New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS) It's pouring offers for Sukhwinder Singh in
both Bollywood and Hollywood. But instead of giving himself a pat on
the back and taking all the credit, the playback singer says he owes
his success to ace composer A.R. Rahman."Rahman has been a catalyst in
my success because when everyone had turned me down and ridiculed my
song 'Thaiyan thaiyan', he was the only one to believe in me. With few
changes in lyrics, he gave me my first big success in the form of
'Chaiyyan chaiyyan'," Sukhwinder told IANS in an interview.

Sukhwinder, who started his Bollywood stint with the 1986 film
"Karma", witnessed an upswing in his career with the hugely popular
song "Chaiyyan chaiyyan" in the 1998 film "Dil Se".

He later went on to sing hits like "Main ramta jogi" ("Taal"),
"Kambakht ishq" ("Pyar Tune Kya Kiya"), "Chak de" ("Chak De! India"),
"Dil haara" (Tashan), "Dard-e-disco" (Om Shanti Om) and the recent hit
"Haule haule" from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

The singer, whose voice has a rustic feel, has also gone international.

"I have sung a Kutchi folk song for a Steven Spielberg film starring
Denzel Washington, because they wanted authentic Indian music," said
Sukhwinder.

"Earlier too, my song 'Chaiyyan chaiyyan' was used for the film
'Inside Man'. Recently I sang a song 'Jai ho' for Hollywood film
'Slumdog Millionaire' , where again the music is by Rahman," he added.

While Sukhwinder has lent his powerful voice to many Hindi film
actors, his songs picturised on superstar Shah Rukh Khan are sure-shot
hits.

"The fact is that many of my songs with other actors have been equally
popular like 'Tu kisna hai' (Kisna), 'Ishq bina' ('Taal'), 'Rut aa
gayee re' ('1947 Earth'), 'Aj mera jee kardaa' ('Monsoon Wedding'),
'Beedi jalai le' (Omkara) and many more.

"But people always remember my songs picturised on Shah Rukh. I think
the reason is that the energy he brings to the screen is amazing.
Since my voice too has a high-energy point, it gels well with Shah
Rukh's personality, " the singer explained.

Sukhwinder also made an appearance on television as one of the judges
for STAR Plus' musical reality show "Star Voice of India 2", but he
found the experience far from pleasing.

"It's better not to comment on my stint as a judge. Things are very
different when scripts in such shows bind you," he said.

So what about the current crop of singers that such shows are churning
out?

"As for the current crop, we do have a few good singers ... they are
promising too, but the system is not really open to newcomers. The
struggle phase is long. So most of the time, good singers don't last
and give up too soon," he said.

Sukhwinder, who has been in the industry for more than two decades
now, has his hands full.

"Billu Barber, 'Ravana', 'Kaminay'... It's difficult to recall names
of all the films I'm doing," said the singer.

If I am not wrong, it was Shubha Mudgal who was supposed to sing
'Ishwar Allah' in 1947 Earth but she wasn't available for some reason.
Looking forward to see their collaboration though.

[arr] [semi-arr] - Prasoon Joshi - All that sells is Bollywood: Prasoon Joshi

2009-01-06 Thread Anil Nair
Private albums don't sell any more. I don't want to be involved with
projects which will not sell. I have been in talks with A R Rahman and
Shubhaji but nothing has come out of them. Right now, all that sells is
Bollywood.

Prasoon Joshi, who has faced flak for his *Ghajini* lyrics, talks to *Rachana
Dubey*

*Hello, any New Year resolutions?
*I'm at my in-laws' place in Kanpur. This year I plan to visit my birthplace
in Almora more often. It's beneficial to keep in touch with one's roots
today.

*You wrote a poem, Is baar nahin, about the Mumbai terror attacks.
*I wrote that poem in five minutes at the airport on the third day of the
attacks. I was flying to Stockholm. That poem calmed my restlessness. People
used it as their own during the candle marches in the city. My writing
served the purpose.

*Okay. Your lyrics for Ghajini have come been criticised vehemently.
*All that matters to me is that I should feel good at the end of the day.
I'm very proud of all my *Ghajini *songs. The film has turned out well. The
songs *Guzarish *and *Aye bachu *are high on the music charts. I do feel I
could have done better.. but never mind.

