Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
Why would you consider that suspicious? Half of our five star ratings are without a comment. I consider that VERY suspicious. Out of my almost 2000 5-star ratings, at least 95% have a comment to go with it. Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
Well, each app is a different world. For example, no one younger than 18 will ever buy my app because you need to have a car (maybe 16 in some countries).. If you publish a game maybe you get much more comments because younger users are more used to write stuff and leave their opinions in the Internet. I was not right with my 10% prediction.. it is more close to 40%. What I actually meant with 10% was that only 10% of users who download an app do leave a rate. And from that percentage about 40% leave a comment.. El miércoles, 30 de enero de 2013 10:43:30 UTC+1, Héctor Júdez escribió: Thanks, I've taken screenshots from Google cache. That´s a good idea. My app is a Personal Finance app. The exact same demographics as yours. I literally cannot remember the last time somebody left a rating but not a comment. Is it even possible to do that? That said, last weekend, I had about 10 ratings appear out of the blue without a comment -- but then those disappeared a few hours later. This seems to happen every few months. Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
Of course, an app that was rated 4.5 now is 4.4... another that was rated 4.0 now is 3.8 Two other apps are not even published but rates keep on decreasing. Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
At first I thought old rates were disappearing because I did not update my main app during 2012 and lots of users uninstall it. However, since I am only losing 5 star rates this doesn´t make sense. It also doesn´t make sense because it all started at once last week and I am losing rates from apps that have been unpublished for more than 6 months already. I can still read comments from January 2010 in my developer console so they are getting rid of uncommented rates. Rates drop from all the apps at the same time... I press F5 and I can see them dropping, first one app, then the second one, then the third... and it stops for some hours. After Christmas I completely redisigned my main app and I have been pushing new updates every week. Users were really happy and I was receiving a lot of 5 star rates at once after every update.. maybe this seemed suspicious to Google and trigger some type of algorithm into my account.. Who knows... I don´t really know the percentage but I would say that only 10% or less of the people who rate an app actually write a comment (at least under the context of my apps). Also every rate / comment is associated with a Google account.. so they can really know who did rate the app. -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group. Can anyone in USA check the transport secction and let me know if you can find the app Car Finder AR somewhere between the first 50 positions.. I actually have another theory.. My app is in a really high position in some countries (#4 in Spain) but I am not selling a lot.. actually no more than 7 or 8 per day worldwide. I have the feeling that Google just wants to get rid of my app because it is not giving them any profit at all. I know this might sound stupid but I still cannot find a reasonable explanation for this issue. Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
Ok, I see some ratings disappear too. The difference is they are all 1 star ratings that are vanishing. Good riddance to them! Before Google implemented the G+ identity thing with ratings and reviews, there were services (and probably still are) that you could pay to have high ratings added to the payee's app and 1 star ratings posted to their competition. I've personally seen this happen (the 1 star type) on my major app. Now, Google is going back to fix this problem and as a result, bogus ratings and reviews are being removed from the system. I can't imagine how 5 star ratings would be removed. I understand, but if he's getting only five star ratings removed without comments, and not other ratings (without comments) removed. It's pretty common for 'buy a rating' services register fake accounts, give ratings to apps, (perhaps leave some comment with a random string of text). Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
They don't really have to have a reason: they can just claim it violates their terms of service. Part of the Google Play terms of service state your app can't interfere with their company. If they didn't like your app they could just claim so. However, Google removing your app because it doesn't make them money doesn't make sense at all... Re: [android-developers] All my apps are losing 5 star rates at a really high speed. I've lost more than 200 during this weekend.
It might be that Google is consolidating ratings that were done by one person a number of times. It might also be that the ones determined to be fraudulent are being removed. It might also be possible that whatever algorithm is doing the work has a bug and is flagging actual, real reviews and ratings. We all know that's probably impossible though. I've seen two ratings disappear out of over 25,000. You can't let things like this bother you. Rates are not fraudulent and I assume they are getting rid of old rates. My app has been published for 2 1/2 years and have 2500+ ratings also. I haven't lost any that I can see. Knock on wood. That said, it sometimes happens that I get an extra batch of phantom' ratings which are removed a few days later.
