Hi Folks!

Just had to re-open this thread...

I have been quoting Matt on Fast, Accurate, Cheap Pick two for years
now, but just found an interesting blog by someone named Brad Neuberg and he
usess a similar, more elaborate phrase he calls square of development:

(see:

The following Wikipedia site also goes into more detail on this subject:

Re: Dev Studio 7.6.04 - Can't update join criteria

2012-09-24 Thread Longwing, LJ CTR MDA/IC
Well Thad, you have yourself in a pretty ugly little pickle there. At a
minimum you have found a documentation bug, because I never noticed the 'can
do' of Join qualification...but looking back, I see that you are 100% correct,
it states the same thing in both the Can and Cannot do sections...I would open
a bug with BMC on that certainly.

You certainly only have one option at this point, which is to create your field
in base mode, then update the join in base as well...but neither of them
'should' need to be done that wayso a contact to BMC is certainly in play
at this point.

I have a follow up question to make sure I understand this.

To recap:
 - I've added a field to APR:Approver Lookup (creating an overlay), and want to
use that field as part of the join criteria in a join form
(SRS:RequestApproversLookup).
 - The system doesn't allow join criteria on overlays to be edited, so I am
forced to edit the join in Base mode.
 - In order to use the field in the join criteria, I need to add it the join
form.

The issue:
 - The new field on APR:Approver Lookup is not in the list of fields that can
be added to the join form (when in Base Development mode.)
 - It IS on the list if I switch to Best Practice mode.

Therefore (???):
 - The field on the underlying form needs to be added in Base Development mode

Is that true? This small customization is getting me farther away from
following best practices and I want to make sure I don't deviate any more than
necessary.

Thanks,
Thad
P.S. LJ - I re-read that entire section, and the table on page 131, it does
list Join qualification in the Can modify column. Even though right next
to it in the Cannot modify column it says Join form information (cannot
change underlying forms, join option, type, qualifier information)

- Display-only form information (type)
- Join form information (cannot change underlying forms, join

- Origin fields (cannot delete)
- Unique index
- Vendor form information (cannot change the associated

Soobviously the important one is the third bullet.

LJ,

I was hoping it was something simple that didn't require a BMC

The SRM:Request form was already overlaid due to other changes.
I had to overlay the view on the join form to add the field from the

You certainly need to overlay the join form, but being you aren't making

Well, time to stop waiting and book it now.

Our conference rates ends today for the hotel, and we have been told that
the hotel will sell out

(some of our pre and post conference nights are already sold out for the

But they may allow it today anyway, the hotel has been very co-operative).

Hope to see more of you at the conference.

Hi,

cmdbdriver and cmdbdiag utilities are used to perform cmdb/reconcilation
related activities through command line (when the tool is not working
properly)

cmdbdriver - is used for creating/modifying classes/attributes;
imorting/exporting attribute or class metadata from one server to another or
resynchronizing pending cmdb transictions etc..

cmdbdiag - is used for CI and relationship check and data integrity check.

AIE Targetsql stmt with variables ERR -- Data type undefined

2012-09-24 Thread Logan, Kelly
This seems like it should be very easy, but I can't get it working.

I am using AIE from CMDB 7.6.4 SP2 to feed in People data. I am trying to use
the Targetsql statement to for lookups and mapping data values. For example, I
need to set the manager login id for an employee, but all I have is their name,
so I use the following:

Targetsql | select Login_ID
from CTM_People
where Profile_Status = 'Enabled' and Full_Name = $Supervisor$

From the AIE user guide, this should put the current value for $Supervisor$ in
place and then run the query. Instead, what I get is:

[Mon Sep 10 2012 13:34:41.9660] - TID: 001 ERR*** Field Mapping Error
for Targetsql | select Login_ID
from CTM_People
where Profile_Status = 'Enabled' and Full_Name = $Supervisor$

[Mon Sep 10 2012 13:34:41.9660] - TID: 001 ERR-- Data type undefined

I have also tried '$Supervisor$' with the same result. Is there some other
delimiter I should be using, or do I need to be \ing something? Anyone that
has successfully passed variables into an AIE Targetsql statement, please let
me know the recipe.

