Re: OT-Domain Name Change

That's my understanding about how it works...any name you want the server to
recognize as 'self'...should go in the config under that parameter.

Thad,

This is a great idea. We have two servers, one active and one passive.
We use a virtual name and IP to access our environment. So in each .cfg file
I just add the same information for both, correct?

Maybe using "IP-Name" would help accommodate the new domain without having
to change your server name?

>From the configuring guide:
-
IP-Name

A parameter used to specify that a server has multiple names. The parameter
can appear in the ar.conf (ar.cfg) file more than one time.
When checking workflow and connections against itself, the server will
compare its server name, host name, IP aliases, and any names given by the
IP-Name parameter to the name passed to it. If the name matches any of
those, the server will conclude that the workflow or connection is for
itself.

The IP-Name parameter can be used for servers with variable length domains
or for servers on machines with multiple internet addresses. For example, to
allow connection to a machine named tix as tix, tix.company.com, or
tix.eng.company.com, an administrator would have three IP-Name entries, one
for each of the connection names.
To allow connection to a machine with multiple internet addresses like
tix.company.com, tix.biggercompany.com, and tix.evenbigger.com, an
administrator would create an IP-Name entry for each of those names.

never heard or used the term "fat client" - when ARWeb first came out it was
billed as the "thin client" in contradistinction to the "thick client" WUT.

Back in the good old days of the UNIX-only server version, there was an ASCII
client.  Otherwise known as the anorexic client.

Hi Gang.

I have an application that I'm building for use on Mid-Tier, and for
some reason that I cannot determine, a simple active link (which returns
user info from CTM:People on ) works perfectly when I test it in
the WUT, but refuses to work on the web. From what I can tell from the
A/L behavior, the Set Fields search qualification fails on the web (and
thus, the user data fields are set to NULL).

Granted, I don't do much programming specifically for Mid-Tier, so this
has me baffled.

- ARS 7.1 Patch 6
- Mid-Tier 7.1
- Windows 2003 servers all around

Any quick ideas?

2009-04-17 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

We are currently on an Exchange mail server. We are moving to Lotus
Notes. This change has been a real challenge (or nightmare). To top it
off, this is a SSL connection.
We did create the mailbox configuration with the SSL set to "yes". But of
course nothing is working since we did not update the cacerts file with
the appropriate certificate.
We are trying to get some information on how to do this with BMC but they
keep referring us to the email engine installation guide which in return
only has information about MS Exchange.
It also says to use keytool that comes with java to import the
certificate. Great! Found it... But we can't figure out how to use it.
Is it the Lotus notes client certificate that is found on the client in
C:\Program Files\notes\jvm\lib\security? or the application itself? Where
do I get this? I am working with the lotus notes team which has no clue
what I'm talking about.
Can anyone guide us?

How do I update/modify the cacerts file found in the java path?

thanks for any help!

Subject: 64-bit AR Server for Windows
**
Hi BMC Folks on the List,

Does one of you know when (or if) BMC is planning on releasing a 64-bit version
of the ARS platform for Windows? For example, is that something that we might
be able to expect later sometime this year, or perhaps not until the next major
release, etc.? We were in the process of planning a migration from Windows to
Linux to get the 64-bit processes, but just found out that it looks like RKM is
still not supported on SUSE Linux which kind of throws a wrench in our plans...

Thanks,
Lyle Taylor

Re: 64-bit AR Server for Windows

2009-04-17 Thread Easter, David
It's the next release after the current release which is 7.5.00. i.e. there
aren't any AR System releases currently planned between now and that release.
Sorry, I can't get into version numbers.

By next release, do you mean ARS 8, or is it more something like 7.5.1 or 7.6?

A 64-bit native Windows version of the AR System server executable is
tentatively expected for the next release of AR System. The timeframe for that
release will probably not fall within CY2009, but would be tentatively expected
to be available in early 2010..

Maybe using "IP-Name" would help accommodate the new domain without
having
to change your server name?

