I faced similar issues with data imports using AIE. To get around limitations
of AIE, I create SQL views and perform data manipulation using SQL functions
such as convert, dateadd etc. Once the view is created, simply point the AIE
job to the view and perform simple field and sql column mappings.

Hope this helps.

 Hello everyone,

I have a table on a remote database (SQL Server 2005) whose data we are
reading to a local form in Remedy. One of the columns in the remote table is
of type INTEGER. The target column in the remedy form is of type character. I

I have perhaps missed something but the only one I could see is the SQL| and

How to write the value of an editable column into the database using a filter guide?

2009-10-27 Thread Mark Milke
Hi Listers,

I'm on ARS 6.3.

I have a Table Field with one editable column.

While the user is saving the main record, I do a filter loop on it and
try to push the values of the column into the base form. This isn't
working however.

To track the problem down, I've build a message into the filter inside
of the Filter Guide and the filter shows that the value of the
editable columns is null. The message show correct values of the non-
editable columns though.

Is it possible to use a filter guide to write the values of an
editable column into the database?

Good Morning Mark,

I have not tried to do this with a filter but have with an active link where I
can change the Status. In my case I simple execute on a lose focus, set field
where $Column2 $='Request ID' AND $Column5$ != 'Status'. I would think it would
work just as well on modify. Since what you are doing is a little more complex
you might have to use an active link guide to walk the table.

Subject: Task Flow bugs corrected

**

All,

For anyone who is using the Task Flow engine in Change Management in
more than a trivial way, you may have encountered bugs that prevent a
built flow from behaving as expected. We did. After several unhelpful
and time-wasting discussions with BMC support, we tracked-down and fixed
a handful of bugs in the Task Flow engine.

Context: ITSM 7.0.03, patch 008.

Hoping this may be useful to others, here are the corrections that we
made and why.

1. Filter TMS:TAS:Bypassed_MarkFlowTo_NotFollowed
The If Action - Push Fields was setting the Flow Status to Flow
Followed rather than Flow Not Followed as its name says. This was
causing a flow that should be bypassed appear as if it was still active.
The correction was to modify the Push Fields to set Status = Flow Not
Followed

== This was the principle bug we found. Fixing this caused the bypass
of Task Groups to function properly.

2. Filter TMS:FLW:Bypassed_TaskEvaluate`!
The Run If qualification was looking for Status = Flow Followed to
check for bypassed rather than Flow Not Followed. No doubt this bug
was hidden because of the first one above (or created because the first
one could not be found.) The correction was to change the Run If
condition to check for Status = Flow Not Followed.

3. Filter TMS:TGR:Bypassed`!
This filter was not properly setting the DO variable zTmpInternal when
a Task Group within another Task Group was being bypassed. When this
happened the change of Status to Bypassed was being interpreted as a
user input change which caused the filter TMS:SHR:Inactive_StatusLock
to generate an error. This caused all pending flow updates to roll back
leaving the flow unusable. The correction was to add zTmpInternal =
Yes to the third Push Fields If Action.

4. Filter TMS:FLW:CheckForOtherFailedFlows
I consider this a defect. In a merged flow (i.e., a Task with multiple
input flows) if ANY input flow was bypassed, this filter caused the task
and all downstream flows to also be bypassed. This is not the behavior
I expect. When I have Flow To Successor when = All Complete (in the
flow definition) I consider a bypassed input flow to be a completed
flow. Therefore if any input is closed normally, then the
multiple-input task should be activated normally. The multiple-input
task should only be bypassed if ALL inputs are bypassed. This is
important because using Any Complete in the flow is not an adequate
solution. I want the multi-input task to activate only when all inputs
are completed or bypassed. Setting the flow to Any Complete would
allow the task to fire prematurely. The correction was to DISABLE the
filter.

