For those that couldn’t hear (or understand) the lyrics being sung at the
celebration – here they are!

Get Over It lyrics
SONGWRITERS: Henley, Don; Frey, Glenn Lewis;

Parody by David J. Easter

I read ARSList and what do I see?
A lotta people cryin’ for the W-A-T
They point their crooked little fingers at Dev Studio
They’re shakin’ their heads sayin’ nothing but “No”.
It doesn’t do that and it doesn’t do this
They want to keep their Admin Tool from 1996

Get over it!
Get over it!
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it! Get over it!

You say you can’t develop since you switched in 7.5
But you might feel better if we keep the User Tool alive
The more I think about it old Dougie was right
Let’s drop the support, drop it tonight
You don’t wanna upgrade, want your maintenance for free
This ain’t open source – it’s B-M-C Remedy

Get over it!
Get over it!
Read the documentation, it’ll help quite a bit
Get over it! Get over it!

I yell at my screen every time you start a brand new poll
This horse is now dead, you’re out of control
You think you’re a rebel, I think you’re a troll, yeah yeah yeah

Yeah you’re draggin’ your feet - the future is here
You might as well accept it - your path is crystal clear
If you don’t adapt, we won’t keep you around

Instead of writing workflow you’d just bring our servers down
Complain about the present - you’re livin’ in the past
So come next year to WWRUG – we’ll kick your little ass!

Get over it!
Get over it!
You need 3 extra screens to make the panels all fit?
Get over it! Get over it!

Get over it!
Get over it!
Dan will throw you off the list if you don’t call it quits!
Get over it! Get over it!

several instances of AR System on the same box

2012-10-19 Thread Remedy Maniac

hi list,

we are running AR Syste, 7.5 patch 7 on a Solaris 10 box with a Sybase 15.
We would like to upgrade at some point to 8. Quiet soon.
But by then we still need our 7.5 installation.
My understanding is that I could install the AR System 8 on the same box
using a new DB on the same Sybase server.

Can anybody confirm that please?
Is there any specifics to pay attention to?
Are there any known issues with such config?

Best wishes before the ... sunny :-) here in South Germany ... week-end

Yes you can do that with following consideration:

1) Hardware requirement for 8.0 ( Refer 8.0 Installing Guide - Before you
install Topic)
2) Compatibility Matrix (OS / Database version-patch etc - refer 8.0
compatibility matrix doc)
3) licensing requirement, you need to purge 7.5 license key and apply it for
8.0 or else you need to buy new license key for 8.0

of course we will use a new license key when the real upgrade will come.

Presently my intention is only to evaluate the product and see what it
looks like.
So my concern is really if i can safely install the AR System 8 (for

and licensed AR System 7.5 ? using 2 different databases on the same
RDBMS server, namely Sybase 15. I've checked the Matrix for

Approval Rule to stop a rejection from closing the process.

2012-10-19 Thread fikebr
When an Ad-Hoc approval is created and 3 aprovers are manually added then one
of the approvers rejects the other 2 approvals are closed and the Approval
process is finished. Is there a rule that I can set up in my Ad-Hoc process
that will stop the other two approvals from being closed? The goal is to
allow all three of the approvers a chance to approve or reject.

My first try was to create a Completion Rule and set the Run If qalification
to $Total Pending$ = 0. The idea being that even if one is rejected the
other two are pending and this would send the approval cycle back to the
'Prep Next Approver' stage.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Approval Rule to stop a rejection from closing the process.

2012-10-19 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Do you have some conditions that must be met? In your example of three
approvers, do they all have the same weight? For example, if the I.T. Manager
and I.T. Director are added as approvers and either one can approve and have it
still go through, but if the Business manager is added and they can override
everyone else, it gets sticky.

Also, do you have a static number of approvers or could it be any number?
Either way, you may have to look at averaging the approves versus rejected
items. In any case, you're potentially getting into some very complex
requirements since you have to take into consideration each and every
possibility.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

2012-10-19 Thread Givens, Gregory CTR NPC, Pers 54
You should be able to do this with a Completion rule and 2 Statistical Override
Rules
The Completion Rule needs a Run if like (($Total Approved$ + $Total Rejected$)
= $Total Signatures$)
The Statistical Override Rules (One Approved, One Rejected) will be dependent
on if you still want the process rejected from 1 reject or a percentage of
Rejects vs. Approvals or All must reject.
The following is from an All Must Reject
Approve Statistical Override Run if: ($Total Approved$ + $Total Rejected$ =
$Total Signatures$)  AND $Total Rejected$ !=  $Total Signatures$
Reject Statistical Override Run If: $Total Rejected$ = $Total Signatures$

Don't know this person

2012-10-19 Thread Brittain, Mark
HI All,

Have been around ARS 6.3 for a long time but moving to ITSM 7.6.04 is in some
ways like stepping on another planet. Have a requirement to create Incident
either via email or web services and plan on using the
HPDL:IncidentInterface_Create form. In this situation the person making the
request will not be in the People form. OOB if the First Name* and Last Name*
or First Name+ and Last Name+ don't match, I get an error.