>From the configuring guide:
-
IP-Name

A parameter used to specify that a server has multiple names. The
parameter can appear in the ar.conf (ar.cfg) file more than one time.
When checking workflow and connections against itself, the server will
compare its server name, host name, IP aliases, and any names given by
the IP-Name parameter to the name passed to it. If the name matches any
of those, the server will conclude that the workflow or connection is
for
itself.

The IP-Name parameter can be used for servers with variable length
domains or for servers on machines with multiple internet addresses. For
example, to allow connection to a machine named tix as tix,
tix.company.com, or tix.eng.company.com, an administrator would
have three IP-Name entries, one for each of the connection names.
To allow connection to a machine with multiple internet addresses like
tix.company.com, tix.biggercompany.com, and tix.evenbigger.com,
an administrator would create an IP-Name entry for each of those names.

I wouldn't expect much of an impact then. I believe your main impact
will
be client connections. This includes any web service integrations you
may
have. Any thing connecting to your servers either native or web will
need
to know the new fqdn, unless all of your connections use the short name,
in
that case you wouldn't need to do anything other than update the
DNS...do
you have many 3rd party integrations?

Error adding field to join form

2009-04-17 Thread Dwayne Martin
Dear List,

I am trying to add two database fields to the Asset Management Module
“AST:ComputerSystem” form. This is a three-layer join form, which starts by
joining “BMC:BMC_ComputerSystem_” with “BMC:BMC_AssetBase” to get
“BMC:BMC_ComputerSystem.”

When I add the fields to either of the two base forms I get:
“Creation of one of the SQL views for the form failed within the SQL database.
Operation completed successfully, but the SQL view is not in place. (ARWARN
69).”
First sign of trouble.

When I go to “BMC:BMC_ComputerSystem” and try to bring the fields into that
form I get:
“Field : Equipment Status [the name of the new field] :
The value(s) for this entry violate a unique index that has been
defined for this form (ARERR 382).” and “Some field could not be saved in this
form.”

There are no errors in the SQL log.

To make things still more complicated, there are fields that I added to
“BMC:BMC_AssetBase” in a previous project that I can bring into
“BMC:BMC_ComputerSystem” with no problem.

Both “BMC:BMC_AssetBase” and “BMC:BMC_ComputerSystem” have indexes on
InstanceId. What index might they be talking about?

Any suggestions?

2009-04-17 Thread LJ Longwing
I think that would be useful if the old domain name was going to be still in
existence, that way the server would know itself by both names and eliminate
issue with the server not knowing itselfbut due to the fact that the
original domain name is going away, there is no need for the server to know
itself as that name.

RESOLVED: Custom Approval Question

2009-04-17 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I found the solution using BMC's knowledge base (which isn't working with IE 6
for me but is working with Firefox if anyone else is having issues.) I'm not
happy that I had to create a field in the reserved range of field ids, but it
worked and that is what matters for now.

In this case, the customer had created a field in the custom range (536870917
field ID) on the application form and had added it to both of the joins for the
approval server - the two way join between the application form and AP:Detail
and the 3-way join between the application form and AP:Detail-Signature. We
restarted the approval server and set the Definition Check Interval to 0,
however, there was no change.

What fixed this was to use a field in the Remedy Reserved range. Customer
created a field ID in the reserved range and used this for the first approver
and this worked.

Subject: Custom Approval Question

**
Good morning,

Based on everyone's feedback a few days ago, I decided against using the Change
Manager field to do approvals by testers. I set up a new field and have that
being populated correctly, but there is an issue I am getting with trying to
set up that user as an approver.

Basically, I set up an ad-hoc process (the only one being used at this time)
and modeled it after how the Change Manager field can be set up for ad hoc
approvals. Everything seems to be correct, except that when I go into the
logs, I see the following error when it tries to find the first approver.

