[arr] Three weeks for VTV to sink in

2010-01-26 Thread bpr_arr
Sighh. Finally VTV has got into me, it has got into my blood, sleep, dream,
breath everything. The first time I heard it, I was like WTH is this, but I
have always liked ARR stuff that I hate initially as I tend to love it later
on. I just dont go on listening to it if I dont like, here is what I do.

1) Listen initially for a couple of times, since most of the stuff is so new,
especially the structuring nothing comes to my lips.
2) Stop listening for a few days and then unknowingly I will start humming
something from the album.
3) So I go back to CD and listen again. At this point something registers in
mind and I start humming a few bits and pieces again.

thats it, I just repeat the step1 to step3 and it gets into me full time.

Amongst the current lot of music directors, who do you think is doing good
work?
In the current lot, I guess AR Rahman. He has become a legend. Apart from him
there is Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara is unbeatable and is one
of the best scores I have heard in recent times. Then there is Salim-Sulaiman,
Vishal Shekhar. I have been very fond of Mithoon's music in Anwar. Also Himesh
who has created his own style and his kind of music.

Subject: [arr] The beauty of vellai pookal

sunday morning i was listening to vellai pookal after some time and
man, was it awesome. We might as well replace suprabhatam with vellai
pookal and the morning effect is almost equivalent. Well...almost ,
because nothing compares to the voice of MS singing kausalya
supraja...ok i'm digressing from the topic. I was counting the number
of instruments used in the song. ARR is famous for using a lot of
instruments in his songs, some which are barely audible to the human
ears. But in this song, there are just 4 instruments, the main one is
the guitar strumming throughout the song, the usual keyboard base
effect, another instrument which i think is the guitar which comes in
the beginning the interludes and the heavenly flute in the second
interlude. These 4 instruments, arr's voice and vairamuthu's vaira
varigal combine to create a mindblowing effectyou can envision
the flowers blooming and the child waking in the morning...I put
together the translation for this song and it's like a bharathiyar
  poem

  stanza 1

The white flowers blooming all over the world
  the morning dawns for peace
the golden rays of the sun touching the ground
the flowers waking from their sleep
let the baby open it's eyes in the hands of the mother (i understand
what 'thaayin kathakathappil' means but i'm not able to place an
  english word for it )
let the world dawn in the laughter of a child

  stanza 2

the gentle sound of the wind and the songs sung by the rain; can
they bring the hapiness brought by silence ?
the crores of keerthanas and the words strung together by poets; can
convey the same meaning as one drop of tear ? (vellai pookal...)

  Stanza 3

where the little child stretches it's hand, there will be eternal
  hapiness
where man stops all wars, there the white dove will sing (vellai
  pookal...)

[arr] Will Sajani click ?

2007-01-31 Thread bpr_arr

Wonder whats going to be the fate of sajani at the box office. There is was
this another kannada movie Preethigaagi which was a remake of the tamil
original Kadhalikku Mariyadai, which was eventually remade in hindi as DSR.

The above mentioned kannada movie probably released a couple of months back and
bombed. Home Sajani fares well.

He acknowledges the yahoo groups in this interview.

  over 8,000 fans and I keep track.http://ww1.mid-day.com/smd/play/2006/march/132817.htm

SHOW ME THE MONEY: 85 per cent of
Rahman's payment for The Rising is still due. Pic: Pradeep
BandekarWe meet the composer 16
floors above sea level at a suburban five-star hotel. A R Rahman is riding the
Rang De Basanti wave as calmly as he rode the massive flops: Netaji Subhas
Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero and Mangal Pandey The Rising. There
are those times when the 'cool' musician chuckles like a little boy, when we
ask him about recording with Lata Mangeshkar."It was just an idea," he
says, dragging the last word with a south Indian twang, and shrugging his
shoulders until his neck disappears, "I thought I would sing along with her
like a son's reply to a mother's voice." That's as far as he would go to admit
that Luka chuppi was an indulgence. But this time around, we thank
Andrew Lloyd Weber for initiating the composer in the art of interaction. In
Rahman's own words, a few years ago, after the success of Bombay Dreams,
"Andrew taught me that music is also about presentation, and I can't keep
going into my shell." Our drilling session would have sure come up
with blanks had we encountered the introvert that Rahman once was.
  You said you were
tired of period films.I didn't say that. I said I was tired of
people slotting me; just because I did period films like Mangal Pandey people
got the impression I wanted to retire and go to AIR. It took four
months to come up with the score for Mangal Pandey. I'm yet to be paid for
Mangal Pandey.I had to be patient enough for Rang De Basanti's
release, but knew that people were getting impatient. Most fans thought that I
had turned into a desh bhakt with all the period films.

