wow! nice read wiredbeats. I may have some of remixes from your website!!we need experts pov for Rahman album!something to learn and enjoy! btw..I cudnt get why you call Irumbile oru idhyam or even Fanaa a flat track. I remember shankar saying in the audio launch that he wanted a song for bringing the emotions in the robot. Rahman tried 3 to 4 times and came up with this finally loved by Shankar. as you said, teh flow is being interrupted. I believe thefirst 3 tunes might have satified music lovers but then, it doesnt works that way I guess. I dont know its fair to compare a techno-trance album with Rahman's situational song in endhiran. after repeated listening, Im hooked to this song, it brings a little south music taste in it...Kaaadhal ahzaikudho!!. I guess I get what you are saying..Rahman not changing the rhythm, the whole song, knowing Rahman who is the best bringing different moods uin the samme song! I believe there will be a reason for this vision in the oscar winner's mind! ;) I robo un kadhil I love u sollata !!! nice. I think its been that long...what with so many good reviewers around such as Chord etc, we are well balanced. I just thought this time i would attempt to sort of share some notes on enthiran. Enthiran did not require any brilliance in actual composition, the whole sound track needed lot of energy and some out of the world programming and mixing expertise. The concept of the sound track of enthiran suits all gizmos and toys that today almost all good composers have or can gain access to. It is the balance of what to use, how much to use to strike a trade-off between noise and music. This trade-off is seen in its absolute best in the first track of the CD. I am great fan of electronica - house, techno, beach house, down tempo and lounge music produced by lables such as Ministry of sound, Hed Kandi and few select DJ/programmers such as Armin Van Burren, Ferry Corsten, ATB, Moby to name a few. What these guys ensure is that the overall feel of the song, the production values are so damn rich that you feel that extra cash that you spend on your expensive CD system is well spent. They many not always produce melody, but the rhythm, the bass, the ambient pads, synths used are chosen and placed with such perfection that a rather simple 4x4 beat track sounds awesome. Rahman has a team that achieves and exceeds the standards set by such international artists. However, in the context of film songs such brilliance are often interrupted by the demands of the song, situation and directors brief. And i think striking a balance is very tough given so many strings pulling. If you remove the strings, Rahman's music becomes more free flowing and thats why Vande Mataram and his latest god level tracks in Nokia Connections album are talked about. Now, if you listen to puthiya manitha, the first track in enthiran disc - the samples used, the structuring of the song, the reverb and the overall usage of the stereo soundscape has come out so well that it is an absolute satisfaction. The dept of the kick (beat), the open and closed HiHats, the rising and falling synths are right there where the best of the music producers operate. I mean when i heard it for the first time and after the Khatija's lines are over i felt ..It would be great if he introduces a layer of soft kicks with prominent highs and sort of make the track flow into the mainline. And it happened and happened so well. This is strikingly brilliant. It feels rich. Same is the case with Khilimanjaro track. The taiko drums sink deep and uses all the stereo landscape such an instrument needs. Taiko drums have a very loud character to it. Once you introduce it in a song, you must be careful not to under utilise it because energy levels in the song will drop so badly that you would start to loose interest. Over usage would be very irritating. Khilimanjaro is a fairly simple track and has a of space to breath. This makes it very catchy and to top it, the production values are awesome. The problem comes in the other track - Irumbile oru idhayam. This is a very sad and average track. It seems to be put in a hurry. Very ordinary. When i heard it first i felt the track is going to take off in an another level when Kash n krisshy start their lines,

