How to add $USER$ there in Reports qualifications.
Hello List, Can you please advice me how I can add $USER$ there in Reports Base qualification. Because it converts the Keyword $User$ to the username before saving the report and if i put $\User$ it does not produce user name at run time. Re: ARSPERL:complile question - Windows
It is definitely possible to compile ARSperl with Visual C++ Express 2005. The most common diffculties might be as follows: (1) You will need also the Microsoft Platform SDK. (2) You have to take care that some environment variables are set correctly. Visual Studio and the Platform SDK both supply batch scripts to achieve this (vcvars32.bat for Visual C++, ...\Setup\SetEnvLaunch***Retail.Cmd for the SDK) (3) After compiling, the so called manifest file has to be embedded into the newly created ARS.dll (don't ask me why), or else you might get an error message MSVCR80.dll not found when trying to run ARSperl. To do this, run: mt -manifest blib\arch\auto\ARS\ARS.dll.manifest -outputresource:blib\arch\auto\ARS\ARS.dll;2 (The mt command is installed with Visual Studio) Regards, Thilo Stapff patrick zandi wrote: ** I tryed using ms 2005 express, but it did not like it either.. so I will try this one.. Re: ODBC Driver: AR System ODBC Driver version 7.x
Hi Joe, This is actually a Crystal feature that has been around for a while now. I don't think it can be used to do joins (at least efficient ones anyway) against the AR system database as I'm pretty sure the control provided by the AR System ODBC driver just isn't up to it. This makes sense when you consider that at the database level a single AR table (form) uses data from several underlying tables. You are limited to doing a (very slow) join by combining multiple data sources referencing the same AR system server or you can use the AR created native database views instead. It has been a while since I've used the command feature in Crystal but I seem to recall it being used with an order by clause to enforce a particular order for gathering data into a report. I guess it could also be used in combination with a parameter to pass a query to a report. If the query is passed to the report then it could be displayed as data in the report. In short I guess the command feature does have its uses but probably won't help get around the issue with joins you were hoping it would. I would suspect flawed design. As I mentioned, if I copy/paste the SQL directly in SQL Advantage and run it (looking at the Query plans), it estimates 5+ minutes to run. So... I would conclude that this is not a Remedy Server issue but a design issue. CMDB Design is fundamentally the same for ITSM 7.X, thus would occur in this environment as well. Disclaimer: This performance issue is related to VIEWING the CMDB information via the Remedy User Tool. It does not occur when populating the CMDB. This situation occurs with a large amount of data populated in the CMDB. The situation is as follows. I have several Applications (AST:Application) that are related to several computers (AST:ComputerSystem) through the dependency relationship (BMC:BMC_Dependency). For one application, there are several dependency relationships that relate the Application to 3000+ computer systems (NOTE: I'm only creating one instance for an application and relating that application to all computers that are running the application. I'm updating license counts accordingly). If you're asking how I'm relating 3000+ computers to one application (that's a lot of mouse clicks!!), I'm keeping this information up-2-date via a custom interface to SMS through EIE. The situation is this, when a user (in the user tool) views this particular application and goes to the related items tab to display the dependencies, the user tool hangs while it tries to show the dependent computers, and the Remedy ARSystem hangs while the system tries to update the table OSRelationship_tbl.I'm forced to stop/restart the Remedy system in order to re-establish processing. If I view other applications that have 150 -300 computers related to an application, the table does get refreshed, but it does take time (10 - 30 seconds). The threshold seems to be around the 400 to 500 relationship mark. After a lot of investigation, I've come up with the following: The OSRelationship_tbl on the Related Items tab(Note:This table is the same table that is used on other AST forms that have relationships) on AST:Application is refreshing itself from the view AST_SearchFromBaseDependency which references AST_SearchFromBaseDependency1. AST_SearchFromBaseDependency1 is a join between BMC:BMC_Dependency and BMC:BMC_AssetBase. The problem is that the JOIN criteria on AST_SearchFromBaseDependency1 is an OR relationship. This results in a cartesian product between BMC:BMC_Dependency and BMC:BMC_AssetBase when queries are performed against the table in SQL Server 2000 (I suspect it would be the same in Oracle or any other DB). Because the join relationship on AST_SearchFromBaseDependency1 is an OR, a cartesian product is being generated and no utilization of any index would solve this performance issue. Performance is not an issue when an object only has a few dependency relationships or if BMC:BMC_AssetBase is fairly small, but when the opposite is true, it causes the application to hang (I've turned on SQL logging and the same is true if the SQL is issued directly to the database via SQL Advantage. The SQL will take 5+ minutes to run). For the instance I am talking about, I have 20,000 objects in BMC:BMC_AssetBase and 10,480 items in BMC:BMC_Dependency. The application that I am viewing has 3700 items in BMC:BMC_Dependency (ie. 3700 computers are dependent upon this application (are running it). I checked out the ITSM 7.X design, and the design is still, fundamentally the same, with the AST:SearchFromBaseRelationship being an OR join between BMC:CORE:BMC_BaseRelationship and BMC:CORE:BMC:BaseElement. This problem will also occur in this version as well. Has anyone else out there experienced this issue ? I've been forced to write code to check on the number of dependencies that an object has, and if over the 400 mark, to hide the related items tab and pop up an error message so that we don't hang the server. Any thoughts? Terry ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the

Re: Reporting From MS-Access( Retrieving Report from Remedy)
I have seen this issue in the past. If I remember correctly the way I got around it was to - write the current date/time value to a table with a single indexed record that was used in the query using the function dlookup to write the criteria: - DLookup(expr, domain, [criteria]) - You can use the DLookup function to get the value of a particular field from a specified set of records (a domain). Use the DLookup function in Visual Basic, a macro, a query expression, or a calculated control on a form or report. You can use the DLookup function to display the value of a field that isn't in the record source for your form or report. For example, suppose you have a form based on an Order Details table. The form displays the OrderID, ProductID, UnitPrice, Quantity, and Discount fields. However, the ProductName field is in another table, the Products table. You could use the DLookup function in a calculated control to display the ProductName on the same form. The DLookup function returns a single field value based on the information specified in criteria. Although criteria is an optional argument, if you don't supply a value for criteria, the DLookup function returns a random value in the domain. If no record satisfies criteria or if domain contains no records, the DLookup function returns a Null. If more than one field meets criteria, the DLookup function returns the first occurrence. You should specify criteria that will ensure that the field value returned by the DLookup function is unique. You may want to use a primary key value for your criteria, such as [EmployeeID] in the following example, to ensure that the DLookup function returns a unique value: Dim varX As Variant varX = DLookup([LastName], Employees, [EmployeeID] = 1) For More Information: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa172176(office.11).aspx Hope this helps. curious count of Entry-id on a Integer field
dear listers, everyday I import a number of entries into a form. On that form I have an Integer field and a filter which fires on merge. For every entry imported into that form, my filter goes:Integer Field = $Entry-Id$ I tested two times the filter. Each time my import was 1065 entries. After second attempt my Integer Field was 98423. So I assume there must be a relation with the previous entries created in the database previous to my imports. But a clearer explanation would be probably better. Has any of you valuable people an idea why I am getting this curiosity ? Thanks. Importing and reconciling assets in ITSM6
Dear list, I'm looking for some instructions (or just a simple sequence of events) that will allow me to import and reconcile assets into the CMDB in our ITSM installation. First, details about our environment: ARS 7.0.1 ITSM 6.0 (Asset, HPD, CHG) CMDB 1.1 Assume I've got a clean ITSM installation with no asset data (except for whatever configurations and data are installed when you install Asset). From my understanding, there are a couple of data sets already defined (namely BMC.Asset). Now, assume I've got two spreadsheets (which I can save as CSVs for the sake of importing with ARImport). These spreadsheets contain asset data from two separate data sources (say DS1 and DS2), and some of the asset data may be duplicated or have conflicting information for particular records between the data sources. Lastly, assume that these data sources only contain