RESOLVED: Authentication Issue

2009-07-27 Thread Frank Caruso
Turning off chaining fixed our issue. It now fails if the user is not
in the User form.

Thank you.

Hi All
I am trying to find out some kind of optimal time responses for my ITSM 7
system.
I realize that it depends on a heck of lot of variables but let us for the time
being assume all other factors being the same, what kind of response times do
you get on your systems when

You click on say for example Requestor Console from the home page
Click on the Incident Managment Console
Click on Search from the Incident Management Console
Try to create a new request starting from the home page

if any of you have ever timed these operations and would not mind sharing the
data I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks in advance

Re: Discussion Topic: ITSM 7.0.3 Response times

2009-07-27 Thread Lyle Taylor
I've had the opposite experience in many cases. However, I've found that there
are often significant differences between the web client and the user tool. In
my experience, once the web client has cached the forms being accessed, it is
often faster than the user tool to bring them up. For example, in our
environment, it can take upwards of 15-30 seconds to open the Incident
Management Console in the user tool, while it comes up within a couple seconds
in the web client. I've seen similar issues with the Asset Management Console.
At my last position, it would often take about 12 seconds to load in the user
tool but came up faster once cached in the web client. The difference is even
more noticeable over lower bandwidth connections including WANs to distant
locations.

Other than that, things really aren't the same; the network topology and speed
and the client used really can have a very significant impact on response times.

Re: Apache Tomcat Memory Pool

2009-07-27 Thread Joe DeSouza
"- This idea sounds good. Yes there is a table field in this application
where all the requests will be displayed as in the overview console. Is it
in the field properties of the table field I have to check for the server
details if any?"

No - what I would do is export that form, either as an xml def (preferably an
xml def as those are more easily editable) and check for 'hardcoded' server
names.. Server names in definitions should appear as @ instead of the real
server name value. If you export the definition as a xml file, look for the tag
and you will find the value in that tag..

If you do find hardcoded server names that should not have been hardcoded, then
you will need to clean that up - replace that name with @ if that piece of
workflow or tablefield or object is referencing the current server.

If you do have workflow that points to another server, then make sure that the
server it is pointing to, is contactable from your development box that you are
having an issue with..

CMDB 7.5

2009-07-27 Thread Narayanan, Radhika
Hi List,

In Atrium Explorer 7.5, I'm unable to view the lines marking
MemberofCollection, ElementLocation and Impact relationships. However,
I'm able to view the lines corresponding to Component and Dependency
relationships.

It is strange that the CIs are listed correctly in the Atrium Explorer.
I only can't see the lines connecting the CIs. And the problem only
appears to be with 3 relationships - MemberofCollection, ElementLocation
and Impact!

Environment: Windows 2003, ARS 7.5, Atrium CMDB 7.5 Patch 1

Thanks

Re: Authentication Issue

2009-07-27 Thread LJ Longwing
I believe what you want is

Allow Guest Users - Unchecked
Cross Reference Blank Passwords - Checked
Authenticate Unregistered Users - Unchecked

This will tell the system (the last one) that if they aren't in the user
form, they would be guest and you don't want them in the system (the first
one). If they have a user account, and the password is blank, use AREA to
authenticate.

This is the configuration we are using and it works well...we don't have
Chaining turned on, we are using 'old school' of ARS-AREA.

ARS 7.1p5 on Windows

Using Windows domain to validate users with a blank password. Have
Authentication Chaining Mode setup as ARS-OS-AREA and to not Allow Guest
Users.

Authentication is working as expected except for users who are on the domain
but DO NOT have a Remedy user record. They are authenticated and then
allowed to access Remedy as a guest user - we have told the system to not
allow guest users. I've tried different combinations of authentication
settings but cannot get ARS to reject the users who do not have a Remedy
account. This confuses many users as they appear to be allowed to access
Remedy but then do not see any links on the Home page.

Is it possible to configure ARS so that domain authenticated users are not
allowed access if they do not have a Remedy user record?

Thank you.

There are some known issues with some of the upper level releases. I
would
recommend staying down in the _6 or less. Some of the new ones will work
but
some won't, so again if you want to be sure stay at _6 or less.

Re: Submitter Mode 'Changeable' for CMDB 2.1 p005 patch?