I too felt the robo sounds a lil old school. but then I navigate my ipod to listen Rock that body by black eyed peas, the most current in this genre, and teh little old Imogen Heap-Hide and seek..I dont see a lotaa difference. ofcourse we cant expect an owl city kinda music which may not support the character of a Robot!!Rahman might have done justfication based on the character but the movie has to support it. my favoroties: Pudhiya manidha Kadhal annukal Irumbile oru idhayam Kilimanjaro Arima Chtti dance Im havin a hard time to get on groove with Boom Boom Robo. the rap part is very low, the 1960s tune(siki mukki, automatic kara) of the song kinda dragging in bwteeen a fast pacy robo song..there are some good parts of it ofcourse!! I think Rahman has worked hard on this album and do not assume that he's lacking time. I think he puts his all into every project. I think it's very difficult to compose for a movie like this...keeping both Shankar and Rajinikant in mind, plus the robo factor! Apart from the robo sounds, I don't think anyone else could have composed better music for a film of this type. Again, there are things in this album I like and things that I don't like. Latika's theme - In the genere of Jeans theme...something you wud love. 4. Ringa Ringa - Loved Ila Arun's voice and the music especially during the 2nd interlude. 5.Liquid dance - Something I can compare against Rangeela theme..but not as great as Rangeela..still likable..need to find out how it evolves when i listen more and more. 6. Mausam escape - a fusion of Veena, Volin with a trance effect!!!..great try..still comparable to other fusion(see 9 below) 7. Gansta Blues - Its a good try but I do think the song is too slow..cud have been better with heavier beats and little paes wud have made this #2 in the list.Due to english lyrics m forced to compare aginast others..but I wud have loved if ARR used another Rapper..!!! Loved Tanvi's part. 8.Dreams of fire - shud be slow poison..the song is too slow to catch up..but sure it fits the mood in the movie. Coz of english lyrics..M forced to compare Suzanne's voice to some of the other greats. but the flute somethig special only Rahman can give us!!! 9.Millionare and Riots - electroni/dance/trance fusion - need more lietening to see whats Rahmanic about this comparing other electronic fusions we hear day to day(like paul Oaakenfield who is one of the best in the business!!!)

Using a singer's voice is a music directors choice thats why ARR is music director and Sonu is a singer in their respective professionals. I love Sonu's voice so let me start from here.I don;t know Chord's comment is correct or wrong but its his opinion and you may agree or disagree. If its a less experienced singer woudnt have commented like that so Sonu being an experienced singer and has a lot of respect to ARR which was my understanding and why would he adddress the media stating his voice not utlised is something wrong with his attitude or its a HOAX information, or just a media speculation.but pls note : A fan or audience who buy that album can comment how the song and singer has sung it but a singer who gets paid cannot comment why he is not utilised. I personnaly feel its just not a singer's business. now I kinda understand where Chord's comments are coming from. ARR want to be perfect wwanted to have Sonu's voice even if its just a harmony. e.g. Guzarish has sonu's voice just as a guest vocal. well, I think the media speculation so far is Sonu is being very generous on this coz hedoesnt do these guest vocals normally. again its just IMO. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, V S Rawat [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 11/16/2008 6:54 PM India Time, _Chord_ wrote: If what is said was actually true, it's only an ego issue, nothing more. Sonu is a polite person, he doesn't make odd comments. ARR has used him wisely and brilliantly in several great songs (qismat se tum...). Sonu is capable and hardworking, and he has every right to say if he wanted to give better. I think it is a great comment of him that when we are all finding shano and mastam great songs, even then sonu himself feel that he could have done better. It is not an adverse comment on ARR. -- Rawat

Nonwithstanding, music critics and Rahman fans will dissect this album to no end, finding fault here, comparing this to the Tamil Ghajini and saying this is better or worse than that, making the same old accusations of Rahman being repetitive, losing it, nothing new or pathbreaking, etc. etc. Happens with every Rahman release, so we have to expect this. Honestly, I enjoy healthy discussion and analysis of music, but sometimes think that many are way too critical of Rahman's music and expect way too much, almost like everyone has a fantasy album in mind and if Rahman hasn't read your mind and delivered your very own unique set of expectations, the album is a loss.

