[arr] Ghajini' outstrips DDLJ to become biggest domestic earner
New Delhi (IANS): Aamir Khan starrer 'Ghajini', which released to packed houses Dec 25, is on its way to create history by taking over the mantle of the biggest domestic earner so far, leaving behind 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'. 'Ghajini', a romantic action thriller that explores the life of a rich businessman who suffers from short-term memory loss following a violent incident, has earned Rs.2 billion ($41 million) in less than two weeks from its release. The film has grossed Rs.1.62 billion in domestic markets and Rs.390 million have come from overseas markets till end of second week. The film is still running to packed houses and may cross more milestones. 'Ghajini', a film that introduced Asin to Hindi cinema opposite superstar Aamir, was released with 1,200 prints in the domestic market and in a lot of small towns where films are not often released in the first week. In the overseas market, it is now second only to Karan Johar's hit film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' which collected Rs.440 million.
[arr] 'Ghajini' first Hindi movie to cross Rs 200cr mark
Ghajini is a monster hit..This, in coming weeks is going to turn out to be one of the biggest hits of all time in the history of indian cinema.Kudos to the entire team of Ghajini...Aye Bachoo..thats what Aamir, Rahman and entire ghajini team has made others feel.. :P --- 'Ghajini' first Hindi movie to cross Rs 200cr mark 8 Jan 2009, 2348 hrs IST, Meena Iyer, TNN MUMBAI: Bollywood has shot to a new high, thanks to Ghajini. When booking for the movie opened at a theatre in the UK on Wednesday, the film became the first to gross Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office. What's more, the mark has been achieved in little less than two weeks. It has grossed Rs 162 crore in the domestic market and Rs 39 crore has come from overseas till Thursday. An ecstatic Madhu Mantena, the Ghajini producer, admits to being overawed'' by the record but trade consultant Amod Mehra is apparently not surprised. The film was very strong from Day 1. It has been galloping like a one-horse race and, in my estimate, it will cross the Rs-250-crore (gross) mark very easily,'' Mehra said. Bollywood producer Punkej Kharbanda is also not surprised that a Hindi film has broken all previous box-office records. In the last year alone, there has been a 40% increase in cinema screens and also a rise in the cinema-going population, especially in the age group of 18-35. With most of the theatres recording good numbers on Ghajini, the Rs-200-crore mark is hardly a surprise,'' Kharbanda said. Ghajini released with the maximum number of prints in India (1,200 digital and analog versions) and it made inroads into even provincial towns where films never get released on the same day as the rest of the world. A trade source said, The film is set to take over the mantle of the highest domestic Bollywood earner from Anil Sharma's Gadar-Ek Prem Katha.'' In the overseas market, the film is, till now, second only to Karan Johar's Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna. Ghajini has also reportedly earned Rs 4 crore from gaming rights (a first for a Bollywood film), Rs 21 crore for satellite rights for India and overseas and something to the tune of Rs 10 crore for home video and music. [arr] Ghajini BGM is Good, ARR's one of the best
BGM of Ghajini is like ARR's songs which will take time to grow. I watched the movie twice one with my friends and the other time with my parents..I initially didn't like the BGM when I watched it for the first time. When I watched the movie 2nd the BGM just blew my mind. BGMs were the survivors for the movie Ghajini in some parts else the movie would have been very boring to watch. Some BGM's which were good were: 1.Behka Instrumental. 2.Behka Instrumental(sad). 3.Aye Bachuchu instrumental (soon after the song Aye Bachuchu). 4.Kaise Mujhe instrumental. 5.Flute usage in one scene before the girl narrates story to Jiah. 6.Run was bit different but was good. 7. Aamir's entry (when narration starts) not the first fighting scene. Great usage of all songs in the movie, songs were lavishly spent. Except for Latto all songs were good in the movie. If this supposed to be done by one of ARR's assistants then I would say even that person had brilliant job. Overall the movie was good to watch and the BGMs were pleasing to ears. watched Gajini a few days back. what a fantastic movie. the Script alone, I am sure, will bring them crores of rupees and make the movie a big success . Just came back after Watching Ghajini.. For me..It was a superb movie..Three cheers..When I watched Tamil one..i doubted if anyone could overtake Surya's performance in the movie..Aamir just showed why he is called Mr.Perfect..Stunner of a performance..I am lost of words... Coming to Rahman's work..the best placed songs in the movie were Guzarish and Kaise muje...Wish they could have shown more of Latoo...neverthless the picturisation of all the songs were really good...There was a huge roar among crowds as soon as Guzarish started..Lot of discussion has been going on BGM's..I felt the bgm's in ghajini were rahman's best of the year..after jodhaa akbar..It had Rahman written all over..The way he has used Behka was superb.. [arr] Ghajini rakes in big money ( SEMI ARR)
*Ghajini rakes in big money* After Shah Rukh Khan's [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=shah rukh khan ] successful run with *Rab Ne Bana Di Jodihttp://www.rediff.com/movies/rabne08.html *, it is Aamir Khan [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=aamir khan ] who is bringing in all the earnings for Bollywood this year with *Ghajini http://www.rediff.com/movies/ghajini08.html*raking in Rs 40 crore in the first four days of its inauguration. This means, *Rab Ne* and *Ghajini [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=ghajini ] *together are likely to contribute over 20 percent to the overall box office collections of top 50 Hindi films released in 2008. Trade pundits estimate that 2008 will now generate Rs 900 crore to Rs 1,000 crore, or about 15 percent more than last year's collections. Before the release of both *Rab Ne* and *Ghajini*, box office collections of top 50 Bollywood films was estimated at Rs 700 crore, about Rs 150 crore short of the collections of 2007 films, say trade experts. Now the Aamir-starrer remake of Tamil film by the same name, *Ghajini*, is pegged to generate about Rs 100 crore within three weeks of its release on December 25, while Shah Rukh's *Rab Ne* has already crossed collections of Rs 100 crore, including those from the overseas market. I do not expect any significant dip in the weekday's collections of * Ghajini*. The box office report is overwhelming, Aamir Khan said on a television channel on Sunday. According to a Mumbai-based trade analyst, *Rab Ne* has already generated profits of Rs 35 crore for Yash Raj Films, while *Ghajini *will do the same for its producers Geetha Arts and its Indian distributors. Earlier this month, leading box office analysts, including Komal Nahta and Taran Adarsh, had told *Business Standard *how these two films were most likely to bring back audiences to the theatres after the Mumbai terror attacks [Images http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=mumbai terror attacks] at the end of November. The weekend shows were mostly booked well in advance in our Mumbai and Delhi-NCR multiplexes. We expect a similar response the second weekend, a senior marketing executive of a leading multiplex chain said. In January, the focus will shift from Aamir and Shah Rukh to Akshay Kumar [ Images http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=akshay kumar], who will be starring in *Chandni Chowk to China [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=chandni chowk to china ] *another awaited film. http://www.rediff.com/movies/2008/dec/29ghajini-brings-in-big-money.htm -- regards, Vithur

