Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
Karthik, . Anjali.. Anjali.. in the charanam has shades of Mandu... and this has also been told by SPB in a programme (forget about me, as I am just a drop in the ocean of carnatic music) on Kairali called "Symphony" which comes every saturday night at 9:00PM.He told the strength of Rahman lies in the usage of this Raga and that's why he told both the songs in this file (Duet) are based on Raga Mandu..." Do you need more authoritative statement on this. It's good that you are allowing me to express my views because there's some truth in it which you only are denying and people like Akil and Mr. Ahmed have given some thought to it. I am sure people are going to realize one day or the other and truth obviously cannot be suppressed. Naan onnu Vidwan innu sollikkaleye... though my knowledge of carnatic music is good, i cannot call myself an expert.. and for your kind information and whatever knowledge I have "margazhi poove..." song is based on Hindolam RAGA (in hindustani it is called Malkouns). Why did he need to use that tune when other music directors have been using this RAGA in different style (i mean in Hindustani and Carnatic) and created beautiful tunes.. RE: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
the whole thing about suprabhatham is going a long way ... i believe that ARR has used that piece to bring the mood of earlymorning in to the song .. and if u want to know what is a copy, you listen to the songs/bgm of malayalam movie "valyettan" they have tried to disguise suprabhatham but have failed miserably ... if u listen to that you'll know what is a blatant copy ... here in maargazhi poove, he had to use that tune .. its early morning and may be even the director might have asked for that .. it jells well with the situation .. regards ranji -Original Message-From: Pavana Kumar CM [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Thursday, March 31, 2005 9:59 AMTo: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.comSubject: Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!Hi Karthik, I am in the right place. Re: [arr] Vande Matram
Hi bhargava, One way to get the inf is to look through the inlay card of the CD or cassatte. I think that can give more info than any. This was the album produced in 1997 keeping in mind the 50 year celebration of Indian Independance. ARR met his schoolmate Bharat bala ( he is a renowned name in creating public awarness kind of propaganda in the media). So both like minded ppl meet and they went on to make something which makes the listener some feeling of the Indian independance and the struggle to obtain freedom. talking abt the songs it is more clear in the inlay cards and the music itself is self explanatory. I hope i have put some efforts to answer u RAVI On Thu, 31 Mar 2005 02:56:59 +0530, bhargavbhatt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Hi > > can anyone provide me with the details of vande matram album.? > > i need the informaiton in details, if any one plz give. > > ~regards > bhargava > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.574 / Virus Database: 364 - Release Date: 1/29/04 > > > Explore, Experience, Enjoy A.R.Rahman - The Man, The Music, The Magic. > Only at arrahmanfans - The definitive A.R.Rahman e-community. > > Homepage: http://www.arrahmanfans.com > To Subscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To Unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > Yahoo! Mr. Pavana, Read my mail properly... Suprabhatam tune is used probably to bring in the early morning effect... if u see the song, it is picturised in early morning, with the fog and dew all over ARR has used that tune probably to bring in that beautiful mood. It cant be termed as copy... No other music would signify that mod as beautifully as that tune. MR. Karthik was right... [arr] nowrunning.com reviews Bose