It's a great movie, very different... very realistic. I would recommend everyone to watch it. I was lucky enough to get two seats for the pre-screening in Los Angeles. I went with my friend, I was not expecting the theater to be full since it's not a mainstream American movie. But to my surprise there was a huge line just to get in, and we barely saw any Indians... It was an all American audience. The direction and storytelling is awesome, along with some brilliant acting. Now coming to the BGM... Rahman has given an excellent score for the movie. The background music really compliments the movie well. M.I.A was featured at least a couple or more times throughout the movie. There are many fantastic BGM pieces used throughout the movie apart from what is played in the trailers. The romantic piece played on Jamal and Latika is simply awesome, it's a female voice humming.. I couldn't figure out who. I had a big wrestler type dude crying next to me during one of these scenes. The music was truly moving and added a lot of emotions to the scenes. Regarding what the reviewers and critics had said about the ending... it's true.. about 97% of people stayed glued to their seats as the End credits started rolling.. with the Jai Ho song by Sukhwinder and some dance sequence with a huge crowd. The song... well, I was not too impressed by it... it's an average song by Rahman standard but not very good or best.. may be because I was hearing it the first time? But hey, the people seemed to love it. And when they showed Music composed by A.R. Rahman towards the end... people cheered and clapped! Well, that made my day. We can expect more high profile international projects from Rahman, thanks to this movie. Let's hope it bags the Oscars for music. Jahanzeb, The true fact is you are disapponinted with the music but its only you..but there is something called difference of opininion!!! a lot of people both here and orkut ARRahman communitiy..liked the music. well you can always compare with Taal, Dilse, Rangeela. but really you should spend some time reading the reviews came out when those were out. I'm sure there will be another Janhanzeb trying to make people understand how Arr disapointed yet again. but outof nowhere it becomes a classic after a year for some of those. I have nothing against your taste...but Here is the most imp point you migt havs missed!! 1.ARR is the highly paid music director...paid big bugs!!! 2.Big deal producers still trying to get ARR as their film music director. They wait more time than even a ARR-Fan waiting for ARR's release. Do you think the producers like ARRs divine feelings??..or they like his recording theater,or place where he lives or they liked him because he composed Roja, Dil se, Rangeela(hahaa). na na na..this aint joke!! they go to him because of the MASS, CURRENT MARKET not the 1996 popularity..and these cant be given only by Fans but a lot lot more people need to like the music. but here is the catch with ARR - The MASS you are talking about is the FANS. If ARR fans like it then it already reached the mass. be assured about it.If you dont like it guess what? I pity you. You are one of those small..tiny winy group who doesnt likes this.. sorry!! no Offense...you asked for it bro.!! dont glue your eyes and ears to your music system with Yuvvraaj playing..just relax yourslef.focus on your normal day to day life and have this song played in yoru car, living room when you have dinner..rom nowhere it hits you like a storm...!! --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Jahanzeb Farooq [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: man you have to accept it. although it is growing on us and we have started liking more compared to the first time, but the fact remains that it is not something liked by the masses. only one song Tu meri dost would be liked by the masses but not the rest. even recent ARR albums had many songs loved by masses (and critics) e.g., Tere bina, Mayya mayya, Barso re (Guru), Pappu, Aditi, Kahin to (JTYJN) etc etc. Furthermore the fact remains that Yuvvraaj does not have even a single song which can be called just mibdblowing or plain awesome as per the ARR standards etc. comparing to Taal it still remains a HUGE disappointment, if not for us (ARR fans) certainly it is for masses. the weakest songs of Dil se, Taal or Bombay are still better than strongest song/s of Yuvvraaj. lets analyze it. Mastam mastam is good, it grows, melody is Rahmanish, Sonu is perfect, but again it is not something instantly loved by masses. Zindagi is again good but nothing exceptional. it heavily relies on vocals, too little music, no traditional ARR interludes etc. Man mohini is very good but alas too short, which