Re: While installing CMDB its not detecting license
Hi Salma, I have not seen further interaction on this. However if your problem persists. I would like you confirm on have you applied license? There is small but crucial difference successful application and license being recognized. Many times that difference comes due to the way the host id appears in the license tool and given the license key. If you happen to paste the host id as given in the license key you are overriding the host id as recognized by the system and therefore license gets applied but not recognized. You could stop right there and live with it for awhile, kick the tires, be sure all is stable. If you have the right patches installed on your 7.0.3 server, you could then upgrade CMDB (which includes a LOT of new features to the point that we now call it ATRIUM CORE because CMDB is just part of what you get). Again, you can stop and work with this level for awhile if you like. Now, you can choose to upgrade one application at a time and be sure all is stable before you move to the next because mixed version between 7.0.3 and 7.5 for AM/CM/SD is supported. Selection Field Manipulation?
Hello All, Customer wants a dynamic radio button list. I am not sure this is possible, but hope someone may know how to make it so. Thought 1: Manipulate a Selection Type Field (radio button) at runtime to show/hide attribute values dynamically. For example, I have a selection field with 4 values: A, B, C, D When the user logs on, I want to check their group memberships, or permissions, and based on this, show/hide certain values within the list. Problem is, I don't know how to dynamically manipulate a selection type field. Thought 2: Do with a drop down menu, but cannot figure out how to make it a radio button type selection. Thought 3: Build single value radio buttons, loop through them with code to hide/show accordingly, then build workflow to manage user selections. This I can do, but seems like a ton of code, and cumbersome to maintain. Probably not worth the effort, if I could convince the customer of that. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Mark ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: RMI Solutions ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: Selection Field Manipulation?
Mark, Based upon what you are describing, I think you might be able to get away with using 4 individual Check Box fields. You can show and hide them based upon whatever criteria you desire and the look and feel is similar to that of the Radio Button so you should have no trouble with the customer. You would just need to ensure they select only the correct number of boxes by using workflow. Hope this helps. “Table Loop Selected Rows Only” gets unselected row, sometimes
Dear List, This is complicated so please bear with me. I have a form that contains a table of entries from another form. On the main form is a button, that calls an outer active link, that calls a guide, that calls an inner active link, that processes the table. The guide is set to “Table Loop Selected Rows Only.” (The inner link writes a column value into a field, which is how you know it has processed the row.) Because the first row in the table is automatically selected, I have an active link that runs on display that sets the table value to 0. When the form displays you can see the table opening up with the top row selected, and then getting de-selected. Once the main form is displayed I click the button and the inner link processes the first table row, even tho it has been de-selected. If I click the button again it does not process the row a second time. If I trigger an error message before clicking the button the inner link does not process the first table row. It seems like the guide doesn’t know that the table row is unselected, until an active link runs in addition to the one that set the table to 0. If I have the two links display the value of the table, they both say it is 0, even as the inner link is processing the row. I tried running a second table refresh after setting the table to 0 and that seems to have fixed the problem, but I am still puzzled by what is going on. Is this a bug, or am I not understanding something? Dwayne Martin James Madison University (ARS and client tools 7.1 p3, RH Linux server, Oracle 10.2 db)

Dwayne, If you are looking to have the first row NOT selected on form open, check the properties of the table field, there is an option to not have anything selected, the default behavior however is to have the first row selected. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] On Behalf Of Dwayne Martin Sent: Monday, February 23, 2009 9:36 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Table Loop Selected Rows Only gets unselected row, sometimes Dear List, This is complicated so please bear with me. Re: Selection Field Manipulation?
Mark Another option would be a table field with the values displayed and an editable check box to enable selection. This would give you scope for additional entries in the future without additional effort if you design it to be data driven. Matt Hello All, Customer wants a dynamic radio button list. Re: Selection Field Manipulation?
Scott, Thanks, it looks like this is basically the same as 4 single radio buttons. What I was hoping to find out is if there was a way to manipulate the selection type field, so as not to have to build so much custom code. 4 options is just my example, there could be variable number of entries (up to a max, I believe 10). If this gets too complicated, then a drop down menu will have to suffice. Just hoping someone has the magic trick I need. Server Queues to support ITSM, CMDB, and various patches