2009-07-27 Thread Savant, don...@cio
Thanks for the tip Michael. As it turns out, our issue was limited to the
actual patch upgrade process itself and we did get past it by temporarily
changing Submitter Mode to 'Changeable' and then back again. We have been
successfully creating assets in 7.1 with mode=locked for some time now so
obviously we've got the patch you mention. But this is the first time we've
encountered the lock issue on an install/upgrade, especially when the
instructions don't say anything about it. Thanks again! - Don

I had a similar problem. We could not create Assets after upgrading to
ITSM 7.1 in Submitter-Locked mode, and it turns out that a single filter
needs to be modified/replaced.

That was some time ago, so I don't recall exactly which one, but BMC
tech support is aware of it and can send you the updated filter if you
call them. I also believe this is addressed in a subsequent patch.

We're on CMDB 2.1 p003; while applying p005, we receive an error that
indicates we should change Submitter Mode from Locked to Changeable.
However, this is not identified as a prerequisite for the patch and
hasn't been for any previous patches we've applied. Has anyone
encountered this? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Kelly,
I am a customer that you mentioned that has installed BOXI as part of the BMC Analytics install. With that scenario, if I upgraded the OEM version to Premium, could I then use that platform for MID-TIER reporting?

I checked with Engineering and yes my statements are true. There are several customers using the option. For those who already have Premium it allows BMC Analytics to just snap in. For those who start using BO by purchasing BMC Analytics, they can go to SAP for an upgrade and save significatly upgrading the OEM version of BOXI Professional to BOXI Premium. Once upgrade, they can use BOXI license to implement Analytics, Crystal and several other cool reporting options.

Tim, BMC believes the issue you are having is that BO gave you a Professional License, not a Premium license. They are going to contact you.

Yes, using Premium is a supported option and does get you access to both Analytics and Crystal Web. If you are having problems with the install, contact support. It is supported - http://media.cms.bmc.com/documents/BMC_Analytics_2_5_01Compatibility-Matrix_v1.pdf and this was the plan for how our customers could leverage BOXI more effectively. We routinely have customers buy Analytics then upgrade from Professional to Premium so the can use Crystal Web.

Adding to an older existing thread (with new subject) since some of the previous posts may be relevant:

We’re trying to reduce the BOXI installs in our environment in order to free up servers.

Ok, you can’t use the limited BOXI that comes with Analytics as your Mid-Tier reporting engine. Fine.

I’ve seen several posts about the Analytics BOXI not working with MT/Crystal, but found nothing regarding the full BOXI working for Analytics.

SO if you own the full BOXI Enterprise Premium R2 SP2 (which works with MT), can it work with Analytics?

Anybody gotten that configuration to work?

We having issues with this in that when using the full BOXI Enterprise Premium R2 SP2 (11.5), the Analytics Universe will not install.

BOXI that comes with BMC Analytics is for use with BMC Analytics ONLY. You can't use it as your Crystal Report Server. The version that comes with BMC Analytics is Business Objects Professional. Professional limits use to ONE BO module. To use with mutliple modules (analytics and reporting) you have to purchase the upgrade to BO Premium from SAP.

2009-07-27 Thread Henderson, Danielle R CNTR
Norm,
That has been my understanding as well. I have been a Administrator for
about 4 years now. I work alone but when there is a development work
required we bring in a developer or a team of them. I have worked with
several different developers over the years and they can easliy replace
me(sadly), but my management does not want to spend 100K or more for
that support. I have seen several posting with the roles reversed. I
think this is due to HR personnel listing the req. They do not know what
level they actually need on site. They may want to look at the BMC
description of each. I have had to explain this several times to my
management.

That's not the food chain as I always understood it. I've always
understood it thusly:

Remedy Architect
Remedy Developer
Remedy Administrator

Notice the administrator is at the bottom of the food chain. I've always
also envisioned that the developer typically can fill the role of
administrator but not the other way around. Developing applications just
takes a greater skill set.

Authentication Issue

2009-07-27 Thread Frank Caruso
ARS 7.1p5 on Windows

Using Windows domain to validate users with a blank password. Have
Authentication Chaining Mode setup as ARS-OS-AREA and to not Allow
Guest Users.

Authentication is working as expected except for users who are on the
domain but DO NOT have a Remedy user record. They are authenticated
and then allowed to access Remedy as a guest user - we have told the
system to not allow guest users. I've tried different combinations of
authentication settings but cannot get ARS to reject the users who do
not have a Remedy account. This confuses many users as they appear to
be allowed to access Remedy but then do not see any links on the Home
page.

Is it possible to configure ARS so that domain authenticated users are
not allowed access if they do not have a Remedy user record?

Thank you.

Frank
