I'm looking for documentation of Best Practices or pitfalls to watch out for 
when tying the custom forms  and CMDB Application together.

I've had an issue with Change and Release if the Notes field is more than 500 
characters.  It had to do with the configuration--the approval notification was 
passing the notes field into a field with a limit of 500--so anything bigger 
crashed the approval engine.  You might want to see if this is true in your 
case.

From the approval logs, it seems that approval sever has crashed. The following 
statements indicate the same –

 AR System server terminated when a signal/exception was received by the 
server (ARAPPERR 20)

I assume to mean a custom Remedy app?

 

If so then I’ve done this a couple of times but each time the CMDB system had 
Remedy Asset Management sat on top.

 

The two systems were separate so I added a tab to the bespoke helpdesk that 
showed the related CI’s and invoked the standard CI search functionality from a 
button.

As long as the users have logins to both systems (with the same password) you 
can use active links quite effectively for this.

 

I don’t remember any significant difficulties but:

-  remember that the underlying CMDB forms are ugly (you’ll see the 
instanceid, etc and you’ll be able to break things by modifying things like the 
reconciliationidentity)

-  you may need to add permissions to the CMDB as, otb, you can only 
get at things as a Remedy admin

-  you still need to have a CMDB license

-  you’ll still need AR licenses to modify CI’s

Can cell based table cells be not "visually" highlighted on select?

AR 7.6.03.

Is it possible to not have the cell in cell based table "visually" highlighted 
when selected?

I want to use cell based table to display to the users some set of selections 
that they can make, as this makes it easier to manage/create the UI as well as 
making it data driven so if another set of selections are needed, just need to 
update the back-end table source.

However, as far as users are concerned, they need to interact with the contents 
of the cell, without necessarily noticing that the contents are encased in a 
"cell" and having to first select the cell, and then selecting other objects 
inside the cell. Thus, I do not want the cell to be "highlighted" when user 
selects the cell (but of course it still needs to be treated as selected for 
workflows to work properly). And I can't have this globally system wide, just 
for this cell based table.

Incident Creation through OOTB Email template

Hello All,


I am facing an issue while creating Incident using OOTB Incident template 
(Template is taken from Incident Interface Create form).

Issue 1 : In some cases I get an Error 'Authentication Failure' (in the AR 
System Email Messages form), even when an email is sent using template with 
correct Login ID and password.

Issue 2 : The Detailed Description get's trimmed when the number of lines 
exceeds 4.
So in the Email I provide the detailed description of 7 lines, but I see only 4 
lines in the Incident Interface Create/Incident Form.


Can some one please let me know what could be the issue here?

Larry,

You are right that the copying of this critical join form has copied information
either in the change diary or in terms of the fields on the form to confuse
the system and make it think that this new form is the key support form that
the approval server uses rather than the original form which is really the
key form.

This is always something you have to take care with.

If the form is a system form -- comes with AR System or is system generated or
is a form that you generate but then configure into a subsystem (like this case
where you probably created the original join but then ran apjoinfixup to
complete the definition and reconfigure it for attachment to approvals) -- you
SHOULD NOT clone the form.  There are often either tags put into fields like
the change diary or specific field combinations with reserved field IDs put onto
the forms so that the system can find them regardless of any name change you
have made to the form.  When you copy the form, the system is confused as there
are multiple forms that qualify.  Depending on the subsystem, the system will
either just error and complain that there is a conflict and not continue with
that subsystem or will just pick one.  This case seems to have just picked one
but it unfortunately picked the wrong one.



So, now, you are at the stage of wanting to remove this new form but keep any
of the logic that is attached to it but attach it to the correct form.  Is that
correct?

If so, the easiest way to do that is:

1) Find a list of all the workflow -- filters, active links, escalations -- that
   are attached to the form.
2) For each of these, open the definition and ADD the form you want to transfer
   the workflow to as an additional form on the "attached to forms list"
3) Delete the form you want to delete.  This will remove it from the form list
   on all workflow but the workflow will have another form attached and so will
   not be deleted but will stay still attached to that other form.

You have just completed the job of keeping the workflow with its attached form
switched to another form.

There should be no more than a handful of workflow items that need to be
modified in step 2 so this should be a short process.

Thanks everyone for your quick response.

I did turn the approval engine debug mode on and found some interesting
entries.

