Re: Table field - saving preferences

2008-09-04 Thread ITSM SUPPORT
Hi Dave

Are you really not able to right click on that field or when you right click
then you are not getting preferences-Save.

If you are not getting preferences-save when ever you right click .for this
do following setting through Admin tool.

Go to properties of List field. And select table labels tab and check there
is preferences in Header. If there is blank fill up Preferences and save it.

Then check through User tool, is it coming or not.

Hope this helps...

Hi all,
I've got a display only form with a list field on it. Users aren't able to
right click and save preferences on it (like column width, etc), the option
to Save just isn't on there. Pretty sure I'm just missing an easy setting

Wrong request element for consuming webservice (ARS 6.3)

2008-09-04 Thread trondvalen
Hi guys!

I have a problem. The operation is used as the request element name instead
of the name specified in the WSDL. Let me explain further:

I'm trying to consume a webservice with a Set Fields action and I have a
WSDL which I can access. When I load this WSDL in my Set Fields action, I
get to choose a webservice: BPELprocessSubUnits and an operation:
process. Then I set up the mappings and save. The WSDL defines a request
element, something like BPELsubUnitsProcessRequest. However, when I
consume the webservice, I see that process, not
BPELsubUnitsProcessRequest is placed in the soap body!!!

I'm using Remedy Administrator 6.3 patch 024, and the server has the same
version and patch level. What can be causing this? It's doing my head in...

Hi all,

We changed the default port of 1099 to 1118 in EmailDaemon.properties
file and since then email engine is not working.

Does it require a server restart to load new properties?

Are there other ports that can be used?

Running same versions of Remedy and email engine(6.03 patch 22).

There is nothing wrong with changing the rmi port, in fact it's pretty much
required if you want things to work properly, as fb, email, and many other
non remedy products like to use port 1099 as their rmi port.

Sizing Up Centralized Oracle Server

2008-09-04 Thread Mohtashim
Hi,

I wonder if experienced consultant could help me with this. I'm interested
in knowing if the following applications data can reside on a centralised
Oracle Database.

 BMC CMDB

 BMC TMART

 BMC ARS

 BMC Portal

 BMC Foundation Discovery/BMC Topology Discovery

 BMC Capacity management.

If we can utilise a centralised Oracle SAN do we know how to size the
physical Oracle server?

I've got theoretical answers to this question, I would therefore appreciate
any practical solution regarding sizing up of Oracle database catering data
from above mentioned application.

Re: Sizing Up Centralized Oracle Server

2008-09-04 Thread Axton
Several factors:

- san network utilization - you may consider having different data paths for
different table spaces as the need dictates
- db network utilization - you may consider having different physical
interfaces for different applications as the need dictates
- db memory utilization - set the cursor_sharing initialization parameter to
similar or force - this will reduce the memory requiremetns on the oracle
server to a fraction (~1/10th), esp. for Remedy; I am not sure how well the
other applications are designed (in terms of the use of bind variables)
- db processor utilization - depending on what these apps do, you may have a
lot of i/o or parsing, which eats cpu cycles; it is feasible that you can
throw enough horsepower at the db box to meet any needs, assuming you choose
an architecture capable of handling additional cpus

Unfortunately, there are too many variables in your question to give a
straight yes or no answer. In theory, yes, it can be accomplished, but
there are many ways in which you can paint yourself into a corner if you
make unwise design decisions or oversights.

Hi,

I would use a supporte API to do something like this, namely C or Java.

Most wrapper-APIs has concentrated on reading/writing data to forms, and
as a second priority to read information about forms/fields/filter etc.
The third priority has been to implement the creation of admin-objects
in
the server.

One solution could be to copy the field with ARGetField from a source
form, and then create a duplicate in the other forms. This should work
if
the field does not belong to ANY view.

If the field is supposed to be visible, you will need to handle
different
view-ids on different forms in the ARDisplayInstanceList.

