OOB Indexes on CTM:Site

2009-03-05 Thread Coleman, Gavin
Good morning list - can anyone who uses ITSP tell me what the OOB indexes on
this form are? I have come across a problem with the CFG:Data Wizard and need
to confirm what these indexes are.

Thanks,

Re: Upgrading CMDB 2.0.1 patch 3 to CMDB 2.1.0 ERROR

2009-03-05 Thread Peter Romain
Did you solve this?

Were there any useful messages in any of the files in the Logs folder in
the CMDB install path?

If the server is in admin-only mode then remove this selection and try
again as this will cause the upgrade to fail.

Cheers

Peter

I will give it a crack and let you know if I run into any issues.

Thanks Axton, I will take a look at the docs you provided. So are you
saying that in order to use SiteMinder you have to develop a custom AREA

this is my first exposure to SSO with Mid-tier.

Not endorsing the product, as I've never used it, but there is a good
write-up/illustrations on the page.

It involves writing a custom AREA plug-in as well as customizations to
login.jsp and custom servlets on the mid-tier server. There are BMC
whitepapers on the subject as well, though I have not used them as we
developed the sso solution using a 6.0.1 mid-tier server which did not
have the Authenticator hooks the newer versions of mid-tier have.

We can keep the discussion on the list; other people may have things to
add and things to gain through visibility into the discussion.

This requirement might call for a minor customization where you could store
alternate contact information in a separate form giving each contact a unique
alias so as to identify one from the other, for eg. Home Office, Corporate

My personal feeling is that development forgot to include that arx file within

Yup thats what they told me - I had forgotten where they had directed me to
look at.. Would have made sense for them to push that information in the share
properties table too since they do have entries for DSL there as well.

Re: How to determine update/patch level of DSL?

2009-03-05 Thread Peter Romain
Have you ever tried to update the DSL with a new data patch?

I'm guessing that it will over-write any changes made to the Tier 1-3
values by customers to make the categorisation better.

I'm sure there will also be other work to do to fix manufacturers that
have been deleted/renamed since the last data patch.

Re: How to determine update/patch level of DSL?

2009-03-05 Thread Mark Lev
That's what we're doing now, such a tedious painful process, that I was hoping
to start at the last update, vs, doing them all.

We're completing the install, prior to custom configuration and I suspect we
won't upgrade the DSL afterwards, so this shouldn't be a problem, but see how
it could.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Workflow stops after exiting guide SOLVED

2009-03-05 Thread Joe DeSouza
Dwayne,

When running as an Administrator you probably have the same Admininstrator
UserID and Password on that 'otehr' server while non admin users do not. So the
system probably tries to process whatever it is by connecting to that 'other'
server when running as an Administrator user, while it fails for other users.

If that is the case, try changing the Administrator password on that other
server and it may fail for the Admin user as well..

My two cents..

Cheers

Joe

In the 7.5 doc (It's one of the things I'm looking forward to when we
are able to upgrade)

In previous releases of Migrator, data could be migrated using only the
Admin thread. In this release, you can choose to migrate data using Fast
and List threads, freeing up the Admin thread and enabling data to be
migrated to and from the same server at the same time.

I haven't noticed points 2 and 3 on version 7.1

Dev Studio 7.5 - Graphics

2009-03-05 Thread Ray Palla
Has anyone had success placing a Custom Title Bar Icon or Custom Help Box to
an application in 7.5? When I embed a small 15x15 pixel .jpg into the
Custom Title Bar Icon area, the icon displays in the Dev Studio, but when
saved displays only a black square in the User Tool or on the web. For the
Custom Help Box, it seems that whatever is put in there is resized much
smaller and hence cannot be read when displayed in the client.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Client Timeout

2009-03-05 Thread LJ Longwing
Quick question (hopefully)

ARS 7.1 Server and Mid-Tier

I have a button press that causes a push to happen. This push can sometimes
take in upwards of 5-8 min's to happen, later actions in the AL fail to fire
because of client timeout. The timeout window seems to be about 2 min's
give or take a few secsI'm trying to either extend the timeout, or find
a way to reattach the client to a server side process once it finishes. I'm
considering moving the entire thing server side and just sending the user an
email when it's done...but that's not desired. Any suggestions?...oh...and
I've troubleshot the process...it's not taking too long in any 1
point...it's just an extensive process...it's all internal to
remedy...copying records from location a to location b when needed...but
there can sometimes be 10-20 thousand records that need to be copied...which
just takes a bit of time.

Re: Client Timeout

2009-03-05 Thread Charles Baldi
LJ,
You could do something similar to the way the current Data Load Tool handles
validation and promotion:
- write a command value to a field to flag the process start
- have an escalation do the work (or you can figure out how to send a CAI
message to kick it off :-)
- pop-up a small window showing the status, with an auto-refresh to keep it
updated.

I don't see any way of keeping it synchronous with the client action and not
risk the timeout you describe.

