The Web alias name is stored in the arschema table in the objProp

Re: Remedy server events table

2008-03-25 Thread LJ Longwing
Server events is VERY useful if you extend it. One of the consultants that
came to my job had a tool that he built for his own personal use that was
insanely useful. It fires on submit into server events, and creates a copy
in another table, you then build a translator table that takes your event
codes and converts them to human readable events. What this gives us is
every modification to the system (that's turned on in the server events tab)
is logged with what was done (create, set, delete, etc) by who, and on what
object.

The alias you are looking for is going to be stored with the View, not the
form itself, I don't know the tables, but I know how to get at it via the
API. The reason it's stored there is because each view of a form can have
its own alias.

Re: Populate Menu From Two Sources

2008-03-25 Thread Brian Goralczyk
Joe,

I would do you one better and just build the join into the sql query. It
would require that you would only need to update the query if anything
changed and not have to modify the view.

But that is just my way of looking at things.

Does anyone know of a way to have a menu populate from two difference
 source forms?

I need to have a search menu look for an entry from Form A, if there are
no matching entries look on Form B. I have been unable to figure out how to
have this done automatically. I could have a selection field designating
which source to look in first, but I would prefer to have it done
automatically. I tried building two different AL's (one for each source
form) and using a larger Execution Order for the second source, but if the
first one fails the second does not appear to run.

Re: Remedy server events table

2008-03-25 Thread Carey Matthew Black
My two cents...

The Server Events model has at least one major problem. Admin Tool
Imports do not show the individual objects and what changed about the
objects that were imported. It only shows as a single Event for the
Import of objects.

It is also fairly unclear to me if the Server Event is created
before or after the actual object change. ( I think I would like the
option to have it created before, then modified after to say
Complete. It might give us a shot at a good Source Control
integration point from the ARS server.)

I use it from time to time on our dev box for poking at what change
were made with respect to specific fields/forms/workflow during
specific times/dates. However, the process is more diagnostic than
ingrained in the development process. ( I wish it was more complete so
that it would be more helpful to the development/release processes.)

According to a rep at BMC, Web Services on MT 7.1 do NOT work against

Actually, the Mid-Tier can be upgraded independently from the AR System

 http://www.bmc.com/support/bmcremedycomp/index.htm

Moving to Mid-Tier 7.1 will provide some performance increases, but you
would not be able to use any new features of the Mid-Tier that depend on the
AR System server being 7.1.00 as well (e.g. pre-fetch). In other words, AR
System Mid-Tier 7.1.00 is supported on AR System Server 6.3 (supporting only
6.3 features), 7.0.01 (supporting only 7.0.01 features) and 7.1.00 (all

The view alias and label name(s) can be found in the table
field_dispprop. You need to look for rows where the schemaId is that of
your schema and the fieldId is NULL. There is a row for each vuiId and
in the propLong column you will find the information concerning view
names and labels.

The structure of the propLong field is a bit complicated to describe in
an email, but it consists of '\' delimited values detailing the values
of the various properties of the view. The first number is the number
of properties stored. For the view name look for the string
'20\4\nn\string' where nn represents the length of the name string and
string is that name. The label for Entry Point, New Mode is
property number 5026 and that for Entry Point, Search Mode is 5027.
If the label is empty then the property value will be displayed as
5026\4\0\\ (for New Mode).

I know it looks confusing but I hope this helps. Using the API is makes
it much slightly easier to decipher as it separates out the properties
for you, but you still have to work out some of the values for yourself.

Re: Connect users?

2008-03-25 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

BMC only implemented the GetListEntryWithFields-call in the
ARDBC-implementation, which means that you can not do a Set-Fields from
that vendor form.

You can create a table though, just like it is done in the administration
console, and then do a table loop to access the data.

The implementation is limited to certain search criteria. You should look
at the table-implementation ans search criteria in the administration
console.

You don't mention what version you're on - but if it is 7.x take a look at
the license forms in AR System Administration/Manage User Licenses. There
is a table on the form listing the currently connected users. From what I
recall it uses the REMEDY.ARDBC.SERVER.ADMINISTRATION plugin. You could
create a form with the same properties.

Brian, both scenarios will use the escalation queue, and in 6.3 only one

It is my understanding that the first process would happen quicker
because the escalation is only running on one record. It does however
require one aditional step.

The reason for the display only field is so that the form will record an
update and start the filters firing. It is running unqualified because
I want it to fire on every record. So you are correct in that
assumption.

Am I wrong in my assumption that having the escalation run on one record
that then fires a filter to every record in another form would cause the
second action to become multi-threaded? The intention here is to cause
the server to fire on as many LDAP records as possible as quickly as
possible. The LDAP form is the slowest piece of the process. By FAR!!

Transferring a field only between servers

2008-03-25 Thread Moore, Christopher Allen
Hey everyone-

We deleted a field on our dev server which we would like to get back.

