Re: ARAdmin pwd change via User Tool - SQL 2005

2008-07-21 Thread Webster, Basil
Hi Guillaume,

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to have to get hold of support.
I had tried to do the change just after the initial install so there had
not been any changes to the ARAdmin properties on SQL.

Hi Basil,

I changed the aradmin password a couple of weeks ago on a SQL Server
2005, and did not encounter any problem at all. The AR Server version
and User tool version are 7.1 patch 3. I did the change through the AR
Admin console in the user tool, and encountered no problems...

So I suggest you do the following:

- Stop the remedy server service
- In the ar.cfg file, remove the line that has parameter Db-password
- Login with an administrator account in SQL Server and set the aradmin
account password to the default, which is AR#Admin#
- restart the remedy server service
- retry changing the password

If it fails, you should contact bmc support to see what is going on.
This feature does work, maybe somebody changed the account properties of
the aradmin user in SQL server which would be causing problems

Subject: ARAdmin pwd change via User Tool - SQL 2005

Hi All,

We have just installed ITSM (Incident, Problem, Change, CMDB, Asset), AR
Server V7.1, all with latest patches. OS is MS Win Server 2003 R2 with
SQL2005 Ent.

It is part of our install process, after the initial install, to change
the default password for ARAdmin but we get a SQL error that either the
account does not exist or does not have permissions, when going through
the System Info console on the user tool. We have confirmed that it is
the dbo on the ARSystem db. A test on SQL2000 does not give the same
problem.

SQL 2005 is new to us and suspect the problem lies there. Has anyone
else received the same error and how was it resolved?

Naturally there is more than one way to skin the cat, and we have done
it, but we would like to be able to use the standard features.

Kind Regards,

Basil Webster

Unable to print anything

2008-07-21 Thread LisaD
We are in a server group environment, and our printing server is the vip
address for the server group. There was a point in time that the reports
did display on the screen so it seems logical to me that it is environment
related.

Log files show that the reports are being queried and look like they are
running just fine, but nothing gets displayed or printed.

My question is: Has anyone experienced this before, or does anyone have an
idea of where the disconnect may be ocurring in this environment?

Thanks!

We had this exact problem after a change in our firewall rules. This runs on
port 5048 by default if I remember correctly, but the tool does not have a port
specified by default. Try configuring the alert tool options to use the port
you specified (like 5048).

Time based service target

2008-07-21 Thread Ramey, Anne
In SLM (ITSM v 7.x), I'm trying to create a set of service targets to measure
whether a ticket has been updated over each 30 minute interval. For every
miss/met service target, we need to retain the information for that time, so I
don't think we can use the "reset" service target feature. The first one would
look something like this:

Goal: 30 Min
Start When: 'Status' >= "New"
Stop When: 'TR.Last Modified Date' >= 'Last Modified Date'

My trouble is with the start when for the subsequent ones. Should it look
something like this?

Goal: 30 Min
Start When: ($TIMESTAMP$ - 'Reported Date' >= 1800) AND ($TIMESTAMP$ -
'Reported Date' <= 3599)
Stop When: 'TR.Last Modified Date' >= 'Last Modified Date'

I'm trying to figure out how to get it to start at the correct time, but not
restart if later or on reassignment, etc.

Any feedback welcome.

Not at this time, no. Internal discussions are still occurring about
how to address the more complex requirements of the Windows market based
on the large percentage of individuals still using 32-bit systems with
AR System. Many customers are using 32-bit desktop or laptop systems as
"servers" especially for development, testing, POC, demo and small

Re: Statement of Direction available for 64-bit UNIX/Linux server executable roadmap

2008-07-21 Thread Axton
Just my opinion, but if you get the code base to a point where it will
compile and run as a 64-bit binary, maybe you should release and
maintain both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the product, esp. for the
windows platform. For the foreseeable future, server manufacturers
will continue to market and sell 32-bit platforms and corporations
will continue to use them in a production environment.

Data Migration of Approval Mapping from Development to Production

2008-07-21 Thread
Hello Friends

I beleive someone might have come to the similar situtaion while
moving/migrating from one system to another (i.e. without using Migrator)

My quesion is only related to Approval & Assignment Rules, and any
mapping/tool that you can share for this migration of configuration data
from one server to another will be helpful.

I even tried creating a mapping for Approval rules but it is not working as
it should and now I have the option to re-create them manualy.

Thanks for sharing your practice & information
Kind Regards
Himanshu

Re: Statement of Direction available for 64-bit UNIX/Linux server executable roadmap

2008-07-21 Thread Easter, David
Hi Axton,

That is one of the options being discussed but, as you can imagine, it
would require additional resources to maintain two code streams (one as
32-bit and one as 64-bit) including testing, patching, support labs and
documentation. Business conversations are ongoing to determine if those
resources are (a) available and (b) justified in this case.

Note that some vendors (e.g. Microsoft) have stated that they will no
longer release 32-bit versions of server software after 2009. Other
vendors have already stopped shipping 32-bit versions (e.g. SAP).

Just my opinion, but if you get the code base to a point where it will
compile and run as a 64-bit binary, maybe you should release and
maintain both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the product, esp. for the
windows platform. For the foreseeable future, server manufacturers will
continue to market and sell 32-bit platforms and corporations will
continue to use them in a production environment.

Re: Unable to print anything

2008-07-21 Thread Joe DeSouza
Lisa,

This may not be related to you, but not too long ago I did have a printing
issue too - non ARS - I was printing a PDF or a word document. The funny/weird
thing is that it did show that the print job got processed on the printers
client console before it disappeared from the queue, but nothing ever got
printed on the printer.. I checked the IP address and port settings and
everything checked out fine.

