This is a known issue (defect ID # SW00320171) and I think it is fixed in
later patches.

Thanks

Sam,

Let me take a stab at your question

You will find the level of questions on this list and at RUG run the gamit from
"How do you spell CMDB?" to
"So, I have this triple outer join that involves a self join where I want to
validate data that I will submit next
week against the entry today to make sure that the entry today is not in
conflict -- assuming that I use the
`! syntax attached to a filter to change the phase that the filter runs in to
run in the correct phase and that
I have already checked with dev studio and found that the form I am importing
into does exist.".

There are all levels of folks and even the same person is an expert in one area
and has questions in another.

There will be discussions for all levels of folks. Yes, some talks will be
oriented toward folks with more
background. But I would argue that most of the talks are appropriate for
someone who is new to the
environment. Heck, there are even talks that are targetted at managers and
executives who the developers
sometimes question whether they understand what AR System is.

Will some topics be a bit confusing? Maybe -- but then when you get to that
topic in your work you will
suddenly remember the discussion and things may make more sense or at least you
have a starting point.

WWRUG is for folks at all levels. You will definitely find kindred spirits
whether you have started using the
AR System last week or have been at it for 19 years.

Sometimes questions like the one you were asked in the email are all about
understanding how to respond
to the question. If you are an expert, the response uses shorthand and jumps
to the detail while if you are
new, there is background and some introductory data that needs to be supplied
sometimes that is just
frustrating if you were an expert while if left out for the newer person makes
the answer simply confusing.

I have always received feedback and commentary from customers at all levels who
have gone to a RUG
event over the entire history of the event where they have received enormous
value from the event. The
return on investment in terms of being able to better do the job or do more
things in new ways has been
enormous. This is also reflected by the number of people that go back (or at
least try to go back if their
bosses let them) to the event in future years.

So, Sam, I would encourage you to seriously consider attending the WWRUG event
in a bit over a week. I
really think you will find the event a big positive.

I will be around all week. Let's pick Wed night at the Evening with
Engineering event as a time when it would
be terrific for you to find me in the crowd (I am the shy one standing in the
back saying nothing with the
gray hair and beard) and let me know how it is going and if you think I was
right in my assessment of the
event.

Check that escalations are running on the server. The group
notifications are expanded to the group members by an escalation that
created the records in the NTE notification form for members of the
group. Sometimes escalations are disabled at the server configuration

Just rolled this version out live for the company and group
notifications for incident records are not triggering.

Notifications are not being sent when an Incident is assigned to a

Amazingly this is a major issue.

ITSM 7.6.03 Preconfigured Stack Installer. Where are they hiding it?

2010-10-08 Thread Rabi Tripathi
So, I go to the the support site looking for this said stack installer. I can't
find my way to the this new marvel.

So EPD (electronic product dowonload) is new and improved. Nice, but what is
this installer named? What tab is it on? Wait, only what I own is listed, not
other software. Wait, I can request a trial. Hmm no I don't get the software
after requesting a trial, but only a promise somebody will contact me. Not in 3
days.

Forget EPD. Go back to the Downloads and Patches link. Too many ways to get to
software downloads. EPD, or is Remedy still a heritage, or not a heritage? Who
knows?
Should I look under patch, or no patch? "03" would be the patch number, no?
Search under "Remedy Heritage" "patch", and there is no such version as 7.6.03
and no patch 3 for 7.6...for IM/PM/CM and no product is either stacked or
preconfigured there. Bummer. It looks like the heritage has been shed and
modernity is upon us. So that's settled. May be.

Wait, there's "A-Z Supported Product List. " This looks promising. They
couldn't have missed the ITSM 7.6.03 preconfigured stack installer here. It
starts with an alphabet, after all.

They haven't stacked or preconfigured anything here either! It lists "Remedy IT
Service Management Suite (Version 7.6.03)", which has a doc that says
"Installation Notes for BMC Remedy ITSM Suite Preconfigured Stack 7.6.03.".
Eeehaa, finally.

Wait, this doc tells me to go back to the new and improved EPD! I swear it's
not there in EPD. EPD seems designed to bar me from getting anything I don't
already own. We only own some of the set of apps that are included in the said
"ITSM 7.6.03 preconfigured stack" installer.
So I shouldn't have been given the hope? Or may be the clever joke behind the
new EPD was to challenge people's IQ which I am wondering if I have in low
supply. Only today, I think.