The field is still on our production server form, however taking full
definition from that form and putting it on the dev server is not
desirable since other work has been done on the dev version of the form
which we want to avoid overwriting.

The field is a table with columns. Is there a way to just grab this
field from our production version of the form and put it back on the dev
version of the form?

Thanks,

If you can log into both servers at the same time you can use copy and paste to
move only the field to the Dev server.

Hey everyone-

?

We deleted a field on our dev server which we would like to get back. ?

?

The field is still on our production server form, however taking full
definition from that form and putting it on the dev server is not desirable
since other work has been done on the dev version of the form which we want to
avoid overwriting.

?

The field is a table with columns.? Is there a way to just grab this field from
our production version of the form and put it back on the dev version of the
form?

?

Thanks,

Chris

keep the server name so I had a production table field looking at a dev

Chris,

Also check the field ids of the table and the columns. Prior to AR System
7.1 (maybe 7.0) they were set to new field ids instead of retaining the
original ids.

I guess you can add a footer template to your outgoing mailbox with a couple

 are not processed

One other remark, do check the mailbox where replies end up every couple of
weeks or so. It will fill up and you might want to clean it out a little. Of
course things like out-of-office replies will end up there but it can also
be a way to (double) check for people who have left the company (and which
no longer have mailboxes) and you still need to remove or deactivate in
 Remedy.

Re: Mid-Tier 7.1

2008-03-25 Thread Easter, David
For web services, the following is true:

Use of webservices requires that all ARS/Mid-tier/Admin Tool components
be at 7.0.1 patch 004 or above, or all be at 7.0.1 patch 003 or below.

This is documented in the 7.0.01 compatibility matrix and will probably
make its way into the 7.1.00 soon as well for clarity. It's also in the
documentation update for 7.1.00 found here:

http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/73/78/87378/87378.pdf

So in your scenario of MT 7.1 with AR System 6.03 - correct, web
services would not operate properly.

Actually, the Mid-Tier can be upgraded independently from the AR
System server. This can be seen in the compatibility matrix at:

 http://www.bmc.com/support/bmcremedycomp/index.htm

Moving to Mid-Tier 7.1 will provide some performance increases, but
you would not be able to use any new features of the Mid-Tier that
depend on the AR System server being 7.1.00 as well (e.g. pre-fetch).

In other words, AR System Mid-Tier 7.1.00 is supported on AR System
 Server 6.3 (supporting only
 6.3 features), 7.0.01 (supporting only 7.0.01 features) and 7.1.00
 (all features).

 Hi all
 Quick question

 We're currently on ARS 7.0.1 p002 (SQL2K be) and it'll be a bit before

we upgrade that to 7.1. Question is, can we go ahead and upgrade the
mid-tier to 7.1 and, if so, will that provide any benefit from a
 performance perspective? Thanks!!

XML DateTime vs Time - different TZ offset

2008-03-25 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Has anybody seen this... When consuming a web service that has both an
XML DateTime field and an XML Time field, when Remedy generates the data
it puts a different time zone offset on each of them.

Here is an example. A Remedy filter is consuming a web service that has
4 elements (String, Date, DateTime, and Time). I put the same date
(and/or time) in each field (String is just for comparison purposes).
Remedy creates the XML (as seen in the Plugin Log file of:

 ROOT xmlns=urn:Template
  xmlns:xsd=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema;
  xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
   String03/25/2008 02:30:00 PM/String
   Date2008-03-25/Date
   DateTime2008-03-25T14:30:00-05:00/DateTime
   Time14:30:00-06:00/Time
 /ROOT

As you can see by the XML the DateTime field has a time zone offset of
-5 hours while the Time field has an offset of -6.

Date is a Remedy Date field (not DateTime showing only the Date) and
Time is a Remedy Time field (not DateTime showing only the time).

This is using ARS 6.3.0 patch 20 on Sun Solaris 9 with Oracle.

rrrLoginConv help requested

2008-03-25 Thread Christine
The company for which I work is putting in a new Remedy ARS version:
7.1.00 Patch 002 200802011900. The persons/users have been imported in
the the old naming convention and before go-live it has been decided
to change person/user name to the same as our AD login.

So... I found rrrLoginConv but I am obviously missing the point (or
key info) because it runs, but no changes occur. Here is pertinent
info:

running from laptop, not the server. Slow, but the logfile shows no
error based on that.

Text file entries created in TextPad (these people/users do exist)
gord_gray = grayg
roland_renaud = roland
james_robertson = robertso

Command line minus login info:

rrrLoginConv remdev login password loginTest1.txt ALLFORMS -debug -
logfile test1.log

When logged in as the user in the command line I can add, change,
remove people and users. This runs, and as promised -debug creates a
prolific log file. Sample from the CTM:People form:
