR application, that need the camera preview, but I draw
the content of the camera in a texture. In this way, I set invisible the
view that contains the camera preview, and it works well in Galaxy SII
(2.3.4), and Nexus S(4.0.4), but in Galaxy Nexus (4.0.4), it does not work,
because after starting the preview I set invisible the view.

Here is the code of my function to start the preview camera, that belongs
to a SurfaceView:
public void startPreviewCamera(){
if (camera != null)
{
try {
camera.addCallbackBuffer(buffer);//
camera.setPreviewCallbackWithBuffer(this);
camera.setPreviewDisplay(mHolder);
}
catch(Exception e){
Log.d("viewer", "[startPreviewCamera. Exception: " +
e.getMessage());
}

post(new Runnable(){
public void run(){
setVisibility(VISIBLE);
camera.startPreview();
setVisibility(INVISIBLE);
}
});
bPreviewRunning = true;
}
else
{
Log.d("vrviewer", "startPreviewCamera. camera == null");

}
}

Anyone knows the reason of the different behaviour?

Thanks in advance

[android-developers] FrameLayout with GLSurfaceView, VideoView and SurfaceView

2012-03-04 Thread Alberto
Hello,

I'm newbie developing Android applications, and I have started a
projected alredy started.
The project has 3 views: one view is a VideoView (public class
VRVideoPlayerSensaciones extends VideoView
implements MediaPlayer.OnErrorListener, OnPreparedListener), other
GLSurfaceView (public class VRView extends GLSurfaceView), and the
last one a surfaceview to do the preview image from de camera (public
class VRCameraPreview extends SurfaceView implements
SurfaceHolder.Callback, Camera.PreviewCallback,
Camera.AutoFocusCallback) . All theses views are added to a
framelayout.
My problem is that the first time I execute the application, all the
views they work properly. The surface for VRCameraPreview is in the
back, the GLSurfaceView to represent openGL scene, and the last one
the videoview (VRVideoPlayerSensaciones ) is in the top of the layout.
But after starting another activity, for instance, to send and e-mail,
with the activity resume, all the views doesn't respect the z-order
from the beginning, and the top view, is the preview frame
(VRCameraPreview), and the last one VideoView
(VRVideoPlayerSensaciones).

Do you if there is a way to respect the original zorder of these
views?

All the vies are builded at runtime, here you can see the code:
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {

mView = new VRView(getApplication());
mView.init(false, sDemo, bUseCamera);

if(bUseCamera)
mCamPreview = new VRCameraPreview(getApplication(),
this);
frame = new FrameLayout(this.getApplicationContext());

// videoview to play video
m_VideoPlayerSensaciones = new
VRVideoPlayerSensaciones(getApplication());
m_VideoPlayerSensaciones.Init(frame); //, 250, 80, 320, 240);
frame.addView(m_VideoPlayerSensaciones);

frame.addView(mView);
if(bUseCamera)
frame.addView(mCamPreview);

setContentView(frame);
}

I have tried to use bringToFront from the view, to use AddContentView
from the main activity2, and bringChildToFront from FrameLayout, but
nothing work properly.

Thank you in advance and sorry by my poor English

[android-developers] Problem using IBinder accross two services

2012-03-04 Thread Alberto Andreotti
Hi,

I'm doing something really simple. I have two services A, and B.
Both started with startService. The steps are as follows,

1)First service A calls startService to create service B.
2)Then service B calls bindService to bind to service A.
3)Once service B is bound to A, it calls a method in A through a
IBinder interface that looks like registerCallback(interfaceB).
4)Then service A receives the registerCallback call through IBinder.
The method is executed. So far so good. The problem is that interfaceB
is always null no matter what I do.

I have defined the aidl for InterfaceB as with typical Activity/
Service communication. But no matter what I do, I always get a null
reference.
Any idea on what could be wrong?.

Alberto.

[android-developers] How to display log?