http://www.nowrunning.com/musicreviews/musicReview.asp?id=2988 'Bose - The Forgotten Hero' music is Intensely Patriotic Dr. P. V. Vaidyanathan Mar 30 Produced by: Sahara One Motion Pictures Directed by: Shyam Benegal Music: A.R.Rahman Lyrics: Javed Akthar Films on national leaders and on India's freedom struggle have always got a special place in the audience's hearts, and it will be good to see how Bose: The Forgotten Hero unfolds. A.R.Rahman has composed music for all types and all genres of films, but his speciality seems to be the patriotic ones. One has only to think back to the last decade or so, and realise that Rehman, more than anyone else, has been involved with patriotic films and albums. Vande Mataram, Roja, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Lagaan and Swades are just a few of his proud presentations. And now on to Bose, which is an intensively patriotic album, and has a total of 18 numbers, of which 7 are songs and the remaining 11 are various pieces of music called themes. Azaadi is the first number in this album, sung by A. R. Rehman and Western Choir, Chennai. Like most of the other songs in the album, it's a song, which is used to unite the force and inspire confidence and courage into their minds and bodies. The background reverberates to the cries of Jai Hind, Jai Hind. ''Kal Thak Mein tanha tha, par ab hai saath mere lakhon ki dhadkan'', says the patriotic lyrics. It's a battle cry song by the INA, for freedom and Rehman has infused enough strength into the song, in his typical voice, which we heard last in Swades. Kadam Kadam is the next song, which again is the marching song of the INA. Vijay Prakash and Mumbai Film Choir sing this song, the lyrics of which say push the armymen to fearlessly march forward, and disregard their own lives, for the country's sake, sing this song. Delhi is your ultimate aim, says the song, and is set in a format suitable for a marching army. Kadam Kadam eventually became a famous marching song, and is used even now by the armed forces. Ekla Chalo, by Sonu Nigam and Nachiketa Chakravarthy, stars with the Bengali words, Ekla chalo (walk alone), and Sonu Nigam's voice echoes these words in Hindi. The background music is soft and soothing. The lyrics are beautiful and reinforce the feelings that this life is for the country, and even if one dies in the service of the nation, it's no big deal. Sonu uses his mellifluous voice to great effect, to bring out the flavour and sweetness of Bengal, from where Bose hails. Hum Dilli Dilli Jayenge is the next on the list, sung by Mumbai Film Choir. Here too, the background music uses drums, to create the effect of a song sung while marching towards freedom. Hum Dilli Dilli Jayenge was also a cry of the INA in those days. The words speak of the army's full faith in Subash Chandra Bose, and the ever willingness to lay down their lives, at his behest, as the army marches towards the capital, Delhi. Desh Ki Mitti by Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Sriram is a slow melodious number, about the greatness and flavour of the soil of the country, perhaps sung by Subash Chandra Bose, when he is elsewhere. Music is essentially on violins and tabla. The entire song describes the various seasons, the geography, and the other unique aspects of life in India. The song is semi-classical, and Anuradha croons in the background. This is one of those songs like Pankaj Udhas's Chitti Aayi Hai, which will move many an Indian (especially the NRI's) to tears. Zikr, by A. R. Rehman, Rafi, Rakesh and Shankar Ali, is in the format of a Muslim prayer to the mighty Allah, slow and lilting. The song has a tune that touches your heart, and is accompanied by loud drums. The lyrics in Urdu are beautiful, and are a pleasure to hear. As the song alternates between a fast and slow pace, the listener is enthralled. Ghoomparani is the next song, sung by Sanpa Mukherjee and Satyanarayana Mishra. Here too, like the earlier song Ekla Chalo, the song has a liberal sprinkling of Bengali words. The song is slow and is almost in the form of a lullaby. The accompaniments on the flute are beautiful, as the male voice sings in the background. This is followed by an instrumental piece called Durga Pooja. The entire second half of the album is devoted to a variety of themes called Netaji's theme 1 and 2, Afghanistan theme 1 and 2, Hitler's theme, Emilie theme and U boat theme. These are short instrumental pieces, which perhaps are employed in the film, depending on the stage and situation of the film. There is also an orchestral version of the earlier number Kadam Kadam Barhayeja and Desh ki Mitti. The album ends with an orchestra version of the Indian National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The entire album is created for a patriotic, period film, and is totally different from the regular film albums that one hears nowadays. It is always a difficult task to write songs that can cause one's patriotism to sur

Re: [arr] RE: SANGAMAM IS IT - BLATANT COPY....