Another favourite of mine is to export the form definitions to a file
(def
or xml), manipulate it (add your field to the forms), and finally
reimport
it.

 All,

Does anyone have a VBS example of the syntax required to use the
CreateField method, and if possible setting the properties of the new
field, using the .NET API? I need to loop through many forms and add
the
same field and it seems this might be the most efficient way.

Re: Failed to perform Action when exporting data in Mid-Tier

2008-09-04 Thread Decou, Candace M
Dwayne, I have seen this where there was an embedded qualification built
into the report and the Override Query was set to No, but I have not
seen it misbehave differently between what it displays on the screen vs
what it spits to csv. The only other time I have had issues is when we
didn't select specific browser settings to allow downloads and that
interfered with the query itself, thus giving us incorrect matching
values. The symptom of the latter issue is easy to identify because you
are basically prompted twice to download the file, and on the second
attempt to download the query is overwritten, but that doesn't sound
like the issue in your case.

Subject: Failed to perform Action when exporting data in Mid-Tier

Dear List,

We have a form from which we want to export data via Mid-Tier. If I put
the report in my User Tool and export the data to a comma separated file
(csv), the data exports and I can import it into Excel, open it, and see
all the data.

In Mid-Tier I select the Report form entry to which the file is
attached, and try to export data and I get Failed to perform Action.
There are no message in the Mid-Tier log.

If I try to export the data to the Screen, Excel opens, but only shows
seven (and not the first seven, they appear to be selected at random) of
the 26 columns.

The report displays to the screen OK. Other reports on this same form
export data OK from Mid-Tier. I checked the Report form entries and
don't see any difference between this entry and the ones that work.

Any idea what might be wrong?

There is nothing wrong with changing the rmi port, in fact it's pretty much
required if you want things to work properly, as fb, email, and many other non

2008-09-04 Thread Shellman, David
**

Been using it for about 12 years. We have a filter setup that performs a run
process that passes the info to a telalert client.

We never implemented the process to update tickets. I have info in a training
manual that shows how to update ticket from a menu. Basically it's done using
canned text sent to an AR System api client.

Re: TelAlert Info

2008-09-04 Thread David.M Clark
I've used it for several years to send assignment notifications to pagers (via
filters) and system status messages (via escalations) to telephones with that
synthetic voice. Just outgoing stuff though, and the version is getting pretty
old. My understanding is that their licensing scheme has changed over the
years from a per server to a per RECIPIENT rate, so it's not cheap to use. If
you haven't already looked for alternatives, you may want to start doing so.
Basically you add a client executable file (telalert.exe or telalertc.exe I
think) to your Remedy application server, configure the TelAlert server (if on
a different box) to allow communications from the Remedy IP address, then
create workflow do a Run Process with a Command Line like:

/apps/telalert/telalert -host xx.xxx.xx.xx -c lNashvilleTextPager -pin $Number$
-user Admin -m $Short Description$

Getting TelAlert installed and configured is definitely much harder than
actually using it, but I haven't really had to do anything to it BUT use it
since I set it up six years ago at my current site. (Has it been SIX? Time to
start looking.) Consequently, I don't remember a lot of setup details... sorry.

We have been using it since 2002.

Basically you add Destinations/Groups to Telalert (We do it from Remedy
using the telaconf command line executable). You then send alerts to
Telalert as David listed below.

I've used it for several years to send assignment notifications to
pagers (via filters) and system status messages (via escalations) to
telephones with that synthetic voice. Just outgoing stuff though, and
the version is getting pretty old. My understanding is that their
licensing scheme has changed over the years from a per server to a per
RECIPIENT rate, so it's not cheap to use. If you haven't already looked
for alternatives, you may want to start doing so. Basically you add a
client executable file (telalert.exe or telalertc.exe I think) to your
Remedy application server, configure the TelAlert server (if on a
different box) to allow communications from the Remedy IP address, then
create workflow do a Run Process with a Command Line like:

/apps/telalert/telalert -host xx.xxx.xx.xx -c lNashvilleTextPager -pin
$Number$ -user Admin -m $Short Description$

Getting TelAlert installed and configured is definitely much harder than
actually using it, but I haven't really had to do anything to it BUT use
it since I set it up six years ago at my current site. (Has it been
SIX? Time to start looking.) Consequently, I don't remember a lot of
setup details... sorry.