2011-07-04 Thread Alberto González
Hi,

I have a Google Nexus S. Using this guide:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-nexus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/48675-how-compile-nexus-s-kernel-source.html

When I compile kernel I added some LOGD to cpp files. But when I do
"adb logcat" I don't see it in console.

I'm triying to enable smart card feature of Google Nexus S modifying
this sources:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/d5fc35a9f16aa467/dec4843abd73d9e9?lnk=gst&q=secure+element+diff%27s#dec4843abd73d9e9

I think that when I re-compile kernel, the process doesnt clean old
code and shows me the old code.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

[android-developers] Re: Making SmartCard feature available in Google Nexus S

2011-05-03 Thread Alberto González
Hi,

I'm back to ask a little questions about nfc.

I have a NFC tag reader and Google Nexus S. I want to create an app
for Google Nexus S that emulates a nfc tag.

1) Where I could find example code in java? Because there isn't no
info about this.

I think it could be similar to:
-Creating the nfc tag to emulate (give him a value)
-Activating emulation of nfc tag
-Wait for a NFC tag reader signal (NFC tag reader sends a message
telling to the phone, msg received?)
-Desactivating emulation of nfc tag

My NFC reader is CPR40.30-USB (More info:
http://www.toptunniste.fi/topshop/product_details.php?p=264&c=76).

2) Should I create new functions to use it and create a new SDK? Did
you know any tutorial to modify SDK and create other functions? Or
should I create it in NDK using native code?

3) The steps to enable Google Nexus S Smart Card functionality will
be:

-Unlock the boot loader
-Root Google Nexus S
-Create the modified rom (with the diff you posted in
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/d5fc35a9f16aa467/dec4843abd73d9e9%3Flnk%3Dgst%26q%3Dsecure%2Belement%2Bdiff%2527s%23dec4843abd73d9e9
).
-Load the new rom.
-Install the app

4) Do you know when all nfc funcionality will be available in the
official SDK?

Thanks!

[android-developers] Making SmartCard feature available in Google Nexus S

2011-04-26 Thread Alberto González
Hi all,

I undestand that smartcard feature is not available for developers.

I readed in this website that is possible to available it:
http://www.nearfieldcommunicationsworld.com/2011/02/13/35913/uncovered-the-hidden-nfc-potential-of-the-google-nexus-s-and-the-nokia-c7/

The clues that I get to make it available is:
"Download the source (actually from CyanogenMod 7 to have the full
build environment for the new Nexus S), make the appropriate changes
to the code, recompile everything and put it back into the phone and
it works — Nexus S supports card emulation and SWP!"

Also I need to root it... I know..

The question is: are there anybody who could provide more info about
this?

Thanks in advantage

[android-developers] Android Market Licensing: Now Circumvented!

2010-08-24 Thread Alberto
Looks like the word is spreading on how to circumvent the Google
Licensing Verification Library:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/08/23/exclusive-report-googles-android-market-license-verification-easily-circumvented-will-not-stop-pirates/

The concern here is that this could be done easily via script/
automated tool such that implementing the licensing code would be more
work for the developer than for some cracker patching your app to
remove it. What does everyone think of this?

[android-developers] Re: Published app not showing up on HTC Evo or Droid Incredible

Hi Jerry,

No, I am still waiting to hear from someone at Google. I ended up
turning off copy protection for my app and I saw sales go up as a
result but it's still not showing up from my HTC Evo which is
frustrating. The Evo has sold very well this past weekend and I can't

2010-06-06 Thread Alberto
No, neither are running Froyo. The Evo I just picked up on Friday when
it came out and haven't messed with the OS. Reading other threads here
it seems most developers have given up on using copy protection
altogether which is what I'm planning.

It would be nice if someone from Google would address this and provide
more info on the state of the feature or just remove it altogether to
avoid the developer confusion and time spent researching.

