RE: [ARIE-L] Ariel down at OXG
We're not down here at Texas AM/Galveston; but we had been down for several days a few weeks back. Is this a trend? I see at least one other library is down as reported so far. [ARIE-L] Unable to send color documents in Ariel
Forwarded by the list manager == Greetings, Our Ariel workstation was infected with a virus which has been resolved. Except for this problem - since then we have been unable to send color or grayscale documents. We have no problem with sending black/white scans. We use a Bookeye scanner and import the documents into Ariel (4.1.1). Any suggestions for a fix?? Thanks much. This is the error we get when we try to import the document: File could not be converted to TIF format. Err #-16. Re: [ARIE-L] Unable to send color documents in Ariel
Ms. Burnight; It sounds as if either your scanning software or Ariel itself was corrupted by the virus event. My best recommendation after any virus infection (as opposed to notice that one was caught in an email) is to assume that your PC is hosed and do a clean installation of the OS and Ariel. In the end this usually takes less time overall than attempting to be certain everything was caught, etc. Matthew Taylor Systems Engineer Montgomery College Office of Information Technology 15400 Calhoun Drive, Suite 310 Rockville, MD 20855 240.567.3100 (Office) 240.567.3008 (Fax) matthew.tay...@montgomerycollege.edu www.montgomerycollege.edu On Apr 19, 2010, at 12:21 PM, ARIE-L wrote: Forwarded by the list manager == Greetings, Our Ariel workstation was infected with a virus which has been resolved. Re: [ARIE-L] Unable to send color documents in Ariel
I don't know how to fix it but I know that if I receive an article in grayscale, it takes about 30 minutes for the piece to download and it jams up ariel for a long time. Different issue I guess but i don't like to get grayscale for that reason. [ARIE-L] Emailing pdfs via Ariel
Fellow Arielers, We currently have our Ariel set up to convert incoming TIFF files into PDF files that we are then able to send to our patrons (Patron Delivery) as an attachment to their campus email address (@missouriwestern.edu). What we are not able to do is send that same PDF to any other email address they might use (gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc.). Although we prefer to send to campus email addresses, Im perplexed as to why we are not able to send to other email domains. Does anyone know why this is the case, or how I can change it? Can I adjust my settings to allow for this? Thanks in advance for any assistance! Re: [ARIE-L] Emailing pdfs via Ariel
Hi Jackie, That is perplexing. Are you trying to put more than one email address in the patron address book? Is your Ariel set up so the patron delivery happens automatically? I'm not sure but I think the patron address book only has room for one email per person. And if you use automatic delivery, it would go right to the campus email. Have you right-clicking on the delivered item and sending it to a different patron? Sometimes we will send a PDF to our library email account and then forward it on to an other email account. Another option would be to add a second entry in the patron address book with the alternate email for the patron but if you do a lot of ILL traffic that would be inconvenient. RE: [ARIE-L] Emailing pdfs via Ariel
Your problem sounds very familiar. Currently we have the same issue: while email sent to campus addresses via Ariel sends without problems, all emails sent to off campus domains fail to send successfully. Below is a response I received from IT at previous institution regarding the solution they achieved. If I remember right, our problem had to do with our email antivirus software. It was tagging the outgoing emails as scanned and they were getting hung up in the outgoing queue. We disabled the tagging, and it starting working. This was also causing problems with other auto-generated emails being sent off-campus. Although IT here has not yet fixed the problem for us, perhaps that information will help you locate a fix - and if you come up with a different solution, please share with the list. Good luck! Hotmail tends to eat PDFs and not let you or the receiver know there was a problem. There is no way I would even attempt sending to a hotmail account. I think we've tested my gmail address and been able to send it along.
