Problem Resolved.
I needed to select my Operating company on the Location and Contact
Company fields first. I did not notice the first 100 times I opened
the form, that these are required fields. Once I selected those, my
products showed on the Product menus.

include javascript file in header

2008-10-10 Thread Andrew Hicox

Hi everyone,

I have a file with some javascript functions I'd like to be able to
call with the active link run process thing on a form from midtier.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how I should insert the include
for this file in the header when displaying the form on midtier.

I'm sure this can be done somehow.
Anyone know?

Re: Web service not updating WSDL?

2008-10-10 Thread Chintan Shah
Renaming WSDL wont work...you wont be able to see it in Admin tool,
however if you export out the Web-Service in a def file, you will see
old names being referenced in urn(i have seen that a lot of
times)..that is why it will give you  something like WSDL not found
error or some container error or if everything goes smoothly then
client will see problems at runtime.

Thanks
Chintan.

Re: ITSM 7 Assignment Configuration Issue

2008-10-10 Thread jham36
The Products are available on Incident or Problem as expected and for
the correct company or - Global - as we expected they would. They
show up there fine. I have some configured to be available on
incident, and others on Problem. No problems with that.
This issue is when we go to configure the assignments on the
Assignment Configuration form.
The only products that are available on that form are the ones that
are associated with - Global -
We need to have some of our products restricted to our Operating
Company. Thos products are not available on the Assignment
Configuration form.
Support initially told me that it had to do with the way we imported
the Products using the Data Management Tool. I have tested and proven
that no matter how a Product is entered, it is not available on the
Assignment Configuration form unless it is associated with the -
Global - (default) company.

That still doesn't work. I have recached. I have created the Web Service
under a different name, deleted the original, renamed the new one. Flushed
the cache some more and I still can't get it to recognize it.

My 2 cents,

As soon as you modify WSDL, "Flush cache" on mid-tier, new WSDL will be
re-loaded.

Typically with the 6.3 webservice there was a lot of problems encountered
with this. Usually the only thing that worked was remapping of
everything, and then clear the cache.

With AR 7.1 it's a lot better with performing and updating any changes
that are made.

Ugh, yea - I've seen this before also. Try renaming the webservice and
accessing the wsdl -- then rename it back. There's some trickery involved

After clearing the cache on mid-tier, when checking the WSDL again it's

User crashes on mshtml.dll - RESOLVED

2008-10-10 Thread VanSickle, James W
Team

A few weeks ago, I had sent an email asking about an issue
that several of my users have been experiencing where the Remedy 7.x
client appeared to crash randomly with errors on the mshtml.dll file.
After much testing, patch upgrades, and so forth, we narrowed the cause
of the problem and a fix that appears to be working.

Every user that was having crash issues had Internet
Explorer 6 installed rather than the later version of IE7. I spoke with
BMC Support about this issue, and they confirmed with their backline
engineers that this is a known issue. The Remedy User 7.x client does
not play well with Internet Explorer version 6, and has a tendency to
crash especially when users attempt to change workstation display or
network settings. Upgrading to a higher version or patch of Remedy User
would alleviate the problem for some, but did not cause the problem to
disappear entirely. Upgrading to IE7 on a few select workstations has
caused the problem to disappear entirely.

So if you are experiencing the same problem with Remedy User
7.x appearing to crash almost at random, you may wish to make sure the
user has the latest version of IE7 installed. BMC Support did state
that their engineers are working a fix for IE6, but do not have any ETA
on when a fix would be available, if ever.

Thanks to everyone who sent me comments and suggestions both
on the list and privately about this issue.

Has anyone had to do this before,

Re: FRIDAY Humor-TYPICAL INDAN Names

2008-10-10 Thread Rick Cook
I honestly don't know how Indian people deal with all of the really long
names, though I do hear shortened names a lot (like Srini instead of
Srinikabava). It's one of the interesting mysteries (to me, anyway) about
the differences between cultures. At one office I was at, the other Indians
called one guy "K-17", because he had 17 letters in his last name, and even
they didn't want to pronounce it. You must be pleased to have a shorter
one. I know I am. :)

Hi All,

I am having the exact same issue - 7.1 Patch 002

At the suggestion of all on this thread - I added a display only field to my
form named "OPERATION",

The Escalation has no qualification, only a time based criterion to run. The
escalation is supposed to do a set fields on the field OPERATION, setting
field value to $DATE$ on the current form. Then a filter guilde takes over
and fires the workflow if OPERATION != $NULL$ on that form, on Modify.

'Disable Change Flag' also isn't checked on OPERATION field.

But, the escalation still doesn't make the filter fire, but if I touch the
OPERATION Field on the form, the filter fires. Any ideas?