[android-developers] Published app not showing up on HTC Evo or Droid Incredible

2010-06-04 Thread Alberto
Hello, I recently published our app to the marketplace and enabled
copy protection. The app shows up when browsing the market on the
Motorola Droid and others but does not appear when browsing with
either the HTC Evo or Droid Incredible.

Is this due to the copy protection? I'd like to keep my app copy
protected but would like to make it available to customers of these
two devices. Is this a bug or expected behavior and what are my
options?

Sure you can use something like:

Camera mCamera = Camera.open();
Camera.Parameters params = mCamera.getParameters();
ArrayList focusModes = params.getSupportedFocusModes();
ArrayList flashModes = params.getSupportedFlashModes();

Take care.

[android-developers] Re: GPS without gps signal

2010-03-18 Thread Matias Alberto de la Vega
As Mike said, you will be able to use GPS even if you have no mobile
signal or wifi connectivity, since GPS has it's own satellites, you
can get coordenates as long as you have GPS friendly environment, some
tips: you MUST be able to see the sky, no tall buildings around is
better, and the bigger piece of sky you can see, the better GPS will
work, but I think you may not have problems with that if you are going
to be in the mountains. Take care.

Harry you mean using a HashMap or an ArrayList with the 5000 words

crazy programming it.In my opinion the best approach is a SQLite

[android-developers] Re: Activity lifecycle problem on Nexus One - onStop not called

2010-03-04 Thread Matias Alberto de la Vega
Zuli, onStop() is called when your Activity is no longer visible, this
may happen if a new activity is created (full screen mode) and is
positioned in front of yours, also it may be caused because another
Activity is resumed and brought to front (also full screen) and in the
last case onStop() is called when your Activity is about to be
destroyed (prior to onDestroy). After onPause() is called there are
two options, onRestart() is called to restart your Activity or
onDestroy() is called to kill your activity. Hope this helped. Bye

[android-developers] Re: List fils on SD card

2010-03-03 Thread Matias Alberto de la Vega
Some files, even if they are in the sdcard, are not accessible, for
instance, try using adb shell to acces a file or directory which owner
is not 'sdcard_rw'. If you list a directory content with 'ls -l' you
can see that even in sdcard, some files belong to owners like
'app_xxx' which is the UID related to the application that created
that file, each application in Android runs in its own Linux process
and also has a unique user ID related. I may be wrong since I'm not an
experienced android developer, but I know a litle about Linux and
Unix, and I can tell you, this OSs won't let unauthorized users to
access files or directories which they don't have permission to.
To clarify all this topic of Androids security architecture I would
recomend reading this section in developer.android.com:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/security/security.html

[android-developers] Re: Delete files from Phone memory(Internal)

2010-03-03 Thread Matias Alberto de la Vega
Also, considering Androids security architecture, keep in mind that
the files generated by each application are only accessible to that
application only, at least for default. That said, you are probably
not going to be able, by default, to delete or modify files which were
not created by your application, unless you give some permission. As
Google says, "An application's process is a secure sandbox. It can't
disrupt other applications, except by explicitly declaring the
permissions it needs for additional capabilities not provided by the
basic sandbox."

[android-developers] Re: Android AudioRecord errors

2010-03-03 Thread Matias Alberto de la Vega
Dimitry, if I'm not wrong, Android currently only supports AMR_NB for
encoding+decoding, PCM is only supported for decoding so far. And the
file encapsulating this type encoding should be 3GPP (audio/3gp is the
MIME type which you may need). You can find more information about
MediaRecorder in developer.android.com, take care!

[android-developers] Re: why I can't see google's nexus one from eclipse

2010-02-27 Thread Matias Alberto de la Vega
You can try connecting the phone with USB Debugging disabled (don't
mount your sdcard as a removable media from the Nexus One option
either), and then once the phone is connected you enable USB Debugging
in Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging. Sometimes my
Eclipse IDE doesn't recognize my Nexus One on Windows 7 Ultimate
(32bits) but following that procedure fixs the problem. Good luck!

