Remedy will not choose five flashboards for you. The first five flashboards
that are viewed by users after server startup will be displayed. 6th and
later flashboard will not load and throw error messages instead.

Re: Problem while integrating Midtier 7.1 with Crystal Report Server XI

2009-03-27 Thread Rod Harris
Hi Salma,

I don't think you're far away. Why did you update the report type form? If
you specify the server correctly in your mid-tier report set up then I don't
think you need to change this.

I would make sure that your reports use the same datasource as the one
defined on the crystal server. I don't use the default data source name as I
use one BOXI server to serve up reports for several different Remedy
servers. I create a system data source for each Remedy server.

I use the default port for web reporting (80) so don't need to specify
anything other than http://crystalserver in the BOXI report server location.
A report (rpt file) is generated in folders beneath the reporting working
directory on the crystal report server. Find out if this report is being
created when you run your report. If it is have a look at it and make sure
that it can be opened and run in crystal.

Like that?

Well considering that as far as know the naming convention is not explained
anywhere in the ITSP or ITSM documentation, I can't see how you can believe
that. Remedy allows you up to 80 characters to name workflow items, and it
seems that ITSP and ITSM does not use all of these characters. My Active Link
workflow has a naming convention as follows

  1.  Prefix for custom work (CC_)
  2.  Form abbreviation (NIM:) - New Incident Console
  3.  Execute on abbreviation (MRC - Menu Row Choice, Btn - Button, WL -
Window Loaded). If more than one Execute on is specified, then the
abbreviation I use is the most relevant
  4.  Name of Button, Table, Field etc (E.g. Btn_OpenIncidentTask)
  5.  Execution Order (-000-)
  6.  Details of Actions (OpenHelpDesk)

 Thus, we get

 CC_NIM:Btn_OpenIncidentTask-000-OpenHelpDesk

If an AL or Filter is part of a guide then I make sure that it is suffixed with
_GUIDE. No execution order is needed as this is defined in the Guide itself.

Thus I have ALs like

CC_NIM:ConsoleView-SelectedGroupsIncident_GUIDE
CC_NIM:ConsoleView-SelectedGroupsTask_GUIDE

Etc.

So then you would scamble through looking at each one to see what each
Active Link in the guide actually does? How about:

HPD-HD-CUS:xxx-1_CheckForExistingCustomer
HPD-HD-CUS:xxx-2_SetCustomerInfoFromContactForm
etc.

Not sure what the other descriptive text could be...but xxx indicates
that it triggers in a guide and nowhere else...I find it easier to
find code if it is clearly labelled.

Its a good naming convention - I won't go so far as to say its the best.

There are a few things in the ITSP naming convention that I personally do not
favor. For eg. AL's found in a guide that are used specifically in the guide
alone and nowhere else.. Why different kind of names for each? Why do we need
to know what each do? As a developer when looking at the list I would rather
see them named as a functional name what the guide does. For eg if the Guide
sets customer information and there are 5 AL's in that guide ordered 1 to 5 I
 would name them something like
 HPD:GuideSetCustomerInfo01
 HPD:GuideSetCustomerInfo02
 HPD:GuideSetCustomerInfo03
 HPD:GuideSetCustomerInfo04
 HPD:GuideSetCustomerInfo05

And name the Guide something like HPD:GuideSetCustomerInfo

This is just one odd example of how it would make it easier for a developer
to trace what someone else has worked on without running workflow logs for
 everything..

As per ITSP naming convention the standard format of an Active Link is:

 [z][SchemaCode]:[#]-[Field Name/Button/Function]-[Firing
 Condition][###E]-[Description]-[IndicatorSuffix][Status]

 Where

z (lowercase) The lowercase z in front of the active link name indicates a
 Global Workflow Filter
Schema Code Schema Code (Reference Schema Code in case of Global Active Link)
 -  3 Uppercase characters (usually the same as the entry-id prefix of the
 schema)
 # Grouping Code:

0 = Initialization (Window Open, Query,  Set Defaults, Display, Copy to New)

 1 = Execution (Submit, Modify)

2 = Post Execution (After Submit, After Modify)

 3 = Close (Window Close)

 4 - 5 (Unassigned/Reserved)

9 = In session (Button, Return, Menu/Row Choice, Gain Focus, Lose Focus0

z = Guide (Active Links Called by Guides only)

###[E] Execution Order (3 digits). Append E if Else Action exists

Description Functional Description of the Workflow performed

 Indicator Suffix E = Error
 N = Note
 W = Warning
 R = Run Process
 Q = SQL
 G = Call Guide
 J### - Goto execution order
PCDE = Push where CDE is the 3 character code

Status + = New Workflow, requires testing (once tested the prefix can be
 removed)
@ = Existing Workflow has been temporarily deactivated
 # = Existing deactivated workflow with the intent of deleting from the system

 HPD:INC: ContactSearch_120_GPn-G

Even though this piece of workflow doesn't exist in ITSP, I think this is the
 breakout.