Subject: Java Plug-in Unreliable

The Java Plug-in interface is a neat feature that appears to be unreliable.  I
wrote a Java ARDBC plug-in (7.1.00 P4) that mostly works. The plug-ins reads
query on a vendor form, gets data from an external system and returns a
result.  However it occasionally gives errors in the log. Sometimes these
errors results in RPC-timeouts that won’t go away without restarting Remedy’s
Java Plug-in process. Unfortunately I haven’t found a good way to catch these
“errors” so I can try to work around them when they come up.

One error is
org.acplt.oncrpc.OncRpcAuthenticationException: ONC/RPC authentification error

I've checked that my Java plug-in name, ar.conf and pluginsvr_config.xml files
all list the name of the plug-in the same way.  This error usually doesn't lock
the system.

A second is
ERROR [TCP server transport connection thread]
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.c.a (?:?) - Data decryption error encountered
com.bmc.arsys.arencrypt.AREncryptionException:
javax.crypto.BadPaddingException: Given final block not properly padded
..
ERROR [TCP server transport connection thread]
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.a.a (?:?) - Decrypting of the input arguments failed
ERROR (8785): Data decryption error encountered
..

This error usually hangs the plug-in service.

Both errors occur in the same place.
After Initialize() which successfully creates the Plugin and before
getListEntrywithFields().
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.a.d (?:?) - dispatchCall
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.a.d (?:?) - RPC call is encrypted
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.a.d (?:?) - Procedure No. 7  ( Or Procedure No. 9 )
Next comes one of the errors.

I did try to update Remedy’s older version of Remote Tea’s oncrpc.jar, thinking
the error may lie there.  However to do this right, I need Remedy’s source code.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jeff

Passing / Receiving data from a Java Code

2008-09-04 Thread Tadeu Augusto Dutra Pinto
Hi all,

I have a doubt about how to integrate ARS with out of the box
products/systems...

We have to access data from an external database, but this database access has
an interface implemented in java code... We would like to write a plug-in code
that communicates with this java interface code (it's really a classic java
method)...

Workflow:

On a ARS form we wish that when a user type the identificator field for a
client (Account Number, for example) and press enter, the system bring back
complementary information about this client (such as Name, Phone Number, Email
Address, etc...).

These complementary data will be returned by another mainframe server, wrapped
by a java method called getInfoByAccountNumber(String account).

I'd like to know what is the best way to implement this request.

How can I call a java program that returns information and set this information
on fields in my current screen???

Any tips will be appreciated!

Please let's talk a little bit more about this ... If any of you have questions
about this workflow please reply this email that I will try to explain that in
details...

Thanks in advance

The preferred method would be a java ardbc plugin, but this is not possible
on 7.0.x. The options I see:
- write a java daemon (based on your java api) that accepts and responds to
requests, then write a filter plugin in c to send/receive requests from that
daemon.
- fork a java process via set fields run process that returns the values you
want (gonna be slow and prone to problems since you would have to parse a
string of data)

I am sure there are many other approaches, but these first two come to
mind. The first is more intricate but once working will work faster and
more reliably than the second.

MS SQL Server 2000
Windows 2000

Client(s) ARUser 7.0.01 Patch 005, ARUser 6.03.00 Patch 003

I have at least two users who experience the IP Address Conflict while
logged into their respective PCs on long sessions ( 6-7 hours).
Both have fixed licenses and static IP addresses and they only log into
one ARSystem Server.
The strange thing is the offending IP Address does not resolve to a DNS
name when pinged with -a but it does exist.

I am waiting for some identification of the IP source from the network
team but I was hoping someone else has seen this and has an answer.