5. Filter TMS:SHR:varSetNameAsSourceForLabel. Despite what its help
text says, this was only setting the source field for a data label if
the data variable was an OUTPUT. We need the labels to be set when they
are INPUT as well. My correction was to copy the filter and add the
opposite condition, in this case ('zTmpVariableID' != $NULL)

I hope this saves someone some time and pain.

Regards,
Chuck Baldi

Re: Looking for ways to validate or lock down and then audit foundation data changes

2009-10-27 Thread Ben Chernys
Meta-Update will allow you to validate the foundation data (not lock it
down).

You would simply generate a report of the foundation data on two different
servers and then do a diff between these reports.

In fact with Meta-Update, there is no need to lock down foundation data.
Foundation data elements can be merged from one server to another by
functional groups irrespective of guids, request ids, and all other hidden
fields within the foundation data schema set.

There is nothing currently that would let you do that within the framework
of the application as it comes out of the box.

Even the Audit function available with the ARS Server post version 6.3, will
not really do what you want. What you require calls for customization.

Since you say you want to validate foundation data change, you would
probably need to build another front-end and a duplicate respository to
every piece of foundation data you want to validate before updating. The
data you want to update could be set up as a ticket in this duplicate
repository, which could be reviewed by some sort of a approval team, and
given the green flag commited to the actual foundation form that it belongs
to.

The repository containing suggested updates to the foundation data could
then hold the audit information as it would contain information of what that
record was updated to over time..

Good morning, afternoon and evening all,

Here is a question posed to BMC with no response so far. As we know all of
the ITSM 7 foundation data has been placed in a number of different forms
with no way of placing this data some type of lock down or good audit trail
(other then the last one who modified the record).

So my question to the greatest and most intelligent group of Remedy
programmers that exists in this world or any world (if you believe that
there is Remedy in other worlds), is How to audit and validate changes to
all foundation data and where is all of the data stored?

That is if an audit of all changes to all foundation data is requested, how
could anyone provide that information, without modifying the system?

I was asked the question and had some programming ideas, but the customer is
trying to stay out of the box.

As always thanks,

Submitter of an Ad-Hoc Approval Record

2009-10-27 Thread Kevin Shaffer

CM 7.5

I have a need to identify who created an ad-hoc approval record when an ad-hoc
approval record is added to a change record. The ad-hoc approval records are
created using the Application-Command Approval Add-Sig command. The
submitter of the approval record (AP:Signature) is always showing Remedy
Application Service in the Submitter field. Is there another place that
stores who actually submitted the approval record or will I need to customize
to capture $USER$.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Open an existing change

2. Click on Approvers Tab

3. Click the Add button

4. Populate the Individual/Group

5. Click Save.

Goal: I want to report on the user that clicked the Add button (submitted the
approval record).

I hope I am just missing something obvious here. TIA

I would agree with Mark. I've always considered editable table fields a
'client' thingI wouldn't personally expect them to be available to

Hi Listers,

I'm on ARS 6.3.

I have a Table Field with one editable column.

While the user is saving the main record, I do a filter loop on it and try
to push the values of the column into the base form. This isn't working
however.

To track the problem down, I've build a message into the filter inside of
the Filter Guide and the filter shows that the value of the editable columns
is null. The message show correct values of the non- editable columns
though.

Is it possible to use a filter guide to write the values of an editable
column into the database?

Mark,
This cannot be done through a Filter Guide. You will need to use an Active Link
guide. The value in an edited column only exists on the client until some
action is taken to push the value to the database. Since the value in the

Re: Submitter of an Ad-Hoc Approval Record

2009-10-27 Thread Tommy Morris
The submitter of the new approval will always be Remedy Application
Server, that is why you can use the Approval Engine to modify records
(through approval engine process') without the need to have a licensed
user. You will have to add a field and capture $USER$. Question is where
do you put the field? The Approval Central and out-of-Box approval table
field in the Approvals tab (specifically on a CRQ form) point to the
three-way join.

If you build the new field on AP:Signature then you will have to need to
run arjoinfix.exe to sync the new field and then add it to the three-way
join in order to display the data. If you are just running a report
instead of presenting a viewable column then you can just add it
AP:Signature and create a report.