 HPD Module Name
INC 3 Character Schema Code stored in SYS:Form List (ITSP) and Schema Names
 (ITSM 7)
 ContactSearch Field Name
 120 Execution Order
 Gpn (not sure)
G Indicator Suffix for Call Guide

In my opinion, ITSP followed some best naming conventions.

 Thanks

BMC has to be kidding with their ITSM suite's naming convention...for
 instance:

On the HPD:HelpDesk form, the Customer Search button (inexplicably
called Contact Search even though it is under the Customer Information
section) has several Active Links associated to it (31 or so).  If you
were to go to the list of active links and sort by name, the first one
 that appears is:

When AR System moved to a minimum required Java version of 5.0, we found
that many older versions of app servers did not support Java 5.0.
WebLogic 8.1 is one of those and will support only Java 1.4.

Looking at the Compatibility Matrix Mid-Tier 7.1.0 shows that it works
with BEA Web Logic 9.1, 9.2 and I was hoping that it would be downward
compatible with 8.1.5

The desktop client is not Unicode compliant. It will work but it is dependent

Re: Web Services Error

2009-03-27 Thread Dennis Ruble
Sharon,
I thought maybe you were running midtier 7.0.1 patch 3 or earlier. This
is similar to the error messages we got upgrading from 6.3 to 7.1.
Handling of namespace(xmlns:) changes when crossing the 7.0.1 patch 003
threshold. But, if all your components were beyond this point when it all
was created then that's not what's going on...

Re: Mid-Tier 7.1.0 Web Logic 8.1.5

2009-03-27 Thread Easter, David
It is not on the compatibility matrix.

You just answered your own question. ;-)

At best, use of WebLogic 10 on AR System 7.1.00 would be considered
unconfirmed, which is defined on page 2.

When AR System moved to a minimum required Java version of 5.0, we found that
many older versions of app servers did not support Java 5.0. WebLogic 8.1 is
one of those and will support only Java 1.4.

Is any using this Combination:

ARS 7.1.0, Mid-Tier 7.1.0 and BEA Web Logic and Web Logic Servlet Engine 8.1.5

Looking at the Compatibility Matrix Mid-Tier 7.1.0 shows that it works with BEA
Web Logic 9.1, 9.2 and I was hoping that it would be downward compatible with
8.1.5
Any input would be much appreciated

ARS 7.5 Installation on Linux and JRE Path

2009-03-27 Thread Lyle Taylor
Hi group,

So, we're trying to install ARS 7.5 on SUSE Linux 10 and have run into a hitch.
I installed Java JDK 1.6 Update 13 (the 32-bit version) and used it to run the
installer. The installer starts up just fine until we get to the part where we
need to specify the JRE path. I've tried several different possibilities, but
I always get the message Invalid JRE path. Unfortunately, there's no more
information, so I don't know how it's trying to determine if it's valid, what
errors it may have gotten in its testing, etc. Does anyone know what the
installer expects or how to determine why it thinks it's invalid?

The JDK is installed into /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13. I've tried specifying the
following:

* /opt/java

* /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13

* /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13/bin

* /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13/bin/java

I then took a look at the installer script and noticed that it had jre/bin/java
hardcoded in it, so I tried creating a symlink named jre to the jdk1.6.0_13
directory and tried all the same options above but with jre, and still no dice.
The thing is, it's valid - if it weren't, the installer wouldn't have been
able to run in the first place!

Ideas?

Thanks,
Lyle

Re: Web Services Error

2009-03-27 Thread Thad K Esser
Sharon,

While not exactly the same issue, I recently had to set up ARS (7.1p6) to
consume a web service and was having trouble getting the admin tool to
recognize the WSDL. Turns out I had to configure the admin tool (and the
server) to use a proxy server, because of the
xmlns:soap=http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/; part of the WSDL
definition wanting to go out to the internet.