Escalation log shows this = :HPD:Template:ManagedOSAutoCreateNEW (enabled) :
ready to fire now on -HPD:Template

 --> Failed qualification

But there is NO qualification, and I ran arsignel.exe -e to recache the
escalation definitions...

Did I understand everyone's comments correctly.

I just found out that our email engine is at a higher patch level than the
server. I'm not sure what it is though. (I'm going to find out). I'm going
to take a look at this and perhaps I did find a bug!

Rick,

I believe you misunderstood Matt... One of the properties on the field
is "Disable Change Flag" located on the Display Tab of the field
properties. If the Disable Change Flag box is checked then the field is
ignored during the modify process.

2008-10-10 Thread Brien Dieterle
Wait a second, isn't $OPERATION$ a reserved keyword for "CREATE, MODIFY,
etc"?
ie:
$OPERATION$ = "CREATE"

So, having a database field named OPERATION would be very confusing,
wouldn't it?

Ugh, yea - I've seen this before also. Try renaming the webservice and
accessing the wsdl -- then rename it back. There's some trickery involved

After clearing the cache on mid-tier, when checking the WSDL again it's
saying that the web service definition is not found.

Hi All,
I am having the exact same issue - 7.1 Patch 002

At the suggestion of all on this thread - I added a display only field
to my form named "OPERATION",
The Escalation has no qualification, only a time based criterion to run.
The escalation is supposed to do a set fields on the field OPERATION,
setting field value to $DATE$ on the current form. Then a filter guilde
takes over and fires the workflow if OPERATION != $NULL$ on that form,
on Modify.
'Disable Change Flag' also isn't checked on OPERATION field.
But, the escalation still doesn't make the filter fire, but if I touch
the OPERATION Field on the form, the filter fires. Any ideas?

Escalation log shows this = :HPD:Template:ManagedOSAutoCreateNEW
(enabled) : ready to fire now on -HPD:Template

But there is NO qualification, and I ran arsignel.exe -e to recache the
escalation definitions...

Did I understand everyone's comments correctly.

Thanks,

After clearing the cache on mid-tier, when checking the WSDL again it's

Polish Translation and Email Templates....

2008-10-10 Thread Kemes, Lisa
I'm having a heck of a time getting my polish translated Email Template
(type:HTML) to come through email normally.

I have translated my other email template to:
Japanese
Korean
Dutch
Czech
Simplified Chinese
German
Italian
Hungarian
Portuguese
Spanish

These do not create any problems. But when I create my template in Polish and
add the html file to the AR System Email Template form and send an email
through my form, everything comes through all messed up. My friend in Poland's
email doesn't come through quite as junked up as mine, but still not correct.

I can copy and paste the Polish characters in to an email and it comes through
just fine, so I'm thinking it has something to do with ARS?

This is what gets messed up. All the "a" and the "z" (below is what it SHOULD
look like)
ciągle dąży do poprawy produktów i usług

We are using ARS 7.01 patch 3
Oracle 10i Database
Windows 2003 Servers

Everything should be unicode compliant.

Any ideas?

Rick,

I believe you misunderstood Matt... One of the properties on the field
is "Disable Change Flag" located on the Display Tab of the field
properties. If the Disable Change Flag box is checked then the field is

Re: ITSM 7 Assignment Configuration Issue

2008-10-10 Thread Lammey, Peter A.
The aliases are set automatically if you create the Product using the
Application Administration Console.
By default, an alias of the Product Name is created for all entries in
PCT:ProductCatalog.

When you tested this to see if you could select the product for a particular
Company where did you test this? In Incident? It may depend on what data was
filled out in the incident or change ticket and based on if the Customer
Company or Support Company were set to.

Subject: ITSM 7 Assignment Configuration Issue

I have a problem when setting up Assignments on the Assignment Configuration
form for ITSM 7.
I am refering specifically to the Product Categorization menus on this form.
For some reason (and this is my problem), if a Product is associated with my
Operating Company, it does not show up as a menu choice under product. The
only way I can get these products to show up is to associate them to - Global -
I opened a ticket with support, but I am not happy about the level of support
lately.
They told me that I needed to have aliases setup for all my Products in order
for it to work.
That was a bunch of horse pucky. But, I tried it anyway and it did not work.

Any ideas?

2008-10-10 Thread Timothy Rondeau
Hi All,

Just an update, this is all set. It was the smallest thing. Basically
for whatever the reason my coworker makes a change things get shifted.
So in the case the size went from 20 to 19. It could no longer be seen
on the web. Could see it no problem on the client, just the web.
Creating new fields and moving around helped.