Mr Aravind, First of all try to control your laughter. Alaipayuthe Kanna.. is different in the sense the whole song is used in full and also jels with the title of the movie. But Margazhi Poove tune is different from that of Suprabhatam... So why he has to mix the Suprabhatam tune to it... He could have used some other tune there... No music director in India has scored composition till now independently including IR. Only the degree of originality varies (probably IR and ARR would be 80-90% and guys like Anu Malik, Anand Milind, Nadeem Shravan etc etc would be 10-20%) All of them have got their own inspirations, own style etc. So it would be wrong to proclaim that Rahman is 100% original. [arr] copied
if anyone has heard dhoom title music, i suppose it may be inspired from one of the Lakeer's song. I cant recall the words, but it is the tune where the heroine of the film is dancing with so many girls and playing the basketball. ARR played the music so so fast but the dhoom- the copied music was rather slower than ARR's tune. I am not sure, i admit. I have heard that song for only once. About copying, i dont want to say anything abt rahman, he is best, he need not to copy anything. God plays music by his hands...so soulful.. ~regards, bhargava Message: 17 Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 02:08:38 - From: "A.M.Aravind" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Anu copied from Mr. Romeo Hi Bharat, That is a very good find... The flute piece by Anu Malik is exactly the same as that of ARR's Thannerai piece. While I was listening to Rabba, I found that the 2nd BGM (shenai) also ressembles the Shenai BGM from Tauba Tauba (Vande Mataram). In both the cases, Anu malik has taken the same notes and increased the speed. Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
there is one thing u have to LEARN!!!..the difference between lifted/copy and inspired..for ur information all composition of ilayaraja and other MDs in india are based on raags..so not 100% of thier tunes are original..everything is based on a template tune... its how they package them that shows thier originality...as such, accusing ARR of lifting a tune and that too for a similarity of 1 to 3 words is UTTERLY ATROCIOUS...Many of ilayaraajas classical numbers have a lot of inspiration from popular carnatic keerthanas...and may i know why that is not a lift...if u still claim its a lift...then u should say all the MDs in india including ilayaraaja has been lifting tunes from keerthanas... this topic --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Pavana Kumar CM <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi, > > This song is a direct lift by ARR from some > popular carnatic tamil song. [arr] Ab Tak 56 Deserves
hi frnds, i might have angered many of u. we being ARR fans, i believe, appreciate any sincere work. Ab Tak 56 is a brilliant piece of work . Dont just look at Salim-Suleimaan's background score, consider Nana's towering performance, Shmit Amin's thoughtful direction. i have not seen Meenaxi, might be the score is unparalled as the songs are. i know Salim-Suleimaan have made some unprecedented comments on our Maestro, they have also lost their steam by giving a mediocre score to Kaal. As one of our frnd has rightly said in his previous mails "The lonely elephant walks majestically, and the bunch of dogs bark." Salim-Suleimaan have also joined the brigade of ARR haters along with Ismail Durbar&co. But when it comes to the background score of Ab Tak 56, their work really stands out. waiting for ur comments and feedback. Manu __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! [arr] Suprabhatam
hi all i am a silent observer in this group and die hard fan of ARR. Good to listen to all those powerful discussion. Last i heard jugalbandi between karthik and pavana regarding the ragaas. Pavana proves his point very well by giving an example of May madham. karthik do you hav anything to say about this? I admit that i dont have any knowledge about the raagas but i can very well say that the tune in may madham had been inspired by suprabhatam. Peace. Play safe Akil Suvarna __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: [arr] What does Rahman's music mean to you?
Hi all, Rahman's music is everything for me...I have been just a listener in this group till now...But I think now i shud be active and this is a good topic to start with... All throught the turmoils and good happenings of my life ARR has been with me..He is equal to GOD for me just because he makes me happy at all times.. There is something heavenly in his music..And moreover I like the human being in him...He is so down to earth and i have never seen him criticizing any one..He always stands on the earth... Nothing affects his humbleness and his simplicity and yet he delivers good music all times..There are so many songs of his which a non arr fan wud not have heard..they might have heard it once and left it..But as we all know for the first time wen u hear HIS songs ,we dont feel gr8 attachment to that but it hooks you once you give more ears to it and then it will remain forever.. he has something hevenly in his voice too.Vellaipookkal, tauba tauba, only you,yeh jo des hai tera and all reveals that heavenliness. he is just great... No other MD can deliver such a wide variety of music..be it IR or any one for that matter... --- Dasun Abeysekera <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Hi Guys, > > I perfectly understand what you are saying. RE: [arr] Will Benegal use all songs without cut in BOSE
My guess is that Benegal will not be using the songs in full. Except maybe "Kadam kadam" or "Hum Dilli Dilli Jaayenge". I know most of us wouldn't be happy to see the songs fading in and out in parts. But that's the kind of film Bose is. I totally trust Benegal's judgement on that. I'm just glad that he decided to have a soundtrack released with this film! And what a gem it's turned out to be. Right now I'm falling in love with the subtle piano work in "Des ki mitti". Note the keys accompanying Sonu from 3:54 to 4:02. Sometimes its these simple touches that makes a composition so brilliant. Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