How do you communicate with your
fans? There's a yahoo groups fan base with over 8,000 fans and I
  keep track.
  Let's talk Rang De
BasantiIt feels very good. In fact, that's another period film of
sorts. Rakeysh and I coordinated with each other for four years for Rang De
Basanti. The only difference is that we got a new producer, which was a huge
leap. Rakeysh gave me four scripts and said that he had another small
idea, which turned out to be the fifth script. I told him that this is your
movie. It's not a cliché. I'd never heard something like this before.
I think people are lost today. Especially the younger generation. The film is
almost like a coded message for the youth.

How long did you take to compose the score
for this one? It's the quickest score I've ever written. The
initial tracks which included six to seven songs took two weeks. Initially
Khalbali was recorded fully in Arabic in London, and I sent it to the team
over the internet. All of them said, "What is this? Is this from our
film?" Rakeysh said that we should do it in Hindi so that it grows on people
and it was his idea that I sing. Rubaroo was completed only two weeks before
the music released - only the mukhada was done and we did the antara later.
Luka Chuppi took a week, and the background score wrapped up in 10 days.

  Which was the
toughest?Khoon Chala was meant to be a loud track. It was
all about expressing a revolutionary's thoughts. I would have hated doing it
as it was originally planned, because people wouldn't have been interested in
this sort of a track. It just wouldn't fit into Rang De Basanti. We
took a last minute decision to use a romantic melody. Serious lyrics on a love
tune made all the difference. We wanted Mohit (Silk Route) to sing the
track and it turned out that Prasoon had worked with the band, and everything
  just fell into place.

You've recorded Jiya Jale with Lata
Mangeshkar previously. How different was it working with her seven years later
for Luka Chuppi?Lataji is more than just a voice. The whole awe
of motherhood is summed up in that song because she brings a whole range of
emotions to it. She's still the same extraordinary singer.
  You mean there are
no vocal differences? The range has come down. There is a problem
with high notes that has to be digitally adjusted. But that's a physical
thing. My vocal range has come down too with age. It's
nothing to do with singing capabilities. The title track didn't have
  a

Re: [arr] RE;WAT SAJID KHAN NEEDS TO BLABBER ABT RDB MUSIC

2006-01-21 Thread bpr_arr

From what I know. Farah is a huge fan of ARR and
she wanted him to score for Main Hoon Naa. But after listening to the crap story
probably ARR might have snubbed her. That is why her good for nothing brother
always keeps on barking at ARR.

Also on this very show, when the soundtrack of Yuva came out in
Hindi,Sajid Khan compared it with Anu Malik's Mai Hoo Naa and said Mai
Hoo Naa's music is better than Yuva(Farah Khan, sister of Sajid Khan, is the
director of Mai Hoo Naa)... In
reality Mai Hoo Naa's music is nothing in comparision to ARR's Yuva(One of his
  best soundtracks)...

Also one should notice that Ranjit Barot( I guess everyone knows about
Ranjit... Ranjit used to work for ARR He is an
independent composer also and one good at that) arranges music for Anu Malik
  these days...
And it's just because of Ranjit Barot that Anu Malik's music sounds
  good

  Long Live ARR!!

PS : I'm a new member to this fan group. And I'm ARR's fan ever since
Roja has been released in Telugu.

Re: [arr] Anyone want to laugh?