??

Sam,

The experience of RUG is kind of hard to explain. It sort of has the feeling of
going to a family or even high school reunion. Part of the experience of RUG is
renewing friendships. It's sitting down (bar, table, floor, what ever is
available) with some one you just meet and comparing notes about your system
and how you approach something. Even those of us that have been doing this for
years can learn from the newbies.

In the mornings, Lenny and a crew of people will be running tutorials. These
are basically mini classes.

The afternoons are technical sessions. The level of the technical sessions can
vary. This year we are seeing a number of What's New in 7.6 put on by
BMC/Remedy folks.

You can't over look Wednesday night which is Evening with Engineering that Doug
has been hosting for years. Wednesday night gives you the opportunity to talk
with the BMC/Remedy backline folks and product managers directly. A great place
to ask questions. Doug always challenges us to keep his folks there and busy
until Midnight. If we haven't then we haven't done our jobs.

Come out to Vegas and look me up. I won't be too hard to find. I'll buy you a
beer or glass of wine.

I highly recommend attending the RUG. I believe in a previous post
Doug Mueller (http://www.bmc.com/thought-leadership/doug-mueller.html)
mention there would be something for all levels.

In the previous RUGs I've attended, I've always learned something new
and more importantly, it showed me if I was using the Remedy /Remedy
related product consistent with best practices. You meet people, you
network, and generally leave feeling highly motivated.

Perhaps it would be best for you to review the list of available
sessions, see which of them are of interest to you and ask about them
here on the forum to see how technical it will be.

2010-10-08 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
I have never been to a RUG myself, but from what I hear, it is a great event
from the sales and marketing perspective for their products as well as vendor
products. While there are things that would interest developers and
consultants, not really a lot that will go on there will fly over your head,
even if you are relatively new. They surely do not want to loose the interest
of those visiting the event from a product showcase perspective by getting deep
down into the guts of things. They do have (or used to) an event where you get
to meet with the engineering teams, so that's about as techy as it might get..

It would also be a great event for you to meet fellow developers and exchange
experiences, and if not anything contacts.. Never hurts to know people in this
market as it is very small, and a few years down the line you would realize
that almost everyone knows everyone, maybe not in person but at least through
email exchanges..

I've known some people that I have not yet met in person here for a decade
nearly..

most of the questions posted here are beyond my understanding.) I
appreciated the gentlemen who tried to help me, and I don't think he
meant anything negative in what he asked. But it did give me cause to
worry about spending so much money on the WWRUG given my lack of
knowledge of the product.

I guess what I'm asking is, will there be some of WWRUG geared to those
with not a lot of experience with the various products?

Thank you for your time,

WWRUG

2010-10-08 Thread Samuel A. Morris

Regarding the WWRUG in Las Vegas... I'd like to come to it, my company is
willing to send me, but I have a concern that the sessions are going to be
so far over my head that little of it will make much sense (read, I'm very
inexperienced with Remedy, etc.) As an example, I posted a question on this
list about being able to display certain items in the Atrium Core
Console... the one reply I got ended with the line "I have a question - how
much experience do you have with CMDB?", leading me to feel even more out
of place on this list. (I subscribed to it in hopes of learning more about
Remedy, Atrium, ITSM, etc. I have to admit that most of the questions
posted here are beyond my understanding.) I appreciated the gentlemen who
tried to help me, and I don't think he meant anything negative in what he

Issue with Service Request Template

2010-10-08 Thread Larry Barnes
Running ARS 7.5 patch 4
SRM 2.2 patch 003

I created a SR template that has 8 questions in the App. Field Mapping
form. The template works as designed; except for this 1 anomaly.
The 7th question is a menu selection with 2 possible answers "Yes" or
"No". The 8th question is an optional question where additional
information can be added.
If you do not enter anything into question 8 the value you select in
question 7 also get populated into question 8.

I've checked for default values anywhere in the SRM template to the
questions and in the actual template that's used and can't find
anything. I generated a log file and can see when the value gets
dropped into this question but I don't understand why.

As anyone experienced this and if so what was your solution?

Thanks for your time,

Larry B.

Default form colors not working in Mid Tier

2010-10-08 Thread Martin, Dwayne - martinrd
Dear List,
We have default form colors by mode (green for display, blue for query etc),
and they work in the WUT, but in Mid Tier they always come up white, no matter
what the mode.
If we define a specific color for the form Mid Tier displays it, but then we
lose the mode feature.
Is there an "Honor default colors" button you have to check in Mid Tier
configuration?