[android-developers] Using Gmail content provider

2010-01-21 Thread Alberto
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any information on accessing the
Gmail content provider. It doesn't seem to be officially supported in
the API but it looks like people are able to do this regardless. See
the SlideScreen app which notifies you of new e-mail and even shows
you info (sender, title).

http://gizmodo.com/5453321/slidescreen-android-app-replaces-homescreen-with-beautiful-information?autoplay=true

It would be great to know how this is accomplished, for example we
could create a home screen widget that shows you your last few e-
mails, etc.

[android-developers] Re: ATTENTION ANDROID TEAM: Take back control of Android.

2010-01-19 Thread Alberto
I'm not alone when it comes to the updating issue, check this article
out "Android’s Next Challange? iTunes | Linux Magazine - http://goo.gl/gPzw";

However as Dianne explained yesterday there's not much Google can do
about this, since only manufacturers can release the updates for the
phones, after that, getting it from manufacturers to users is
relatively simple, so until the day comes that users can update the
phones on their own, like we do with PCs or iPhones there's not much
Google can do.

[android-developers] ATTENTION ANDROID TEAM: Take back control of Android.

2010-01-18 Thread Alberto
Dianne so the Nexus One gets the updates directly from Google after
HTC builds it? Or is there a special partnership between them that
allows Google to update it without HTC? Oh I see it now, the store is
very important.

That's kind of the solution to my problem, if the store becomes
successful enough that most people buy their Android phones directly
from Google, then, most phones would always have the latest version
since Google updates them, it's brilliant. Of course, now there's only
one phone on one carrier, but I could see this working when there are
a handful of phones on all carriers. However, not everybody can/wants
to shell out 200 bucks for a high-end smartphone, I wonder if we'll
see a low-end (0<50$ with contract) smartphone sold through the store,
that'd be something.

[android-developers] Re: ATTENTION ANDROID TEAM: Take back control of Android.

2010-01-18 Thread Alberto
Exactly, some carriers won't go through the trouble of doing OTA
updates, your Android experience would vary depending on what carrier
you're. Also when I talk about fragmentation, I'm not just talking
about apps compatibility, but also the user experience is very
different from 1.6 to 2.1, some people might hate or love Android
depending on what version they're using.

Dianne: I understand the issue with manufacturers and drivers, but
even if manufacturers have to prepare the updates for each handsets,
wouldn't be possible for Google to distribute those updates through
their own channels instead of going the carriers' way, for example,
correct me if I'm wrong in any of this:

1. Google releases the source code
2. Manufacturers customizes it for their handsets (drivers, etc)
3. They send it back to Google
4. Google updates most Android phones through their own channel at the
same time, very quickly most phones are running the latest version

I know this is oversimplifying it a lot, and in the real world it
doesn't work like this, but I think I'm onto something, if the updates
are left to the carriers some phones will get the updates and others
won't, maybe that's something you guys can live with.

With all that said, even if there's nothing Google can do about the
updates, a companion desktop application for Android would help keep
the platform together, kind of like the lowest common denominator that
every "Google Experience" phone can plug into.

[android-developers] ATTENTION ANDROID TEAM: Take back control of Android.

2010-01-17 Thread Alberto
UPDATE: At first this was going to be just a call to fix the updating
process, but I've realized is not just the updates Google needs to
take control of.

Now is the time to address the fragmentation issue that's starting to
plague the platform, before there are hundred of handsets and the
whole thing spins out of control. I believe we've seen enough evidence
that the updating process through the carriers doesn't work, many
phones are left behind and the whole thing is a mess, today we're
already talking about the next update (2.5 Froyo?) while there are
phones out there stuck on 1.5, the fragmentation is only going to get
worse as we move on.

