Hi,

Also, unlike most other MD's ARR is not just the composer. But he is a
very good sequencer or eqv. to a sound engineer. This helps a lot
making your touch more furnished. Talent and devotion are no doubt,
the most important factors, which I feel many of others just lack.

Thanks a million, brothers, for taking time out to explain the meaning of this beautiful verse. True, this piece of poetry captivates you irrespective of your caste or religion - such is the power of God and of music. True religion is one which transcendes all boundaries created by man and unites all. I feel blessed on just hearing this song.
 
I still am not clear about the exact meaning of the chant 'Hasb-e-Rabi Jallallah' and the words 'maafi-qalbi'. Can you kindly translate them?
Jawad, you mention that you're not in the position to describe the meanings of 'Subhan', 'Adnan' and 'Manan'. I am very curious now to know why.
 
Also one more thing - when ARR sings 'Ya Qayum', there is a background chorus singing some verse, which I couldnt catch. Can you tell me what that is and the meaning?

hi,

This comparison of marathi movie and a chinese movie is completely
un-economical. It is indeed a great idea to have ARR's music for a
marathi movie, but it is far from being economical. Marathi film
industry, after a long time, is seeing the days of prosper. For a long
time it was in doom. 

Also, in marathi there are many great MD's like Pt. Hridaynath
Mangeshkar, Shridhar Phadke, Shrinivas Khale, etc. Sandip
Khare/Shailesh Ranade and doing great.

Though needless to say ARR is simply great.

There is a big possibility of this...coz few days back Ashutosh Gowarkar said in a interview given to marathi newspaper Sakal when he was in Pune...that he'll love to make a marathi film...budget will be 2 crores...but he said that he's not sure that he'll gain his money back if he makes a marathi film...so lets hope for the best

Well, almost 70% of Marathi films are made for classes. AR has pretty
bigger than enough room to discover new kinds of sound in Marathi,
where music is all about experimenting!! (Those who know Pt. Bheemsen
Joshi,
Pt. Vasant Rao Deshpande,
Hridayanath Mangeshkar,
Ronu Mujumdar,
Anil Mohile,
Aadinath,
Shridhar Phadake, Sudhir Phadake, and Lata Didi, will agree with me.)

"Kalvaneen Kadhali" is a different movie altogether starring Surya and 
Nayanthara. Its directed by a newcomer and has music by Yuvan Shankar 
Raja. 

On a different note, Parthiban in last week's Vikatan had said that he 
would definitely revive Yelelo very soon. He is acting in 6 movies at 
one-go to make some quick money.

And here is my take on this ...

It is about "Sound" . I think himself and his teammate i.e. H.Sridhar
have mastered the art of recording.  When I play his cd's to some of
my friends who own and record professionally here in the US, this is
what they say... "Dude ! that is very clean .. fantastic recording".

I think recording in itself is an art that needs a lot of time
invested and really good understanding on how it works.  Most of the 
MD's in India probably don't invest time/money in that.  I guess one
would have to have love towards it to have so much dedication.  And
keep in mind, a majority of his songs involve recording ancient Indian
instruments (mridangam, thavil etc) and you cannot find a manual to
know about "placing microphones" to these instruments which itself is
another deep subject.  Using these instruments is a challenge and
bringing excellent recordings out of them is something not many people
achieve, no matter how expensive their equipment is.

Even though writing music is spiritual, you have to be a master in the
subject of recording to achieve the works that we have been
priviledged to ..

I thank the person who has uploaded the introduction for the spirit of 
unity concerts. There is another file for the title music, that ends 
at the end of this program which has been uploaded long back. 

Since somebody mentioned that this program is still on air in DD, I 
reckon that it can be recorded clearly and sharply in its 
completeness. So, anybody who has it can upload onto the files. I 
think these are the rarest collections of his works, rather than the 
ones that are coming up, as they are easily accessible now.

Why do there seem to be promo problems with each and every Rahman movie 
of late, when in fact, Rahman is scoring incredible music?  A lot of 
injustice towards ARR's music

We all know that Yash Raj has acquired the distribution rights of Amir 
Khan´s now postponed to August release , ´Mangal Pandey´ (as we had 
told you two days back) , but that is not the end of the story . 

According to our distribution sources , ´Mangal Pandey´ /´The Rising´ 
is in trouble as Yash Raj want to pay the actual price (for the 
territory) only in Bombay and for the rest of India they want to 
release the high priced film on commision basis , something that 
happens only with small banners/projects . 

It may come as a shock for many of Amir´s well wishers/fans in the 
media but it is the truth to the best of our knowledge .

Could you recommend some recent (i.e, 90s onwards) films that have
good music by these music directors? I am hoping most of them will be
available on musicindiaonline. Pt Hridaynath Mangeshkar is familiar to
me in a film music setting. But I've always associated the others with
classical music. I would be eager to know how they have adapted their
styles to suit film music.

find out if it was rehman who composed this theme music? Even andi 
malai is associated with rehman at times. Pls comment.

I think MD Anand Modak is the ARR of marathi music. He makes very beautiful melodies and always experimenting...so try searching for his movie named "Mukta"...all the songs are gr888...very melodious & has very different instrumental arrangements from usual marathi music...yet they sound so much "marathi"...superb album...but I think u'll not find it online or not even a CD...so try searching for a cessette. His other films also got some very good songs...movies like "Kalat Nakalat", "Chaukat Raja", but Its very sad that u'll not find even a cessettes of these movies in the market...u'll have to rent a VCD and then only u can listen to it...But Its worth I'll say...I paid Rs.235 for a VCD of "Kalat Nakalat" only for one song...but It's one of my alltime fevorite songs...so I didnt care abt the price...

Sridhar has worked with other music directors also ocassionally. He
has worked on a lot of non ARR films for the DTS mixing. He has worked
with almost all the big music maestros in India. Not only India, he
has worked with a few international artist also.

And the title of BF will be annonunced within a day or two. But the
audio of BF is releasing only in May. S.J.Suryah himself confirmed
that the audio of BF will be releasing only in May.

A R Rahman to be awarded

Indore, April. 8 (PTI): Noted music composer A R Rahman, will be
presented with the prestigious Lata Mangeshkar Award for 2004-05 on
April 24.

Instituted by the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh,
the award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation and is
given every year since 1984 in honour of `Nightingale of India' Lata
Mangeshkar, who was born here.

"Rahman will also play his selected compositions after the award
ceremony", Divisional Commissioner Ashok Das, told reporters.

The three-day function will witness a light music competition,
programmes by noted playback singers Sudesh Bhonsle and Vinod Rathod
besides Rahman's show, Das added.