Hi, For your kind information I have learnt carnatic classical music and don't try to teach me. First of all let me tell you one thing... Even Anjali Anjali... and Kathale en Kathale song from Duet also is based on Mandu only. Then how come those songs are not similar to Sowkkiyama song... Please analyze completely before you talk non-sense.. This is forum where one can express his views and if somebody has copied we need to agree... nobody can deny it because it is so evident.. I don't know whether ARR sat whole night to get inspired or not... but did he not copy the tune of "kausalya supraja rama..." from Suprabhatam in "Margazhi Poove..." from movie "May madham"... So why he has to copy that.. Because it is popular... In the same way he would have copied/lifted these tunes also. [arr] ARR has nothing to prove
How could you miss Iruvar, Narumugaye from Iruvar is one of his all time best classical. To me Rahman has got nothing to prove. He has done everything, but he continues to explore music..thatz what amazes me listening to each and every album of his...He continues to explore new frontiers..which other MD dared to touch. he has never allowed himself to settle on anything.. I have no reservations in saying that He has done more experimentations than what all other Music composers in india have done so far (that includes IR, but lets not take away the credits from them too.., but no one has covered such a vast spectrum as Rahman has done). You just need a sensitive ear to listen to the intricacies and improvisations that he does in each and every album. >From a person who rarely listen to music, i have now grown up to a state where i have started to have liking for all kinds and classes of music. Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
Hi Anand, Though RAGA doesn't belong to anybody, it is how U use the RAGA matters. Each classical legend as his own unique style of using the RAGAs. So if Saint Thiagaraja can use a particular raga in a style then it doesn't necessarily mean that other Muttuswamy Dixitar has to use the RAGA in the same way. Basically as somebody pointed out it is just a template. So somebody uses the same template then it is a LIFT. Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
Many a time I have come across ppl saying ARR has copied or copies when asked where they will not b able to recollect which song. I dont know how to appreciate them with, bcos without knowledge of music though they are able to remeber ragaas. Pavan seems to be much like that. even when karthik has clarified so well, If he cannot agree it is his individual potential problem of not trying to understand. But rather try to be on limelight by making these kind of comments. pavan be clear just by one line or a bit U cannot declare it as a copy. If somebody say that the beats of Anbe from kadhal desam is a copy of Enigma it can be agreed (not sure if it was a loop that was been used by Enigma troop and ARR as well. But just hardly one sentence I think according to u one must reinvent raagas. Now what is that u want to prove, ARR doesnt match IR for SB. It might be a total folly to compare. If u think IR is unmatched go listen to some of the old classics in Kannada by GK Venkatesh who is also the guru for IR. U may have to take back thewords. Bcos I still feel that IR was not able to match GKV interms of his blend in harmony or melody at those ages. though IR got his own adv with technology later on. >>>(which I am not > sure..) is exactly the same. You aren't sure but still will shoot the arrow...GreatI know from where you actually belong...but leave it...you are always welcome to argue (as long as some thing is yielded at the end.) >>>"Suriyan vanthu vaa enum pothu..." it is DITTO DITTO > COPY OF "Vaanathil meedu mayil aada kanden...". That is the face of the raaga...How do you say that one should sing Mandu...tell me?...First of all...do you know what is a raaga...to put it simple...in lay mans term...its a Tune templateYou need to improvise on that but should not go out of the boundary of the template...I think you are imagining that ARR..wantedly sat thru all the night listening to MS Subbulakshmi's keerthanaa and then tried to fit it exactly some where in the middle of a song which obviously is in Mandu raaga from the beginning...Sema logic paa. "En veettu thottathil " the pallavi is AGMARK Senchurutti RaagamThe reason why it was in its AGMARK form is and similar to "naadha vindu " is because, the heroine in the film is Brahmin and when she sings for the first time, its some how should go along with her nativity and hence the song also follows senchurutti "Naadha vindhu"...here is where ARR genius sparkles..he immediately changes it into Hamsadhwani in the interlued and shankara bharanam in the Charanam...indicating that it is a deviation in the heroine's mind and he dreams about her love Don't just here what some Anti - Arr has to say to you and come here and vomit...do some Home work first before accusingFIRST THINGBE SURE of what you say. Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT.... - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
Hi Pavana, I thought that music based on classical are meant to be inspired, not copied. Is anyone creating new classical music anymore? then it should not be called classical. You have to expand on what you mean by "heavily inspired". Please be more specific. And we should also remember that if someone sings a Saint Thyagaraja composition it doe'nt mean that he has copied the song. In a similar vein, if different lyrics are sung based on a classical composition even if it exactly resembles the original will not be a copy in my books. opinions might vary. - Original Message - From: Pavana Kumar CM To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, March 30, 2005 2:15 PM Subject: Re: [arr] Sangamam IS IT - Blatant Copy of Sowkkiyama song!!!