*But the lyrics lacked the Prasoon Joshi touch.
*This is the first time that I ever wrote lyrics for a movie in which the
songs came as a relief to the action and drama. They lightened the
narrative.

I feel *Ghajini* could have done without one or two of the songs, it
wouldn't have made a difference to the flow of the story. As for the lack of
my touch, I was expecting people to miss it because the film was the sort
that I couldn't write lyrics in chaste Hindi and Urdu.

*Is that why you wrote Hinglish lyrics in Aye bachu?
*If a girl speaks in the Mumbaiyya style, she can't start singing in chaste
Urdu and Hindi. She will dream in the language she speaks. This was my first
attempt at an item number.

*It seemed as if you'd written the lyrics to fit tune which had already been
composed.
*Yes, 90 per cent of the tunes were already created.

*What's happening with your book of poems?
*One-third of the book is ready. I have enough poems to fill the book but I
want to work upon them some more. I'm the chairman of an ad agency.. that's
a full-time job which doesn't leave me much time. I hope to get it
published this year.

*As a writer, do you think the habit of reading is returning?
*I do see people at book shops.. but who knows if the books bought are even
read? People who want to read will buy books even from roadside kabadi
shops. Everything packaged well sells well though.

*You're back with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in Dilli 6.
*It'll be on the shelves in the next two weeks. I think it will be among
the
bestsellers this year.

*You've not gone the private album route after Man ke Manjeere for Shubha
Mudgal?
*Private albums don't sell any more. I don't want to be involved with

[arr] The music of Slumdog Millionaire is a winner for sure

2009-01-06 Thread Vithur
***The music of Slumdog Millionaire is a winner for sure*

When you listen to the soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire, you'll know why
Danny Boyle chose AR Rahman to compose the music for his film. Nobody else
is capable of capturing the spirit of a movie like Rahman does.

The master composer and music director is in his element here. Even in
standard Bollywood fare, Rahman manages to score with his listeners for the
fresh sounds he brings to otherwise cliché proceedings. Here, not only is he
unfettered by the usual requirements of Bollywood, Boyle seems to have
encouraged Rahman to go ahead and experiment as much as he likes. Nowhere
before have we heard this man sound so free and so uninhibited.

Each song tells the story of an uneducated chaiwallah or tea boy, Jamal
Malik, in various phases of his life. Dreams on Fire is a gentle ballad and
Latika's Theme is its instrumental version. This track, which runs through
the love story which is the heart of the movie, works well in binding
together the often disjointed parts of the movie. The sultry Ringa Ringa,
featuring vocals by Alka Yagnik and Ila Arun, is typical Rahman and
successfully fuses traditional and contemporary melodies. Rahman's magic is
most in evidence in the instrumental Mausam & Escape, where he blends the
sounds of the sitar and the guitar and ups the tempo to get a sort of
gangsta' feel to the music.

However, the standout track on the album is Paper Planes, composed and
performed by one of the UK's leading artistes M.I.A. The political
overtones, with gunshots and ringing of cash registers, and the upbeat
reggae-inspired melody make it a winner. M.I.A.'s other contribution on the
album has been to O…Saya, where she collaborates with Rahman on the vocals.
This song is notable for its obviously African influence, with energetic
drumbeats, and the singer's voice is perfect for lending this track the
international edge that it requires.

The only disappointment on the album is Jai Ho. While it's high on optimism
and the music is upbeat, the sound is unfortunately all too familiar to
veteran listeners of Bollywood music. Sukhwinder Singh, as usual, does a
good job with the vocals but one can't take away from the fact that the song
just does not live up to the standards set by the other tracks. Also, one
strange inclusion on the album is the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy track Aaj Ki Raat
from Don, untouched apart from a few additional beats and lyrics. The song
is on for a brief period during the movie and there really wasn't much
reason to include it in the music album. One can only assume it was done
keeping in mind western listeners who just can't get enough of Bollywood
music.

[arr] "I feel really proud to say that 'I know Rahman'" says Sivamani.

2009-01-06 Thread Vithur
Musicians who work with him call him 'Rahman Sir' and technicians in his
studio refer to him as 'Boss' – out of sheer respect and admiration. On his
43rd birthday, Radioandmusic.com spoke to those who have worked with the
homegrown genius and also his composer fans from the industry who have
followed his music.