After watching a data management support group rename job (patch 9005) crash threads on our 7.1.00.002 server several nights in a row during the search phase, strangely enough the AREA thread 390695, I have gone back today to see exactly what threads we have configured, and where we got the information to configure them. Sat Feb 21 00:14:54 2009 390695 : AR System server terminated when a signal/exception was received by the server (ARNOTE 20) Sat Feb 21 00:14:54 2009 0xc005 Sat Feb 21 00:14:54 2009 390695 : AR System server terminated -- fatal error encountered (ARNOTE 21) It is a documentation nightmare, in that contradictory information is scattered throughout the guides for ARS, CMDB, ITSM, and various patch docs. Things like the Plugin Loopback RPC Program Number on the Ports and Queues tab of Server Information are virtually undocumented... in some cases it does not even appear in the screen shots to look at (ITSM 7.0.03 Installation Guide), and the entry in the ar.cfg table in the ARS 7.1.00 Confuring Guide leaves you uncertain about how to use the setting. Some of these settings have been clarified in the ITSM 7.0.03 Installation Guide (and nowhere else), such as the settings for the Reconciliation Engine [390698 or 699: 10 10] pg.20. The same guide shows setting the CAI Plugin Registry form to use a custom private queue - we originally used [390630 2 4] from the 7.0 guide pg.70, then changed it to [2 2] when we disabled the Requester Console); the 7.0.03 guide says to use [2 6] on pg.59. All of the screen shots fail to show the Plugin Loopback RPC Program Number field or its value at all (helpful). CMDB 2.1.00 Apparently sets the Plugin Loopback RPC Program Number to 390626 and creates a queue [390626 2 2] Install/Cfg pg.28, and every subsequent patch to the CMDB recreates this line for the queue even if another already exists with larger values. The confusion really begins with the Data Management Tools 9003 and 9005, which instruct you to use the existing Private Queue 390626, which is already selected as the Plugin Loopback RPC Program Number, and modify it to [16 32] and then specify it in the CAI Plugin Registry form (9003 pg.26, 9005 pg.34). This then puts the CAI Plugin used my the data management tool, the Requester Console (or SRM, I guess), and the CMDB on the same queue. Every time you update the CMDB with a patch this queue will get an additional entry in the ar.cfg for [2 2] instead of the [16 32] values, and the extra entry has to be deleted. At this point our queues and threads look like this (production and development): TypeRPC # Min Max Ar.cfg Definition Admin 390600 Alert 390601 1 1 Private-RPC-Socket: 390601 1 1 Full Text Index 390602 Escalation 390603 1 1 Private-RPC-Socket: 390603 1 1 Flashboards 390619 Fast390620 16 32 Private-RPC-Socket: 390620 16 32 List390635 24 24 Private-RPC-Socket: 390635 24 24 Plugin Loopback 390626 16 32 Private-RPC-Socket: 390626 16 32 Plugin-Loopback-RPC-Socket: 390626 CAI Plug-in Registry = 390626 16Plugin-Filter-API-Threads: 8 40 Per Patch 9003 pg 26-28 and 9005 pg 34-36 (CMDB Install) 390626 2 2 RESETS VALUES TO ITS OWN DEFAULTS 2 2 CMDB Installation and Configuration Guide pg.28 - delete after install (CAI Plug-in) 390630 2 2 Private-RPC-Socket: 390630 2 2 ITSM 7.0.03 Install Guide pg 59 (7.0 pg 70) But CAI Plug-in Registry no longer uses this queue due to 9003/5 (Approval) 390624 1 1 Approval-RPC-Socket: 390624 Approval Server Loopback - Approval Server Guide pg 40-43 Private 390694 1 1 Private-RPC-Socket: 390694 1 1 AIE Data Exchanges use this thread - Inferred from AIE Docs Ext Private 390698 10 10 Private-RPC-Socket: 390698 10 10 RE-RPC-Socket: 390698 ITSM 7.0.03 Install Guide pg 20 (Minimal details in CMDB Install Cfg pg 172) External Authentication 390695 External-Authentication-RPC-Socket: 390695 QUESTIONS (Finally): 1. How is the Plugin Loopback RPC Program Number _supposed_ to be used, and by which service or services? 2. Which queue is supposed to be reflected in the CAI Plug-in Registry form - the same one specified in the Plugin Loopback RPC Program Number? 3. If the data management tool and CMDB are _both_ set to use the same queue and CAI Plugin, is this why we were seeing problems when trying to run a data management job after hours? BTW, the job ran successfully this morning after 8 AM, without finding something to contend with. Richard, If you force the use of centralized preferences, you can do that and much more in the way of user customization. The mid-tier is either not responding or take quite long to complete. Re: Server Queues to support ITSM, CMDB, and various patches
Hi Chris; I've had 3 successive support calls into BMC regarding this particular error since my AR Server 7.1 upgrade in November. I don't have any answers for you mostly because BMC has no answers for me as yet. The error itself happens sporadically sometimes daily other times weekly and leaving the logs running on a production server hoping for another occurrence doesn't sound like a solid plan as I do have limited space available. I'll keep apprised of our efforts to resolve this issue. Re: Server Queues to support ITSM, CMDB, and various patches
Hi, 2) The CAI should run on a different RPC compared to the plugin look back. I would just choose the next private and put that in the plugin registry for CAI. The look back should be used by the other processes to communicate back to the AR server without the threat of all other fast or list threads being busy. I suspect the reason you saw the 8am run ok is that nobody else was using the CAI? Re: While installing CMDB its not detecting license
HI Uday, Thanks for the reply. There was some problem in Mac address because of that AR server was not able to recognise the licenses. Now i have applied new trail licenses . Every thing is working fine . Thanks for every one. Regards, Salma Uday Joshi wrote: Hi Salma, I have not seen further interaction on this. Re: ARERR 91 Problems
Been there...done that. Let's start with the obvious stuff - is the database remote (since it's Oracle, I'll assume so...). Did you read the white paper on re-configuring Oracle to have LOB/CLOB's in-row? If not do this first - I fought this for a while on multiple servers and this was one part of the fix. We would randomly get ARERR 90 and 91's. A sure way to know if this is the problem is to do server side logging on API, Filter, and SQL. If you see a long gap in the logs where six to sixty seconds go by with absolutely no activity (usually after a +CE but before the -CE in the API log) you'll have a good indication of this being the culprit. We're running MidTier 7.1, Red Hat Linux, Apache/Tomcat against a Solaris 10, Oracle 10g, ARS 7.1patch6 system. This error sometimes occurs when using Midtier. The Midtier and ARS are not configured to use Portmapper protocol and the firewall logs show no denials (there is a firewall between the MidTier and ARS). Thanks for any insight. = 91 Error RPC call failed.