Imagine when 3.0 gets here, and we have hundreds of handsets with 1.5,
1.6, 2.1, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0 some with Sense UI, MotoBLUR, etc. It's going
to be hell for developers and even more confusing for consumers,
driving everybody away from the platform. You guys need to take
control of this at least for the Google Experience phones. I'm not
sure if Google updating the handsets directly would bring legal issues
with the carriers/manufacturers, if it would, please enlighten me.

So how do we fix this? I'm pretty sure you guys have already thought
about this and I wouldn't be surprised if a solution was coming soon,
since it''s such an obvious problem. However, here's my two cents, the
solution is very simple, a desktop application for syncing/updating/
media playback/android market/amazon mp3, lets call it Android HQ or
Android Home for the sake of argument.

The updates would be available to consumers as soon as they're
released, instead of months, years, or never depending on carriers.
This way most users would've the latest version as well as the
developers would have the latest SDK, developers would be able to take
advantage of the new APIs each updates bring and innovate faster,
instead of spending time supporting older versions.

Android HQ would also address the next two biggest problems with the
platform, they're: media ecosystem and media syncing/backing. Also,
the Android Market badly needs a desktop client.

The fragmentation issue is the biggest obstacle the platform is facing
today and it will most likely decide its success, I've sensed a couple
of times that Google stance on these issues is to let manufactures/
carriers make the decisions on a phone to phone basis (multi-touch
anyone?) but that won't work, it'll eventually slow the momentum we
have now and kill the platform (WinMo?) Google needs to have a more
hands-on approach to Android if it wants it succeed.

Anyway, the guys/gals in the Android Team want the platform to succeed
as much as me, I'm sure they've given this a lot of thought, and a
solution is probably on the works.

[android-developers] Re: Please help me find documentation on actions for the manifest file

2009-12-23 Thread Alberto
I'm adding to this thread because I too was looking at using the Gmail
content provider. I understand it's not documented as part of the API
(and I think it should be) but that hasn't stopped popular apps like
SMS Popup from using and building apps on the undocumented SMS API for
example.

Of course, I haven't been able to get the GMail content provider to
work, every time I try to get a cursor I get back null with code like
this:

Cursor mailCursor = context.getContentResolver().query(Uri.parse
("content://gmail-ls/messages/myownem...@gmail.com/"), (new String[]
{"_id", "fromAddress", "subject"}), null, null, null);

Has anyone been able to get a cursor from the Gmail provider? Any help
would be appreciated as there are a few of us looking to try this.

Thanks, that clears things up. I guess I was somehow lucky that this

[android-developers] Alarm Wake Lock and Services

2009-12-18 Thread Alberto
Hello, I have a question about alarms used with services with regards
to wake locks. The documentation explains the behavior using
BroadcastReceivers, a wakelock is held during onReceive(), but doesn't
describe the behavior for alarms starting services with the RTC_WAKEUP
flag. What is the behavior in this case?

I have an app implementing this, an alarm is created with the
RTC_WAKEUP flag that starts a service. The service onCreate() then
starts a thread to do some network activity. It seems to work just
fine but I just want to make sure that I don't need to explicity hold
a wakelock myself.

I'll have to give this a try. My point for Nathan is that if a dev
phone is indeed his only device and plans to use as his normal phone
he won't be able to buy or install any paid apps on the phone to
either evaluate or for personal use. That makes it less capable as a
normal phone that's been rooted as there is no workaround as far as I
know.

One thing to keep in mind which may not be obvious unless you do some
searching online. With a Dev Phone 1 for example, you can browse the
marketplace download free apps but you CANNOT view or buy paid apps
with a developer phone. If this is your only device and are thinking
of developing apps for the marketplace to sell, how do you see what
others are selling? You don't! That's a big negative for the dev
phones in my opinion.

[android-developers] Notification bar stuck after disable keyguard

2009-11-12 Thread Alberto
I am working on a lock screen application and am disabling the
keyguard using the following code snippet which I call from a service
on receiving the ACTION_SCREEN_OFF broadcast:

KeyguardManager keyguardManager =  KeyguardManager)getSystemService
(KEYGUARD_SERVICE);
KeyguardLock keyguardLock = keyguardManager.newKeyguardLock
(getPackageName());
keyguardLock.disableKeyguard();

This seems to work fine, but when I return to the home screen the
notification bar does not respond to touch/drag events. It's stuck and
I can't drag it down until I hit the Home button.

Has anyone seen this behavior? As far as I know there is no way to
disable the dragging of the notification bar programatically. Perhaps
something I'm doing is triggering a bug? Any ideas?

[android-developers] Re: 30 Days of Android Applications

2009-06-02 Thread Luis Alberto Pérez García

Something embedding layouts inside other layouts, I mean... for example
this:

Simple list, with main options: add, remove, clear.

the view: the list, and in the bottom an EditText to introduce text, and
a button that adds that text to the list. List must scroll while
EditText and button shouldn't.

for removing elements... just tapping on them or a long tap...

I would like to see this because i'm doing this example myself to learn
and i'm having problem with the views :(

[android-developers] Re: Getting Android Market data

2009-06-02 Thread Luis Alberto Pérez García

If you can access de market from your own code, there'll be no problem
in showing only the permission changes in one single message for all the
apps which are going to upgrade. The user could aprove or deny them.

Eeven a list of checkboxes would be more usable than the way it's
implemented now.

Or at least, this is how I see it :P

[android-developers] Re: Is "Idea" protected by copyright?

2009-06-02 Thread Luis Alberto Pérez García

I think "idea" and "app" are quite different. I think you can only
register and "idea" using a patent (and even with no prototype in the
states :S). See, for example, the Apple patent on multitouch devices.

It's really anoying as patents were born to protect people who had the
ideas but not the money to build them and nowadays, as registering a
patent is show expensive, it only helps big companies to ban competence
from smaller ones :P

[android-developers] Re: Is it legal to customize and publish the built-in applications?

2009-06-02 Thread Luis Alberto Pérez García

It depends on the license. Just find out what license is android on and
then, have a look at the license. I know you can do that on LGPL for
instance, but I think Android is not LGPL. MIT license rings a bell but
not sure...

By the way, I would like more people (I have not enough experience yet)
to improve android included apps rather than making new ones (for
example, I'll prefer people to add improvements to the sms app included
with android than having some many different apps for managing

Is there anyone else working/thinking about improving the included apps?

[android-developers] Begginer Questions

2009-06-01 Thread Luis Alberto Pérez García

Maybe I'll be stoned but... seen a lot of examples but seen none
clarifying this:

Talking about the realtionship between classes and layouts... is any
layout related with any class? one, more than one, is there no relation
at all? layouts are just like "resources" used from the class you prefer
or from many of them?

layouts may be "embedded" into another layouts for making "complex" UIs?

I think an example makes it easy. Let's see we are trying to make a
simple application that manages a list of strings associating any string
with a color. I'll have an "element" which will be an object containing
one string and one color and then, I'll have a list containing elements.
When making the UI, let's say you want to have a lists showing the
elements and a text field with a button and a color picker (for adding a
new element to the list).

What's de idea on android? Having a layout for element (showing the
color and the string as you want) and another layout for the list (I
mean, a ListView containing the layout you generate for showing
elements) is the best choice? will you a class for managing everything?
or will you have different classes for controlling different layouts?

Syrely it's a question no-to-be-here but I don't know where to ask about
this. The examples I've found where too simple or too complicated (by
now I hope :D).

Thanks,
Luis.