is completely un- understandable, why did not ARR put a few more minutes to it??? strange. Dil ka risha is very good again, orchestra is great. it would be loved more than Zindagi, Mastam, Man mohini by masses. however it is a very situational song, not something you will find people humming or playing on streets etc. Shano shano is one of the weakest songs of ARR ever, people will not find anything special in it. it is not very different than dozens of Pritam and others' songs releasing every day. even Pappu (JTYJN) was far far far far far far better. so at the end the only song remains is Tu muskura which will be liked by the masses but again there is nothing very special in it. it is likable but not something blockbuster etc. it is in the league of recent Tu bin bataye (RDB) and Milo wahan wahan (Ada) though the two were far far better. just think of some of ARR's biggest hits and ask yourself honestly can we compare any of Yuvvraaj's songs with Satrangi, Dil se, Chaiyyan chaiyyan (Dil se) Taal se taal, ishq bina, ramta jogi (Taal), Kehna hi kya, Hamma hamma, Tu hi re (Bombay) and those from Rangeela, Saathiya, Lagaan, Roja, Sapnay etc etc or even recent lesser hits rang de basanti (RDB), khwaja mere khwaja, azeem-o-shaan (JA) etc and those from Guru etc. and you will get the answer. hence i am certainly not surprised by the reactions of masses. ARR here really disappointed, because of Ghai-ARR combo people were expecting something as fantastic as Taal, but there is no comparison between Taal and Yuvvraaj. at least if you ask me if i give 10/10 to Taal i will give only 4/10 to Yuvvraaj. ARR should have experimented in some other low profile album but certainly not in Yuvvraaj. also a film solely based on music certainly required some instantly classic music, like Taal. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Chord purevibz@ wrote: Did anyone read the comments that

Great review! --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Anil Nair [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Easily one of the best reviewers of music..suresh and easily one of the best reviews of Yuvraaj. I think even ARR would love to read this one http://ursmusically.blogspot.com/2008/10/yuvvraaj-soundtrack.html People often say that Rahman's music grow on multiple listening. Even I had this opinion, but 'Yuvvraaj' music made me realize how rubbish that statement is. The time one takes to understand and appreciate the music depends solely on person's music sensibilities and the level of concentration one pays to the music while listening. With so many distractions around, the attention span of people in common has obviously come down. Over a period of time, we tend to become so dumb and want everything to be spoon-fed, we want everything quick and instant and my negative reaction to 'Yuvvraaj' music is a danger signal to my deteriorating concentration when it comes to listening music. I couldn't appreciate 'Yuvvraaj' music on first listening, because I wasn't listening at all, I was just hearing. That is not Rahman's fault. For all the relentless work that Rahman puts in to give us a new music listening experience, he asks us very little in return, concentration and if we are incapable of that, at least a little patience for the songs to sink in. Though I lack concentration, I alteast had the patience and didn't jump into any conclusion on first listening. Rahman's music in general or Rahman's music in 'Yuvvraaj' specifically, isn't as complex as everyone claims it to be. The 5th Beethoven Symphony that punctuates the introduction speech of Salman Khan in 'Main Hoon Yuvvraaj' actually misleads a listener. There is symphonic grandeur throughout the soundtrack and to strike a balance between the classical roots and modernism there is also the typical synthphony of Rahman. Ofcourse there are lot of layers of sounds which may make it sound complex. But, in music, it is not the sound that adds to the complexity, it is the layering of melodies or as they put it, it is the counter melodies that one should consider to determine the complexity of a song. In that sense, there are no such complex counter melodies here. Also, Rahman has totally avoided acoustic percussions and has used catchy synth rhythm loops to make it sound simple and easy for listening. But it is in the flow of the melody and the structure of the songs where Rahman doesn't compromise. Rahman has always defied the conventional structure of Indian movie songs, and it is not a big surprise that no song in Yuvvraaj sounds conventional in its structure. Phrase after phrase, the melody makes unexpected twists and turns and that is why I wasn't able to get the overall beauty of the song on first listening. 