Look like a MT cache curruption issue.
Try hard deelting the MT cache file and then start the service again.
This will re-build the fresh cache files.

Re: WWRUG/ARSlist Awards 2013: Nominations for MVP etc. and New Categories now open

2013-07-08 Thread Dariusz Kuzara

Lister, LJ, Joe,

I have in my mind one former BMC empoyee who is not BMC emplyee anymore. Will he
be aligible to be voted as MVP?
As far as I racall, once upon a time there was a category for the most valuable
Remedy/.../BMC/ list contributor. Am I right or my memory has been already
deteriorating?

Best regards,

Darek Kuzara

**

Oh good to see it back!

I don't remember if we could nominate more than one -- I know we have to vote
for just one. But in the event of an opinion where 2 people deserve a
nomination, is that allowed?

Also in the past I recall a BMC / Remedy employee could not be nominated. IF
that person at the time of the nomination is no longer a BMC employee, is he /
she eligible to be nominated as a MVP?

*Subject:* WWRUG/ARSlist Awards 2013: Nominations for MVP etc. and New
Categories now open

**

Daniel has chosen to do things a bit differently this year. He has decided to
let the incumbent MVP, that's me this year, run the Awards.

This is the 18th Annual ARSlist Awards, Call For Nominations.

These awards were created by Daniel in 1995 to recognize the efforts of
posters asking questions, those providing answers, and sometimes even of those
providing what is titled as Friday Humor, and even sometimes gets a laugh.

It was also to provide posters an incentive to keep providing those excellent
technical replies and perhaps improve the quality of the jokes (but that
doesn't seem to ever happen).

The Rules for Nominations and some General Rules:

* An individual wishing to submit a nomination for MVP must also provide a
short description of WHY they deserve to be MVP for the nomination to be
considered (this is a change from previous years requiring two independent
nominations)

* The years postings are somewhat reviewed to ensure that this is someone who
posts quality answers. ( Not that anyone has ever been rejected on this basis)

* Only those that have registered on the ARSlist before July 3rd 2013 will be
eligible to vote. It is assumed you won't vote if you haven't been around
long enough to know the posters in question. In the unlikely event of another
tie, the person or product with the greatest number of sources of votes will
be declared winner. If it is still a tie, a panel of past winners will
convene to break the tie.

* Voting and nominating is by the Individual REAL person, so redistribution
lists don't vote, your identity must be known, and those that have multiple
subscriptions still get only one vote

* BMC Software employees on the ARSlist are eligible to vote

* All decisions of Daniel or the oversight panel are final (if a controversial
decision is needed, 3 past MVP winners will be asked for their opinion)

* Nominations posted to the list are not accepted, they must be to
arslistawa...@wwrug.com mailto:arslistawa...@wwrug.com

* Votes posted to the list are not accepted, they must be to
arslistawa...@wwrug.com mailto:arslistawa...@wwrug.com

* Any MVP from the last 5 years and anyone from the WWRUG committee are not
eligible for nomination

Past MVP [Most Valuable Poster Award] recipients are:

-

2012 LJ LongWing

2011 Misi Mladoniczky

2010 Joe D'Souza

2009 Dr. Christopher Strauss

2007 Rick Cook

2006 Axton Grams

2005 Tim Widowfield

2004 Matt Reinfeldt

2003 Carey Matthew Black

2002 Chris Woyton

2001 Gidd Calden

2000 Jarl Groneng, Tommy Nijem

1999 Rick Cook

1998 Raymond Leach

1997 Vicky Bayol

1996 Joel D. Sender

1995 Martin Nystrom

So, the two open categories are

-

*MVP - Most Valuable Poster.

This is the person you feel has contributed the most to the list in a
combination of quality and quantity. Anyone who has won the award in the last
5 years, current BMC or BMC Remedy employees are not eligible. An individual
must be nominated by at least two independent sources.

BMC Software Employee: Beyond the Call of Duty Award (Note, they must be a
current employee to qualify)

Again, an individual must be nominated by at least two independent sources.

Nominations for other Categories are also open until July 21st

Nominate a potential winner for another Category while you suggest the
category if you wish

[no Nominations, no Award will be conferred in that category there must be
more than one Nomination for a category etc.]