Nice and simple huh? The Approval Engine is a beast but once you really
get into it you can use it to do some neat things without a need for new
licenses.

That explains why editable table fields do not work with in Remedy User

not recognize any value in an editable column.

Server Crash - Event requires attention Permission Denied

2009-10-27 Thread jaimie
Hi Everyone,

We added more memory to our server this past weekend. Since then the
server keeps crashing at odd moments. What we found in the
arerror.log was this:

Stacks:
Mon Oct 26 20:30:35 2009 : Action Request System(R) Server Version
7.1.00 Patch 007 200904160530
(c) Copyright 1991-2007 BMC Software, Inc.
Mon Oct 26 20:30:53 2009 Dispatch : Cannot establish a network
connection to the AR System server ( : RPC: Miscellaneous tli
error
- event requires attentionPermission denied) ARERR - 90

I know that the Misc. tli error can refer to a firewall issue, but the
Permission denied is what we can't figure out. Has anyone seen this
error before? I tried the BMC KB and that did not help at all.

We are on AIX, Remedy v71., and Oracle 10g R3. Any help would be
appreciated.

Re: Re : AIE 7.1 data conversion - RESOLVED

2009-10-27 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
I think what he was saying is he creates views in the local Remedy DB pointing
to the remote tables/views and does the conversion in his local views. I do
the same type of thing here.

i.e. I have a local view in my Remedy database that points to a remote
table/view. This way I reference everything in Remedy as just the local
database and the database view handles the remote info. This came in real
handy when the DBA's went and moved (with a domain rename) the remote db. All
I had to do was update the local database view and Remedy did not have to
change at all.

The object I am in fact puuling the data from are views and not physical tables.
I do not have access to the views at the remote end, and to ask anyone to

Please let me know if you meant something else.

need to be able to convert the INTEGER data to charaters within the AIE
mapping. I am trying to avoid adding a filter to the form to the do the
conversion. I looked at the AIE manual but did not see a function to do this.
I have perhaps missed something but the only one I could see is the SQL| and
 the targetSQL| statements...

 Any thoughts?

 Many thanks
 frex

Re: Java API for ARS - How to obtain a Run-If line from an Active Link (for example)

2009-10-27 Thread LJ Longwing
Wow...ask a tough oneoktook me FOREVER to figure out
Qualifiersbut here is basically what you need to do.

A QualifierInfo object has three main parts, LeftOperand, Operation, and
RightOperand. To explain these parts I will give you an example

('Status' = Fixed) AND ('Create Date' $DATE$)

Ok, if that is your QualifierInfo object, here are your pieces

LeftOperand = ('Status' = Fixed)
Operation = AND
RightOperand = ('Create Date'  $DATE$)

So, what I have done in several programs now is to write an iterative
subroutine, if you check the operation to determine if it is a relational
operation ( = != etc). If it's not, I throw RightOperand back into the
sub till it is, If it is then you know you are down to a single operand, and
then you can parse the field/value on left and right for what you want to
check/test for.

Please let me know if this helps anyit's still a bit fuzzy in my head,
but I understand it well enough as it is to do what I need to do.

Many thanks Fred for pointing that out.

One thing I should have mentioned is that I am not creating any new mappings or
exchanges as such ... I am only modifying some existing ones (which have been
working fine using AIE) by adding a column(s) to the existing mapping(s).. Your
idea sounds good, but I will have to recreate more views locally just to to fix
the one or two column(s) issue?
I am thinking what's the point then of me having the AIE at all if I can
recreate all the views locally, may be little bit later  when we already have
few exchanges pulling data from different places?