Process a 'New-Details' command
Working with process Change Requsted For Approval

Approval operation completed -- master record updated
Operation cancelled due to error (ARAPPNOTE 4502)
New-Details - CHG:Infrastructure Change - CRQ2074
Delete pending item -- 0996386

Any suggestions on how this can be addressed? I'm thinking I have to add my
new field somewhere else, but it's on CHG:Infrastructure Change and even the
three way form for approvals so I can show other approvers who did the testing.
 Where else should it go?

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Thanks Janie. We got this working in the wee hours of the morning. We
had started archiving on the Email Messages form a few days ago. So
after hearing what you've said we think that after the Oracle db
password was reset Remedy was seeing those strange aliases on the Email
Messages form and was confused, because it started working as soon as we
sat the aliases to match the form name.

Do you have an archive or backup form of AR System Email Messages? Or
any other form with the word 'Email' in it, other than the AR System
forms? I've seen where the email engine identifies a different form for
Email Messages and that causes issues. This often happens after an App
restart when some type of action has occurred with the DB. I've found
that removing the 'other' form and stopping/starting ARS and Email will
fix that issue, but not sure if that's the issue your having.

I have seen this in the past with a couple of Customers, ended up being
corruption of the form/fields. There is a switch you put in the ar.cfg
(ar.conf)

That will "recreate" (import) the forms on a restart.

Re: Couldn't locate the Email form - ARERR 9801

2009-04-17 Thread Janie Sprenger
Do you have an archive or backup form of AR System Email Messages? Or any
other form with the word 'Email' in it, other than the AR System forms?
I've seen where the email engine identifies a different form for Email
Messages and that causes issues. This often happens after an App restart
when some type of action has occurred with the DB. I've found that removing
the 'other' form and stopping/starting ARS and Email will fix that issue,
but not sure if that's the issue your having.

Making the fat client thinner

2009-04-17 Thread Meyer, Jennifer L
Reinstall the fat client.

Whenever you feel it's becoming a bit, err, voluptuous, search on C:/ for *.arf
and *.arv and delete everything that comes up. DO NOT delete ar.ini. This
will send your favorites and recent searches to the recycle bin, but it will
fix any issues you have if you've inadvertently hosed your views.

I need help now. I had the fat client installed on my PC, and thought I would
be a nice guy and help it lose some weight. So I deleted the contents of the
C:\Home directory and C:\Program Files\AR System\User\resdlls\ which did make
it thinner, but now it doesn't work.

Any suggestions? Is the best way to help the fat client lose weight exercise?
I run my fat client every day and if anything it gets larger with all the cache
downloaded for the different forms.

Re: SQL statement

2009-04-17 Thread Ashton, Jim (JUS)
The following works for SQL Server in a similar situation. Not sure
what the corollary to "OPENDATASOURCE" is for Oracle.

SELECT X.* FROM OPENDATASOURCE('Microsoft.jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Data Source=\\usranfb\transfer\Shopinfo\shopdetail.mdb;
Jet OLEDB:Database Password=;')... X
WHERE SHOP_PFCNTR = $Shop number$

is an optional database level password - if there is no
database password on the .mdb file I think you can omit the entire "Jet
OLEDB:Database Password=;" phrase.

is the name of the table containing the SHOP_PFCNTR field
in your Access database.

Hope this helps,
Jim.

Approval operation completed -- master record updated
Operation cancelled due to error (ARAPPNOTE 4502)
New-Details - CHG:Infrastructure Change - CRQ2074

Any suggestions on how this can be addressed? I'm thinking I have to add my
new field somewhere else, but it's on CHG:Infrastructure Change and even the
three way form for approvals so I can show other approvers who did the testing.
 Where else should it go?

Thanks,

No, see, that's no good beacuse it infers the existence of a "smart" client.

You know, a client that will fill out most of the fields on a form for you, get
you coffee, ask your boss for a raise and tell you it can't open the pod bay
doors now.