data fields which appear on Asset Base. First, the import piece. I've experimented with importing asset data from CSVs into the CMDB using ARImport on our development system with some success. For each record in the CSV, I need to specify the data set and asset class. Then I create a field mapping in ARImport and import these records directly into Asset Base. Next, I have to export all of the records (again to a CSV) by class so I can get the InstanceID (amongst other system generated fields) which was assigned to each asset during the import. Lastly, I import this exported data to appropriate sub-classes in the CMDB. For example, if I import (say 100) computer system records, I first import to Asset Base, then export the fields common between Asset Base and Computer System to a new CSV and import that to Computer System. To date, this method has worked for me (from what I can tell) even though it is a bit clunky. Second, the reconciliation piece This is where I'm a little lost. I've read through the guides, and they tell you how to use each piece of the recon engine (kind of), but they really don't explain a start to finish process of reconciling imported data. Let's assume that I've created two new data sources using Asset Manager (call them DS1.Import and DS2.Import). Furthermore, assume I've followed the import steps above and have imported the two data sources, ensuring that the appropriate data set was specified in the CSV. So now I've got two sets of asset data in: DS1.Import and DS2.Import. What I'd like to do is have the recon engine run through these assets and merge them into the BMC.Asset data source (which we'll consider our golden set of asset data). How do I do this? What jobs need to be scheduled and run, and in which order? Furthermore, assume that for DS1, I've made up my mind that data in a certain field (Field A) is the sole source for this data. Essentially, in the merged records, all data for field A in Asset Base will be populated with data from DS1. Likewise, the same may hold true for a certain field in DS2. How can I configure the recon engine to handle this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Ben ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

Re: CMDB Performance Issue - Heads Up out there
Our Oracle DBA noted what he thought was a design flaw yesterday - on retrievals, the SQL isn't binding any of the variables (like form ID), so it's having to re-fetch each of those each time, instead of having it locally cached like a server variable. You should tell your boss to send you to the AR System 7 Administration classes. You don't need to know a programming language to develop in AR System, but you do need to know how the few object types work, and the classes will teach you that. Re: SOLVED Using LDAP with multiple Lotus Notes address books on Remedy 6.3
According to IBM, if you define a user base of C=US (C is Country), there is a notes.ini parameter that will convert this paramter to root. I set this up on mailflow and worked with bill and it works good, people from both org's can authenticate. From the Domino 6 Administrator Help: In Lotus Domino 5, the LDAP service converted a search base of country (c=xx) to root () by default. This conversion accommodates releases of Microsoft Outlook Express earlier than 5.5, which supply a default country search base when users do not specify a search base. In Lotus Domino 5, you can use the NOTES.INI setting LDAP_CountryCheck=1 to prevent the LDAP service from making this conversion. By default, the Domino 6 LDAP service does not convert a search base of country to root. Use the NOTES.INI setting LDAPPre55Outlook=1 to revert to the Domino 5 LDAP service behavior of converting a search base of country to root to accommodate releases of Microsoft Outlook Express earlier than 5.5. The LDAP_CountryCheck setting is obsolete in Lotus Domino 6. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

Re: ODBC Driver: AR System ODBC Driver version 7.x
Hi Rod.. That's a disappointment.. I was a little excited when I saw it yesterday and thought I might be able to get something useful out of it. I did try to play around with both the command feature and the add parameter feature yesterday after getting back to my hotel, but am yet to do anything creative out it.. It did fail when I tried to create a join though, and would just not display the data though the join was a simple one and at DB level displays data.. So I guess you are right.. Thanks for your response.. I joined two tables using the command feature, a simple join like select * from a, b where field = field On trying to create a simple report out of it, no data would display.. Add another field to the form you are searching (i.e. an integer field called Sort Order). Set the form to sort by Sort Order then your Menu data. On the Menu remove the checkbox of Sort on Label (this will