Thanks again

..also, your screen shot makes it look like you have customized the
Incident form view somewhat. If so, there is always that chance that
you have changed the layering of objects in the view and hidden the
button under something else. Things like that usually require that you
re-save the form, sometimes after forcing a change in the object layer
order, then flush the mid-tier cache and force a reload.

Re: escalation

2008-10-10 Thread Jase Brandon
Hi All,
I am having the exact same issue - 7.1 Patch 002

 --> Failed qualification

But there is NO qualification, and I ran arsignel.exe -e to recache the
escalation definitions...

Did I understand everyone's comments correctly.

Thanks,

Jase

Re: escalation

2008-10-10 Thread Rick Ponzo

Rick,

I believe you misunderstood Matt... One of the properties on the field
is "Disable Change Flag" located on the Display Tab of the field
properties. If the Disable Change Flag box is checked then the field is
ignored during the modify process.

I would also turn on the escalation logging and make sure

1) The escalation is running - I've had problems with the escalations
not recaching and a new escalation not firing

2) The record is really getting modified - It will show you in the log
the id of the record modified. If you don't see the id then you have to
check your qualification to make sure it's hitting the right record.

ITSM 7 Assignment Configuration Issue

2008-10-10 Thread jham36
I have a problem when setting up Assignments on the Assignment
Configuration form for ITSM 7.
I am refering specifically to the Product Categorization menus on this
form. For some reason (and this is my problem), if a Product is
associated with my Operating Company, it does not show up as a menu
choice under product. The only way I can get these products to show
up is to associate them to - Global -
I opened a ticket with support, but I am not happy about the level of
support lately.
They told me that I needed to have aliases setup for all my Products
in order for it to work.
That was a bunch of horse pucky. But, I tried it anyway and it did
not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

it can modify the form, to trigger the filter on modify and it does not
work, but if I modified the form manually it will kick off the filter.
Has anyone had to do this before,

Re: escalation

2008-10-10 Thread Trevino, Rick
Matt, thanks for the input, the change flag does get updated by the
escalation, but it does not trigger the filter.

I will try the display field process

Thanks again !

Rick,

Is it possible that you have disabled the change flag on the field
you're using as the "flag"? That could account for the filter not
seeing a modification to it. I've always used a Display-Only field
called "Operation" for these types of events. I have the escalations
set a value in that field, such as "EXECUTE DATA RUN" and have a filter
kick off a filter guide to process the specific work needing to be done
when that value is seen. Has always worked for me.

Good luck,

Matt Reinfeldt

Brien, once your escalation runs, what is the qualification you are
using for the filter. Are you using the date field you set in the
qualification ? AR 7.0.1 patch 6

Re: Issue with Product Name

2008-10-10 Thread strauss
That bug's been around for a while, and is still unfixed in patch 007. It
looks like I just happened to catch it and correct it in February, when I was
adding Corporate ID and Login_ID to the fields set On Open as part of the
process of re-enabling those two values across the entire application, so we
have never experienced the problem that you have. I probably reported it, too,
along with a host of other things that I had to fix before we went live, but
that was when BMC Support was at a historic low in performance.

actually after a little bit of research I found out what the issue is. It is a
defect with BMC's out of the box code. If you look at the active link

HPD:INC:VISAction_141_ModifyGoToClosureDlg

There is a wrong mapping in the open window if action. It sets the $Product
Name$ to the $Product Model/Version$. This only affects you if you are using
the accelerator bar though. If any of your users are using this I would check
this out.

Hi all,
I am having an issue with Remedy in that when a incident is resolved the

the box code.

We are on AR Server 7.1 patch 3, Server Desk 7.03 patch 7, and SQL 2005 server,

Re: Issue with Product Name

2008-10-10 Thread Begosh, Kevin
actually after a little bit of research I found out what the issue is.
It is a defect with BMC's out of the box code. If you look at the
active link

HPD:INC:VISAction_141_ModifyGoToClosureDlg

There is a wrong mapping in the open window if action. It sets the
$Product Name$ to the $Product Model/Version$. This only affects you if
you are using the accelerator bar though. If any of your users are
using this I would check this out.

I am having an issue with Remedy in that when a incident is resolved the
product name field is being blank out. This is nothing I did, so it is
out of the box code.

We are on AR Server 7.1 patch 3, Server Desk 7.03 patch 7, and SQL 2005

Yes, I do. This way I leave BMC's interface form in its original
state. Most of the time, if you have multiple integrations, some of
them will have their own set of business rules or logic that you would
like to implement. So I create small and friendly interface forms per
integration, which keeps it nice and manageable, and they all talk to
BMC's interface form which actually takes care of the insertion in
ITSM. I know it may not be the nicest solution, but it WORKS and it is
fast to implement as well as easy to maintain. Furthermore, I still
adhere to BMC's Best Practice to use the interface forms to
communicate with ITSM.