2006-01-12 Thread bpr_arr

Didnt like the title song of RDB. Come on. Just try to sing the song, U
will know its not an easy song to sing. The kind of energy that Daler has put
into it is amazing.

Paatshala does not have good lyrics. I dont know how good ur hindi is.
If i was a college student. Probably I would sing paatshala. Watch the movie and
then comment.

I agree with you on the Blazee rapping part. I too am fed up of
him.

Raghu

Absolutely. I am sick of hearing blaze or someonerapping over the
songs. Paatshaala and Khalbali andsongs like that really pull it down. Even
the titlesong is a disappointment. When Daler Mehendi harped onand on
about how he sang the entire song in 5 minutes, our suspicions should have
been raised. The sad partis that Rahman himself seems to have taken
justanother 5 minutes to create the magic of the songafter he has the
singers recorded. The "melody" numberTum Bin Bataye has some promising
instrumentation butseems too cliched and tries too hard to be a
melodynumber. I like the organ which sounds like a choruschanting during
the verses, but the rest of the songis just meh.

[arr] Listen to RDB on headphones to feel the music

2005-12-14 Thread bpr_arr

Belive me listen to RDB on headphones. Each and
every song has a feel to it which u will easily miss out when listening on any
speakers be it sony or BOSE or etc. But on my IPOD the album sounds so
different. For eg in the song "Tu Bin Batayee " when Naresh Iyer starts to sing.
The music in the background ( i dont know the name of the instruments ) just
melts my heart. Its an awesome feeling which cant be expreseed. Each and
every song has something in it which u will miss out without good headphones.

I am dead sure all the guys who have listened to
RDB on headphones have loved it.

Re: [arr] ARR shows all his variety in one album

2005-12-13 Thread bpr_arr

I agree. Roobaroo has been growing and growing
and growing on me after every listen to it. Eah and every song has got
an amazing feel to it. I have also started loving "IK Omkaar" its awesome. The
only sad thing is its just around one and half minutes. To put it in plain words
in the past 5 or 6 years this is the only ARR album that I have listened to so
much. People on the group might talk abt other albums like "Meenaxi, yuva, etc".
These albums may be gr8 but I just could not connect to them. A couple of songs
from yuva were gud but as an album on the whole it did not satisfy me. RDB is
the one that has reallygone into me. I just totally hooked onto it. My
IPOD is just playing RDB since the day I bought it.