Chuck Baldi

What about having the Push in one active link then the rest of the
actions in the next AL with a higher execution order. I am not sure
if this will get around the timeout though.
Another option would be to put the push in one AL and the other
actions in an AL guide, then call the Guide after the push finishes.
Again, this will need to be tested to see if it gets around the
timeout.

now that's a thought...set a flag on the client...then have a separate
thread change the status...and have a timed AL on the client checking the
status every x seconds...and then give them availability to continue when
the status changesbrilliantthank you.

LJ,
You could do something similar to the way the current Data Load Tool handles
validation and promotion:
- write a command value to a field to flag the process start
- have an escalation do the work (or you can figure out how to send a CAI
message to kick it off :-)
- pop-up a small window showing the status, with an auto-refresh to keep it
updated.

I don't see any way of keeping it synchronous with the client action and not
risk the timeout you describe.

SSL setting for the Mid-tier

2009-03-05 Thread Andrew Fremont
Hi,

This question is off the AR topic, but this is a great forum and place to
all AR related.

We're setting up the Mid-tier for our remedy application for the first time,
so far so good.
After apply the SSL certificate, users are able to access the new web site
with URL https://remedyweb.

However, the non-SSL HTTP port still accessible, URL without the "s", e.g
http://remedyweb...

The question is how disable or turn that the non-SSL URL off, so the
security department will not after us.

Thanks
Andrew

Have this AL that does the push in a AL guide. If you have some way to ID
the last record that has to be pushed, you could have a temp field to identify
if that record has been created via the push.

Loop the guide until that record has been created, and then move forward..

In another project, we put a web page as the default that redirected to the
https: URL.

I also believe, but am not sure how, that you can set up automatic 80 redirect
to 443. This would be dependent upon your web server, more than
Remedy/Mid-Tier.

I did a google search and found quite a few redirect ideas.

One for example:
http://www.pa.msu.edu/services/computing/faq/auto-redirect.html

Further google'ing may help you out too.

Thanks,
Mark

Push a flag to some "Workflow trigger" form. You can then kick off the
big push server side with an escalation (or some other out of process
method).

After the AL push bring up a dialog that does an interval check to see
if the process has completed. User workflow will stop until the dialog
is closed (by your interval check)

Re: How to determine update/patch level of DSL?

2009-03-05 Thread Peter Romain
When I do a new install I start at the latest data patch.

Deselect the option to install the DSL during ITSM installation.

Then just delete all the data in the PDL:ESID staging tables and import
the new data patch as normal.

It does, however, take ages to import and then promote the staging data to
the DSL.

Cheers

LJ,
You could do something similar to the way the current Data Load Tool handles
validation and promotion:
- write a command value to a field to flag the process start
- have an escalation do the work (or you can figure out how to send a CAI
message to kick it off :-)
- pop-up a small window showing the status, with an auto-refresh to keep it
updated.

I don't see any way of keeping it synchronous with the client action and not
risk the timeout you describe.

Not bad. Although, a really nice addition would be if you could add
separate drop-downs to access the common ITSM consoles as well as search
and create requests on common forms (Incidents, Change, etc). This
would allow our users to quickly jump between various ITSM applications
and common actions in Mid-Tier.

Just my two cents on it,

Listers,

IT Prophets would like to announce its first release of RemBar, a FREE
Internet Explorer toolbar for the BMC/Remedy Mid-Tier 7.x.

RemBar's features include the ability to receive real-time Remedy Alerts
via the Mid-Tier (without having to actually refresh the Alerts form)
and the ability to track the login status of the user anytime the user's
Internet Explorer browser is open. With RemBar, even if a user navigates
away from the Mid-Tier, the RemBar status icon lets users know they are
still logged in (and, in most cases, still consuming a floating
license). RemBar adds Mid-Tier logout functionality from the browser
without having to access a Mid-Tier url.

You can download RemBar free from our website:
http://www.itprophets.com/index-5.html. Please view the short videos for
additional information on RemBar.

Re: How to Monitor ArServer.exe on a WIndows Box-

2009-03-05 Thread Matt Reinfeldt
Jase,

I have a BMC Whitepaper titled (it's from 7.0.01): "Automatically Restarting
the AR System Server on Memory Threshold Using AutoRestartARS". I've not
used the program, but it may be available on the developer's network still.
Sounds like a good fit for your needs. Here's the Introduction from the
paper:

Depending on the environment, the AR System server can consume a substantial

amount of memory after a long period of time. (Memory fragmentation can be a

factor.) This can lead to slow server performance. To avoid such performance

issues, the server should be restarted when its usage is low.

The AutoRestartARS application identifies memory usage of the AR System

server, and if it reaches its threshold value, AutoRestartARS shuts down the

server. The ARMonitor service restarts the server.

Good luck,

Matt

**

Hello All,

ArServer 7.1 Patch 002

Windows 2003 SP2

Does anyone know a way to monitor a threshold on arserver.exe on Windows?

I want to be able to be notified when arserver.exe exceeds 1GB of memory
usage, etc.?

I thought someone on the list may already have an incredible solution for
this.

Thanks,

Jase Brandon