In AR Admin Tool set Java VM options (allows creation of the filter):
   -Dhttp.proxySet=true -Dhttp.proxyHost=proxyservername
   -Dhttp.proxyPort=proxyport

On AR Server config, set Java VM Options

I've tried specifying the
following:

* /opt/java

* /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13

* /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13/bin

* /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13/bin/java

Ideas?

Thanks,

Lyle

I'm not experiencing ANYTHING yet with 7.5, other than known issue shock when
reading the docs - especially the ITSM 7.5.01 docs. It looks like I have to
get my ITSM 7.0 apps from 007 to 009 before I can try an upgrade, so I won't be
installing ARS or ITSM 7.5 any time real soon.

I just happened to be scanning the 7.5 Release Notes and saw where Users must
install Adobe Flash Player version 9 or later to see any flashboards that use
Adobe Flex technology on a form (SW00302532). The use of Adobe Flex
technology (whatever that is) appears to have introduced several pages of new
compatibility problems into the use of Flashboards, especially for Mac users of
Firefox and Safari. It doesn't look like 7.5.00 Patch 001 addressed too many
of these issues, either.

Sharon,

While not exactly the same issue, I recently had to set up ARS (7.1p6) to
consume a web service and was having trouble getting the admin tool to
recognize the WSDL. Turns out I had to configure the admin tool (and the
server) to use a proxy server, because of the
xmlns:soap=http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/; part of the WSDL
definition wanting to go out to the internet.

In AR Admin Tool set Java VM options (allows creation of the filter):
   -Dhttp.proxySet=true -Dhttp.proxyHost=proxyservername
   -Dhttp.proxyPort=proxyport

On AR Server config, set Java VM Options
User tool: Server Information - Connection Settings - Proxy Server
   Settings for Java VM
   AR.CONF line: ARF-Java-VM-Options: -Dhttp.proxySet=true
   -Dhttp.proxyHost=proxyservername -Dhttp.proxyPort=proxyport

75 Install and Database Administrator username/password

2009-03-27 Thread Lyle Taylor
Hi again all,

My experience with past installers was that if you were creating a new schema
(for Oracle at least) from within the installer, it would prompt your for the
database administrator username and password, but if you already had a schema,
it would instead ask you if you want to overwrite, upgrade or share the
database. For 7.5, our DBA has created a new schema for us to install into,
and in the 7.5 installer, I have entered the server, port and schema login
information and then moved forward. A couple screens later, it then asks me
for the database administrator username and password. Does the 7.5 installer
_always_ ask for this, or does this mean that it may not be able to connect to
the database using the information previously provided, causing it to think
that we're creating a fresh new schema?

Note that one thing we did not do was create a tnsnames entry for the database,
as we are using LDAP. We did, however, create a DNS alias in /etc/hosts that
cause our database name to resolve to the first host in our RAC. Is a TNSNAMES
entry absolutely essential?

Let me know if you need any further information.

Thanks,
Lyle

Re: Web Services Error

2009-03-27 Thread Lammey, Peter A.
It sounds like the User and password being passed is not being validated
correctly.

In the Altiris component that connects to the the WSDL did you define the
Authentication Value correctly? Basically you will need to set the
Authentication to ARSystem and then set the Username and password that you
have in Remedy.

You may also need to set the locale and timezone as well but they might be
optional.

I had seen this problem on and off before but once I turned on Allow Guest

I have found that Altiris Workflow cant seem to ingest the web service into a

He is setting up the Web Service Caller in Altiris which if I understand
correctly connects to the WSDL and then populates the info into the component

Sounds like you need the Language Pack on the workstation running the User
Tool. We were using Oracle and found this to be true. Also, exporting and
importing Japanese data, whi, le using the import tool, also needs the
Japanese Language pack. It probably is already loaded Go to the Control
Panel, under Regional or Language Options to activate it.

Re: 75 Install and Database Administrator username/password

2009-03-27 Thread Nicky Madjarov
Hi,

If you can tnsping your instance you may be in good shape. Since ARAdmin has
been (historically) the only dbo for ARSystem, I'd consider using different db
user name for the 7.5. When you dba created a new schema did he/she changed the
ownership to ARAdmin? I'd totally let the installer create schema and user, and
then, if your dba is not happy, he/she can make changes.

