Actually, this mail reminds me of my colleague's kid, who shouted on me wen i was playing Omana penne ( from vtv). His words were I Hate this song... My first reaction was - i turned red in anger. but the more i thought about it, the more i understood the reason. He is a small kid. His tastes arent developed enough to catch the melody or emotions behind the song... It made me remember another incidence which happened around 16 years ago. With child like enthusiasm, i made to my grand mother to hear the song Chandralekha- (Thiruda-Thiruda/ Chor-Chor). .. and as I was enjoying the song, she said.. Its more of a noise. good for children. I was really disappointed but now i understand the reason behind it. It was not of her genre(Obvsly) . But as I wanted to share so, I wanted her to love the song too... funny! Though both the songs are Example of CLASS in themselves but they were rejected by some people. and the simple logic behind it is that its not of their taste or genre... Does it make the songs bad??? The songs continue to inspire so many souls. For me, ARR is a source of energy which keeps emitting through music. Sometimes(most of the times) it matches with our frequency and we love that bit of energy(music) . But sometimes it could be out of our bandwidth. Not for us... but some other soul may catch it and find it absolute bliss. The whole logic is: if u love it, enjoy it and if it doesnt inspire you, its not for u... but for somebody else around. Let him enjoy... Musicians are like sea divers. @ every dive, sometimes they find pears, sometimes other sea shells and stuff... Enjoy the art... Dnt try to force things and life would be a bliss... and Taimur Bhai, I really wonder If u actually read the blog post while listening to the song... I wonder how come u escaped the magic of Flute, interludes and other tiny miny beauties of the song... ~ Love Music Love Life Neetika To: arrahmanfans@ yahoogroups. com From: gomtesh.upadhye@ gmail.com Date: Mon, 10 May 2010 15:17:43 +0530 Subject: Re: [arr] Khili re... an Ultimate melody... Re: [arr] What is in a Music Review?
Superbly put up...Agree with you completely as all depends on personal taste preferences Your friend, Ajay Nair. From: myown_niche myown_ni...@yahoo.co.in To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Mon, 3 May, 2010 10:55:17 AM Subject: [arr] What is in a Music Review? There have been instances where many said they hated Sivaji, loved Azhagiya Tamizh Magan, Jai ho not his best, Blue didn't have soul, Raavan is too technical and all that. An many had various other opinions too. These all indicate just one thing. Appreciating music is personal. Very personal. For me, I never claim which one is best from ARR. Such a discussion is very much futile. For a person with a western music inclination, he would like scores which falls into that template. He/she may not be able to appreciate a soundtrack like Vandicholai Chinnarasu or a Kizhakku Cheemayile. So if one loves to listen to some earthy Indian songs, one may get disappointed if he/she hears a soundtrack such as Boys. So my conclusion is just this. The palette of ARR's music is so vast, which could be captured only if it's a person who knows all, ok may be many, varieties an nuances of music. Else, I'm just a commoner who will dislike a different tune and an excellent song, if it doesn't fall into the category of what I want to hear. I'm just a listener. A pretty ordinary listener. The only thing I can do is I can play with words to sound the review excellent. I can't listen to Roja and Raavan with similar state of mind and so there's no point in comparing them. But, the results are always enriching for me when I hear some thing unusual from every album of his, that makes me keep interested in music to know about different genres, instruments, singing styles etc in the world of music. So a music review by a person, just represents his/her taste and his state of mind when he/she listens to the track. And I just don't care about what he/she writes. And nobody should care about my take too. - Emmanuel

Hi Naveen, Nice elaborate comparison...Please modify it a bit a send it to passionforcinema.comI am sure a lot of people will appreciate your skills and judgement maybe more who will disagree...But as you have made this effort; do post it there as it deserves a much larger audience apart from only our Rahman friends. Poetic Visual screenplay.Underpla yed simbu and adorable Trisha. A must watch. I'll give VTV - 4/5. Chaitanya and Samantha in Telugu was a different experience. Movie very-very fresh even after watching VTV. Chai has improved drastically from Josh and I feel he should have chosen this as his first script. Samantha was a revelation. Hardwork she has done earlier in her career shows. This earns 4.5 on 5. Just because it's a super remarkable performance by new performers. Simbhu in a never before seen role. Turning point in his career. All of them know what he is capable off, and it took years for him to show his 'class'. Simbhu - please move forward in this 'direction' carved by Gautham 'Vasudev' Menon. Trisha, personal favorite of mine, has been disappointing