Rahman has a set of musicians whom he prefers to work with. We know that
Rahman composes at night and that he also owns the best equipped studio that
anybody could ever dream to own. But there is something more interesting
than that – the ability of this man to understand emotions and music so
well.

Needless to say, Sivamani is one such musician who has worked closely with
Rahman and is extremely proud about it, "I started my music career with
Rahman, we played together in a band called 'Roots' – I feel really proud to
say that 'I know Rahman'" says Sivamani.

On Rahman's working style, Sivamani says, "When Rahman is working on music,
he has ideas about which musician should be given the song for
improvisations – I don't know how but he has that knack". We know that
Bollywood has a tendency to follow things or ideas that 'work'. However,
when it comes to music, Rahman has been in the forefront – in setting trends
and experimenting with sounds. "Well, Rahman belives that in music, you
should not follow any rules – just fill the plate the way you like it at
that moment," adds Sivamani.

Often, the maestro captures 'recording takes' of musicians while they are
not even aware or are completely lost – this way, he tries to get the best
of the musician or the singer's creative instincts in their most natural
state. "Even when I would sing some parts with less involvement, or
inadvertently cough during a song, Rahman would still retain and use it at
an appropriate place," recalls singer Mahalaskhmi Iyer, who sang one of her
earliest hits for Rahman in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se. However, it's not just the
songs by Rahman that stand out – his background scores are also equally
good. "Rahman pays equal attention to his background scores as well. Films
like the recent Slumdog Millionaire, Guru or Bombay all had phenomenal
background scores" she says, "I don't see him just as a musican - he's a
magician." Many, who ...
have worked with him, feel that Rahman is a completely different person in
studio. For the outer world he may be an introvert, but those who have seen
him closely say that the man also possesses a good sense of humour – lucky
guys!

Working with Rahman is the biggest achievement any musician can ask for.
Working with a director of his reach also exposes the musician playing with
him to the entire world. Sanjeev Thomas, guitarist of Rainbow Bridge and
someone who often plays for Rahman says, "His reach is unimaginable, if you
are a musician working with Rahman you meet so many musicians, creative and
like minded people from all over the world. Not to forget he is the best
'paymaster' in the industry – most importantly, he knows how to treat and
respect a musician." Rahman can really pump you up to take the best out of
you. Thomas says, "I was supposed to play a guitar solo in Ghajini's 'Aye
Bacchu' – Rahman's brief was simple – he said, 'just make it the most
memorable solo of your life'." He adds, "Mostly, Rahman is quiet, he doesn't
spend too much time directing – but we all know what he wants." Rahman
acknowledges inputs from all, be it lyricists, musicians or technicians.
Besides that, he makes sure that those who have contributed gets their due
credit – something which musicians and technicians really value.

Benny Dayal, who has sang several songs like Tu Meri Dost Hai, Behka, Papu
Can't Dance for Rahman sums it up in a line, "Well, he's pretty chilled
out."

THE COMPOSERS P.O.V

Amit Trivedi, who recently hit it golden with debut film Aamir says, "I have
grown up listening to him and have probably heard all his albums – right
from Roja to Slumdog Millionaire. I have also been following his Tamil and
Malayalam releases closely."

"Most composers either draw refrences or influences from other composers for
sound or song structures. I feel what makes Rahman stands out is that he
starts with a 'blankspace' - no references no influences. He simply follows
what comes naturally - that is what makes him unique" he adds.

Composer and singer Rabbi Shergill says, "I see him as a very mature
musician, composer and a settled human being. Well, one album which I really
liked of Rahman was Swades."

Most likely, we may never be able to figure out 'how' ...

Irrfan Khan, "It's a recognition of your talent and it does well for the market
also, fulifills both purposes."

With a 'golden globe' nomination and many other awards to back the film's
music, 'Slumdog Millionaire' adds another laurel to A R Rahman's already full
kitty this season, as for the run up to the 'oscars', "The oscars -- thats the
big daddy, ans you never kno, so its better that we enjoy the realse of this
music process, the success of the film," added Anil Kapoor.

[arr] At 43, Rahman is a name most singers swear by

2009-01-06 Thread rivjot
New Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS) When he started his career in the early 1990s,
music maestro Alla Rakha Rahman wouldn't have thought his popularity
will skyrocket to such an extent that budding as well as established
musicians alike would swear by his name nearly two decades on.Rahman,
who turned 43 Tuesday, is an inspiration for many. For instance,
acclaimed singer Sukhwinder Singh gives the credit of his success to
the composer.

"Rahman has been a catalyst in my success because when everyone turned
me down and ridiculed my song 'Thaiyan thaiyan', he was the only one
to believe in me. With a few changes in lyrics, he gave me my first
big success in the form of 'Chaiyyan chaiyyan'," Sukhwinder told IANS
in an interview.

With 11 Filmfare Awards to his credit, Rahman has achieved the status
of legend in the lives of upcoming singers who dream to work with the
composer, at least once.

"Rahman can easily be termed as the living legend in Bollywood. He is
one of the few people who made Indian music popular internationally.
It will be a dream come true if I get an opportunity to work with
him," said Abhijeet Sawant, who won the first season of musical
reality show "Indian Idol".

Said Harshit Saxena, runner-up of "Amul Star Voice of India": "Rahman
always does an excellent job. Everybody has a dream to work with him,
and being a great fan of his, I possess the same."

The musician got his first big break in Mani Ratnam's "Roja" and later
Rahman composed for many films in the south. The film was dubbed in
Hindi and the songs like "Dil hai chota sa", came as a whiff of fresh
air for music lovers who wanted more from this musical genius.

Rahman's first full-fledged Bollywood project was Ram Gopal Varma's
hit "Rangeela". Most of the songs, including "Tanha Tanha" and "Hai
Rama" and "Yaaro sun lo Zara", were chartbusters. After that there was
no looking back for him.

Later, Rahman became a name to reckon with through his soulful
compositions in "Dil Se…", "1947 Earth", "Taal", "Lagaan", "Guru",
Rang De Basanti, Jodhaa Akbar and the recently released Ghajini.

Rahman not only won hearts in India, but also made a mark on the
global music scene. In 2001, Andrew Lloyd Webber invited Rahman to
compose music for Broadway musical "Bombay Dreams", which won him
immense international fame. He also composed for the stage adaptation
of J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord Of The Rings" that premiered in Canada in
2006 and in London in 2007.

Winner of numerous prestigious awards, Rahman has recently been
nominated for the Golden Globe Awards for his score in "Slumdog
Millionaire".

So what is in Rahman's music that clicks so well with audiences the
world over?

"Rahman's music spells magic. We actually wait for his albums. You can
see his soul, hard work and dedication in his songs. He never
compromises with his style, which is so distinct," shared Prajakta
Shukre, a finalist of "Indian Idol 1", who is currently singing for
regional films.

Abhijeet Sawant added: "Rahman has never gone with formula music and
is on a different level altogether. A calm and soft individual, he has
a very different vision. His music is never dictated by popular
demand. He always experiments and that is what people like about him."

With his upcoming projects "Delhi-6" and "Blue", Rahman's fans will
have no dearth of good music to hear and hum.

[arr] I owe my success to A.R. Rahman - Sukhwinder Singh

2009-01-06 Thread rivjot
http://www.allbollywood.com/news/2008/1230/377712/ar_rahman.shtml

'Slumdog Millionaire', where again the music is by Rahman," he added.

Rukh's personality," the singer explained.

[arr] Bollywood Arrives at Golden Globes!

2009-01-06 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
Bollywood Arrives at Golden Globes!

MUMBAI: When the Golden Globe Awards unfold at the Beverly Hilton in
Los Angeles on Sunday, the Bollywood presence will be truly top heavy.
Music
maestro A R Rahman is in the running for the Best Original Score
for the internationally acclaimed Danny Boyle film, SlumDog Millionaire
(the film has already won 55 awards within two months of its release in
the USA).
Bollywood will also be represented by Shah Rukh Khan, who has been
pencilled in to present an award (a first at the Golden Globes for an
Indian actor). Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is currently stationed in Los
Angeles for the shooting of his My Name Is Khan, is also a special
invitee at the awards ceremony
.
Rahman, expected to fly to Los Angeles in the wee hours of Wednesday
to be present at the Golden Globes, couldn’t be present at the music
launch function of the film held in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media through a video conference from his Chennai residence,
the music composer got a trifle emotional. “The Golden Globe nomination for my
music and
all the various awards I have received for SlumDog Millionaire
surprised me. I want to win this award for India,” he said.
When his overseas agents called him to say that he had received a Golden Globe
nomination (considered in Hollywood as a prelude to the Oscars), he was
absolutely taken back, Rahman said.
“For a Hindi film I usually work with 193 cues,” he confessed. “In the
case of Slumdog, I have worked with only 17 cues. So I’m all the more
overwhelmed with the response to the music.”

Hi Dear Rahmaniacs,

Here goes a greatest moment for every Rahmaniac at Kodambakkam on Jan 6th at
ARR's home. Thanks a lot to Nazeef who got the appointment( between his busy
schedules) with ARR for celebration.

The Musical Whizkid asked who is designed/ordered this cake?

We fans mentioned Anees(who always deserves to work for ARR as a great fan) and
ARR cut the cake and fed it in his mouth. Everyone sang Happy Birthday when he
cuts the cake.

Venkat is another die hard fan who made a slam book for ARR. All the fans
penned their wishes it. ARR saw the wrapper of the book and asked him where he
got that printed photo(ARR's photo)?

He said it was taken from the internet. ARR got excited and responded casually
with great pleasure. He thanked everyone for their wishes.

One of ARR's associate served Sweet(Gulab Jamoon) to all the fans at
celebration.
This is one of the lovely, wonderful, memorable moment of my life.

ARR is a very
very sweet person to admire. I am really stunning everytime when he talks
casually like a friend in face-to-face meet.

Happy Musical Birthday to all my dear fellow Rahmaniacs.

luving you all,
Sribalaji

[arr] Forbes: A Conversation with Bollywood's A.R.Rahman

2009-01-06 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
A Conversation With Bollywood's A.R. RahmanLauren Streib, 01.06.09, 11:50 AM
EST
The man behind the music for ''Slumdog
Millionaire'' on fame, the effects of the Mumbai terrorist attacks and
changes in Bollywood.
A.R. Rahman

A.R. Rahman, Bollywood's leading composer, is the man behind the music for the
runaway hit Slumdog Millionaire.
Critics have already doused him with award-season honors: The Hollywood
Foreign Press Association, Chicago Film Critics Association, Los
Angeles Film Critics Association, International Press Academy and the
Broadcast Film Critics Association have recognized him.
The composer emerged to prominence after the 1992 film Roja became an instant
success and earned Rahman his first of three National
Film Awards (India's version of the Oscar). Rahman introduced a wide
range of musical influences--from Western pop to electronica--to
Bollywood film scores, redefining contemporary Indian music. He's now
one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with estimated lifetime
sales topping 100 million records.

What do you think will happen to the film industry in Mumbai as a result of the
recent attacks?
I think the basic reaction was anger towards a lot of
things--the security, the government and towards Pakistan. As a result
of all that, there's a kind of madness and probably an urgency for a
solution, which is nice.
I think some of the very high-profile
movies were affected because promotion couldn't be done. In such a
state, you can't go and promote a movie. But it's slowly settling down.
Bombay's almost like New York; people have to get going the next day.
Will it change the nature of films produced?
That's yet to be seen.
What role does religion have in your work?
I'm a Sufi Muslim, I would say. I believe in using the medium to
create a good vibration because art is so important to society. Some
projects I don't do because I feel that it's going to create a bad
vibe. I don't do propaganda films that are anti another religion,
anti-Muslim or anti-Hindu.
How do you decide which projects to accept and which to turn down?
That's a question of instinct, actually. Some things are very
low profile, but if they excite me creatively, I accept them. Sometimes
there are high-profile projects, and you have to do it. We all have
human limitations. It is a painful decision to turn things down. Even
accepting Slumdog Millionaire was a decision that I had to sacrifice another
project.
Is it true that as a musician you don't receive royalties on the sales of your
music?
It is true. It was true. But now things are changing.
Now we're more aware of what music can do and the ways music is used in
certain things. Initially, we just wanted to do music and nothing else.
Now we have the option to talk. The time was coming. There's a time for
everything, and that time came. It so happened that I had to be the
first step.
A film composer, at least until last year, was paid
but not to the level of anything. In the U.S., you do one song and
you're settled for life almost. But I was happy with what I was doing
and what I was getting. The hunger always makes you push to do more
things.
You're a superstar in India, yet you're an unknown in the U.S. Does that bother
you?
I think I can get away, sometimes, with walking in the streets
and not getting noticed. I like that. I want my work to get noticed,
not me. And it's slowly getting there, which is good.
After a
point of time, when you get success and fame, money and everything, the
purpose of life has to be redefined. For me, I think that purpose is to
build bridges. Artists can do that very easily, more than politicians.
I am involved with my foundation in doing projects for fighting
poverty, and I have a music school to teach students here to play
classical music. All these things make me run faster; otherwise I'd get
complacent.

[arr] AR's reach across globe

2009-01-06 Thread Bergin Roy
Guys,

Today one of my colleagues came to me and asked if I. Watch movies. I said yes.
This chinese guy said, I watched a movie with indian actors. I got what he was
talking about and I asked if it was Slumdog millionaire? He said yes, its the
best movie I've ever seen.

I said music is by my favourite composer. Then came the surprise, he said I
know A.R.Rahman. My 1 year old kid loves the music a lot and dances to the
songs. Its a wonderful score he said.

I was flying high when he told this.

See the impact AR has made across the globe, across culture and language. I was
very proud and then he continued, he's been nominated for golden globe
award for best original score. See how much he has followed AR.

Hope AR reads this.

Cheers,
Bergin

[arr] Fox Star Studios to release Slumdog with 200 prints in India

2009-01-06 Thread Vinayakam Murugan
http://www.businessofcinema.com/news.php?newsid=11388

Globally acclaimed movie Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle will
finally hit Indian theatres on 23 January. The film's distributors Fox Star
Studios will release the movie with approximately 200 prints in India.

These 200 prints will comprise the English version and also the Hindi dubbed
version, which has been re-titled as Slumdog Crorepati.

Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh says, "Slumdog Millionaire is an Indian
movie and every Indian must see it, hence we are releasing the movie in two
versions."

Even as the word 'Millionaire' in the film's title has been translated in
Hindi to 'Crorepati' to make it more coherent for Indian market, the word
Slumdog has still been retained. To this Singh says, "Slumdog Millionaire is
ultimately going to be referred to and remembered as 'Slumdog' only, hence
we thought it best to retain the word Slumdog in the film's Hindi title."

Out of the total print count of 200, more prints of the Hindi version
language will be released and distributed in territories as per requirement.
The number of prints will be increased later in accordance to the response
for the movie.

The movie stars Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Dev Patel.

Warm Regards

Re: [arr] Masakalli English Translation

2009-01-06 Thread light4_u
I came to know about pigeon name 'matakkalli' from lyrics only. No it
does not say 'eh masakali fly like matakali'. Lyrics r 'eh masakalli
masakalli udd matakali matakali' its not 'eh masakalli masakalli udd
JESE matakali matakali. Matak means 'pelvic thrust' (latak-matak
chalna). U missed 'Atdise mud'. 'Atdise mud' means turn around with
an attitude (atadi dekhana, giving attitude).

[arr] A.R. Rahman's 43rd birthday a low key affair

2009-01-06 Thread Tamiliniyan
http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/009200901061824.htm

New Delhi (PTI): A.R. Rahman turned 43 on Tuesday as television and FM channels
played special programmes to mark the day but the music maestro said the
celebrations were low key due to Muharram. Speaking at the South India launch
of a mobile phone, Rahman said the day was usual for him and there were not
much celebrations as the Muslims mourn during the month of Muharram.

Many radio and television channels played his hits from films that included
"Roja", "Bombay", "Dil Se", "Rangeela", "Taal", "Lagaan", "Rang De Basanti",
and the more recent "Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa", "Yuvvraj", "Ghajini" and "Slumdog
Millionaire". The last year was an eventful one for Rahman as he earned a
Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score for his music in British
director Danny Boyle's film "Slumdog Millionaire" besides many other
achievements.

"Slumdog Millionaire", however, is not Rahman's first global venture. He had
composed for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Bombay Dreams" and a stage adaptation of
"Lord Of the Rings".

Rahman began 2008 with Ashutosh Gowarikar's "Jodhaa-Akbar" and went on to score
chart topping numbers in films like "Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa", "Yuvvraj",
"Ghajini" and "Slumdog Millionaire".

His latest track "Jiya Se Jiya" is another attempt from the composer to send
out the message of love and peace after his "Vande Mataram". This year Rahman
fans will hear his compositions in "Dilli 6" and "Blue".

[arr] A memorable lovely moments happened on Jan 6th(today evening) at ARR's home

2009-01-06 Thread !--Sri Balaji--!
Hi Dear Rahmaniacs,

Here goes a greatest moment for every Rahmaniac at Kodambakkam on Jan 6th at
ARR's home. Thanks a lot to Nazeef who got the appointment(between his busy
schedules) with ARR for celebration.

ARR is a very very sweet person to admire. I am really stunning everytime when
he talks casually like a friend in face-to-face meet.

Happy Musical Birthday to all my dear fellow Rahmaniacs.

luving you all,
Sribalaji

[arr] A.R. Rahman launches Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

[A.R. Rahman launches Nokia 5800 XpressMusic ]
A.R. Rahman launches Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Padma Iyer [January 6, 2009, 6:01:45 PM]
A.R. Rahman launched the latest Nokia mobile phone in the XpressMusic
series. Rahman has been associated with Nokia for several years now. The
phone which was launched worldwide sometime last year, was launched in
rest of India couple of days back. Today the phone was launched in South
India.

The highlight of this phone is its 'touch' technology combined with all
the features required for a music phone. A.R. Rahman has composed an
entire album 'Connections' for Nokia which is preloaded in this phone
and three other models in the XpressMusic series.

The album has 9 tracks, each with a distinct flavour of India, but with
a global appeal. The video of the song 'Jiya se Jiya' was screened on
the occasion. Rahman has collaborated with Sivamani for this track.
Another song 'Kural', based on the Thirukural for which Rahman has
collaborated with MTV youth icon, singer Blaaze, was played for the
first time. Blaaze was also present at the event. The album includes
some other tracks such as 'Mann Chandre', 'Mylapore Blues' and
'Mosquito'.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. T.S Sridhar, Regional General Manager,
South, Nokia India said that the touch feature of the phone turns 'user
interface' into 'human interface'. This was exactly in tune with Nokia's
motto of 'Connecting People'. He also said that launching the phone in
Chennai was very special as this was the city of a very close friend of
the Nokia family, A.R. Rahman.

The day was even more special as A.R. Rahman celebrates his birthday
today. The music maestro said that the celebrations were low key due to
Moharram. (This is the time of mourning for Muslims all over the world).

Could be due to copyright issues, and T-Series would be the last to
purchase rights for those two songs.

Anyway, Paper Planes being an integral part of the score definitely
deserved to be there.

For hindi ones, i would recommend www.induna.com. They also have a
filter for Rahman works.

They deliver thru DHL express. Very good response by mail and phone
too. I have made 4 orders till now with around 30 cd/dvd and totally
satisfied.

Only downside is no tamil works.

That is surely irritating to me also, for the same reason, but that is
the entire logic of them for putting money on this album - to force

Yogi B sings for 'Endhiran'

IndiaGlitz
 [Tuesday, January 06, 2009]

Singer
Yogi B who has made his presence felt in the Tamil film industry with
some spectacular songs, has been roped in to sing a song for the
mammoth production 'Endhiran' that stars superstar Rajinikanth and
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
A. R. Rahman who is the music director of the film
has confirmed to Indiaglitz that Yogi B has indeed sung a song for the
film. Moreover, he added that the Malaysian singer was in his studio a
while back with regards to Endhiran. A. R. Rahman was working for the
Aamir Khan starrer 'Ghajini' at that time. Though Yogi B was there was
Endhiran, his services were used for a background score 'Run' that
features in 'Ghajini'.
Everything about 'Endhiran' is shrouded with
complete secrecy as is the case with every Shankar film. 'Endhiran'
produced by Sun Pictures will be ready for release in 2010.

It isn't ARR . It's Karthik's voice in the song, and Karthik is

I think and believe it should be ARR. As He appears in the screen.

May be additional voices are Karthik. and pls confirm if Karthik is the singer
for this song once again.