In the Altiris component that connects to the the WSDL did you define the

You may also need to set the locale and timezone as well but they might be

Oh. The web service is down it sounds.
Flush the cache on your Mid Tier web server and restart whatever runs java on

Once you do that then you should be able to view the webservice from the Admin

Re: japanese characters and showing

2009-03-27 Thread Schryver, Curt
We are running 7.0.01 patch 003. We were having similar issues a little over a
year ago and settled on this patch. I don't recall if we saw the issues on the
inbound e-mail, but definitely on the outbound.

Eventually, I did a side-by-side comparison of our Dev server (where we weren't
having the issues) and our Prod server. There were a bunch of language related
DLLs on Dev that weren't on Prod. Note: They were documented as not having
anything to do with the issues we were having, but I was getting desperate so
copied them all over to Prod. I don't have an exact list of them at my
fingertips, but will post them here if/when I find them.

Our problems did go away - can't guarantee that it was from this action.

Hope something here helps...

Re: 75 Install and Database Administrator username/password

2009-03-27 Thread Lyle Taylor
I took a look at the installation log files, and it looks like it's actually
not able to connect to the database to start with, so it probably thinks it
needs to create a new schema, and that's why it's asking for the db
administrator username/password. This is what I'm seeing in the log file:

ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect
descriptor
The Connection descriptor used by the client was
A036:1601:A036

I can tnsping A036 fine. I've also created a tnsnames.ora file for it, just in
case it doesn't like ldap, but based on what I see here, it kind of looks like
it's not even trying to actually look up the service in ldap or tnsnames. It
looks like it's just going straight to the server and port and passing it this
connect string, or something like that. The connect string appears to be in
this format:

server:port:db instance

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lyle

Thanks,
Lyle

Tim,

Is the email incoming or outgoing?

In our case we have 7.0.1 installed on Oracle. The email engine is sending our
outgoing messages in Japanese and Chinese without any issue.

However if memory servers me correctly, we did have to update the version of
the email engine from one of the early patch levels and an issue that we were
seeing sending Japanese seemed to go away.

That is fine in a sense, they can use the web.

When I pass data via sql job into the system, it comes over as ???, or if I
send an email with japanese it comes in as

How can I correct data coming in? Any data sent via a web service works great
in Japanese. Email or SQL job,

The desktop client is not Unicode compliant. It will work but it is dependent
on the OS version and locale settings in the desktop client.

client I get ?? marks, anyone know what I am missing on the client side.

I also did a new install of 7.1 to test client and still ?? on client, but web
works like a charm.

Any info would be great.

SLM Question

2009-03-27 Thread Shafqat Ayaz
Hi All

I have a question on SLM. On our system we have two companies, the SLA is
currently only implemented for one company. Ok the question
In about 5% of the Incidents the SLM Status field is not getting updated
properly. The SLM Status field shows No Service Target Assigned, even though
the table above the Service Targets table shows, the targets being met or
missed or whatever correctly. The SLM Module seems to be working properly, the
appropriate notifications are being sent out properly, but the SLM Status field
is not getting updated properly.
Anyone have any ideas why this should be happening. Also in some instances when
the ticket is assigned from one company to another and back again, sometimes
the SLM Status field shows No Service Target Assigned, although there should
be. It looks like, say that the SLA is defined for company A and not company B.
when a ticket is assigned to company A, the SLA gets attached, when it is
re-assigned to company B it gets detached, but if the ticket is then
re-assigned back to company A, the SLA does not get attached properly.

Any ideas or suggestions would as always be most welcome.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: ARS 7 Audit Form

2009-03-27 Thread Shafqat Ayaz
Hi
Go to Form/Form Properties/Audit and click enable. also select the type of
Audit you want in the field Audit Style. in the form name enter a form name, if
it is a form audit then enter the name in the Audit Form name, if it is Log
style audit then enter the form name in the Log Form field. if the form does
not exist, a new form with that name will be created. You can specify a
qualification if you want for the Audit to happen.
Look in the manual:Forms and Application Objects chapter Audit on page 389

If you need any further help, drop me a line

thanks

Recently my customer upgraded to SLM 7.1 Patch 1.. i have seen this No
Service Target Assigned scenario that you have explained...

In my case when the SLM measuremnt staus is Warning it would change the
SLM status to No Service Target Assigned this is a known issue .. check
with BMC support for KB and Fix in this regard.

for your other problem
*when a ticket is assigned to company A, the SLA gets attached, when it is

i would check the Terms and condition of the Service target.. check if
it includes company A... in case it is there in the TC you need to modify
the TC to accomodate company B