Turns out I copied an existing form, "SRM:RequestApDetail" and called it
"lab:SRM:RequestApDetail".  Apparently all the workflow now points to
this new form.  This form was going to be used for audit purposes. I'm
trying to figure out now how to remove this form without breaking
anything else.  There's only 1 field in the new form and that's why the
approval engine is not working; in my opinion.

Is there a way to safely remove this form and get the workflow to point
back to the original form?

Can you enable approval debug logs and check if you are getting any
error in the logs ?
You can enable the logs by performing following steps:
1. Go to AP:Administration
2. Click on Server Settting
3. Click the checkbox for "Approval Debug Mode"
4. Click Save

Once done, execute the use case and check the log file - arapprove.log
in "db" folder of your AR install directory.
Let me know if you find something from the logs. (Also keep an eye on
arerror.log file)

Two Report Related Issues

I'm having two issues that I know I have seen on the list before, but I
cannot find where there has been resolution:

 

First is the ARERR 553 - Operation Requested is too large for a single
SQL Command when running reports.  I have run these same (saved) reports
before and had no issues.  Usually, I can take off the Grouping and the
report will run, but not always.

 

One report, which I created today, will generate a SQL statement like:

 

SELECT T9.C1,T9.C1,C536870942,C536870943,C3 FROM T9 WHERE ((T9.C1 =
'

0262731') OR (T9.C1 = '0262802') OR (T9.C1 =
'0262803') OR (T9.C1 = '0262804') OR (T9.C1 = '00

000262853') OR (T9.C1 = '0262870') OR (T9.C1 =
'0262872') OR (T9.C1 = '0262875')...

 

And it gives the 553 Error.

 

This output is from an old report which was created as a macro and then
triggered by an AL (button):

 

SELECT C1,C536870950,C3,C536870970 FROM T290 WHERE C1 IN (
'00505

29', '0050530', '0050532', '0030623'...

 

This one still works fine.  It has 4171 records, the first report has
2058.  I did notice that the first one uses the "OR" to select each
record and the second one uses "IN" to select.  But, more importantly,
the second one breaks down the statement into several statements, each
with a different group of Request IDs, which show up in the sql.log.
The first report does not - it tries to do them all.

 

Second issue:  We are still using DDE to send reports to Word and Excel.
Although Microsoft says DDE is still supported in Windows 7, we cannot
get the reports to output - the screen does a quick flash and then
nothing happens.  Of the several reports that we still use, we have to
keep an XP machine to create and print the reports.

 

Has anyone been able to make DDE work on a Windows 7 PC?

duplicate relationships

All,

I have come across an odd occurence.

I have a form I created in the CMDB on AR 7.5

On that form I have a button that creates another instance of that form copying 
the CI Name with a sequence number
i.e, parent = Test Form,  press button and dialog comes up with CI Name of Test 
Form-1

after updating the 2nd dialog screen with relevant info, I save it, and at this 
point data is pushed to the MemberOfCollection relationship form and committed 
via a filter using parent instance id, ci name, etc stored in hidden fields on 
the child form.

This all works just as planned except for one thing.  For some reason 2 (TWO) 
relationships are being created each time.

I have checked AL and Filter logs and cant find what is causing the 2nd 
relationship.

Has anyone come across a similar situation in their past?

Any ideas on where to look would be appreciated.

Hi Bhupesh,
The short answer is yes. The Crystal reports runtime bundled with the user
tool uses the Remedy ODBC driver that interacts with the Remedy app server.
I believe the license is also only applicable to data sourced via a Remedy
app server. At a minimum you will need to have ARS installed and pointing
to your database copy.

Not many issues with putting a custom app into Atrium CMDB.  

 

Watch for issues around multi-tenancy if you are going to be using MT.

Ensure that you have permissions set up and that multi-tenancy is working 
correctly before you attempt to extend the CMDB with forms or new attributes.

Adding Custom Applications to ITSM 7.6 Application List Menu

In ITSM 7.6, there is the SHR:LandingConsole form that you see when you
first log into ITSM.  On this form, you can click on the >> button to
expand the navigation pane that contains the application list.  If you
select 'Incident Management' -> Incident Management Console, then that
console appears in the view (z2VF_01) field on SHR:LandingConsole.  I have
multiple custom applications that I would like to have appear in the
application list and when selected show up in the view field the way that
the Incident Management Console does.  Does anyone have any experience with
this?