i dont know who reviewed this. comparing HJ with arrnna. only people dont know anything on music will do that. hj has done good but ARR has done his job well in all the areas. If many people(so called fans) are telling that BGM is not good, then peopel from outside will tell something nonsense. A critic should be perfect in giving his views esp. fans of ARR. Of course Ghajini BGM's are less impressive than jaane tu and sakkarakatti, it is not bad and not less than tamil version. Dont compare and tell rubbish about the music hereafter.telling nonsense about ARR's music esp. by our fans has increased a lot now-a-days. go and hear the saxophone part in Bekha song, it will tell about ARR. Her Hindi is not up to the mark… most importantly her dialogue delivery is not even close to what she did in Tamil. These days we get loads of Tamil and Telugu movies dubbed in Hindi… have you heard them speak? They sound ridiculous… I wonder why they don't get professional native Hindi dubbing artists. Coming back to Asin, she sounds like them. Hope she improves on that in her upcoming movie London Dreams. Anyways, her acting is strictly average. Jiah Khan has a small role to play, and she looks as plastic as she was in Nishabd. Sometimes such things work because the opposite actor (Aamir Khan) gets the brownie points. Poor girl does not even get to feature in a full length item number. The song 'Lattoo' starts… within a minute the focus shifts to action and the song is lost. Pradeep Rawat, who also played the villain in Tamil version, is perfect. A.R. Murugadoss should stick to Tamil movies because such movies won't work in Bollywood. There are too many loopholes in his direction. Ghajini is getting so much buzz just because it stars Aamir Khan. Another disappointment came in the form of A R Rahman. I expected a lot from the maestro, but he gave some very ordinary tracks. The original version's music (composed by Harris Jayaraj) sounds like a classic comparing to this. The movie belongs to the action genre and it scores in that department… thanks to Aamir Khan's Hulk look and rage. Parents should take extra caution taking their kids to watch the movie, because it has some gruesome violence. [arr] GHAJINI is all set to be Indias first 100 crore film
Yes, GHAJINI is all set to be India's first 100 crore film == By Joginder Tuteja While it's obvious by now that GHAJINI would break the opening record (currently held by SINGH IS KINNG that made 44 crores at the end of the first week), talks have steered towards a speculation if at the end of it's run, this Aamir Khan starrer would go on to be country's first film to net 100 crores. Well to put this speculation to rest, after observing the GHAJINI mania closely for the last 10 days, I can safely presume that we are indeed looking at a 100 crores milestone being comfortably crossed. If one looks at the figures pouring in, it isn't rocket science actually to be able to deduce such momentous figure for the film. Wednesday preview shows, Thursday's limited shows and Friday's full fledged release (with RAB NE BANA DI JODI and other films in the running vacating some shows after Thursday) have brought in a mind boggling 20 crores already (this number could go up to 22 crores pending confirmation). With better collections over Saturday and Sunday, considering the fact that advance booking has already broken records all over), the 44 crores first week record of SINGH IS KINNG is all set to be broken by GHAJINI in it's weekend itself. Even with a 50% fall in collections on the weekdays (which is on the higher side though considering this is a festive season all the way into the New Year and quite a few patrons are already on a vacation mood), 20 crores more are comfortably expected to be added on between Monday to Thursday. Add them all up and first week of GHAJINI could well be heading towards the 65 crores mark. Conservatively speaking, with a fall steeper than 50%, 60 crores first week is given. With two more open weeks to follow before the release of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA (on 16th January), it is inevitable that GHAJINI would go on to add at least 40 crores more. Though probability is that this number would be achieved in the fortnight to come at least, even in the worst case scenario we are looking at 100 crores milestone being comfortably met before the film's run comes to an end. Aamir Khan has done it. And he has done it in a BIG way! http://www.naachgaana.com/2008/12/27/yes-ghajini-is-all-set-to-be- indias-first-100-crore-film/

[arr] ghajini review - by a foreigner (ARR the biggest pull)
First up, the music's by A.R. Rahman, and for all the good publicity he's getting for his work on Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, I just had to experience yet another piece of his musical magic on a film, besides one that I've watched much earlier this year in Jodhaa Akbar. One just cannot imagine how his musical talent will be put to good use in a film which looks and feels like Memento, and this being the next best thing. Guzarish is a track used in the trailer, and it is currently my new ear worm. Yes, Bollywood's version naturally comes with built-in song and dance, which for once I would have thought looked quite out of place in the movie, if not for A.R. Rahman's score and music. http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/review-of-ghajini/ Review of GHAJINIPosted by Stefanhttp://twitchfilm.net/site/authors/Stefan/ at 7:32am.Posted in Film DVD Reviewshttp://twitchfilm.net/site/archive/film-dvd-reviews/ , Thriller http://twitchfilm.net/site/categories/category/thriller/, Drama http://twitchfilm.net/site/categories/category/drama/, Actionhttp://twitchfilm.net/site/categories/category/action/ , Asia http://twitchfilm.net/site/categories/category/asia/. The tattoos on the body, the Polaroid snaps, the notes scattered around the house, and the smoking gun evidence? Short term memory loss, happening every 15 minutes. If this doesn't seem like Christopher Nolan's masterpiece Memento, then I don't know what does. Written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss, I don't see much of a nod of acknowledgement to Nolan's work, and falls back on the fact that this is a Hindi remake of Murugadoss' own Tamil movie of the same name Ghajini, produced in 2005 (Nolan's was in 2000), which joins the ranks of films having their titles named after the chief villain. In any case this isn't the first time that we see very obvious similarities in premise and characters being adopted for Bollywood's own productions, and the shot-in-Singapore Krrish comes to mind as well, as they had the entire setting of John Woo's Paycheck incorporated into that film. But of course in any version some merits could be found, but I believe some form of acknowledgement would be in order, other than, in this case, a quick flash of a very wordy disclaimer aboutGhajini being gleaned from various short stories and material (and another paragraph which I missed given the fine print, and short duration on screen, but I'm pretty sure no mention of Memento). Well, there are some reasons why I chose to watch this. Another reason is of course, Aamir Khan. Yet another prolific actor with a penchant for perfection, it was interesting to see how his take on the protagonist's short term memory loss, would rival that of Guy Pearce's. I'm embarrassed to say I've only seen him in action in Lagaan, so this would be yet another opportunity to witness his ability which can be measured against a benchmark. But don't expect the same though, because Pearce's version was more of a thinking man who questions and second guesses himself, while Khan's version was in two parts to serve the story, one as a raging hulk monster who tears through his opponents with savage violence fueled by anger and hatred, coupled with the hurt he experienced and recalled (Hulk producers take note, in case Edward Norton decides against any more sequels, look in the direction of Aamir Khan), while the other as mild-mannered Sanjay Singhania, CEO of a telecommunications company in Mumbai. Yes, Bollywood's version naturally comes with built-in song and dance, which for once I would have thought looked quite out of place in the movie, if not for A.R. Rahman's score and music. While half of the movie might be seen as a copy of Memento's premise and character, the other half served more to allow the audience to share the pain with Sanjay. Nolan's version had you experience the frustrating condition of the syndrome through its narrative presentation, but this one junks the reverse chronology, and plays it out flat and builds a rich back story for Sanjay, so much so that you'll root for him as he goes on his rampage of revenge. You'll find yourself entrenched in the romance between Sanjay and his lady love Kalpana (the stunning Asin Thottumkal, who reprises her role from the 2005 version as well), who's a model awaiting her big break, and a girl with a genuinely good heart. The plot never fails to give her numerous moments to showcase her good nature, and it's no surprise why anyone would not fall in love

[arr] Ghajini is a dumb film that celebrates its dumbness - Rajeev Masand
Plays it safe..doesnt mentions anything about the music... He gives it 3/5 http://ibnlive.in.com/news/masands-verdict-ghajini-is-dumb-and-celebrates-it/81344-8.html Cast: Aamir Khan, Asin, Jiah Khan Director: AR Murgadoss Watching him in Ghajini, I don't think I've seen Aamir Khan having this much fun as an actor in a long time. It's an old-fashioned entertainer with a half-convincing plot, packed with enough gratuitous violence to qualify as a B-movie really; and like the most popular B-movies ever, the biggest strength of Ghajini lies in the fact that it's a fast-moving roller-coaster ride that seldom gives you a moment to stop and think how stupid it might actually be. In a premise clearly inspired by Christopher Nolan's Memento, Aamir Khan plays Sanjay Singhania, a hot-shot industrialist who turns into an obsessed killing machine dedicated to tracking down his girlfriend's killer. Having been hit on the head with an iron rod, he suffers from short-term memory loss and can't remember anything for longer than 15 minutes; as a result he must tattoo his body with instructions that will lead him to his prey. Abandoning Memento's fantastic non-linear narrative and opting for the more conventional flashback device, writer-director AR Murgadoss throws in an engaging back-story in the form of leading lady Asin (playing smalltime model Kalpana) and a love story brimming with originality and the kind of gentleness that you don't see at the movies anymore. It's a romance that takes you by surprise, and to an extent puts the film's intense action into perspective too. Faithful remake of the director's Tamil blockbuster, Ghajini is over-the-top and exaggerated in its comedy, its action and its drama, but what irks you most are the half-dozen or so creative liberties and coincidences that the makers resort to, in order to bail themselves out of tricky screenplay situations. Here's a little sample - you're expected to believe that Sanjay Singhania is a well-known millionaire industrialist, and yet no one has seen him in pictures or in person. Logical loopholes like these would be the albatross of any half-decent film, but Ghajini works despite its shortcomings because it's a reliably dumb film that is unpretentious in its intentions. Unlike many dumb films that take themselves way too seriously, Ghajini is a dumb film that celebrates its dumbness. Of course much of the film's appeal lies in watching leading man Aamir Khan approach his role with an unmatched fervor. Whether it's beefing up for the part, or oozing that schoolboy charm, or then the manner in which he explodes in rage each time he's reminded of Kalpana's brutal death, you can't take your eyes off the screen when he's up there. He finds a worthy nemesis in Pradeep Rawat who plays bad guy Ghajini, your stereoptypical 80s Bollywood villain, complete with gold chains, white shoes and menacing sneer. Rawat is decidedly loathsome, especially in the scene in which he enjoys watching our hero writhe helplessly as he offs his girlfriend in front of his eyes. At the emotional heart of the film is Tamil actress Asin making her Bollywood debut as the mischievous, happy-go-lucky Kalpana, who benefits from a superbly-written character that is hard to get out of your head even when the film's ended. Asin has undeniable screen presence and such joie de vivre that you can immediately relate with the hero's anguish over losing her. In a thankfully small role as the medical student who helps our hero achieve his goal is Jiah Khan who has a screechy voice and a forgettable presence. Ghajini isn't a particularly good film, but entertainment it delivers by the bucketful. At a running time of 3 hours, the film seldom drags and therein lies its victory. For the Singh Is Kinng generation, here's another time pass entertainer. I'm going with three out of five for director A R Murgadoss' Ghajini, this is Aamir Khan's way of telling us, 'Anything that Shah Rukh or Akshay can do, I can do just as well.' Watch it for the ride. Rating: 3 / 5 (Good)

[ARR] Ghajini is good.....very good
Watched the first show. Bottom Line: You will love it if you havent watched the original in tamil. Its tamil ditto , except for the last 20 mins. And has been improvised. Music: ARR as usual scores well. As usual plays around with the main themes. But what struck me is the way uses behka mein bekha tune for tragical scenes. I thought he would use Kaise Mujhe. He uses the violin to play behka, which then struck me that the tune is so similar to Nathiye (Rythm). Kaise Mujhe is used in two halves. There is so much happening on screen that its hard to concentrate on the music. Got to see it again :P But there are a few scenes though when you feel that surya was better . A must watch nevertheless.

Fully Agree with Gomzy. Same thoughts. Liked th way AR has used Bekha. Was expecting some more stylish BGMs from him for Amir gets down the flight. As it would have matched very wel with the BMW Mercedez Cars in the scene The Director's influence has been much , as the scenes are just the same as the Tamil ones, except for the ending. At times, it makes me wonder, if the audience who are seeing the Hindi movie as the original one would be able to understand. The screenplay has been very fast The Tamil Movie was very heavy and made me feel pained, where as the Hindi Ghajini was more on a lighter note, may because of the different ending Gomzy... We share the same thoughts da,. Happy to know that. On Thu, Dec 25, 2008 at 4:37 PM, Gomzy™ gomtesh.upad...@gmail.com wrote: Watched the first show. [arr] Ghajini Music Review | 2 / 5 !!
Ghajini, AR RahmanT-Series It may be that one of Bollywood’s most respected actors, Aamir Khan, known for his studious portrayal of characters and his keen eye for original scripts, has finally been influenced by Hollywood. Ghajini is the story of a man who wakes up to find his girlfriend dead and his short-term memory frayed. So, like Guy Pearce in Memento, he takes to tattooing questions and notes on himself to figure it all out. The film has been afforded the best of Bollywood talent when it comes to the soundtrack, however. Unfortunately, in spite of the music director AR Rahman and singers such as Sonu Nigam it is at best soft, bearable, sincere but mediocre. That is not to say the music is bad. Given the amount of uninspired scores the industry churns out every week, Sonu Nigam’s haunting rendition of Guzarish with Javed Ali is lovely. Shreya Ghoshal’s playful take on Latoo (A Dazed State) is fun with Rahman turning to a mix of tango to deliver a danceable track on the album. Ghajini is Rahman’s fourth soundtrack release this year, and for a man who is mostly known as a musical prodigy, this has been a fantastic year, with releases such as Jodhaa Akbar and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, which have set musical benchmarks. But Ghajini, with all its promise, fails to deliver just the right emotional slant that is needed for a film with so much energy and acting prowess. sbhattacha...@thenational.ae http://www.thenational.ae/article/20081224/ART/452995397/1007/rss Krish. RE: [ARR]Ghajini banned in Tamil Nadu by HC
When I was watching NDTV yesterday I thought the stay order is worldwide and not just for TN. What the hell this producer has been waiting for till the last minute? This movie has been in the making for a long time. If the court is meeting only after New Year then it will be a 2009 release, isn't it? A.R. Rahman's music is top notch. At least three numbers have the unmistakable stamp of a genius -- 'Guzarish', 'Behka' and 'Kaise Mujhe'. Ravi Chandran's cinematography is stunning. The film bears a stylish look all through. The action sequences are brilliantly executed. The Hindi moviegoers haven't seen such scenes ever. --- The wait is finally over! An Aamir Khan film is nothing short of an event. The supremely talented actor acts in one film a year and no two films are ever identical in terms of plotline. No wonder then that you await an Aamir starrer with bated breath. GHAJINI, the Tamil version, has been a massive hit and so was its dubbed Telugu version. Will the Hindi adaptation live up to the humungous expectations? The hype is unmatched and you expect no less than a present-day masterpiece. Now the good news: GHAJINI demonstrates how strong film-making can enhance and elevate an already solid concept. GHAJINI is a revenge saga, one ingredient that has been the staple diet of Hindi films since time immemorial. It is a powerful film. It has the power to sweep you off your feet from the word 'go'. It has a riveting story, which has been told with flourish by director A.R. Murugadoss. And, of course, it has a knockout performance by Aamir Khan. If at all there's a shred of doubt whether Aamir is The Best in the business, all you've got to do is check out GHAJINI. dapMgr.enableACB(GE300,false); dapMgr.renderAd(GE300,PG=IFMGE3AP=1089,300,250); Flaws any? Running time [almost 3 hours]? Not at all! There's so much happening in every scene and the screenplay is so gripping that you don't feel the need to look at the auditorium ceiling or at your watch at brief intervals. You aren't restless. As moviegoers, we've watched countless good versus evil fares over the years and although GHAJINI belongs to the same family, not once does it take the beaten