What would be the best way to create the Incident and get around this
constraint? Filter with a GoTO?, add something to error filter so it does not
first in this situation?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,
Will the submitter ever become an entry in ctm:people?
If not, then you can create a service account or dummy user and hard code
the info in your integration.
If the user eventually becomes a record in your system and you want to
update the previous record, you could parse some field nightly to match the
person and update those incident records.

Re: Approval Rule to stop a rejection from closing the process.

2012-10-19 Thread Sabyson Fernandes
You may need to make changes to the Approval Process Definition for the Ad-hoc
approval process. View the approval process defined and check the 'If Multiple
Approvers' setting. If one must sign, it will cancel out the other approvals.
If All must sign then it will keep the other approval records active.

The number of approvers is variable but ther are no other conditions. The
only thing that I'm trying to do is keep the process from completing when
the first approver rejects.

Re: EXTERNAL: Updates via Import into Asset

2012-10-19 Thread Lisa Kemes
Hi John!

That's not it. The leading zeros are still there. I get an error message
that the ClassID can't be BMC_PRINTER (or BMC_COMPUTERSYSTEM etc) and it
needs to be BMC_ASSETBASE. So I changed it in my .csv file and now I'm
able to import my changes. I then just change it back to BMC_PRINTER, etc.

Weird.

Thanks again!

If the Request-ID field does not have a prefix I’ll bet that then leading
 zeros are missing.

When you open a .csv in excel it treats Request-ID values as numbers and
 strips the leading zeros.

You can always format the column a special case and set the template as
 000, that’s 15 zeros.

Save the file and it will and the Request-ID with the correct number of
 zeros.

 Hello all!! :)

We import assets into the AST:XXX forms (for example AST:Monitor). We do
not use AIE. Customer imported records into the AST:Monitor form and put
hyphens in the serial number and would like to take them out (the
hyphens). We exported the data into a .csv file, cleared out the hyphens
and now would like to import the updates.

Is there an easy way to do this? I tried doing an import using the data
import tool (using the Update Old Record with New Record's Data option
under Handle Duplicate Request IDs by) and it wants to add this to the
 database, not update it.

 Any ideas?

Re: Don't know this person

2012-10-19 Thread Peters, Ron
That's similar to what we do. ~25-30% of our incidents are created with that
form via email. I use the OOTB email engine and that form for ticket creation.
I handle all the logic of how the tickets are created prior to the email being
sent to Remedy. We have a faceless account called remedyemail that is used in
the way Tauf mentioned. If a user sends a message and their account is wonked
for some reason, the system takes the error response email and creates a
different incident ticket for the admins to deal with (fix account or some
other remediation). That's the main downside that it doesn't have access to the
database and make that determination at the time of ticket creation. In our
situation, it's very infrequent.

Re: Illegal Group Reference error during data import

2012-10-19 Thread Rick Westbrock
This turns out to be one of the strangest things I've seen in a long time. BMC
Support came back to me and said that they were able to import the problem
records using the 8.0 Data Import tool using the Suppress Field Default Values
option. Even using that option with the 7.6.04 tool didn't work but I can
import the problem records using the 8.0 tool on my servers. My support tech is
submitting this as a defect for the 7.6.04 tool.

AIF and Overlays

Does anyone know of a way to create overlays of all of the OOB AIF workflow at
once? I am not looking forward to right clicking on 179 AL's and selecting

pre 7.6.04, however BMC is recommending that I not do this. This in a brand

Work Order and Service Request - work info notifications

2012-10-19 Thread Logan, Kelly
We have ITSM 7.6.4, with Service Requests creating Work Orders.

Users have requested notifications in two circumstances:

1. A Work Order fulfiller puts a question into a Work Info entry to
request extra information from the Service Request-er - notify the Service
Requester.

