Anybody noticed permission differences on Work Order form in SRM 7.6.03

Hello all,

We have just upgraded our test server to SRM 7.6.03 and noticed a significant
difference in access to work order form.
The data on the Work Order form now can only be updated by a member of one of
the assigned groups (using any combination of available permissions/roles).
There is no “work order master” type of access that would allow editing of work
orders irrespective of assignment.
We raised this with BMC and they have been looking at it for last 2 weeks, but
I still have not received any answer (apart from initial working as designed
which we did not accept).
So was wondering if anybody else experiences the same behaviour, just to check
if it is reproducible or might just be a failure of the install in our
environment.

Thanks in advance for your comments

Re: People Group Roles in Asset

2011-01-04 Thread Benedetto Cantatore
An asset admin would update the server CIs as required. The idea is
that when a ticket is created, the support group checks to see how to
route the ticket for that particular server. What I don't want to do is
create all sorts of bogus roles just because our assignment process is
muddy. So, trying to figure out the best way to handle this.

I'm thinking that creating new roles is the wrong way to go, but not
sure what to give them to address the conditional branching based on
servers.

** In version 7.x when relating people/groups to a CI, there are 6
roles that are selectable. I've gotten a request to add "Hardware
Support" and "Backup Support" as roles. This is to support server
issues. I suggested they merely put in both support groups that would
support the server with a role of supported by and the name of the
support group should identify what kind of support they'll do. The
problem is that based on which server it is there's overlap on who
handles the backup issues; could be either Server Engineering or Storage

My question to the list is should I add the roles or does anyone have a

Deleting entry with api

2011-01-04 Thread Marek B.
Hi listers,

Is there any method to delete an entry in a custom form via java or dotnet
api?
Using a DeleteEntry method gives me no administrative permissions error,
which is correct and I don't want to give such permissions.
Also I don't want to create any extra workflow on server side. Is it
feasible?

We do have such a binary(binaries) the delete with the API. It's available
in Windows and support ARS platforms.

It is also relatively easy for you to make such a binary. Note that you
cannot inhibit filters that fire on Delete with the API.

I am currently considering marketing and publication options such as
packaging it with the Meta-Update distribution or making them available
separately. This consideration ranges to a set of binaries including a
query tool, so you could say, query first, then delete.

The binaries work something along the lines of:

SthMqry -c schema query to return results count only

SthMqry -n schema query to return results only

SthMqry schema query to return results with field values on
separate lines

SthMqry -f schema query to return results with field values as
a CSV for say, Excel

SthMqry -S ";" schema query (specify CSV separator)

SthMdel -q schema queryto delete results of query

And additionally to the SthMqry synopsis above, Meta-Query supports SQL
queries.

SthMqry  -q  sql_query   issues an SQL query through the API;

Re: Deleting entry with api

2011-01-04 Thread LJ LongWing
Marek,

There are two ways I'm familiar with to delete a record.

1 - Have an Admin Account, they have permission, so you won't have issues

2 - Create workflow that fires on condition 'x' that does a process to
delete the record

If you are unwilling to do 1, you must do 2, if you are not willing to do
either, then you won't be able to do it.

If you use the API you need permissions. The API adhere to the ARS
permissions model (of course). Note again that you cannot inhibit filters.
So, a filter could simply throw an error and abort an API delete. I use
these (and Meta-Update) as a matter of convenience when problem solving,
developing, etc.

2011-01-04 Thread Robert Molenda
I've created a simple form "ADM:TK:DeleteEntryQueue" in where you push the
SchemaName and the requestID (Field 1) ... Then a periodic escalation runs
through and performs the Run-Process-Delete-Entry.

Works like a champ - especially with the extended features such as a "delete
time" so you can batch delete bunches of entries during off-hours...

Hi listers,

Is there any method to delete an entry in a custom form via java or dotnet
api?

Using a DeleteEntry method gives me no administrative permissions error,
which is correct and I don't want to give such permissions.

Also I don't want to create any extra workflow on server side. Is it
feasible?

Wierd Workflow Issue

2011-01-04 Thread Kevin Begosh
List,
I am having a wierd workflow issue and I am wondering if anyone else has
ever had this issue. I have a filter that goes through and takes the data
from a character field and pushes it to another character field and adds
some HTML tags to it. The main one I am concerned with is the one where I
add anytime there is a carriage return. So my set fields value looks
like this:

REPLACE($Comments HTML$, "", "")

and it works fine. The problem I am having now is everytime the AR Server
is restarted the system comes through and adds a space my set fields value
so it looks like this

REPLACE($Comments HTML$, " ", "")

Has anyone ever seen this or know why ARS would add that extra space in the
filter? This is all custom workflow.