Subject: [arr] ARR shows all his variety
  in one album
He enters the Indian Film music director as a Jingler and
that iswhere a musician who is about to touch 40 next month reckons his
youthof Jingles. Guess the song in my mind Roobaroo. I feel an Ad kind
ofmusic the picture is clear the song is on the move. Very
uniquelycomposed though its sad ppl might just fail to miss how amazing
thissong is. But the more number of hearings may rate this song as numero
1.But wait dont stop here, songs one after another will get itself
ratedas #1 but it will take me weeks to switch between songs.other
than Paathshaala(hindi) all songs lyrics are difficult to sing,I mean all
the songs are tight in its compostion and notes. That iswhy ARR is called
a genius and has a seperate place for him.IK Onkar, rarely do we get to
listen a devotional song and so far ARRis the only who takes bold
step in this category. The last hearddevotional non- ARR was in
Virruddh and was great.Rang De Basanti: When the trailers were being aired
lot of commentswere thrown. Guys take back your words many non ARR fans
were justwaiting for the album to release. ARR creates an expectation not
justamongst his fans. Bangra sounded so fresh. it was time when
therepeated re mixes of bangra had reached the level of
saturation.Paatshala: ARR turns himself as a mentor to compose ROCK
induce inIndian movies. rest is that you will hear this song in few
daysgetting played in cars and disco.Tu bin bataye: I confess never
will I be able to sing this song. Itsso calm but tough in its notes. I
wonder how ARR was able to get thebest from the singers.KhalBali: the
listening to this song itself creates khalbali, what isthe female voice in
this song in the start. Is ARR using the voicebank of his YAMAHA (cud
somebody check if he has a TYROS) to generatethe female voice. Ziddi
Ziddi the question to ARR is are youreally Ziddi. This silent whizzkid
has many unexplored creativity andI am sure he is ziddi in using it and
will use it only where he thinkshe really needs it.Khoon Chala: I feel
that I have heard this singer in some album / Adsong. I hope this song
will be used in the BGM. So dont complain it wanot used properly, the song
seems to be very situational.Be A Rebel: many comments say that there is
no difference in music.but I doubt music means its much beyond
instruments. the vocal note ischanged and the tempo is varied to make the
groove. Oh oyi Oh oyiLukka Chuppi: This is where ARR is called a music
director greatsinger. It takes courage to convince the audience that
Lataji is now aveteran singer and is now old. I pity the Bollywood MDs
still expectLataji to sing for young teenager songs.I am bound to this
song emotionally: In a few days I will be flying tosee my parents after
about 1 and a half year, this one and a year sobrought lot of changes to
life but cud not meet my parents. Also Imight sound silly but this song
can be brought to Indian audience(mother) waiting for its genius kid
(ARR) who is reaching theheights conquering hearts
and the musical domain , the mom askingits kid to be here where the
kid says look mom your son has a lot tocredit with, but still my happiness
still rests with you. WONDERFUL.None other than ARR cud have given better
renedition.Lalkaar: sounds situational but this is the first in Hollywood
I feelan attempt of this kind. the bass effects make the hot blood to
boil.ARR does no mistakes in selecting the singers, he himself
beingsinger. esp Lataji.Lyrics: Prior getting the album in my hand I
was not happy selectingJoshi instead of Javed Akthar. the moment I got the
CD read the lyricsI was in joy the lyrics were great. What I miss
in this album:The first and foremost ARR's photo.1.The mention of AM
Studio, Chennai, India. 2. R Naveen flute (but whois playing flute like
instrument in Lukka Chippi)3. Shivamani's crazy drums Hozam is also great.

Re: [arr] Some thoughts on Rang De Basanti

2005-12-12 Thread bpr_arr

When Naresh Iyer starts "Mann ki
gali ...". I just cant control myself. I feel as if Iam flying in
heaven. This is the BEST ROMANTIC SONG composed by ARR in the past decade ( my
personal view ).

Raghu

Listening
to "Tu Bin Bataye"... when Naresh first takes over, it is absolute bliss.
It is probably one of the best whatever-that-part-of-the-song-is-called
ARR has composed! The Sax bit hearkens one back to the beautiful sax piece
in the instrumental Vandemataram number. This and the wonderful segueing
into Naresh's mellifluous voice is worth the entire price of the CD!
And am I alone in feeling that the alaap in the mother-son song is a
little bit out of place? what a precocious son (matching mom note for
note :-))! I feel the Aamir "song" is too Iruvar like for
comfort... especially the "ambience".So far, there have not been
too many goose pimply moments in RDB, but I'm sure that will change after
a few more listenings. Has to!

As he has said " ARR lata song is horrible " I am sure this song
is gonna the biggest hit. As he has said he hasnt listened much. The song will
definitely grow. Lets see what happens. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Here is what dvdunlimitedonline.com admin (an IR fan) says about
RDBsongs. He has already got the CDs as he is a retailer who is
sellingit thru his site.Q: How are the songs?A: RANG DE BASANTI
song is excellent (or great!) Worth more than $5.Rest of the songs are good.
Need to listen few more times. Lot ofhangover of his previous tamil and
hindi albums.Q: Are there any "recycled" tunes? (Like using "Baba" tune
in Swades)A: Tamil rehash - not 100% but you get the feeling that you
havelistened to it somewhere. I dont want to compare the songs. In
shortits NOT an ARR album.Loose Control (paathshala) will be a big
hit than Rang De Basanti onsecond hearing. Has some Yuva hangover. This is a
good loop song. If Ididnt mention before, Lata ARR song is horrible. keep
the expectationlow and you will ike
it.Naveen

Re: [arr] A dream come true - my meeting with A.R. Rahman

2005-12-03 Thread bpr_arr

Hey Ajit,

 I was just visualizing ur
meeting with ARR as I was reading ur mail. Ur one of the luckiest. If u dont
mind cud u post the photos.