[android-developers] Error on creating new XML from eclipse

2009-06-01 Thread Luis Alberto Pérez García

Hi all,

Just a few days working on Android, but... I don't see this to be
"normal" (well, the Dalvik isn't but that's another subject... xD)

when i try to create a new XML file (for a layout) from eclipse, using
the android plugin, it shows up a window saying "Problem Opening Wizard
- The selected wizard could not be started", and the error comes to
show:

"The selected wizard could not be started.
  Plug-in com.android.ide.eclipse.adt was unable to load class
com.android.ide.eclipse.editors.wizards.NewXmlFileWizard.
  com.android.ide.eclipse.editors.wizards.NewXmlFileWizard"

Ok, I see the error is something missing (or failing) in the plugin...
¿any help?

thanks,
Luis.

PD: I'm working with sdk 1.5r2 on eclipse 3.4.2

I see the point but credits?

I've just started developing on android (so, I consider a power user
too) but I don't think credits are necessary here.

I haven't seen any other repository but the Android Market itself, is it
possible? because this can be solved with an "Android Developer
Repository" or something similar, no need for prices, just power users
marking stars... quite "profit" for apps on development.

[android-developers] Duplicated text when using .append in widgets

2009-05-02 Thread Alberto M. Scattolo

Good morning everybody!

I'm pretty new to Android so I'm facing some problems :)
I'm using a TextView widget to show a log, just some text.
The log content is stored on an SQLite database that my app creates
and when a new line is added to the databse I use textview.append("my
last line") to add it. The problems is that when I add a line, it also
adds a copy of the text that was already displayed. Quite strange!
An example:
first line is "One", if i add a new line with "Two", it prints: "One
\nOne\nTwo". If i add "Three" it prints "One\nOne\nTwo\nOne\nOne\nTwo
\nThree".
Can anybody help me to solve this?

Huge thanks in advance!
Bests,

[android-developers] Mobile Developers Research Project asking for Android's opinion, by Carnegie mellon University

2008-12-18 Thread alberto

Hi guys, we're doing a research project on the mobile ecosystem
 in the Mobility Research Center at Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley.
Our main goal in our current study is to understand the decision-
making process followed by mobile applications developers/start-ups.
We are particularly interested in how they decide upon platform(s),
device(s), carrier(s), and market, as well as the relative importance
of technology and business factors.

Our research process includes a formal survey, a series of interviews,
and a public wiki. In the fast moving mobile world Android is a news
full of promise and your experience should be taken into account in
pur research.
So we would like you to complete our SURVEY at
http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=1108623

We think that it will take about 15-20 minutes to complete the survey
and will close be Jan. the 10th
We will make the results public on our wiki, as well as through public
presentations.
It would be GREAT if you could pass along this message and this link
to them.
We want to follow up with some people in more detail. If you would
have about 30 minutes for an informal interview, please let us know.

We've just started a wiki on this topic and encourage you to visit,
contribute, and let others know about it. It's at
http://mobiledevelopers.pbwiki.com/

Thanks for your help, and best wishes for the holidays and for 2009.

[android-developers] manage files

2008-12-10 Thread alberto

Hello.
I would like to know if there is possible to use txt or xml files that
I put in the assets folder.
I mean, I´m integrating a program into android, this program needs to
use some files, so I can put those files in the assets folder, but
now, I don´t know how to pass the path of those files. I guess I can
pass an InputStream, but I would like to pass the root path of the
assets folder cause there will be a lot of files inside.

Thank you for your help.

[android-developers] Re: jchat4android 1.2 released!

2008-10-29 Thread alberto

Hi. I'm having problems with the visibility in jChat by using the
android emulator. I can connect 2 instances of android through the
jChat application to the JADE platform, but I can not be able to see
that those instances are online in the jChat. They always appear as
offline. I don't know if there is a problem with the JADE-Leap or
maybe I have to set some variable in the emulator in order to enable
the communications of the emulator devices.
Additional Information I tried to change the telephone number of the
devices, and add them in the contact list of each device, but they
just appear as offline in the jChat screen of the emulator, even if I
can see that both of them are in the JADE platform.