What I typically do in my code is force the space replacement

NOTE: This does not seem to work the same when using the Developer Studio (It
seems to want to put 2 characters in instead of the single one)

Kevin,

Yes I experience that EXACT issue. The problem is in the ARServer and is
fixed by a patch. You didn't mention what patch you are on, but go to the
latest and you will see it not being an issue anymore.

And additionally to the SthMqry synopsis above, Meta-Query supports SQL
queries.

SthMqry  -q  sql_query   issues an SQL query through the API;
also supports -f

Simple question (with an obvious answer) but I just need to make sure I am
thinking correctly .

When ARS is used to consume a web service is there any interaction with the

returned record.

No ... (unless of course you are consuming a service hosted by the ARS server
itself)

Consuming a service from a filter only involves the libwebservice plugin.

Attempting to Install Atrium Core 7.6.001

2011-01-04 Thread Larry Barnes
I'm having issues with the webservices login ID during the input phase
of the Atrium 7.6 Core Install.
I'm getting the following error, "Webservices Registry connection error.
Verify that the connection information is correct and the Tomcat service
is running." This error appears in the
wscBootStrapUserInputValidationPanel.description form.
I manually enter the host Name and the port number is changed from 8080
to 80 (this change was also made in the associated xml file).

When the form first appears during the input phase it has a default
login ID and password entered; but they do not work. I've tried several
other ID's and associated passwords and they don't work either; this is
what prompted me to check out Tomcat. I uninstalled Tomcat5 and
installed Tomcat6 and have it up and running, but I'm still unable to
get past this input form.

What am I missing here? Has anyone else dealt with this. I have opened
a case with BMC and it seems to be stalled; I can't get a response from
them.

Any pointers, help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry B.

Re: Massive upgrade challenge!!

2011-01-04 Thread William Rentfrow
I thought the API changed drastically between 6.x and 7? I know a whole
bunch of java API calls were deprecated - one of our customers had to
re-write an entire interface because of this.

If you have scripts and C API programs pulling data out I would suggest
double-checking to make sure they are not using outdated API calls.

We have a complex application in place and yes its home grown system. I
think we can go with straight upgrade if needed after we try the
migration
idea given by Misi on development server.

I am worried about is the interfaces that are present most of them are
shell
scripts and C programs to push and pull data out of the system.

If I am not wrong I don't have to worry about the interfaces as it is
completely customized application and AR upgrade will treat it as some
workflow which does not involve any system form(except user form) and
wont
change it except field length and type. Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: "Enable Mid Tier Performance MBean" setting

2011-01-04 Thread Easter, David
Looks like the "Monitoring memory use and performance in real time" section was
inadvertently omitted from the 7.6.03 documentation. I've alerted the
documentation folks and they'll make sure it gets into the AR System 7.6.04
documentation. Here's the info for Tomcat:

Monitoring memory use and performance in real time
By default, real-time mid-tier monitoring is disabled. To monitor mid-tier
memory use and performance in real time through a Java Management Extension
(JMX.) console, such as JConsole, perform the following procedure.

To monitor memory use and performance in real time
1 Add the following parameters to the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) started by the
mid-tier JavaServer Pages (JSP) or servlet engine.

* To monitor the mid tier on the mid tier host:

At the command-line prompt, set the JAVA_OPTS environment variable as follows,
and then start Tomcat:

set JAVA_OPTS=-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote

Alternatively, add the preceding parameter to the JAVA_OPTS entry in the
TomcatInstallDir/bin/catalina.bat file, and then restart Tomcat.

* To monitor the mid tier remotely:

At the command-line prompt, set the JAVA_OPTS environment variable as follows,
and then start Tomcat:
set JAVA_OPTS=
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate =false
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=portNumber

portNumber is the port number to connect to your JMX Remote Method Invocation
(RMI) connector. Specify an unused port number.

Alternatively, add the preceding parameters to the JAVA_OPTS entry in the
TomcatInstallDir/bin/catalina.bat file, and then restart Tomcat.

1.In the Mid Tier Configuration Tool, check the Enable Mid Tier Performance
MBean option on the General Settings page to enable real-time monitoring.

2. Restart the mid tier.

NOTE
You can also monitor mid-tier memory use and performance by analyzing the
entries in the armidtier.log file. See the Optimizing and Troubleshooting Guide
for more information.