I checked the archives but I did not see any posts relating to this type
of issue on a single PC during a long session.

IP CONFLICT (ARERR 9093) Same User, Same PC

Hello Listers,

ARS Server 6.3 Patch 014

Re: Passing / Receiving data from a Java Code

2008-09-04 Thread Carey Matthew Black
While I agree with Axton that the Java based ARDBC plugin is the
best approach. However, given the v7.0 restriction on the
question...

I think a DVF with Active links to pass date in/out of the Data
Visualization Field DVF might also work as a reasonable option for a
client side integration? ( I do note that the poster did not mention a
v7.x Mid-Tier, and that would be required for this to be an option. )

However, that version of Java 1.3.1 is really old. I am not sure that
will work. You may need to move forward to 1.4. (or maybe even 1.5).

HTH.

Oh.. and Axton said the _java_ ARDBC plugin was not supported on
7.0.x. There is a C based ARDBC plugin that you could implement. (If
you write C.)

We have to access data from an external database, but this database access

plug-in code that communicates with this java interface code (it's really a
 classic java method)...

 Workflow:

On a ARS form we wish that when a user type the identificator field for a
client (Account Number, for example) and press enter, the system bring back
complementary information about this client (such as Name, Phone Number,
 Email Address, etc...).

These complementary data will be returned by another mainframe server,
wrapped by a java method called getInfoByAccountNumber(String account).

I'd like to know what is the best way to implement this request.

How can I call a java program that returns information and set this
information on fields in my current screen???

 Any tips will be appreciated!

In ARS version 7.0.x the plugin(s) are written in C. In 7.1.x plugins
can be written in C or Java.

A 3rd option would be to write a intermediate web service (on a web
server somewhere) that takes your request and executes the java call and
returns the data back to Remedy.

ARDBC is supported in 7.0.x, it just has to be written in C. Not until 7.1
does the plugin server support java based plugins (ardbc, area, filter,
etc.).

How can I do this call??
That's all up to you and how you write the programs; IPC, network socket,

3 minutes later the user log showed the IP Conflict Override not

Can Remedy run case insenitive?

2008-09-04 Thread Marty.Thorin
Good afternoon.
We will be moving from Remedy 6 on Sybase to Remedy 7 on Oracle.
(Database politics -- let us not go there.)

We are forever being bit by the case insensitivity of Active Directory.
People try to login in upper case. Active directory allows them to do
so. But everything in Remedy is case sensitive so they do not get a
home page -- they get a blank screen.

As all of our account data comes from case-insensitive sources, I was
wondering if we could tell the new Oracle database to be
case-insensitive. I would like to hear what the group thinks and what
the experience has been.

It is possible to set up a database to be case insensitive in Oracle. The

As far as the Active Directory thing, I agree that it's a major problem and

Is this the User tool or Web?

For web you can add a javascript onchange action to force the case to
whatever you want (or if you are using SSO add a change of case to the
custom java authenticator).

For the User Tool, there is not much you can do (although if you create
the SSO.dll you can do the same case change in it as well)

Subject: Can Remedy run case insenitive?

Have a nice day,

2008-09-04 Thread Matt Worsdell
You can set up Case Insensitivity on oracle 10g R2 by adding the following
to the ar conf file.

Db-Case-Insensitive:T

Although this is documented it is not recommended due to the way indexes
are utilised. Could you not use the INIT function to test loginid and if not
correct display a nice form that tells them to re-login using the correct
case?

You could have alternatively written a merge filter to create a new guid that
is set to that field.. that would have worked too..

All, Please disregard previous - all I had to do was send an email to the List
and it came to me.

I used the Product ID as the Product Instance ID for the import. All worked
fine.

Thanks,

Jase

Hello All,

I am trying unsuccessfully to import product categories from one server to
another.
All product categories are global.

I am trying to import the data into PCT:ProductCompanyAssociation
and PCT:Product Catalog.

Imports won't work, even after selecting import preference -
Generate new ID for all records.