me a lot these days with no good roles. But with VTV, she has bounced back big time and what an amazing come back. Trisha's thirst for good meaty role started with Abhiyum Naanum but finally its Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya that does her the 'Maya'. Akkineni Clan's Top Heir, Naga Chaitanya is boyish and cute. Much matured performance. he is sure to make his family proud. Chaitanya, Way to go buddy. Samantha Ruth Prabhu - Amazing performance and what a role for a debutant. Acting super. Expressions nice - 'Keka'. An award winning performance. Hope she chooses the right scripts like YMC in the future. Apart from Simbhu and Trisha (Naga Chaitanya and Samantha), Producer-Actor Ganesh - What a performance! . In Telugu, the role played by Krishnudu is not that comical as the Tamil one played by Ganesh. You made us smile and laugh even during sad and intense moments. Ganesh Sir scores 100%. Sameera does a cameo of sorts. Promo for Gautham's movie with Sameera. :) Chinmayi 's dubbing is classy. She has already gone places as a singer. Now with dubbing am sure she will go places too. Awesome Narration by Gautham Menon. AR Rahman sir's BGM - biggest plus to this poetic visual screenplay. Songs add to the visual story teling - meaning as the story moves. Picturisation of songs could have been better except Aaromale Song, which bought in shivers. Lack of Choreography is seen in the movie, was not required at most but where ever. Lyricist Thamarai's Poems are adorable. Kaithapuram Sir and Kalyani Menon Maam's Lyrics causes Shivers. Stunts Silva's only stunt sizzles, Rajeevan shows class in Art Direction as usual, Editing, i guess, was the most difficult task in the movie. Though there were loads of blurry cuts, I think this was unavoidable or may be the 'candid style' that GM wanted. Editing scores. I should have mentioned her name in the initial stages of this review - Nalini Sriram, the costume designer - Hats off! Never seen Trisha so beautiful and Simbhu so simple and elegant. The Next Big name in this review i missed needs a separate paragraph. Manoj Paramahamsa, the cinematographer. Stunning Visuals, he spells Magic on screen. Be it Alapuzzha, Chennai, Hyderabad, New York, Goa - visuals are mind blowing. Use of Steadicam's in Hosanna song was Super and gave the right feel to it. He is the Next Big Person in Cinematography for India from the South. Vinnaithandi varuvaayaa = I will cross the skies to watch this movie. Ye Maya chesave = nannu (andarni) maayam chesindi. Imtiaz Ali The emotional composer tried to hide his hurt as well as he could and said, “I haven’t been approached for Rock Star. I’ve heard that Rahman is doing it. Am I hurt about not being part of Imtiaz’s new film? I’ve been too busy to think about it. I’m sure we’ll work together again in the future.” Although Imtiaz remained unavailable for comment it is no secret that the filmmaker is known to let his head and not his heart rule when it comes to deciding his cast and crew. For instance, despite creating magic with Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met he signed Deepika Padukone for Love Aaj Kal although Kareena, incidentally the film’s producer Saif Ali Khan’s lady-love, was very keen to be part of the film. [arr] Heartfelt
This is going to be long but would like to keep it sweet. For past many days i have been seeing a lot of aggression and dis containment towards anybody or anything that has been anti Rahman(music his movies) or to some extent a personal opinion of the respective personality who has said so. Rahman and his music has been a very strong influence in our lives and whomsoever who has followed it, but let us be gracious enough to accept that maybe for X,Y,Z it may not have been or it will never be.In the same length breadth another individual(singer, composer, director) in their respective field would have defenitely touched upon their lives. Music can never be judged to the appreciation that an Oscaror Golden Globe will have its final say, but how effective that has been to make you feel enlightened and transformed in that particular vision the creator wanted to make us believe and the satisfaction we want to derive. Any Music Director and his respective contribution to music should not be looked down in this forum, as we must appreciate that he made it on his own...Maybe that person is not dignity personified like a la Shankar Mahadevan, but when has the craft superceded the creator. Its as debatable as Shane Warne being a womaniser, but we love him not being so but for his achievements on the cricket field. A ghazal singer for whatever wrong reasons insecurity has made those comments: but there are innumerable people in this universe who listen to his songs for his voice, and feel the pain and relate to his lyrics everyday night. We are a fortunate lot that we have followed a person who has shown us a path that forgiveness and striving for the best should be our motto and it is us who should raise our bar not as good music listeners, but to be as better human beings. In his own golden words that he chose hate over love, we should be embaraseed that we have been criminal and corrupt in our thoughts for others irrespective of the person(media, reviwers, press, fellowmates etc etc) who has been affirmative on our thoughts many times but sometimes negative. Let us try to be better human beings and understand each others pain, rather than defending our own views and always sticking to it and being adamant. Woof..quite a long mail and not sweet too...hopefully someone will have the patience to read it in the first place as it is not on a blog and neither a review. But you guys here have been an extremely important part of my life everyday. Gopal, Vithur, Chord, Pavan, Jahanzeb, Arvind, Moin Ul Haque, Shah Nawas, A R Rajib and a lot and all of fellow community members. Re: [arr] Music and Romance amidst Action/Violence: Ghajini