Axton,

I think I was more like this:

RemedyWeb was the "thick web client" (applet based), (AKA "Fat web client")

ARWeb was the "thin web client" (DHTML/Javascript based)

WUT was the v4 Windows User Tool (Maybe also called the "FAT client".
Note it is fatter than the Fat web client by two more capital sized
letters.)

You also had to deal with the UUT. (Un*x User Tool). However, you
might also have called it the "OMUT" OSF/Motif User Tool too. But as I
only used it a few times I really do not want to try to remember it in
a negative way. Rather I will choose to focus on the positive
memories It's dead.

Then you also had to deal with the MUT. (Macintosh User Tool, was that
v3? or just v2?) Which I would call a "FAt client". (Not quite as fat
as the "FAT client", but fatter than the Fat web client by one capital
letter.)

Did I forget any clients? I thought that there was an ARS Shell out
there too, but I can not seem to find it right now. :(

WUT is actually an old name that has been around for a long time.
Probably was used much more in the past than fat/thin client.

be a nice guy and help it lose some weight.

Custom Approval Question

2009-04-17 Thread Pierson, Shawn

Create a new Approval Detail record
created new entry with ID 0004222
Check auto-approve rules
Checking for Signature Collector Rules
Skip self-approve rules as approval request not from originator of
entry
Check for self-assign as approval not initiated by owner
   Option set to never self-assign
Get first approver
 * Field specified for first approver is not defined on the form
Field specified for first approver is not defined on the form (ARAPPERR
4603)
536871244
Set approval details record for this entry to state Error
Clean all related support entries attached to detail record
Perform done rules
Process done rule Change Requested - Error
--> Match -- done rule applied
Starting processing of set fields operation
  TempApprovalServerResult (301311800) = Error
  Change Request Status (7) = 5
  Status Reason (100150) =
  Active Approval (103278) =

Process done rule Change Requested - Cancelled

Process done rule Change Requested - Rejected

Approval operation completed -- master record updated
Operation cancelled due to error (ARAPPNOTE 4502)
New-Details - CHG:Infrastructure Change - CRQ2074
Delete pending item -- 0996386

Any suggestions on how this can be addressed? I'm thinking I have to add my
new field somewhere else, but it's on CHG:Infrastructure Change and even the
three way form for approvals so I can show other approvers who did the testing.
 Where else should it go?

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Hi Jorge...

We are currently using the Abydos Designer & Analyzer for a major
client (just over a year now). Both products are great.

Let me know what you are trying to do & I can tell you if the product
is right for your needs.

Re: Etiquette Question: Is Fat Client offensive?

2009-04-17 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I need help now. I had the fat client installed on my PC, and thought I would
be a nice guy and help it lose some weight. So I deleted the contents of the
C:\Home directory and C:\Program Files\AR System\User\resdlls\ which did make
it thinner, but now it doesn't work.

Any suggestions? Is the best way to help the fat client lose weight exercise?
I run my fat client every day and if anything it gets larger with all the cache
downloaded for the different forms.

Re: Etiquette Question: Is Fat Client offensive?

2009-04-17 Thread Carey Matthew Black

[ It is Friday right? :) ]

Dear Zaheer:
We had the same issue. We fixed it by turning off the Brie server. A
couple of months later we went through the entire list of work for the Brie

of the problem), and restarted the Brie server.
It has run quietly ever since.

Sorry can't help it but say that is a really bad solution for generating unique
values.. Why not use a combination of first name, last name plus another unique
value like maybe the birthday and zip code or something to generate that unique
value? You would have a far greater chance for two John Smiths not to be born

First Name | Last Name | Customer ID | entry id

John | Smith | 2| 124
John | Simmons | 3| 125
John | Simmons | 4| 126

John | Smith | JohnSmith | 124
John | Simmons | JohnSimmons | 125

But The Customer ID must be a unique value, so this rule generates that exists
on the system duplicate records.

I need to find a SQL statement that:

* Identify duplicate records.
* Let set as Customer ID the entry id value

I'm usign sybase 13, actually i have sql sentences to give the

returns more than 1 row.

Any thoughts?