Humor on my part because today was the announcement (delayed) by David earlier
today, with it actually being released on Friday. I unfortunately wasn't part

any more than anyone else. I'm personally excited about being able to try out
some of the features I read about this morning.

I, along with others I'm sure, am very happy that BMC is taking a stance of
ensuring things are working 'as advertised' before advertisements start...there
have been a number of rocky releases over the years that at times make you
wonder if a particular feature was even tested before it went out the door, so
a greater focus on testing and reliability will always be a hit with this crowd.

Thanks for all you do for us Douglook forward to meeting you in 3 weeks.

Hello all,

I am trying to assign one of my users the functional role that will allow
them to create incident mgmt decision tree configurations. They have the
ability to create templates (Support Group Admin). But they cannot see the
option to create decision trees or scripts.

Does anyone know what the role is?

Thanks,

ITSM 8.0 in Production

2012-09-24 Thread Mike Gould
Congratulations to the BMC Team on the 8.0 GA!
The U.S. House of Representatives participated in BMC's Select Market
Availability (early release) program and has been running 8.0 in production
since September 4th.
There are some great new features in 8.0 (redesigned SRM interface, Social
Collaboration, Email Rules Engine, Copy/Paste Workflow elements, Wiki-style
documentation, and many more) that we're really excited about.

We upgraded from ITSM 7.6.00 over the summer and 8.0 has been one of the
most stable releases I can remember in my 12+ years developing Remedy
applications.
I definitely recommend everyone take a hard look and start planning your
next upgrade sooner than later.

See everyone at WWRUG12!

Does anyone have any suggestions or best practice recommendations for
putting the Remedy Mid-Tier on Secure Socket Layer?

Re: Remedy Mid-Tier on SSL

2012-09-24 Thread Nathan Aker
It's pretty simple, just follow your web server's steps for installing the cert
file and configuring the web server for SSL. You will of course have to obtain
an SSL certificate for your server. There's nothing that has to be done
beyond that in the Mid-Tier, it's all related to the web server config.
Consult the documentation for your flavor of web server.I configured it on
our Apache/Tomcat servers (on Linux boxes), it was about 5 steps. Took about
30 minutes once I figured out the steps and how to apply the cert.

WWRUG12 - Breaks All Records! (And the confidence a Remedy Rockstar tattoo provides)

2012-09-24 Thread bullcreek.com
So I can tell you with confidence that we have the Greatest number of sessions
EVER at a WWRUG event since we started putting it on in '09 (over 100 Breakout
Sessions this year and we had to add another room to our normal schedule of
five rooms every day). We have (according to my sources) the highest number of
registrations to date this year for any WWRUG we have ever put on for you (and
we still have 20 days to go)! Plus (S)...I just re-ordered 1000 of the
Remedy Rockstar tattoos made famous by all of you at our Celebration in '10.

Perhaps I should give you a few key reasons to attend WWRUG12 this year (In no
particular order - Credit: Doug Mueller):