Error - Record 1 : Required field (without a default) not specified --
ProductInstanceID (ARERR 307)

Has anyone else been able to import product/operational categories?
What do I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks to All,

Jase Brandon

Re: BMC UserWorld Miami is being rescheduled

2008-09-04 Thread Susan Palmer
David,

I don't think anyone should find fault with your notification to the list.
In fact we appreciate it. Much better to find it out here than to stumble
across it on the website.

I do think it would have been appropriate for them to send the website
message to all registered attendees at the same time it was posted to the
website. We've heard here that some have received a notification and some
(like myself) have not.

But you also know after a year plus of active 'arslisting' that we do love
to banter back and forth about things that are important to us. BMC should
be pleased that we care that much. Now they can get over it and start
communicating with us directly. Ummm ... wonder if the interest on my
credit card until event time will be refunded. Hardly seems fair to expense
it right now when we don't actually know it's going to be held before next
summer/fall. Ok ... don't want to get started on all that again.

Thanks again David.

 Thanks, Axton.

As also mentioned in my original E-mail, I was attempting to be proactive
in letting the larger community know of the changes when I found out they
were posted to the UserWorld web site. I just copy/pasted the language from
the web site into my message as a convenience so that folks on plain-text
E-mail readers could see the info as well without having to go to the URL.

My (limited) knowledge is that an E-mail was sent to some partners and
internal BMC employees. A more formal message is most likely going out to
 registered guests soon.

I suppose that I could have waited until the formal E-mail was set out to
point folks to the UserWorld site - or waited until an ARSList member
stumbled upon it and then posted Hey, they rescheduled BMC UserWorld and
didn't tell us! - but I thought it more community responsible to post the
link to the preliminary information as soon as it was publicly available.
My apologies if that has caused dissatisfaction due to the informal method
 used.

Actually, if you read the disclaimer at the bottom of all of David's
emails, it is not an official communication:

I'd like to echo that David Easter's message to the ARSList is the
only official communication I got about this. I contacted my sales rep,
but I got the impression that my inquiry was the first he had heard about it
 as well.

Hey David Easter why hasn't an official email gone out from BMC
letting those that signed up know that this has been cancelled? It is just
wrong that I am finding this out 2nd hand. Once again thank goodness for the
 ARS List.

Breaking News:
BMC UserWorld Miami is being rescheduled

Unwavering Commitment to a Great Conference.
New Conference Dates Location Coming Soon.

BMC UserWorld is on the move. We have received notification from the
Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel, planned location of UserWorld Miami, that
they will not be able to open for business in time for our event.

Re: BMC User World

2008-09-04 Thread Shellman, David
Looks like BMC got the hint. I just got an email sent to me as a registered
participant.

Still light on info. Does have a statement about flight changes. I'll not
mention more at this point as those registered should also get the email.

Re: BMC User World

2008-09-04 Thread Susan Palmer
Just received mine too. See below

We recently learned that our venue for BMC UserWorld, the Fontainebleau
Miami Beach hotel, is behind schedule on renovations and will not open in
time to host our October event. Since we are dedicated to creating an
outstanding conference in an excellent venue, we are relocating BMC
UserWorld to another location and rescheduling for a new date.
What does this mean to you?
Shortly, you'll receive an e-mail announcing the new location and date. Our
new event will be bigger and better, delivering newer technology, a broader
global audience, and many more programs for our users.
If you already have registered for the Miami conference and purchased
airfare, BMC will cover any airfare penalties you incur when switching your
travel plans from Miami to the new location. Naturally, your pre-paid BMC
UserWorld Miami registration fee will be accepted at the next show (or, if
you are unable to attend, we'll gladly refund your money). Watch for an
e-mail with specific instructions and procedures for reimbursement of any
airfare penalties.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you, and are
dedicated to exceeding your high expectations by providing our customers and
partners with a world-class event in an outstanding venue. We hope you will
join us at the new location.
Regards,