Rawat, I disagree with your below mentioned point of the Kaise Mujhe Track coming in 2 parts as it is very well mentioned in the lyrics for the lead actress to confide her emotions when Aamir looks at the supposed gift. Frankly speaking you are no good reviewer if you dont remember any aspects of watching the film be it mentioning about a particular song oranything else. The particular stanza carries that song forward and is used with great effect as the audience too share the same emotion of not leaving the movie hall in spite of all the action ending, just to feel the emotion of the lyrics. And for the Bachoo track, buddy please go through the lyrics again and connect with character that Asin played. Every song cannot have perfect lyrics with Urdu and it justified her character how she lived her life. Ajay Nair. Jiah's item no was lattoo.. the movie answers why lattoo wasnt composed great (for me) as it features just few lines in the movie.. and also why shreya enters late in kaise mujhe.. thanks for clarifying for me. So, the song in which Asin ends up blocking the road sitting on the scooter was bachchhoo. That was the Rangeela situation of the song I was talking about but it was no way in any comparison with the Rangeela song. And, I think this song also was only one stanza or just the mukhda repeated twice or thrice if I can vaguely remember. I am still not able to recollect the Jiah item number Lattoo. Could anyone please refresh my 48 hour old memory. Seems Aamir's short term memory loss has got into my head too. ha ha ha. I still couldn't get why should a song of few lines be NOT composed great. If they didn't want to waste efforts, there were other ways of showing something, like, in Humse Hai Muqabla ARR had composed 3-4 verses/ mini-songs of 3-4 lines each to fit on different situations that sounded so great and perfect without wasting screen time. I think ARR has never done that again. And if Kaise Mujhe was to broken into two in the movie, may be they could have given it in two in the album also, as there is no real connection in the two parts of this song in the movie as such. May be they could have composed two songs for the two situation, but again, it probably comes down to not wasting efforts. -- Rawat having watched tamil ghajini twice I liked the 2nd half of the movie better than the first.. BGMs were well interwoven with the film unlike tamil version.. the bit rap when Aamir chases Jiah was catchy.. I remember it went on like Run.. Run.. overall ghajini was enjoyable.. SUBHASH GHAI i've always found it a challenging task to transform a dramatic script into a spellbinding musical, though i have this before with films like Karz, Meri Jung, Khalnayak and Taal. When i came across an interesting story of three brothers driven by sibling rivalry and a lady cellist who plays the catalyst in bringing them together, I immediately called up AR Rahman Now that most of the popular Hindi film songs are only about disco and Punjabi folk music, does it make sense to make a musical like Yuvvraaj ? .I asked. Rahman snapped back. Why not? If you get out of your comfort zone... go for experiments and innovations. . new music will happen! And it has happened! Two maestros Rahman and Gulzar Saab, have spend endless days and nights with me to create this album, an entertaining musical which blends the discord of three brothers with the heavenly sound of family togetherness. The story takes place in two of the most beautiful European countries - Prague Austria - that resound with nothing but music. Imagine a film where Salman is a dreamy singer katrina is a leading musician Zayed grooves to a chaotic disco sound.. Anil Kapoor enjoys only classical music Imagine the symphony of sound created by all these characters. Now Imagine my struggle to match my visuals to Rahman's mesmerizing sound and Gulzaar saab's magical lyrics.. This is Yuvvraaj.. Hope you enjoy it... ARRAHMAN Subhash Ghai is very different from other directors he has really worked hard on the visuals. They look really colorful and really romantic. It's almost treated in a musical way where it's more realistic than just background music GULZAR When i saw the songs of Yuvvraaj on screen, i send a message to Rahman saying that they were magnificent, and this is a very honest opinion of his songs and picturization, great show man, put up a great show.. i think the performance of Subhash's Yuvvraaj will go a long way in carrying this film ahead. It touches your heart SHRIDHAR ( Sound Designer ) I think its gonna rock, well, its gonna orchestrate. .. Its going to reach a lot of people.. and tough their minds and souls Amazing Album.. Re: [arr] Taal revisited - a review ...once again