Raghu

Dear
fellow Rahman fans,Last week I had the most extreme fortunate
opportunity to meet with ARR during his away assignment working on the
LOTR music. I feel extremely fortunate to have met and befriended a
close associate of ARR who was extremely kind and generous enough to help
arrange this meeting. This person wishes to remain anonymous and I
will respect that. I met him late night at a studio where he was
working on the Rang De Basanti BGM. Rahmanji was kind enough to give
my wife and I his break time and spent about 15 minutes with us. A
beautiful human being, simple, pure at heart, hospitable, down to earth,
and at ease, he made us feel so welcomed and comfortable, despite being so
exhausted from lack of sleep and working on multiple projects in a
foreign land. I was so overwhelmed in his presence that I did not
get a chance to ask him too many questions, but I got his autograph on
my Vande Mataram CD and some photos taken with him. He was very
happy that I chose the Vande Mataram for him to sign and asked me my
favorite song from that album. I said, "Only You", and he said,
"Only You?I didn't do that one properly!" Can you believe
it? An amazing song, one of my favorites, and yet he thinks that he
could have done a better job with it. Didn't have a chance to get
into details about it. I also did not want him to feel like I was
interviewing him, since we already felt kind of guilty for taking his
break time. But, he not once made us feel less important than him or
not once did he ever air his status, talk about himself, or anything to
that extent. He never once showed that he was bothered by our coming
there during his busy time. He smiled, joked with us, asked us
caring questions. He was so relaxed, we felt like we've known him
for some time. So gracious and welcoming, despite going to a studio,
he made us feel as if we came to his home and even offered us something to
eat, despite not having many options for food at the studio. Just
speechless to describe what a beautiful person he is, pure in heart and
soul, and as you all know, it shows through his music. I was
lucky enough to have Rahman read a long letter I had written that was
given to him by this close associate and my friend the day before.
In that letter, I poured my heart out as far as what his music means to me
and the many ways I appreciate his music and how he has impacted my
life. He took the time to read it and I was so grateful. I
wish he could read what you all would like to say to him too. I
learned that he does read our messages on this group and feels
grateful. My fellow fans, I had you all in mind when I was
meeting with Rahman and I so dearly wish each and every one of you can
have an opportunity like I did. You are all equally as deservng as
me to have the kind of experience that I had. I am so proud to be a
Rahman fan and to be among the good company of you all as part of this
special group.I would like to mention specifically that I met this
close associate of ARR through this group, and if it weren't for this
group, I would not have gotten the opportunity that I did to create a
special friendship with him and to meet with ARR. I also met another
very very close friend two years ago through this group, for which I am
so grateful. This person who I met two years ago is one of the most
generous human beings imaginable and he was kind enough to provide me
copies of ARR's entire collection and much much more. Thank you
Gopal, thank you to all who make this group so special and for
allowing me to voice my love for ARR and to have created some special
friendships and most recently, to have met with ARR. I really hope
ALL of you someday get to meet him like I did. Much much thanks to
this group. I wanted to write earlier, but I was busy studying for
my state board exams this week, which I took on Wed, and just busy with
work. I wanted to wait until today to gather my thoughts and to
write appropriately. Long live ARR. HAIL
ARR! Let us all pray for ARR's future success
and may he climb unknown heights. With warm regards to you
  all,Ajit

[arr] Naughtiness in the Rang De Basanti title track

2005-11-26 Thread bpr_arr

Hello every body,

The track is very unusual from the usual punjabi stuff that u get to hear. Just hear
the way Daler sings "ding ding ding ding" its kinda funny. The same
thingis also played in the form of an instrument. That bit of the music it
self makes this track stand apart from the usual stuff. The rythm of the track
is also gr8.Am egaerly waiting for this one. This track is definitely
gonna rock the Punjabi guyz.

  Hi!

read your mail...the biggest surprise came to me when i read that
Madhumati is the only album of Salil Chaudhary which you've heard. He was a
super-genius who was ranked along the likes of S.D.Burman, Naushad , Madan
  Mohan and all..

His area of expertise was Western Classical plus Folk.Infact, Ilaiyaraaja
worked with Salilda as a guitarist, which is why he too emulated similar
ingredients. Salilda was the first composer,in india, who looked at
Symphonies of the west..and understood the nuances which he adapted very
well..by fusing indian folk into it.We can say that his music was also a kind
of Fusion. he was a genius...his compositions were kinda complex..with lot of
Uthar-Chadaos..infact...the number of simple compositions is very
less...because most of his compositions used to baffle the
instrumentalists...people in those times used to feel that he is a cut
different from the rest because of his unique formula of
  symphony+folk+classical.

Some fantastic albums of Salilda are here : http://www.musicindiaonline.com/l/17/m/music_director.494/try
them...my picks would be Anand, Maya, Parakh, Rajnigandha, Choti Si baat,
  Chaya, etc.,.

i know Rahman admires Salilda a lot...however, having heard many Salil-da
songs, i can say that Rahman doesnt imbibe much of Salilda's style...he
does..but not much..According to me Rahman is (more) heavily inspired by
Naushad...and sometimes, both the Burmans..andat times even
  Ilaiyaraaja...he himself admits it..The Salil-da ingredient is very less..but
yet, if you take a song like "Sky"song from "Rhythm"..it is his tribute to
  Salil-da.

  Regards
  Aakarsh.

you so much for this link! I have always been blown over by the Music of
Madhumati, eversince I saw the movie (one of my first in Hindi along with
Abhimaan) as a 9 or 10 year old. I still remember falling in love with
the beauty of Vaijyanthimala, so this movie has a special meaning for me
too! Coming back to the music of Salil Chouwdhury, it is a class apart
in this movie, his versatality shows through the incredible variety of
styles he composes in this album. From the lyrical ballad Dil Tadap, to
the lovely Zulmi Sanga Aankh Ladi, to the heartwrenching Toote Hue
Khwabon, to the comical Jungle Mein, and the opening Aja Re Paradesi,
which always gave me the impression that both Mani Ratnam and ARR had
this song in mind for Roja's opening chinna chinna Asai, just a hunch.
Anyway, truly a masterpiece by all means. Unfortunately, that is the
only Salil Chouwdhury album I currently have or heard, well I have the
old Devdas DVD, but that does not have many songs.Looks like he
was Bimal Roy's favorite, that should speak enough of his genius! I like
these topics...we should branch out once in a while and discuss the old
greats of Indian music, who undoubtedly have influenced ARR in many
ways.From: "Manoj Mohan C"

attraction of his music. Both Ilayaraja and A.R. Rahman
followed the path charted by him. Ilayaraja was introduced to the
film industry as guitarist and combo organ player in Salil da's
recordings and his influence on Ilayaraja is evident. R.K. Sekhar,

Of course ARR is

ARR is best when he scores for romantic movies.

[arr] Shankar's Interview

2005-07-26 Thread bpr_arr

This is an interview with Shankar carried out by a
website "cinegoer.com". I am just pasting the interesting section of the
interview.

Why didn't you take special care about the
music?

Harris Jayaraj’s music was satisfactory. But the
problem is that most of the people are comparing my earlier movies with this
one. Comparatively this music is lighter and that is what is needed
here.

Hi,Yes it does not look ARR at all. Like he criticized
Subhaish Ghai, picturization of his songs, and the way he said clearly
that 'no more period films'. It is certainly not ARR. Moreover it is also
strange the way he praised 'Jadu hai nasha hai'. And then he praised
Amar Jamal who sang songs of Murder, it looks it is dont to make it an

credit to Anu Malik but the singer Amar Jamal.--- In

[arr] ARR to perform in Bangalore

Hello every one,

Was watching Udaya TV ( a
kannada channel ) today. The news reader mentioned that ARR would be performing
live in Bangalore for the first time. U know what this was mentioned in the
headlines. Just look at the kind of importance even the news channels give to
ARR. It made me feel so proud of ARR. They did not mention the
dates.