The only small issue that I have now left is the warning which I get in one the
Debug logs when the AIE starts reading the mapping and validating the data
types on both sides when the exchange fires, but apart from that, the data
looks correct at the database level and the client as well. Should I worry
about the warning? :-)

Wish it was that simple:)

The object I am in fact puuling the data from are views and not physical tables.
I do not have access to the views at the remote end, and to ask anyone to
rebuild the views and change the data column would be asking for trouble :)

Please let me know if you meant something else.

need to be able to convert the INTEGER data to charaters within the AIE
mapping. I am trying to avoid adding a filter to the form to the do the
conversion. I looked at the AIE manual but did not see a function to do this.
I have perhaps missed something but the only one I could see is the SQL| and
 the targetSQL| statements...

 Any thoughts?

DMLAdmin, DMLDataAdmin and other Permission groups ?

2009-10-27 Thread Raj
Hello All,
After a fresh installation of ARS 7.5 P 2 and ITSM 7.5.01. When I
looked in the user form there are two users DMLAdmin and DMLDataAdmin
who has been allotted fixed licenses. May I know why DMLAdmin and
DMLDataAdmin are there ? Are these important for configuring ITSM ?

We are only using Service Desk (Incident and Problem Management
Modules ) , nothing else from ITSM.

Where can I find about the permissions, what permissions needs to be
given for specific tasks in ARS and ITSM. Is there a document by BMC
where I can look up more information on permissions and permissions
groups.

Thanks,

2009-10-27 Thread Walters, Mark
What's in the log before the Stacks: line? That's the point of the crash.
Then you have the version string output from the server restarting and the
ARERR 90 from the Dispatch (arsvcdsp) because it is not able to connect to the
server. The RPC error is from the dispatch service and is the result of the
server crashing, not the cause.

We added more memory to our server this past weekend. Since then the

I know that the Misc. tli error can refer to a firewall issue, but the
Permission denied is what we can't figure out. Has anyone seen this

We are on AIX, Remedy v71., and Oracle 10g R3. Any help would be

Re: Looking for ways to validate or lock down and then audit foundation data changes

2009-10-27 Thread Deepak Thohan
Perhaps not exactly what you want but Panacea Workflow Studio allows you to
snapshot or archive your server, including foundation data, within a
Workflow Studio cache and have one or many snapshots available for browsing,
comparing, exporting..etc at a given time. You can then compare foundation
data over time using the data comparison functionality (based on any primary
key), providing a way of auditing changes. Although you would still have to
setup/specify which of the forms holding the foundation data you were
interested in within ITSM

To do this select your server - specify the Foundation data (with/out
subsets) you want to store and the cache will be created for you
automatically. You can also incrementally update the cache (and foundation
data) either through the gui or from a scheduled job. Once in the cache you
can browse/compare the data from the tool as though it were a 'live' server.

In Oracle 11g, you can use a new feature called Flashback Data Archive.
The good thing is that you don't need to develop anything or configuring
anything in Remedy, it's all done at the database level

data changes

As always thanks,

,

Re: Submitter of an Ad-Hoc Approval Record

We have the exact same customization
request, but for ITSM 7.0.3. The only active link or filter in the
entire system that does an Add-Sig (in 7.0.3 anyway) run-process is INT:APRCHG:CSG:SaveNextApprover_RefreshFields_217_Close.
So with that in mind, the two options we're considering are:

1. Modify the Application Command
Add-Sig in the above active link to include the -l option, and pass in
$USER$. The -l option is intended to support multi-tenancy and will
set field id 112 on AP:Signature. You can only get away with this
if you aren't using multi-tenancy. We'd then put a filter on ap:signature
(on submit) to move the value to either the Submitter field or a field
we add. Of course, field 112 would need to be set back to it should
be.

2. Create a form to use as a control.
In the above active link add a push to this form that pushes change
id and $USER$ (and maybe approvers list?). Then create a filter on
submit of ap:signature that reads the submitter value from that form. And
then, of course delete the record on the control form.

Keep in mind, that's just a high-level
description. Neither of those options seem real great to me, and
we haven't actually tried either of them yet, so take it for what its worth.

Let me know if you come up with a better
way.