2010-10-08 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
I do not have the AIE tool right now handy to point you the exact settings, but
on the mapping settings there are options that you choose depending on the
source data on how to handle exceptions etc. I would encourage you to visit
those options and see if anything applies there that may be applicable to you
after you switched the original file.. Even if I did have the tool handy, I
might have not been to help you beyond pointing you to this direction, I saw
the original data format and the original options set for those.. and the new
data format..

You are missing out if you miss WWRUG 2010 -- I hope to see you there

2010-10-08 Thread Mueller, Doug
Folks,

WWRUG 2010 is just around the corner. It is short notice if you don't have
your plans already made, but if not, it really looks like it would be worth
the effort to do a bit of scrambling.

I was just asked to cover a meeting for a group of customers. Well, I have a
few minor commitments like Evening with Engineering and the Thursday Party (hey,
that is a legitimate business commitment!) so I went to the web site to see
where there was open time that I could commit to a meeting.

Well, I quickly realized that I had a problem. There is so much going on and
so many good sessions and tutorials and activities that there really isn't any
spare time. There are sessions for everyone from a Remedy newbie to those
long-in-the-tooth old timers out there. Heck, there are even sessions for those
management types.

I am impressed with the session lineup the leaders of this event have pulled
together. I am impressed with the lineup of partners who are coming and the
capabilities they bring to expand the capabilities of the solutions.

I look forward to meeting with all of you and having a great week in Las Vegas.

Now, if I can just find a slot for that meeting I think 3 to 5 AM on
Thursday might still be available!

Re: Migrator timeout

2010-10-08 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
Andy,

Have you tried upgrading your 6.0.1 server to 7.5? That way both the source and
target would be the same versions to support a migration.

Remedy has claimed that the Studio and user client tool is backward compatible
- meaning you can safely connect from a 7.5 studio or user client tool to a
previous version. I don't recall if the Migrator client was built that way
too.. Even if it were, the problem must be that 6.0 is a few major version
levels behind.. After 6.0, there were 6.3, 7.0, 7.1 and 7.5.

If you cannot get to 7.5, at least try getting a little closer, and reattempt
in case Remedy does claim the Migrator can be used for previous versions..

Cheers

Joe

I haven't had it happen on dialog boxes specifically, but I have seen
similar issues. (i.e. I have multiple apps open in XP, (like Excel and ARS
User). I do a File Open and choose a form to open in the User tool. Windows
will put the Excel app on top of Remedy and until I go to some other app and
come back to Remedy the form I opened will not display.)

It seems to happen when I have multiple copies of the User tool open.

I wonder if this is something to do with the specific version/patch of the
ARS or the OS type of the client?

I have used XP for the most part over the past few years and recently
switched to Windows 7, and have personally not seen this issue where a
second dialog window opened from within a dialog goes behind the first..
They have opened in the front and allowed me to have control on it right
away.

As a workaround in your case, try a Gain Focus action on the first field you

want focus on, on window open and see if that forces the window to the
foreground.

They have opened in the front and allowed me to have control on it right
away.

As a workaround in your case, try a Gain Focus action on the first field you

want focus on, on window open and see if that forces the window to the
foreground.

You had posted this yesterday too and had received responses from some others
as well as me.. here is my response copied back again.. I am CC'ing the
response to your Gmail address just in case you are not receiving the list
mails for whatever reasons.. Check your ARS List subscription options you have
chosen. You must have set yourself to NOMAIL.

In ITSM 7.1 I have come across no known bugs with querying the CTM:People form
from anywhere within the application, either through workflow, or other queries
designed...

So the question is more about any customization that you may have done that may
retrieve information from the CTM:People form to be set somewhere. Make sure
that the searches that are issued on such customization, are using appropriate
indexes, and if not, rebuild those qualifications if possible around existing
indexes, or create new indexes as appropriate to support those queries..

Respect this one cardinal rule, and you should be ok..

** Hi ARSLIST,

I am thinking about importing all customers (4.6 million) into Remedy (ITSM
7.1).

The customers should not be users but only people. There will only be about 300
users and that is no problem.

The Remedy applications and database is running on separate servers. The DB
server is MS SQL 2005.