Actually, I think this is the first time they made a statement like
this. And while I hope they will mature and enhance these interface
forms in the future, technically they should be possible to fulfill
this promise, so I don't see why they shouldn't.

One of the benefits of using just the interface

Alan,

Maybe it is just me... but

"Open beta" should not require me to get "approved" by the vendor. I
should be able to go to their web site (like here:
http://www.bmc.com/beta_program/public/available_betas.cfm) and get
the software.

Oh look... it is not just me

Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_test#Beta
"
Developers release either a closed beta or an open beta; closed beta
versions are released to a select group of individuals for a user
test, while open betas are to a larger community group, usually the
general public. The testers report any bugs that they found and
sometimes minor features they would like to see in the final version.
"

But the article does go on to say this too...

"
When a beta becomes available to the general public it is often widely
used by the technologically savvy and those familiar with previous
versions as though it were the finished product. Usually developers of
freeware or open-source betas release them to the general public while
proprietary betas go to a relatively small group of testers.
Recipients of highly proprietary betas may have to sign a
non-disclosure agreement. A release is called feature complete when
the product team agrees that functional requirements of the system are
met and no new features will be put into the release, but significant
software bugs may still exist. Companies with a formal software
process will tend to enter the beta period with a list of known bugs
that must be fixed to exit the beta period, and some companies make
this list available to customers and testers.
"

So I guess what BMC means by "Open beta" must be more along the lines
of the "proprietary beta" process. Which really sounds like a "closed
beta" to me. (AKA: "released to a select group of individuals for a
user test") Maybe they will someday make the switch to an open beta
and use their entire customer/partner base. Maybe they could do that
in the form of a "Patch" site download? That should keep the faint of
heart and the "non-paying customers" out of the beta.

Shrug. I asked my sales rep to be included in the beta... then he left
the company. So I guess my request to be in the Alpha/beta likely left
with him. I is simply "to hard" to know when and how to request access
to a closed beta.

FWIW: In a very general way, I have these thoughts on "Beta testing
programs" from any software manufacturer:

I think the "benefits" of the closed beta programs are so limited to
almost be "self fulling prophesy" for the company. If you only ask
your customers that only use your OOB applications and they only test
your OOB applications, then the company has a good shot at being able
to do that same testing in Alpha and knowing the results before the
beta starts. But that also means that you learned almost nothing by
expending all of those resource outsourcing (to the customer) the
testing that you have already done internally.

However, if all of the existing customers were to test what they do
with the product, then the company is likely to not have tested all of
the strange and special ways that those crazy customers out there end
up making the product fit that square hole problem. And trust me the
crazy customers want/need to test the next version because they know
that they are pushing the envelope of the product and are on the
(often) bleeding edge of the tech. So those testers are more likely to
participate than the "just OOB" customers anyway.

However those crazy customers will likely result in more known
issues/bugs and a decrease in customer confidence due to the well
known broken state of the next version. That hurts sales of the new
version and thus hurts the company. So the company decides to keep the
beta testers more "exclusive" to avoid the pain points and to try to
keep the customers "happy with the non-existent experience" instead of
"satisfied with the quality of the product that they used in the
testing program".

But maybe it is just me. Maybe some day when I am running my own
software company :)

Re: Best practice to build interfaces with ITSM Suite

2008-10-10 Thread Michiel Beijen
Hi Albert,

There are interface forms for ITSM defined. Please refer to the ITSM7
integrations document:
http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/57/41/65741/65741.pdf

In my opinion the interface user must still have a lot of knowledge of
the fields and values in ITSM7 in order to use these interfaces, but
hey, it is a start and much better than ITSM 5 or 6. So what I usually
do is write another form with some workflow and put that in front of
the interface form. One of the benefits of using just the interface
form is that BMC is supposed to make sure that if you use in in ITSM7
and you would upgrade to ITSM 7.5 or 8 it would still work.

Regards,

Best practice to build interfaces with ITSM Suite

2008-10-10 Thread Albert Bihler

Hi list,

does anybody have a best practice guide or whitepaper on how
to build interfaces between ITSM Incident, Problem and Change
Management and 3rd party systems?

On home grown system we normally create an interface form
that handles the interface actions. We never allow the 3rd party
systems to write directly into the ticket form.

I think this would also be a good idea with ITSM Suite.

As I still quite new to the ITSM Suite, I expect mayor
problems in dealing with the roles and people concept
via interfaces.

I greatly appreciate any hints, woes, pitfalls and other
experience implementing interfaces with ITSM 7.

Kind regards,
Albert