I believe that you will have problems with pushing $USER$ to the
submitter field unless all of your users including approvers are
licensed ITSM users. Even if you are licensing all of your approvers
though, you could get caught when someone sets and alternate approver
and that alternate does not have a license.

I hope I am just missing something obvious here. TIA

Email Engine Unicode?

2009-10-27 Thread Kemes, Lisa
We have people that create tickets by creating an email and sending to our
system.

i.e (this is just a portion). I've X'd out the sensitive info….

Schema: Log Call
Server: XXX.com
Login: XXX
Password: X
Action: Submit
Call Type !536870992!: REQUEST
Priority !630100050!: PR6
Network ID* !630100045!: US052825
Building !536870943!: 161
Details !630100060!: Test for Unicode. 泰科电子资讯系统联络人

When they send this to our system, the AR System Email Messages INBOUND email
message shows the Chinese Characters, but when the data is pushed over into the
Log Call form, the Chinese Characters are turned into ??'s.

Is this something that we can fix? It seems like it's breaking down when they
email is getting parsed and moved into the Log Call form.

Re: company field for new from control access

2009-10-27 Thread Kemes, Lisa
It's good information and I just tried the assignee field workflow on one of
our forms in development and so far, it works like a charm!

Re: Assigned license issue

2009-10-27 Thread McClure, Don
Hi Bruce.

I am amplifying on Chris Strauss' remarks (his office is across the hall from
mine!). The subject random functional failure occurs in our situation just
often enough to be very irritating to both support-staffers and the admins
trying to fix it.

My corrective action has usually taken one of two forms: first-rebuild the
permissions list as noted. Second-assign user a fixed license, save CTM:People,
then revert the license back to Floating(of course, this does not work if user
has fixed license initially-but I have *never* seen this issue occur with a
fixed-license account!!).

The subject failure has been infrequent enough to elude definitive analysis-but
frequent enough to raise users' ire. I would be surprised to see this malady
completely disappear in ARS/ITSM7.6or 8.0.

We have seen this many, many times in the last year and a half with ITSM
7.0.02/03 on ARS 7.1, and the cure always seems to be what you had to do. We
see it mostly with support staff (who are not using LDAP authentication), but
we have actually had a few on customer accounts that lose their company access
(and those are all LDAP authenticated). It has something to do with the
combination of data in the CTM:People + User + CTM:People Permission Groups
forms and how it is cached (or not). Usually all of the group memberships look
just fine in all of the forms, and in even the user_cache, but they are not
taking effect when the user logs in. It is an annoying defect.

Thanks for the replies. I've had similar problems as everyone described with
guest and upper case before, but that's not the case in this example. No LDAP
or Orcale here, we're exclusively Windows in our Remedy environment.
Last time I had this issue I ended up deleting the user and recreating the
account, I was just trying to prevent from going that route again.

*Fix*
I ended up deleting all the group and license information in both the People
and User form for the user. Once that was done, I set the account back up and
had the user test. He was immediately able to login with a floating license,
much faster than recreating his entire account. Thanks for the suggestion Sean.

I have had this as well where the user says they are logged in as username
but when you check the logged in users under license review they were logged in
as Username and we allow guest users so it was assigned them to a read
licenses as a quest.

Are you running Oracle and LDAP? The funny thing is Oracle is case sensitive
but LDAP is not. So when a user logs in as Jsmith vs jsmith they may get a
read license because Remedy/oracle can't resolve Jsmith. (Assuming his user
record is jsmith). Another thing to check is the .multilicense file. If you
are running unix remove it from the /etc/arsystem directory (note: it's a
hidden file) and restart the server. In addition check to see if you are
allowing guest users. He may be misspelling his user id and the system is
letting him in any way as a guest user. The last thing I would do is check his
CTM:People record vs. what is actually in his User record. Sometimes you
have to go back and remove/add permissions again to get the User record
corrected.

Thanks,

Sean

only affecting one or two users, but up to this point BMC has been little help.