Do anybody have any experience about setup and performance with this amount of
records in the people form ?
Lookup in ITSM applications (Customer on incident form, Requester on Change
form etc) ?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

surprised that they are rumored to be interested in purchasing BMC Software

IT Home page error

2010-10-08 Thread Ramey, Anne
I am experiencing a strange intermittent problem in my new ARS 7.5 p 6, ITSM
7.6 p1 environment. Everything was working (relatively fine) this morning. I
started ARS and now I get:
Error generating application list field content. (ARERR 1900)
When trying to display the IT home page in the user tool, and
"No applications or entry points"
When displaying it in the web. There are no errors in any of the logs. This
happened before and mysteriously went away. Now it's back. Does anyone have
any idea? It seems to be happening for all users.

Flashboard Requirement Question

I am trying to understand the requirements for Flashboards. I can create
flashboards (more than 5) and they display them just fine however I do not have
a flashboard license and the flashboard service is failing as well. I guess
this confuses me a little bit.

The problem I am having is when I try to create a flashboard based on
historical data is does not display any data. My understanding is that the data
is beening gathered from the FB:History forms which are not being updated.

Can someone enlighten me as to what is needed ?

I am running 7.1.0 Patch 6 with the ITSM suite

home link on web toolbar missing for old forms

2010-10-08 Thread Brien Dieterle

 Hi List,

Anyone have some really old forms that don't show the home page link on
the web toolbar? I've tried exporting this form and importing it to
another server, 7.5 patch 6, with no luck. It has been missing forever,
I'm guessing, and we just never noticed. No amount of fiddling with the
web toolbar checkboxes can make this thing reappear. The only rhyme is
that it only occurs on our ancient forms that were made on perhaps 4.x
or 5.x AR System.

Any ideas how to fix this? Rebuilding the form is not really an option :-)

BMC Software Inc.
climbed the most in 20 months in Nasdaq Stock Market trading on a report
the business-software maker may be putting itself up for sale.

The shares jumped as much as 9.6 percent after DealReporter said BMC may
have started exploring a sale as many as two weeks ago. The news service
cited three industry bankers and an executive familiar with the
situation. Houston-based BMC has a market capitalization of about $7.6
billion.

Re: Group Notifications

2010-10-08 Thread Tommy Morris
It was set to EMAIL, I changed it last night to "clear" so that it would
use the people default but still nothing is triggering. I created a junk
filter to fire when the Assignee Group is changed and it does fire and
send an email (not the best solution when there should be OOB
functionality).

Just rolled this version out live for the company and group notifications for

Notifications are not being sent when an Incident is assigned to a Group.
Notifications are sent when an Incident is assigned to an individual.
Notifications are sent for Tasks and Changes being assigned to a group but I
cannot find a configuration to ensure that Group Notifications fire for
incidents.
Amazingly this is a major issue.

BMC Software Inc.

business-software maker may be putting itself up for sale.

The shares jumped as much as 9.6 percent after DealReporter said BMC may

BMC Software Inc.
climbed the most in 20 months in Nasdaq Stock Market trading on a report the
business-software maker may be putting itself up for sale.

The shares jumped as much as 9.6 percent after DealReporter said BMC may
have started exploring a sale as many as two weeks ago. The news service
cited three industry bankers and an executive familiar with the situation.
Houston-based BMC has a market capitalization of about $7.6 billion.

4.6 million records in people form

2010-10-08 Thread Mr. Tee
Hi ARSLIST,

I am thinking about importing all customers (4.6 million) into Remedy (ITSM
7.1).

The customers should not be users but only people. There will only be about
300 users and that is no problem.

The Remedy applications and database is running on separate servers. The DB
server is MS SQL 2005.

Do anybody have any experience about setup and performance with this amount
of records in the people form ?
Lookup in ITSM applications (Customer on incident form, Requester on Change
form etc) ?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards
Mr. Tee

trouble writing to the DB and from the error seems to be network
related. I'd check the connectivity from your application server to

I am seeing quite a few "PreLoginHandshake" errors on my ARERROR.log
file. This also seems to cause ARS to stop responding. Restarting the
ARS service does not solve issue. restarting the server does.

My DBAs are telling me that they do not see any issues with the
database. I am able to log into the DB via Mgmt Studio. I would like
guidance on troubleshooting this issue. Any help appreciated.

How can I check why I'm seeing the errors: Thu Oct 07 13:34:01 2010