2. A Service Request-er adds Work Info entry onto Service Request -
notify Work Order fulfiller.

It seems like the pieces for this are there (SRS-REQ-NotifyEndUser message, for
example), but I'm having problems nailing down the circumstances under which
they occur. Is this listed somewhere in the docs someone can point me to, or
otherwise explain how to make this happen?

Re: AIF and Overlays

2012-10-19 Thread Joshua Taylor
Hey Tauf,

I am creating AIF's for services that have criteria that cannot be met by a
standard SRD. BMC now recommends that instead of copying the OOB AL's,
Filters, and Guides (which is what BMC recommended be done before overlays were
introduced), you should attach your AIF's to the OOB workflow. The issue is
that in order to use 'Best Practice Customization Mode' one must first create
overlays of all OOB workflow that is to be modified, or change them to Custom
forms (which defeats the purpose of overlays and will be a major headache come
upgrade/patch time). So at this point I am faced with the daunting task of
clicking and modifying each piece of workflow at least once if not twice. And
considering there are 179 Active Links, 20 Filters, 20 Active Link Guides, and
2 Filter Guides associated with the form
SRS:AdvancedInterface_WithBackendMapping I am looking at an extremely long
process to create my first AIF. Once I have the first AIF done then any future
ones should be quite easy as I can edit multiple active links and filters all
at once.

Hope this makes sense. I am going to attempt to create an overlay of the SRM
application and will keep everyone updated as to how it goes.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: WWRUG BMC Sale Rumors

2012-10-19 Thread Pierson, Shawn
My personal (as in don't make any decisions based on this, especially
financial) opinion is that since BMC shares have stabilized from the massive
freefall of last year and reached a bottom of around $31/share earlier this
year, potential buyers may wait to see if BMC's sales stabilize. I'm not sure
that BMC's competitors are doing all that well either, as it seems like the
software industry in general isn't doing great unless you can hop on the
buzzword train. It seems like BMC is trying really hard to do that since they
have put so much attention on marketing their cloud computing management tools.

Josh,
Not providing a solution here but looking for the reasoning behind this out of
curiosity.
I think 8.0 gives you the ability to overlay an entire application which could
do what you are saying.

My personal (as in don’t make any decisions based on this, especially
financial) opinion is that since BMC shares have stabilized from the massive
freefall of last year and reached a bottom of around $31/share earlier this
year, potential buyers may wait to see if BMC’s sales stabilize. I’m not
sure that BMC’s competitors are doing all that well either, as it seems like
the software industry in general isn’t doing great unless you can hop on the
buzzword train. It seems like BMC is trying really hard to do that since
they have put so much attention on marketing their cloud computing management
 tools.

Did anyone hear any good rumors at the RUG concerning the reports that BMC
was hiring Bank of America to help it get sold? I’m sure that after a few too
many drinks some of the BMC folks probably let go some secrets concerning
 this.

Jose,

It's not a question that would come up. Those that do know are under legal
obligations and can't say anything.

2012-10-19 Thread patchsk
Don't know specifically about version 8.0
But have you looked into BPCU utility that comes with the installation?
There is command line option to include or exclude objects to create
overlays using an xml file or a prefix.

2012-10-19 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza

Again not offering a solution here but you might want to look into the
Developer community resources to see if there is a plugin developed and
available to achieve what you want to.. There is a lot of interesting stuff
there in terms of Dev Studio plugins that may save you time on something like
this.. I am not saying there may be one for this particular requirement, but
you might be able to resolve other issues you may be having by exploring what's
available there in those resources from time to time..

Cheers

Ok so I tried creating an overlay of the SRM application and it did what I
thought it would. It created the overlay of just the application itself. It
did not touch the forms or any of the workflow associated with it. So at this
point I am back to touching each piece of workflow individually. I may open a
ticket with BMC on Monday about it to see what they say I should be doing since
it is their recommendation that I use the OOB workflow instead of making copies
like we did in the pre 7.6.04 SRM system.

Hey Tauf,

I am creating AIF’s for services that have criteria that cannot be met by a
standard SRD. BMC now recommends that instead of copying the OOB AL’s,
Filters, and Guides (which is what BMC recommended be done before overlays were
introduced), you should attach your AIF’s to the OOB workflow. The issue is
that in order to use ‘Best Practice Customization Mode’ one must first create
overlays of all OOB workflow that is to be modified, or change them to Custom
forms (which defeats the purpose of overlays and will be a major headache come
upgrade/patch time).

Thanks,

Josh