Indeed nostalgiac and an apt reconciliation before the music of Yuvvraaj. Thanks for making me listen to the CD again and i remember it used to cost 299 during my college days. It was even worth more than that. Your friend, Ajay Nair. - Original Message From: Anil Nair [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, 12 October, 2008 8:58:44 AM Subject: [arr] Taal revisited - a review ...once again Indeed a timeless classic . from naachgaana.com http://www.naachgaa na.com/2008/ 10/11/taal- music-review/ Hey y'all…lets revisit a timeless classic. Yes, a classic indeed. Ghai, Rahman Bakshi are the names behind such a brilliant album. I still remember the first time I skimmed through the cassette tape. I wasn't familiar with this type of music…it was very different…Rahman' s composition' s were just out of this world. As days went by, I kept listening and kept picking each note, each beat, each tune up…I started noticing Rahman's arrangement and coordination… and then finally I realized that this album will never be forgotten. Till this day, almost every month, I go back and listen to the songs of Taal. Ishq Bina - For many people the first track was the best track of the album. I remember when I used to go to my local video store, girls would be humming along to this track. My cousins would singing along to Bakshi Saab's amazing lyrics. This track definitely goes down well with the females. Rahman uses a singer named Anuradha. I never heard of her at that time. She does a marvellous job on this track. She has a very sweet and innocent voice. Her voice really suit's Ash's. Sonu comes in the middle of the track and shines the help of Bakshi's poetic lyrics. Yet, in this track Rahman himself is the complete show stealer. As he yells on top of his lungs, Ishq Bina Kya Jeena Yaaron…Ishq Bina Kya Marna Yaaron, you instantly get goosebumps on your hand. The violins and the dholak are the huge standout's in this composition. Super-Hit track. Taal Se Taal - From the moment your hear Sukhwinder's voice eckoing in the background you know that this track is going to be a huge success. Rahman's violins, strings, dholaks and claps come together to create magic. Anand Bakshi's lyrics are very real and pure. My favourite part is when Udit enters the track he belts out some of Bakshi's finest words: Maana Anjaan Hoon Tu Mere Vaaste…Maana Anjaan Hoon Main Tere Vaaste…Main Tujkho Jaan Loon Tu Mujkho Jaan Le…Aah Dil Ke Paas Aah…Is Dil Ke Raaste…Jo Tera Haal, Woh Mera Haal Hai…Is Haal Se Haal Mila…Taal Se Taal Mila. It was real nice to see Alka apart of this album as well. She sounds like an angel here.. This is Alka at her finest. Well composed track indeed. Nahin Samne - This is my favourite track from the lot. It's the slowest, yet most purest track composed. Rahman makes Hari Haran sing…and boy does Hari Saab sing…he sings his lungs out. This song is a probably one of the most difficult songs to sing. Not everyone has the amount of lung power that Hari Haran has. When he extends the note Priyasi it's like his voice reaches heaven. For many years I tried singing this song…I just can't…it's too damn hard. So I must give major props to Hari Haran. Lyrically, this is the best song in this album. Anand Bakshi outdoes himself here. All you have to do is close your eyes and you will find yourself lost in Rahman's composition. One word to describe this track…Ethereal. Kahin Aag Lage - I remember the first time I heard about this song. I wasn't too attracted to it. Honestly, I ain't an Asha fan. I know she's like a legend, one the queens of music. But as days progressed, this track got really catchy. I was yelling Kuk Kuk KO and saying Aaavo Saiyooo Aaavo Saiyo lol. Those little things Rahman saab adds in the middle of this track are just too memorable. By the time the promo came out I knew that this song will big big amongst the masses. People will love it and they did so. Asha's work in this song is mind-blowing. Today I have to admit that no one could of sung this song better than her. The background singers should also get props, because their work really added to this track. Good pacy track from Rahman here. Ni Main Samajh Gayee - This seemed like an experimental track from Rahman. There is only one beat from start to end. But AR is smart…he gets the two most powerful singers to create magic. Sukhwinder and Richa Sharma get together and hypnotize you. This is a hypnotic track that messes with your head. You get so caught up with it that there is no way out. The biggest plus point goes to the chemistry between the two singers. Anand Bakshi's lyrics once again get the job done. The magician is mesmerizing here. Ramta Jogi - This time around Rahman gives Sukhwinder his change to shine. Sukhwinder takes this track to another level. His voice blends in perfectly with Rahman's fantastic arrangements