'Mastam' is one of the most euphoric songs that we would get to listen in this year and yet because of the unpredictable flow of melody I found it difficult to comprehend initially. It keeps flowing without giving us a breathing space for the just-heard phrase of melody to sink in. But I must admit that the melody of 'Aaye jhee baanke aaye' line made me instantly and involuntarily sway my head left and right. The collective euphoria of the sound of Gluzar's word play, Irish rhythm, the taps, claps, harmonica, strings, and choir makes oneself feel lighter and brings a smile on one's face. This is the first song of the soundtrack to become my favorite. 'Tu meri dost' is intricately layered with brilliant and appropriate usage of acoustic instruments. Though there is a constantly looping e- beat and lot of e-sounds and looping layers, the core emotion of the song is carried through by strings, the piano that peeps in and flute that flows in at most appropriate moments. Like say, when Rahman ends his line with 'nisa nisa sari sari', the flute that takes off, Harp that slides through all its strings and the piano chords that starts and continues to accompany the vocal that follows, sounds scintillating. The way Shreya hits the low with the words 'gungunathi hai' and 'mila thi hai' and that distant cry of Shreya going 'Awaaz hoon main' at the end of the song are heavenly. Surprisingly, the prelude of 'Tu Muskura' starts with the same cello piece that we just heard in the interlude of 'Tu Meri Dost' and later to our surprise, it indeed is the main melody of the song. Rahman being aware of the fact that the melody in the following stanza is a little disconnected from the main melody tries to connect the stanzas with an interlude that hints the vocal melody of the following line, on strings and so when soon Alka starts to sing the line, it doesn't sound odd or disjointed. And when Alka repeats the same melody again along with the same interlude piece played on strings in tandem, our ears become quite comfortable with the melody. And

And finally, the chord progressions in the song are ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. It's the chordal progressions which add those special surprise elements throughout the song, as if on a journey with breathtaking twists and turns. Rahman using a lot of minor 6th and 7th triadic variations which add an immense richness to the harmony. Especially take note the ending, when Rahman starts singins Round and round. I kinda felt the same with the sound quality. But following quality of Harris make me feel He is far far far away from ARR in any other aspects Tunes.dont you feel its immature sometimesome of them sounds good though supported by the quality of sound. Lady singers choice sucks big time for most of the songs. He is trying false voice but dude he's spoiling the song in most cases. I think he's inspiring most of the western music and also I feel his tunes are based on late 80's english pop music. Arr is Arr. ARR is master of all the above thats why as you mentioned he is world class. He doesn't even need great sound quality to prove that. But you are right ARR might need to try something more in the sound quality including 5.1 recording then it would be a additonal bonus for some of us. i too felt Harris soungs good in 5.1. i get surprised sometime. Why this is happening..He needs to surely look into this matter.. Guyz as a true fan we should not stop at only praising the merits in the tune but also to let him know about the flaws in the songs... Guys again i m saying that i dont say that ARR's songs have poor quality or less quality ... There is no doubt he is having one of the world's well equipped studio...but i cant understand y it happens though...Again i m stressing on comparatively with HJ Ok guyz i m expecting ur comment on this.. [arr] Repeat words in ARRs Hindi songs
Guys, Is somebody out here to help me get this out of my mind... I dont know Hindi..ok :-( I've been listening almost all songs of ARR and i feel there are more repeat words in Hindi songs..but I enjoy those. It sounds catchy. From top of my head...here is some but i'm sure there are many. like in Dil se re..Giya Giya, Piya Piya In tere bina - Beswadi, Beswadi, Peeki Peeki, Khatena , Khatena Legend of Bhagat Singh - listen to Mahive Mahive..i think its too much here but ofcourse i'm hoping it means somethin and this is one of those Rehman's catchy simple tunes. Are these meaning something ???!! or just fillers in the tune.what about those guys who wants good Lyrics in songs think about these.. Is somebody noticing it..or am the only Knuckle Head here...:-)
[arr] Ah Aah--trailer gave a wrong impression about the music.