I reinstalled the printers driver keeping the same settings and bingo - it
worked just like that.. To this day I have no idea why it didn't error on the
console if it didn't print (besides oh well that's a MS OS for you). The
console displayed the print job as being processed and it disappeared from the
console after it appeared to have successfully processed.

Try reinstalling or reconfiguring the printer and eliminate any hardware or
driver related issues..

Subject: Unable to print anything

We are in a server group environment, and our printing server is the vip
address for the server group.  There was a point in time that the reports did
display on the screen so it seems logical to me that it is environment related.

Log files show that the reports are being queried and look like they are
running just fine, but nothing gets displayed or printed.

My question is: Has anyone experienced this before, or does anyone have an idea
of where the disconnect may be occurring in this environment?

Thanks!

This is documented on page 131 of the AR System 7.1.00 Configuring
Guide:

BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.1.00 Configuring 31-Aug-2007
PDF

Multi-threaded escalation pools were first introduced in 7.1.00, so make
sure that you are on that version. Versions prior to 7.1.00 had only
single-threaded escalation pools.

Hi George,

Interestingly enough we see the same thing with the window email
engine. It has bee a few years but you should be able to call
emaild.sh script (I think that is the name) and give it a stop
parameter. Once armonitor sees that it is stopped it should
automatically start up again.

Re: Statement of Direction available for 64-bit UNIX/Linux server executable roadmap

2008-07-21 Thread Axton
Seems one code line could cover both, just a different build process;
which does translate to more work for patch release, build, testing,
etc. MS may no longer release 32-bit versions of their OS, but they
will be supported long beyond the date the last one was released.

Or, is there something I can do to the web service in Remedy to only allow

ITSM 7.x Data Management Tool Problem

2008-07-21 Thread William Chen
ARS 7.1 Patch 02
ITSM 7.x
Oracle 10.2.g
Windows NT 5.2

Hello listers,

Has anyone used the ITSM Data Management tool to import foundation data?
I'm running into an issue where I can validate the data (4 Operational
Category test records) however when I go to promote the data nothing
happens. I've tried resetting the max filter settings back to system
default (500,000) and deleted all of the records in the DLD:ThreadManager
form and click on Promote however the Staging Status does not change to
"All Data Promoted even after waiting for at least 30 minutes. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Bill

Depending how badly it is hung and why, that may work and may not. I've
actually had to kill the java process before. That tends to be how we do it at
this point.

Hi George,

Interestingly enough we see the same thing with the window email
engine. It has bee a few years but you should be able to call
emaild.sh script (I think that is the name) and give it a stop
parameter. Once armonitor sees that it is stopped it should
automatically start up again.

That would work great on Linux, but not on Windows. :)

Microsoft has a great utility called Process Explorer (which they got when
the bought sysinternals) that can kill just about anything on Windows.

Re: Survey on my site

2008-07-21 Thread Matt Reinfeldt
Don't I wish, fellas! Really, given the amount of impressions I'm
realistically looking at getting, maybe 5-10$... I'd be surprised if it's
more... however, since it's a self-supported site, I figured why not? :)
I've taken the survey myself, and did not believe the questions to be too
intrusive, though, I could see where, as someone else pointed out, a
salesman might be interested. However, it's easy enough to say, "thank you,
we're not interested" if that call should ever come.

If it turns out that I receive a lot of negative feedback from people, I
will not allow similar campaigns to be run on the sites, and will instead
continue to live off of google ads and the rare (thanks Dave!) donations.

Enjoy!

Re: Remedy Alert Tool

2008-07-21 Thread Nadia Dolnikoff
Hi,
Thank you for your response.
We use for our AR server port 1047, shouldn't the port for the server and
for the alert tool suppose to be the same?
Do I need to open a new port for the alert? I mean the port you've
specified?
Also, I tried to disable the firewall on my PC but I still couldn't
receive a pop up message (onlya message in the alert list).
Any ideas?

We had this exact problem after a change in our firewall rules. This runs
on port 5048 by default if I remember correctly, but the tool does not
have a port specified by default. Try configuring the alert tool options
to use the port you specified (like 5048).

Hello,

Does any one know how the Alert Tool work?
I try to pop up a message window for some users in the alert tool but the
only thing that happens is that the alert I tried to sent appear in the
alerts list but does not pop up.
Does any one use this tool?

Hi,

If you have a Windows server, look under C:\Program Files\New
Atlanta\ServletExec ISAPI\Servlets

Open the AuthServlet.java file and check for the password or change the
password.

Example:

/

import java.io.*;

import java.util.*;

import javax.servlet.*;

import javax.servlet.http.*;

public class AuthServlet extends HttpServlet

{

String user = "admin";

String pass = "admin";

Kind regards,

Fritz

Hi,

Before reinstall, try once to open servlet exec with password admin.
This is the default password for servlet exec.

Hope this helps...

Re: Error Caughtexception :'t.LoadResultsList' is null or not an object

2008-07-21 Thread ITSM Support
Hi Reddy,

This is purely related with the permissions, you need to check the
permissions given to the form. Suppose your user is a member of "App
Support" group and if this permission is not given to the "Remedy support
Form" then you will face the Error mentioned by you.

Now simply you can do following:

1. Check permissions for user

2. Give all permission to Remedy Support Form.

Hope this helps...

Yes, we can limit the number of rows returned while publishing the services

While creating web service for the get operation or get list operation in

Where we can limit the number of rows return.

Re: Survey on my site

2008-07-21 Thread Benedetto Cantatore
Running a website has costs associated with it, I don't believe that Matt is
trying to make money here, but merely trying to recoup some of the expenses.
So if you use his website and find value in it then some sort of support would
probably be appreciated. Heâ s merely pointing out thereâ s a survey there.
Your choice whether or not to participate and as he mentioned before a simple
no thank you can suffice if you get a call.