track. The story has been told differently and most importantly, the story offers so many twists-n-turns that you just can't guess what would unfold next. Is it violent? It is, at times, but the violence here is justified. In fact, every time the protagonist bashes up the evil-doers, you clap and root for him. The climax is jaw-dropping -- dissimilar from the original, but it's an out of the world experience nonetheless. To sum up, GHAJINI is commercial Hindi cinema at its best. The film has 'Hit' written all over it. Let me put it this way: Cancel whatever you're doing today and go watch GHAJINI instead. Aamir Khan is suffering from acute short-term memory loss set off by the violent murder of his girlfriend Asin. He's got to work around this handicap, but with methodical and meticulous determination. Aamir etches a path of clues that lead him on his road. To aid him in his quest, he carries around a sheaf of Polaroids and when he is really sure of a piece of information, he has it tattooed on his body, which stands in for the damaged part of his mind. His indelibly marked torso is the repository of his grief, his rage and his reason to go on living. Any more revelation would do gross injustice to the film and to its viewer. First things first! GHAJINI is not MEMENTO. There're minor similarities, but GHAJINI takes a completely different route to tell its story. Director A.R. Murugadoss tells this one differently. It starts off with what happens in the past, comes to the present-day, goes back in time again and returns to the contemporary again. This is a breathless, exciting story, heart-breaking and exhilarating at the same time. Hindi movies have often depicted people suffering from amnesia/memory loss, but GHAJINI is poles apart because the protagonist recalls events only for 15 minutes. The story is its USP, without a doubt. But what adds sheen and glory to the story is Aamir's portrayal of a man suffering from short-term memory loss. Aamir hardly speaks. In fact, the leading lady [Asin] speaks more than Aamir in the film. But Aamir speaks volumes with his eyes, he conveys whatever has to be conveyed through his body language, he says it all with his facial expressions and that only makes GHAJINI a memorable, never-seen-before experience. Director A.R. Murugadoss deserves brownie points for not just coming up with an interesting story, but also presenting it [refreshingly] differently. The storyteller balances the light moments and the ones demanding intensity with expertise. There's dum in every sequence. Even if the director has to depict violence, he doesn't resort to blood-n-gore or knives-swords-pistols for effect. Aamir delivers his career-best performance. In the first place, it requires courage and maturity to name the film after the villain. Knowing how egoistic our stars are, something like this is next to impossible in Hindi films. A lot has been said and written about
[arr] Ghajini music unconventional, but a sure hit
Music Director: AR Rahman Lyricist: Prasoon Joshi Singers: Benny Dayal, Shreya Ghoshal, Suzanne, Sonu Nigam, Karthik, Javed Ali Rating: ***1/2 This has been an eventful year for music maestro AR Rahman with an endless list of his albums being released and most of them hitting bull's eye. Ghajini is no exception. Ghajini not only boasts of Rahman's music but also has one of the finest lyricists, Prasoon Joshi, providing the poetic words to go with the tunes. Rahman has surely struck a chord with audiences in this movie, which has already made headlines for Aamir's look. The first song Ghajini is already being hummed by many. A romantic track, this piece is slightly unconventional in terms of its musical arrangements. Javed Ali does not disappoint his mentor Rahman and pleases listeners with his superb rendition. What makes it better is Sonu Nigam's humming right at the beginning and Prasoon Joshi's perfect lyrics. This one is a chartbuster for sure. Aye Bachchu doesn't seem to come from Rahman's house of music. But this fun number should get people on the dance floor. Suzanne's rendition is good, but the lyrics don't impress as they aren't what one would expect from Prasoon Joshi. Now this one's surely going to be a hit with music buffs. Rahman lives up to his name with Kaise Mujhe, a romantic ballad. The music has been kept slow and serene while the vocals by Benny Dayal and Shreya Ghoshal are electric. The use of the sitar gives the track an edge and the piano makes the romantic musical more attractive. And Rahman tops it by belting out an instrumental version as well! Behka is also out on the small screen and is known for Aamir sporting different looks. The track is very unconventional and distinctive courtesy Rahman. Karthik brings a youthful and fun feel to the track with his voice, while Rahman adds his bit to pep up with the help of slight rock and jazz overtones. The overall package is interesting. Another number that sounds very unlike Rahman is Latoo. There are quite a few interesting yet unlikely things about this piece. First, Shreya Ghoshal, who has rarely lent her voice for a song of this genre. She, nevertheless, does an above average job. Second, Rahman hardly composes songs of this kind and his stamp is missing here. Though Prasoon Joshi's lyrics are nice, his heart doesn't seem to have been in it while he penned them. While the Ghajini album is fabulous, one cannot call it brilliant as certain songs don't live up to Rahman's earlier works. But his expertise and the superb vocals make up for it. The entire team has worked well and this clearly shows in the album. http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/StoryPage.aspx?sectionName=HomePageid=1c5d6974-2400-448e-8f80-1f7b3a35a466MatchID1=4856TeamID1=6TeamID2=2MatchType1=1SeriesID1=1223MatchID2=4812TeamID3=25TeamID4=16MatchType2=2SeriesID2=1211PrimaryID=4856Headline=Music+Review:+EMGhajini/EM

More details here http://movies.ndtv.com/newstory.asp?section=Moviesid=ENTEN20080077518 If you've already booked your tickets for Aamir Khan's much awaited film * Ghajini*, which was to release this Christmas, you might just be disappointed. The all-India release of the film has been stayed by the Madras High Court. KBC Pictures had recently filed a suit in the High Court against the makers of the film, saying that KBC Pictures have got the rights for the remake from the original producer. The producers of Aamir Khan starrer *Ghajini*, who woke up to the court summons Monday, have been accused of infringement of KBC Pictures' copyright. KBC Pictures is producing a film titled *Kahani Ghajini Ki*, which has an Amitabh Bachchan lookalike in the lead. [arr] Ghajini blogger review
a reviewer whose words I always look forward to... http://trublurahmaniac.blogspot.com/2008/12/ghajini-opening-of-kaise-mujhe-is.html Ghajini The opening of *Kaise Mujhe* is beautiful, when it opens you think you're getting a dance nhttp://3.bp.blogspot.com/_o9SPi0Rbc8E/ST2Pj8Rk7II/ACA/aznUDCSNqHI/s1600-h/2h6vf2t.jpgumber but it turns into this lilting piece with my latest favorite Benny Dayal who does a convincing job. Shreya Ghoshal, as usual, is amazing. Dayal's high notes could have been a little better, but I honestly think if men didn't sing so high, then women wouldn't be forced to shriek. What is it with Indian music and considering women who can hold a high pitch, good singers. I had a friend once say that the only problem with most Indian music is that the women are singing so high that it gave her the same feeling that she gets when she hears nails being run down a blackboard. And I agree with her! Wholeheartedly! If men would sing at a lower pitch women would sound normal. As much as the instrumental version is beautiful, I think ARR should do instrumentals like he did for Bombay(*Bombay Theme*). I'd rather hear something other than the instrumental of a song from the same movie. *Guzarish*, I think someone with a stronger voice would have been better. Sonu Nigam sounds great, doing what he does best, crooning. The song has ARR written all over it! Javed Ali….honestly sounds a little lackluster, like he's just going through the motions. This song has a strong Enigma feel. I like the laid back feel to the song. I'm not sure I care for the lyrics however. *Bas ek haan ki guzarish…Phir honge khushiyon ki baarish….chanda, aasmaan, baadhal, no chein*…..very cliche! It feels like he ran out of lyrics and added an extra *paas* here and there. Very hummable however. Good one. Talk about experimentation. *Behka* is all that and more. It starts out innocently enough. Karthik is just A-mazing in this one! I wasn't so sure about this one when I heard it the first time. It sounded like the cd whttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_o9SPi0Rbc8E/ST89G0i8nwI/ACI/im4Q_Kc8qDE/s1600-h/07.gifas skipping at that section where Karthik's voice skips. I love the way he actually sounds like Aamir Khan in his stress on certain words. The sax interludes and other bits in this song are mind-blowing! This song gives me goose-bumps every time I hear the crescendo between 2:13 and 2:30. Between the drums and the sax at this point I'm in heaven. The sax literally follows the voice, throughout the song. And of course, the little treasures that ARR always hides in his songs keep popping up each time I listen to the song. It's like listening to a new song each time I play it on different speakers. Love the end. It must be obvious by now that this one is my favorite in this album. The ones that I don't get when I listen to the first time are the ones that end up being my favorites. It had a *Main Aisa Kyun Hoon* feel to it. Like the tone of the song was similar. That's one step for man and a giant leap for mankind….Houston, the eagle has landed. What the heck?!!! What on earth does it have to do with being * Lattoo* on your *yaar*? Is Aamir supposed to be playing Neil Armstrong? Last I heard he was playing a rich businessman called Sanjay Ramaswamy. *Mazari Mazara Zimbabwe?