cause the menu to use the Form's sorting). The Remedy Menu never even needs to reference the Sort Order field. What you can try is to follow the steps of a standard file replacement patch. For example, if your server version is 6.3, go to the support site and download the files for the latest, greatest patch for 6.3 (which I think is 21). Then just follow the steps for replacing the files. One of the files that gets replaced is arserver.exe. That'll guarantee that you have a clean, non-corrupt version of arserver.exe on your server. Melissa, On a Service Desk 7.0.02 P3 installation I saw this exact error in the Requester Console when attempting to submit a request. This began after I removed most lines of ar.conf (or equivalent on Windows) to speed up AR restart while testing some things outside Service Desk. My best guess is that the following lines are critical to this function of the Requester Console, but there are a few others inserted by IM that are probably important as well. Once I replaced these lines, requests save without that error. Plugin-Path: /usr/ar/ar-app/incident/bin Plugin: /usr/ar/ar-app/incident/bin/libcaieventcmd.so In your configuration file, perhaps these lines are missing, have unrecognized end-of-line format for your system, have incorrect paths (or non-existent libcaieventcmd.so or dll) or similar? Re: ARERR 9200 when attempting to access a flashboard
I'm replying to my own post with more info, because our 3rd party support is essentially useless. I've noticed that this ARERR 9200 isn't an issue with non-admin vs. admin users. If I view this console that has flashboards via opening the console form, there is no error. It's when I arrive at the console via the Home Page selection that I receive ARERR 9200, regardless of whom I am logged in as. I haven't worked with configuring home pages for users before. I'm missing something. Since the problem is with flashboard fields, does this have something to do with how mid-tier loads a home page? Re: ODBC Driver: AR System ODBC Driver version 7.x
Well I've been unable to get the remedy data into a MS sql database. Either I get an error about cannot fetch a row, or I get an error on driver not capable. However both methods return the field names and data types. Once I can get the data into a standard dfb system this issue will go away. It sounds like may solve your problem as well. I can certainly understand why the remedy odbc driver will not do joins, but it still makes things rather difficult... -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Joe D'Souza Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2007 11:35 To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: ODBC Driver: AR System ODBC Driver version 7.x Daniel, That's exactly the same issue I had last night when I tried playing around with the command feature then.. Date/time format
Hello List, I have a problem with the date/time format on our ARS server. At the moment our format is like this (if I write $TIMESTAMP$ somewhere) MM/DD/YY HH:MM:SS AM/PM But we use the following format in Russia - DD/MM/YY HH:MM:SS without AM/PM I tried to find how to change the date/time format in the documentation, but this doesn't describe how to set it - ARDATE The date format used by the program. UNIX only-This value consists of a string of operators as defined by the strftime library call (some combinations appear successfully, but cannot be translated for input). If you do not set this variable, the system uses the date format for the language specified by the LANG environment variable. What does it mean - as defined by the strftime library call? Could you give an example? Thank you. ENV: ARS 6.3 Oracle 9.2i Solaris 9 Kind Regards / C ? Dmitry Bezhenar ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

Weirdness and the Worklog
I am doing some testing on the ARS 7.0.1 patch 2 user client and I am seeing some weird things with the worklog. After creating a new Helpdesk case (HD 5.5), It appears the worklog is not getting cleared after the case is created and when you begin to create a new case from the same screen (it appears all fields have been cleared) the worklog information from previously created case still resides in the worklog when you click on the worklog button. However, it does appear once you save that case that the bogus information goes away. Any clues? It appears that some temp field is not getting cleared and the worklog is displaying that info. Re: Date/Time/Login+ append to WorkLog
This action will not appear in a logfile, if I remember correctly. Like David Shellman said, it is system-generated. Just accept that the system-generated information is something you can't change and add to what's there. I tried several different things in a development environment until I got the format I wanted. Use a filter to do the work when you can so it will take place on the server.