Subject: "Enable Mid Tier Performance MBean" setting

** Hello,

Has anybody used the new "Enable Mid Tier Performance MBean" feature in
Mid-Tier (added in 7.6.03)? Here is the description from the Mid-Tier Guide:

***
Specifies whether mid-tier memory use and performance can be monitored in real
time through a JMX console such as JConsole.

If the check box is:
- Selected-Memory use and performance can be monitored using a JMX console.
- Cleared-Real-time memory use and performance is not enabled.

For more information, see "Monitoring memory use and performance in real time."
***

Both the Mid-Tier pdf and help in the Configuration Tool say to see "Monitoring
memory use and performance in real time". I cannot find anything with this
title.

I set the check box, restarted Tomcat and now see "com.remedy.arsys.log" and a
number of attributes on the MBeans tab of JConsole. Looks neat (I haven't done
much with the MBeans info in JConsole) but would like the documentation or to
hear from somebody using it to see if there are certain things to look for and
is this the extent of checking the box.

Hi all,

Happy holidays and new years to all.

We have an issue with our upgraded production server. Since we upgraded
to 7.5 patch 007 (from 7.0.01 patch 008) our server crash every 30 to 40
hours. The reason is it runs out of resources. We noticed that the
arserver process run over 78,000 Handles after a few days. We identify
the cause as being an escalation that does a run process which launch a
batch file that runs a Java program.

Absolutely nothing has changed on the code side (Remedy) or on the Java
side. When we disable the escalation, the number of Handles average 2,000
for the arserver process. But as soon as we enable that particular
escalation, we see the Handles grow by almost 1,000 every hour or so to
the point of crashing the server due to lack of resources.
We have an opened ticket with BMC , but they are telling us its an OS
issue. All our servers are on the same OS, same patches etc. We move the
code (both Java and Remedy) on another server that runs the same OS, same
OS patching but ARS 7.0.01 patch 008 and the Handles are stable at 2,400
for the arserver.
We are adding monitoring tools to the server to try to get more
information but all points back to the arserver.
The Java code was compiled on 1.5.0_12. We recompiled it with 1.6.0_22 but
still same problem. We changed the Java program to make sure that the
connections were closing properly.

Any one else have this kind of issue? any ideas?

As a Band-Aid, we are currently rebooting the server every night.

It's probably easier to direct users to the JSS "AR System monitoring with

Looks like the process that was forked is not cleaning up after itself. I
don't know much about your program other than it consists of a batch file
and a Java program. Take a look at what the batch file and Java program
does, what resources it accesses, and make sure it cleans up after itself.

This are insightful:
http://forum.sysinternals.com/printer_friendly_posts.asp?TID=9098

I'd be curious to see the contents of the batch file.
Also curious if the Java opens any socket connections.

Re: SRM field expansion

2011-01-04 Thread Thad Esser
Rebecca,

I just went through this (SRM 2.2). My notes:

Per BMC:
-
This was happening due to known Defect SW00349905.
What we need to do is :
-> Simply increase the size of the Mapping Formula field to 4000 chars.
-> Also increase the size of the Form Name field on the
SRM:MasterDataMappingList form.
The list of forms in v2.2 is:
SRD:QuestionTargetDataMappingDialog
SRD:STAGE:MasterDataMappingList
SRD:STAGE:SourceToTargetDataAssociations
SRM:MasterDataMappingList
SRM:SourceToTargetDataAssociations
-
I haven't experienced any issues since doing what they said.

2011-01-04 Thread Rambabu Rudra
Hi Radhika,

Please make sure you would have a latest patch applied for your mid-tier.

If End user is accessing URL from firefox, you need to make sure allow port
8080 in your firewall if you have any.

We also got the same issue for some our 100+ users out of 2000 users who are
accessing through firefox. After opening port 8080, the issue got resolved.

Thanks & With Regards,

2011-01-04 Thread Nair, Rajesh SISPL
Exactly
The first step while be to ask the user to try out on different person. If he
is the only person facing the issue then its not the issue with the
Application, its the machine which might be having an issue. Check for Java
version installed.

I have faced such issue may times and found out the internet settings is the
issue on the browser. Some time it happen that when group policies are applied
on all machine some default setting of Browsers get disabled because of this.

With Best Regards

Rajesh

Re: Massive upgrade challenge!!

2011-01-04 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I do not recall that any call was deprecated. Definitely none that are
significant for data queries, modifications and submission of ordinary
form data.

A couple of new API-calls was introduced.

A couple of new parameters was introduced in existing calls.

Some of the data structures has changed, and some has been added.

 Hi,

 1. Install a new server on a new database
 2. Compare and apply manual changes to the system forms manually as
 desired
 3. Export/import def-file of your custom forms/applications/objects