* Lyrics! I disagree with the general opinion that Ghoshal should only be singing lilters. I loved her singing in this one. It was different and suited her just fine. I think she should do more of the same. I didn't care too much for the constant repetition of *yaara yaara yaar aaya mera*. *Aye Bachoo*….nothing really stood out as exceedingly good or bad. Suzanne D'Mello's same gal who sang for Slumdog Millionaire. Now that's a movie worth watching. But in my opinion, the music trumps all. I broke out in goosebumps several times during the movie…..but more on that later. D'Mello's done a good job. Fresh sounding I like the electric guitar work, and as always the ARR layering. I don't know if the songs occur in the same sequence and time in this movie as they did in the original Ghajini. When the songs from the original released, they were a big hit, I listened to them fairly often. I think only *Oru Maalai* and *Suttum Vizhi* were actually good. Of course that goes with Surya and the red clothes in my head. He was super cute, which may be why they were so popular. Drawing a parallel between the songs is not a very good idea but inevitable. Let's see how they're picturized. I just might watch this movie! -- -A http://viewsnmuse.blogspot.com

[arr] Ghajini : The tale of two songs | Semi ARR
The tale of two songs A reputed advertisement film maker was roped in by Aamir Khan to direct two songs in his forthcoming movie 'Ghajini'. The two tracks- 'Aye Bachoo' and 'Lattoo' were included as Aamir felt that the movie with all its raw and powerful action scenes need to be mellowed down with some groovy music. Thus Ravi Udyawar who had worked before with the star for the Samsung 'Next is What?' campaign was selected as the right man to do the job after being recommended by ace cinematographer Ravi K Chandran who knows his style of working well and the producers getting fully satisfied after watching the various commercials that he had made before including the ones for Chevrolet and Limca. [arr] Ghajini music - ARR on overdrive, no holds barred
http://www.masala.com/8811-music-of-ghajini A.R. Rahman on overdrive, no holds barred by Vishal Oberoi How does he do it? Each and every time, A.R. Rahman has the ability to bring forth a product that is not only unusual but also cutting-edge and contagious, even though it may not seem so at first listen. Ghajini oozes with a level of musical maturity that is far ahead of its time. With unique formats and blended sounds, it's almost as if Rahman has created a genre of his own. Aye Bachchu is a power-track with a compelling female lead by Suzanne (reminiscent of some of Rahman's classics like Chandralekha). It has a rock-ish arrangement, similar in sound to ARR's work on Rang De Basanti, and has a unique energy to it. Behka is a classic example of the way Rahman's music grows on you. The lyrical format of the verse is so outlandish that it can seem almost bizarre at first listen. But by the second listen, one is humming and singing along with it. This is the sign of ARR's extreme confidence in his music, as he is able to comfortably add such unconventional elements to his music in the effort to create a whole new convention. Guzarish has you hooked as soon as the opening mandolin notes and rhythm unfold. Javed Ali's tender vocals give character to the song. Along with Kaise Mujhe, these two tracks are haunting and smooth, which give Ghajini a well-rounded spirit. Shreya Ghoshal handles Latoo with finesse. The track starts off with random speeches from space missions (similar to the usage of spoken samples on the Theme of Daud), and develops into a Latino-Hip/Hop inspired dance track, which is extremely catchy. Balance sheet: Ekdum Hatke. That's the best and only way to put it. Ghajini is Rahman on overdrive, no holds barred. Enjoy the ride!

[arr] ghajini audio sales
does anyone know how ghajini is doing in terms of audio sales?
[arr] 'Ghajini' to arrive earlier
'Ghajini' to arrive earlier Post 26/11, film business has been hit hard. Most cineplexes are running to negligible occupancy and in some instances, the management has been forced to call off shows due to lack of audiences. Perhaps this may've prompted people to assume that Aamir Khan's keenly anticipated ‘Ghajini’, which is confirmed for Thursday, 25th December, might get pushed to the New Year. But it's not true! On the contrary, ‘Ghajini’ producer Madhu Mantena says that the film will arrive earlier. Till now, the film was slated for release on Thursday, 25th December, but the makers have decided to release it on Wednesday, 24th December night. We're organising paid previews across the country on Wednesday night, which means we're releasing ‘Ghajini’ a day earlier, Madhu tells me. Sure, the release date of ‘Ghajini’ has been altered. It's Wednesday, not Thursday!! http://www.screenindia.com/news/--Ghajini---to-arrive-earlier/396655/ Krish. Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/invite/
[arr] Ghajini was shot in sync sound - Asin ( SEMI ARR )
Hot property Southern import Asin comes clean on controversial reports about her equation with Ghajini hero Aamir Khan. *What kind of response have you been getting after the promos of Ghajini?* The responses have been very good. People are now waiting for the film to release. A debut opposite Aamir Khan is an absolute dream-come-true. Though I have done many films down South, this is like a baby step for me. Not only the film is my first venture with a superstar, it is being directed by Murugadoss and has music is by A R Rahman. It is a dream team. *How comfortable are you with Hindi?* Quite comfortable. Though I have been born and brought up in Kerala, I have gone to a Naval Indian school where I have been exposed to Hindi. Many of my teachers were North Indians, so since childhood I have been speaking the language. Ghajini was shot in sync sound, and thankfully my Hindi was good, I had no problems. *A heroine of an Aamir starrer isn't left with much to do in the film. What is your take on that?* But as Aamir's heroine I am sure I will get fabulous exposure both nationally and internationally. *There were reports that before filming a romantic scene, Aamir went on long walks with you.* (Cuts in) I don't know from where such reports originate. I was comfortable doing all types of scenes with him. *Weren't you upset with your hero for not letting you speak to the press?* That's absolutely untrue. I was completely shocked when I read this report. *Didn't you want to clarify your stance then?* As I said, initially I was surprised. After that I laughed it off. *So, how was it working with the perfectionist Aamir?* Oh, he's a very supportive and encouraging co-star. The media refers to him as a perfectionist in the negative sense, but I find him absolutely dedicated, passionate and focussed on his work. At the same time, he is extremely down-to-earth without any airs about him. He lets the director be the captain of the ship. *Having been part of the Tamil version of Ghajini, what difference do you find between the two heroes? * Both of them have brought their own techniques to the role. Surya has portrayed it in a different way. However, I think we should wait for the film to release before discussing this further. *Did you feel a sense of deja vu while performing as you had been there, done that?* Character-wise, there isn't anything different between the two. In both the versions, my name is Kalpana, a girl from a lower-middle class family. She is a struggler in an ad firm, one of the model types who to wants to make it big in the ad industry. Though the character is the same, shooting for the film was a new experience because we have made a few changes in the climax, tweaked it a bit and added new action scenes. Also, except for the director, the entire technical crew was new for me. *Kalpana doesn't seem glamourous...