10. The Greatest Number of Breakout Sessions to date for a WWRUG event.
9. Renewed Vigor for Evening with Engineering (No one leaves until all
questions are addressed - including Darius and Doug - note: alcohol may be
involved)
8. Access to BMC Engineers, Product Managers, and Technical folks (at least
three folks from Support are going to be there and one of them, Carin Sinclair,
is going to present on how to get the most out of your support calls by
leveraging logs etc.)
7. You get to see all of our Sponsors and visit their booths to see/touch/test
drive some really cool new/updated tools/apps including the centrally located
BMC booth! (http://www.wwrug12.com/sponsors.html)
6. Entertainment - We are brining back The Brew this year
(http://www.brewmusic.com/) - but they will be doing two Smooth Jazz sets for
us this year, plus our very own Remedy Rockstar band including guest
appearances by some of our own Remedy crowd (you will just have to come to
find out who!).
5. You get to see the new tattoo we have created for this year's conference
(plus we will have some more Remedy Rockstar tattoos for when you are out
strolling the streets at night in your Hawaiian shirt - make sure you roll up
your sleeves to reveal your ink, Theresa...)
4. Great food (trust me we have tried it!)
3. Lots of nearby activities, restaurants, shopping, etc.
(https://maps.google.com/maps?f=qsource=s_qhl=engeocode=CQSsqW8jx6h4FeqnOQIdVB68-CknFWMju8yPgDE9hgdwL7bS-gq=restaurants,+loc:+The+Fairmont+San+Jose+Hotel,+170+South+Market+Street,+San+Jose,+CA+95113aq=sll=37.332631,-121.04sspn=0.010988,0.026071vpsrc=0t=hie=UTF8hq=restaurants,hnear=ll=37.332972,-121.888976spn=0.010988,0.026071z=16)
2. Great weather outside and no smoking inside (we heard you at the Hard Rock
last time)!
1. You get to see all of your ARSList and WWRUG friends!

If you haven't registered and need to quickly, here are the links to the hotel
and conference:

Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: functional role question

2012-09-24 Thread Stroud, Natalie K
I don’t know who sabrown is but kudos to him or her for this neat little
utility. I created an Access db with this info, but I didn’t have time to make
it really slick, so I end up having to page through ALL the functional roles
and permissions until I find the one I need. (Luckily I generally at least
know whether what I need is permission or functional role!)

This is cool because you punch in what behavior you need and it tells you what
permission or functional role gives that. However, one potential ‘gotcha’ I see
with this is when a functional role or permission provides multiple app
behaviors and you’re okay with users getting one behavior but not the other –
if I pick Add or Remove Support Staff from Support Groups, for instance, I
don’t see something cueing me that Support Group Admin also gives Access to
Modify Incident Templates. At least with permissions, I think ITSM lets you see
everything the permission lets a user do at the time you go to add it, but I
don’t remember offhand whether it shows the equivalent info with functional
roles.

In the end, it still boils down to the need to really know both the permissions
and the functional roles. – what they do and how willing you are to take on the
headaches associated with whatever problems your users create for themselves
using their shiny new privileges!

fyi on work-info update from xx to 7.6.x

2012-09-24 Thread Goodall, Andrew C
Hey all,

FYI for anyone upgrading to 7.6.04

The upgrade process nor DDM will catch work-info notes where detailed
description (notes) is null.

In our case many users made work-info notes and just typed a quick
summary and nothing in the notes (detailed description).

In 7.6.04 BMC only use detailed description and do a left 100 char to
insert into description (summary) for new entries.

Well that doesn't help those existing entries where user has not entered
work-info detailed description and therefore the work-info tables show a
null line.

We had to issue a sql update to fix:

update HPD_WorkLog set Detailed_Description = Description where
Detailed_Description is null;

update PBM_Investigation_WorkLog set Detailed_Description = Description
where Detailed_Description is null;

update CHG_WorkLog set Detailed_Description = Description where
Detailed_Description is null;

update WOI_WorkInfo set Detailed_Description = Description where
Detailed_Description is null;

Re: Remedy Mid-Tier on SSL

2012-09-24 Thread Axton
Where you make the change all depends on your software stack. Are you
using a web server? Which one? If not, what J2EE container are you using?
Are you using a load balancer? The SSL configuration is typically done at
the endpoint that the user agent connects to. This could be the load
balancer, if you use one; it could be the web server, if you use one; or it
could be the J2EE container.

There have been a number of conversations around how to do something with
the web tier, but very little information about the software/hardware stack
in use. The implementation specifics depend on what you are using. Best
suggestion for everyone on the list who wants to know how to do X with the
web configuration (context path, ssl, etc.) is to outline your
software/hardware stack as it pertains to the web tier.