* No, she is not at all glamourous. A girl-next-door type, she is completely a non-Bollywood kind of a heroine. But the role is so good that I didn't think twice about doing it. *You star in London Dreams opposite Salman Khan. What would you say is the difference between the two Khans?* On the contrary, I find a lot of similarities between the two. Both of them are cool to work with, only Salman is more spontaneous. Even Ajay Devgan is a pucca professional. He is quite a prankster and the three of us had a great time. In fact, it was one of my best outdoor shoots. *We heard you had signed a film with Akshay Kumar?* No. Right now, I have only London Dreams. *Are you doing any South films or are you looking at establishing yourself in Bollywood first?* I would like to do films that excite me. Language is not a barrier. Right now, I haven't signed any films in the South, though. My immediate commitment is to London Dreams, for which we will be shooting in Mumbai. A major portion of the film has already been shot and only a few scenes and songs are remaining. *You are endorsing many brands from Colgate to Tanishq?* Yes, so far I have endorsed around 60 brands. I started my career with ads. And films were a natural progression. Besides the Colgate commercial, which I have shot with Saif Ali Khan, I had done the Miranda ad with Zayed Khan. Soon, I will be shooting for a Tata Sky ad too. *With Aamir Khan?* (Laughs) I don't know. http://www.screenindia.com/news/Hot-property/396665/ -- regards, Vithur
[arr] Ghajini was a difficult album to write: Prasoon Joshi
Ghajini was a difficult album to write: Prasoon Joshi Ace lyricist Prasoon Joshi is the man behind the soulful romantic lyrics of Guzarish from Ghajini. He talks about Ghajini, working with legends like Aamir and Rahman and the recent terror attacks in Bombay. Tell us something about Ghajini's music. All the songs are different from each other. Every single song is very good and close to my heart. There is a love song, a fight song, a sad song and a fun song. I guess Rahman has done a wonderful job again. It's completely different from our previous projects like Rang De Basanti and it was rather hard to make also. Ghajini is a remake of a South Indian film, does the music also sound like the music of that film? No, not at all! The music is totally different from the original film and has nothing to do with it. Which is your favorite Ghajini song? 'Behka' is my favorite because none of the lyricists whom Rahman had approached were ready to write the song. It was quite difficult to write it so it is close to my heart. You have been in Aamir Khan's camp since a long time. So do you choose the projects because of Aamir or do you read the scripts? To a certain extent, it is because of Aamir and it is a mix of both professionalism and friendship. He is a perfectionist and chooses good movies and good scripts so we have a lot of faith in him. How was it working with A.R.Rahman? What have you learnt from him? Rahman is a chilled out friend. We have worked in many films together. Now the dosti has become so strong that sometimes I write the lyrics first and he composes a tune after that or he composes a tune and I fit in the lyrics. We cannot meet daily but we share a great rapport and mutual understanding. I feel at home while working with Rahman. You have written a beautiful poem called Iss Baar Nahin on the Mumbai blasts. Where were you and what was going through your mind at the time the blasts took place? I was in Chennai when the blasts happened. When I saw it first, I thought some gang-wars were taking place. But later on we came to know that it was a terror attack. On the very next day I took a flight back to Mumbai and was deeply saddened by what was happening. Some people come inside our country and damage our historical monument and kill our people. I mean the security was so bad. Do you think the media should boycott Pakistani artists now? No, why should we punish non-criminals? What have they done? Terror attacks have happened in Pakistan also and people have died there too. It is not Pakistani civilians who killed our Indians. It's the terrorist who did it. We should tighten our security, that's it. We need some strict laws against terrorists.

Ghajini Songs Kaise Mujhe (Instrumental)/Kaise Mujhe - Benny Dayal, Shreya Goshal From being a boring song after the first listening, this song has gone on to become what I would call a haunting melody, the kind of song that lingers in your mind long after you have stopped listening to it and transforms you to a sort of tranquil state. At least that’s what it has done to me. But, it wasn’t the vocal, but the instrumental version, that did that to me. The flute parts are so beautiful! I started enjoying the vocal version only after the instrumental version had me mesmerized by it. Aye Bachchoo – Suzanne This song is in complete contrast to Kaise Mujhe. I liked it instantly the first time I listened to it. Makes you want to increase the volume, sit back, tap your feet and enjoy. Guzarish - Javed Ali, Sonu Nigam The humming in this song that was there in the first trailer of this movie had me hooked to it big time that there have been days when I have spent something like half an hour or so listening to just the trailer on a loop! I was very eagerly waiting for the audio of Ghajini to release soon just for listening to this song. After listening to the full song, the humming parts are the ones that I still find to be the best part of the song. Sonu Nigam rocks! Behka – Karthik I am listening to it on repeat mode now. Excellent song! Karthik has sung it really well. I like the way the music of Guzarish has been beautifully blended in between in this song. Latoo - Shreya Goshal backing/additional vocal by many more singers Super song! All the singers are amazing in this song! I just loved the Yaar Yaar Yaar Mera Yaar parts and the transition from yaar yaar to O Palak Kyun. With yet another treat from Rahman for us Rahmaniacs this year, 2008 is always going to remain a year that we Rahmaniacs will fondly remember for years to come. Thank you, Rahman! http://aparna-a.com/2008/11/25/ghajini-songs/
[arr] Ghajini audio review - Independent reviewer
Song 1 - Guzarish song Nice start is how a song initially gets through into audience's heart. It walks directly through straight and later on it becomes a nostalgia. This particular song is of that type. The way Sonu Nigam hums for initially and in the background and in the end, sets the pitch for Javed Ali. The little inexperienced Javed Ali hands the baton from where Sonu starts and handles it nicely till the end. There is no much scope for Sonu here, but without that emphatic start and the end the song would feel soulless. A.R.Rahman's new found singer Javed Ali completely steals the show with this song. This flag bearer song is rightly mixed with proportions of melodic beats, mandolin (by Seenu), and all other instrumentation. No flaws at all. Prasoon Joshi's lyrics also starts to haunt you once you are addicted to the song. Tu meri adhuri pyaas pyaas shows the zest and passion of love. Simply amazing song. Five stars for the song. Song 2 - Aye Bachu The song starts with a little disturbed or unclear vocal and by the time music starts it really bangs. It really bursts into a party mode, not fully though but yes in bits and pieces somewhere between. Suzanne hits the right chord and pace for the song. The pace of the song varies from stance to stance. There are at least three different pace a slower one while starting with lyrics Jhoom le jhoomjhama, it gets little more pace starting Halka sa nasha hai and reaches the maximum by Suno yaaron suno ek raaz gehra. The lyrics are also like flying and seductive. I personally liked the one stance starting with Halka sa nasha hai masti ki wine mein. But before getting to enjoy the song in full, it ends abruptly at 3:40 minutes. I had to listen to a second time to fulfil the missing part. Three stars for the song. Song 3 - Kaise Mujhe Benny Dayal and Shreya Ghoshal are the singers. But I would like to give a preference in the components first starting with Shreya, lyrics of the song, and then Benny. Do not know why I always tend to wait till 2:56 minutes to hear Shreya sing even though Benny does a decent job. I would have really loved a full version by Shreya also in the CD. She makes the song so smooth and soothing to ears that I feel emotionless for 1:30 minutes which she sings. But this does not in any way discredit Benny's good role. The lyrics of the song is clearly audible as it is a slow paced melodious song and thereby providing with you a sense of enjoying the song by singing with it. I recommend to hear this sound with the best of headphones available in the market. Five stars for the song. Song 4 - Behka Shake you body, baby. Yes this is what I thought and what I did while hearing this song, even for the first time. A peppy number, where Rahman is playing with all types of instruments (though I am not clear which all, and who cares if it entertains you). There appears to be some distorted music in background at pause of vocals, and it is clearly audible at start till 0:23 minutes. I initially imagined it to be some trouble with the music system I am playing, but later on was noticing the same distorted pitches hanging around with silent beats. Nice work. Can't imagine what all are getting into Rahman's kitty to make music. The Sax by Martin is also noticeable. Hear this song in a 5.1 system with a little bass over treble and dance (even if you do not know), and shake your body baby. Three and a half stars for the song. Song 5 - Latoo Ooh. Is this song sung by the same Shreya Ghoshal? I cannot believe this. Such an electrification in her voice and high tempo ed Shreya, simply unbelievable. I had to check and recheck the printed label on the CD, for any mistakes. There are no mistakes, and Shreya astonishes everyone. No one would have thought that Shreya can deliver such a note, and pitch. All praises for her. A sure hit among Shaadi's, this number is a reply by Rahman for the Jab we met item Mauja Three and a half stars for the song. Song 6 - Kaise Mujhe (Instrumental) Rahman's keyboard weaves magic along with Shreya's humming. They both makes you floating in the air. Therefrom flute (performed by Kiran) handles the track, and it is very interesting. But a full vocal number with Shreya singing would have made this album more appropriate. Three stars for the song. Overall album rating 4.5 stars At last, I would like to pay my homages to Late H.Sridhar, who has been a fitting companion to Music Director A.R.Rahman starting from Roja (also he has worked with Ilayaraja), till Ghajini. [arr] Ghajini review - Planetradiocity
http://www.planetradiocity.com/musicreporter/review.php?reviewid=175 Ghajini*Ghajini * *Artist: * *Lyricist:* Prasoon Joshi *Music Director: *A R Rahman *Genre: -* Bollywood *Label: -* -- For all those Christopher Nolan's Memento fans, Ghajini remains singularly the most awaited film, to see how the remake or borrowed or inspired theme has turned out. 'Memento' till today remains the most complex film made and Aamir Khan and the director Ramadoss has some really huge and tough shoes to walk in. But for the time being the music of the movie has hit the mark. Guzarish is already a hit. It has the right ingredients in the right amount to make it the most popular song of the album, not necessarily the best one. Javed Ali high on Jashn-e-Bahara success has done full justice to the easy and identifiable words of Prasoon Joshi and a simple but effective tune from A.R.Rahman. The song caters to almost all class of listeners and therefore remains the one most played. Both Rahman and Joshi come into their element with Aye Bachchu. Prasoon Joshi has used the mix of English and Hindi words in the correct context and more importantly in the right amount. Rahman has composed this fast track with much complex change of rhythms, tempo and scale. Though some heavy Guitar and electronic sounds are used extensively in the song it does not sound garish or over powering. But the song belongs to Suzanne who has sung it with a lot of energy and attitude. Benny Dayal sings the soft romantic duet with Shreya ghosal after the recent hit Tu meri dost hai, which otherwise would have been sung by his mentor Rahman. Kaise Mujhe is a perfect song for Rahman himself, from the melody to the scale, but having said that Benny Dayal does full justice to this wonderfully written song. In fact this is a much better sung and composed song than 'Tu meri Dost hai' from 'Yuvraj'. Karthik sings the most complex song of the album simply and smartly called 'Behka'. Difficult to slot it in one particular genre, Behka meshes different styles seamlessly. There are various ups and downs in the scales and tempo and the arrangement is ultra modern. Though the style has been attempted by Rahman earlier in many of his South Indian projects this is the first in Hindi cinema. Perhaps the most challenging job was done by the singer. The antra of the song is a challenge to any of the contemporary singers. Shreya sings the fast paced Lattoo, not at all suitable to her style, but does a fantastic job nevertheless. Her rendition of the song is smooth, not overdoing nor holding much back. The chorus lines, the arrangements and the continuous melody are all spot on. All the three songs Aye Bachchu, Behka and Lattoo are fast paced songs but all are different from each other in its treatment of the sound and words. Herein lays the strength of this album. Both Prasoon Joshi and Rahman has worked really well to create truly different and original work in its music and lyrics with new vocabulary. Though it is Guzarish that is topping the charts, the other four tracks are equally good or even better. The only worry is the complete contrast of the movie genre and music style. But that is the director's problem not the composer's. -- -A http://viewsnmuse.blogspot.com
[arr] Ghajini is full of energy
*Sonia Chopra * Not in a long, long time has one heard an album that's so alive and full of energy while containing its romantic melodic rhythm. The album encompasses essentially romantic and dancy tracks; but in both the varieties, the mood is joyful and upbeat. This is Rahman's fourth album in the year, and is on par with *Jodhaa-Akbar* and *Jaane Tu*'s music, albeit very different in temperament. You don't want to miss this one! * Guzarish * The first song in the album is a romantic one with accent given to its melodious tune. The star of the song is singer Javed Ali. After singing Jashn-e-Bahaara in Jodhaa Akbar and Tu Muskura in Yuvvraaj, it appears that Javed will be a permanent fixture with Rahman. And one hopes so, as he puts in a wonderfully spirited rendition of the song, infusing life into every word. (Sonu Nigam as the guest vocalist only hums, and has no words to perform.) The mood of Guzarish changes from being pensive to the middle upbeat portion. Words like Tu meri adhuri pyaas pyaas; tu aa gayee mann ko raas raas, are simple yet memorable. A wonderful, melodic start to the album. * Aye Bachchu* The song begins with the sound of claps and the distorted guitar. You're going to love this track if you let yourself go for it uninhibited. Singer Suzanne is untiringly feisty as she blazes through the song singing in her no-holds-barred style. The lyrics match the song's madness with words like Masti ki wine mein, jeene ka hai chaska. Suzzane's singing reminded me of the unaffected nature of my personal favorite Alainis Morissette. A great song that can be enjoyed again and again. * Kaise Mujhe* Benny Dayal (also sang for Jaane Tu…Na Jaane Na) and Shreya Ghoshal were last heard in Tu hi to meri dost hai from Yuvvraaj. In this album, they sing the third song -- Kaise Mujhe. The first half of the song is only Dayal singing and the mood is breezily romantic. His singing in some portions reminded one of AR Rahman's style. The piano bestows a calming effect. Towards the second half of the song, the familiar strains of Shreya Ghosal's voice appears. A pure, heart-felt mush song. * Behka* The star of the album, according to me. Bekha has been sung splendidly by Karthik. The music has several hooks and plays around with varied music genres like pop, hip-hop and jazz. You can hear the saxophone at one moment, the drums in another, and the violin as well. It makes for a wonderful medley that must be relished again and again. Lyrics are wonderful; but it's not so much the words as how they are rendered that sets the song apart. Bekha reminds one of the songs from Rangeela, especially Kya Kare (what a coincidence for both to be picturised on Aamir Khan). * Latoo * You double-check the cover to confirm the singer is indeed Shreya Ghosal. For this song is anything but vintage Ghosal – it's not romantic in the conventional sense and not mushy. Latoo is the kind of song you'd expect only Sunidhi Chauhan could do justice to. But Ghosal surprises the listeners with her upbeat rendition. A sure-hit at shaadis and parties, Latoo is a super-dancy number with the beats and all. Lyrics are fun with lines like pani mein pa who hai; dhani mein dha who hai. * Kaise Mujhe (Instrumental) * A calming end to the album, with wonderfully serene music. There are no lyrics, but Shreya Ghosal's aalap while singing the `theme tune' adds to the haunting quality of this piece. *Verdict: *Three-and-a-half stars http://sify.com/movies/bollywood/review.php?id=14812539ctid=5cid=2425 -- regards, Vithur

[arr] Ghajini is definitely Rahman’s strongest album this year
What seems like a wait that lasted decades is slowly coming to an end. As cinegoers await A.R. Murugadoss's *Ghajini* to the hit the screens, the music of the eagerly awaited remake of the Tamil blockbuster (of the same name) has hit the stores. Partially inspired by Chris Nolan's *Memento*, * Ghajini*'s Hindi remake stars Aamir Khan and South-Indian actress Asin, who reprises her original role again for the remake. While the original score was done by Harris Jayaraj (*Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein*), A. R. Rahman is sitting in the music director's chair this time round. Accompanying him is lyricist Prasoon Joshi (*Rang De Basanti* and *Taare Zameen Par*). *Ghajini*'s list of singers comprise of Javed Ali ('Jashn-e-Bahara' - *Jodha Akbar*), Benny Dayal ('Tu Meri Dost Hai' - *Yuvvraaj*), Shreya Ghosal, Suzy Q ('S for Sonia' - *Kidnap* and 'Mahiya' - *Awarapan*), Sonu Nigam (guest appearance) and South singing sensation Karthik who sings his first full-fledged Hindi number. *Ghajini* is produced under the banner of Allu Aravind and hits the screens on 25th December 2008. The album begins with the already popular *Guzarish* sung by Javed Ali. The track commences with guest vocals by Sonu Nigam who is heard through the song. While Javed Ali's rendition is effective, it lacks the emotion that the lyrics demand. Sonu's vocals on the other hand, although mere humming, enrich the song and makes one wonder if Sonu would have been a better choice to sing the number than Javed. The music has a soothing and relatively simple melody, almost mediocre. Lyrics have been penned well by Joshi, especially the verses in the middle that depict the protagonist's fears of losing his beloved through metaphors of dreams made of glass and heavy clouds threatening to obscure the moon. It seems that too much emphasis was put on rhyming words in the chorus, and this may have worked towards it mediocrity. Next is *Aye Bachchu*, a hip and rocking track, sung enthusiastically by Suzy Q. Her western style of singing suits this track to the T and unlike her peppy number 'S for Sonia' in *Kidnap*, 'Aye Bachchu' does not reek of pretentiousness. The music is fast-paced, full of cool attitude and oomph and transcends Rahman's previous so-called dance numbers ('Pappu' - *Jaane Tu* and 'Shano Shano' - *Yuvvraaj*). Prasoon Joshi pens an excellent track about seizing the moment and living life to the fullest. Most likely to be picturised on Jiah Khan, this track will go a long way if it is well choreographed. The album slows down with *Kaise Mujhe*, rendered by the Benny Dayal and Shreya Ghosal, who recently impressed audiences with 'Tu Meri Dost Hai' from *Yuvvraaj*. Benny gives a power-house performance for someone who has just debuted. His rendition mirrors the intense emotional lyrics (excellently penned by Joshi) and tugs on your heart strings. Shreya emerges in the later portions of the track and also impresses. Musically, the track is relatively traditional with just the right amount of modern touches. The track also appears as an instrumental later on in the album. Karthik's *Behka* is up next. A jazzy track that has all the makings of an excellent show number, it is brilliantly rendered by Karthik. Karthik has the lovelorn, head-over-heels feel of the song down pat. A member of * Ghajini*'s Tamil soundtrack, listeners are urged to check out Karthik's 'Oru Maalai'. The music is outstanding, especially the drums in the latter portions of the song. Joshi pens another brilliant song that takes a poetic and somewhat comic take on being in love from a guy's perspective. After 'Behka' comes the vibrant and energetic *Latoo* sung by an equally vibrant Shreya Ghoshal. The track is full of life, very much like Asin's character, beautiful and playful. Once again the musical and lyrical talents of Rahman and Joshi create magic. Like 'Behka', 'Latoo' is a sweet and comic take on a girl head-over-heels in love. Joshi depicts this brilliantly while Rahman reflects those emotions with a lively mix of modern sounds. In comparison with the Tamil soundtrack, *Ghajni*'s Hindi remake maintains the high caliber of music that was given by Harris Jayaraj. Also, like original, the album is relatively lively and romantic for a movie that is quite grim and action orientated. *Ghajini* suffers from the great-expectations syndrome. The prolonged heavy media coverage combined with the pressure of matching the blockbuster status of the original, not to mention the scrutinizing eyes of the fans of the original film, will no doubt cause the music to be heavily construed upon. As a result, its appeal may vary with varying audiences. Nonetheless, *Ghajini* is definitely Rahman's strongest album this year. 'Guzarish', while being popular with the masses, is musically and lyrically quite mediocre. 'Kaise Mujhe' might prove to be too intense and situational for some, despite it being a power-house of a song. Jazzy 'Behka', rocking 'Aye Bachchu' and the lively 'Latoo'

[arr] Ghajini music review
Ghajini http://ursmusically.blogspot.com/2008/11/ghajini.html In Rahman’s recent Tamil soundtrack ‘Sakkarakatti’, there is this song ‘I miss u da’, where Rahman tries to bend the rules, break convention on how not just a Indian film song but any song should sound, but the song is just that, it just bends the sound but not the music. It is one of the classic examples where there is more of Rahman’s sound than Rahman’s music. Some of the very deeply emotive and soul stirring melodic phrases are in “Ghajini” soundtrack like those hums, hoons and hymns of Sonu Nigam throughout the extremely catchy ‘Guzairsh’, which on surface sounds like a routine love ballad with a familiar repetitive rhythm. It is Sonu’s soothing interruptions that take the song a notch higher with its emotional content. Though Kavitha Baliga’s operatic interlude sounds like an after thought, it is rare to find a Rahman song with such a simple sounding interlude that creates an aural ambience around the listener. Equally soothing is Shreya’s humming in Kaise Mujhe with which she starts her part of the song, after Benny quite uncomfortably wanders through a tedious melody that has more silence in between phrases which sounds more manufactured than naturally fallen, so as to bring out the effect and emotion in the melody fabricated around those silences in between. But inspite of a very unconventional flow of the melody, with some touching phrases of melody and with the clever and an aurally alluring orchestration (which is more so evident in its blissful instrumental version) Rahman manages to convince at least those for whom a song need not be instantly hooky. Bekha is unarguably THE song of the soundtrack where Karthik seems to have had a blast singing it. The attitude, expression and rendition of Karthik is mind blowing in this song, just listen to the way he casually rounds off those rough western notes in a sweet classical way. Rahman goes a little further from where he left in ‘September Maatham’ from Alaipayuthey (or ‘Chori pe chori’ from Saathiya) in writing unconventional melodies that makes lyricists go mad in finding words to fit the tune. The song sounds as if all those complex phrases of melody and counter saxophone pieces just flew instinctively out of Rahman’s mind when he went into the same euphoric and romantic mood in which the character in the movie is when he sings this song. The sound heavy ‘Aye Bachchu’ is an enjoyable Rahman cliché with abundant layers, e-sounds and loops and head banging rocking guitars and percussions. Once the song gains momentum with ‘Jhoom le’, it refuses to stop and make us swing with its rhythm. Coming to ‘Latto’, by using Shreya Ghosal, with the addictive ‘Yaar Yaar’ hook and the interesting vocal harmonies in the interludes, Rahman sold it to me. When you put these two songs on your noise canceling headphones, you are in a unique Rahman’s sound universe where each sound makes some sense and doesn’t add up as a cacophony. To continue from where I left in the beginning, When Rahman’s sound is almost in balance with Rahman’s music, we get a soundtrack like Ghajini. Sometimes while doing so, Rahman asks too much from his listeners, he takes them too far a place where they are so uncomfortable, not because they don’t like the place but because they haven’t been there before. But indeed by Rahman standards, it isn’t an extremely unconventional or path breaking soundtrack, it is just (just is just because it is Rahman) an enjoyable and a vibrant soundtrack apt for a commercial movie like Ghajini and the one that has its highs and lows and those who want to like it will like it for those highs, patiently waiting in those few lows for the next following high. And I am one of them.

Should be easy :) -- -A http://viewsnmuse.blogspot.com