Please send nominations to arslistawa...@wwrug.com

Software categories are currently being handled by on-site Awards at WWRUG
with the vendors in the Showcase being eligible. The ARSlist Awards

Joe,

The system was not set to update automatically. It is a standalone system with
local Network. The system earlier working with patch 8 with JDK 1.5.0.15
(minimum recommended 1.5.0.12). The version is still the same. The issue
history includes some changes in arsystem startup script as well. We have given
the java path manually in script as
/usr/java/jre/lib/sparc/server:/usr/java/jre/bin. Earlier, it was
/usr/bin/java, which is not helping us to start up arsystem after patch 9
upgrade.

We have some confusion to update the java path in environment variables of
solaris. The system has 32 bit and 64 bit java. But, which is the right path to
point in what variables is our confusion. Can anybody guide for setting up JDK.

You probably may have not deliberately changed anything but might have set your

hence it cannot find it anymore.

Have you checked to see that your JVM path is consistent with the configuration
settings in Remedy, particularly the process that starts the plugin service?

Cheers

Yes Joe, I have checked by running the plugin start up command thru command

Apart from your class path examine the plugin startup command in the armonitor

Yes Joe, I have checked by running the plugin start up command thru command

The problem happens when I get HPI library error while restarting it.

Based on my reading of Daniel's mail, yes, that person would
be eligible for MVP this year, as long as they are not an employee as of
July 3rd.

 **

Daniel has chosen to do things a bit differently this year. He has
decided to let the incumbent MVP, that's me this year, run the Awards.

 ** **

This is the 18th Annual ARSlist Awards, Call For Nominations.

 ** **

These awards were created by Daniel in 1995 to recognize the efforts of
posters asking questions, those providing answers, and sometimes even of
those providing what is titled as Friday Humor, and even sometimes gets a
 laugh.

 ** **

It was also to provide posters an incentive to keep providing those
excellent technical replies and perhaps improve the quality of the jokes
(but that doesn't seem to ever happen).

 ** **

The Rules for Nominations and some General Rules:

 ** **

 * An individual wishing to submit a nomination for MVP must also provide a
short description of WHY they deserve to be MVP for the nomination to be
considered (this is a change from previous years requiring two independent
 nominations)

 * The years postings are somewhat reviewed to ensure that this is someone
who posts quality answers. ( Not that anyone has ever been rejected on this
 basis)

 * Only those that have registered on the ARSlist before July 3rd 2013 will
be eligible to vote. It is assumed you won't vote if you haven't been
around long enough to know the posters in question. In the unlikely event
of another tie, the person or product with the greatest number of sources
of votes will be declared winner. If it is still a tie, a panel of past
winners will convene to break the tie.

 * Voting and nominating is by the Individual REAL person, so
redistribution lists don't vote, your identity must be known, and those
that have multiple subscriptions still get only one vote

 * BMC Software employees on the ARSlist are eligible to vote

 * All decisions of Daniel or the oversight panel are final (if a
controversial decision is needed, 3 past MVP winners will be asked for
 their opinion)

 * Nominations posted to the list are not accepted, they must be to
 arslistawa...@wwrug.com

 * Votes posted to the list are not accepted, they must be to
 arslistawa...@wwrug.com

 * Any MVP from the last 5 years and anyone from the WWRUG committee are
 not eligible for nomination

 ** **

Past MVP [Most Valuable Poster Award] recipients are:

 -

 2012 LJ LongWing

 2011 Misi Mladoniczky

 2010 Joe D’Souza

 2009 Dr. Christopher Strauss

 2007 Rick Cook

 2006 Axton Grams

 2005 Tim Widowfield

 2004 Matt Reinfeldt

 2003 Carey Matthew Black

 2002 Chris Woyton

 2001 Gidd Calden

 2000 Jarl Groneng, Tommy Nijem

 1999 Rick Cook

 1998 Raymond Leach

 1997 Vicky Bayol

 1996 Joel D. Sender

 1995 Martin Nystrom

 ** **

So, the two open categories are

 -

 *MVP - Most Valuable Poster.

 ** **

This is the person you feel has contributed the most to the list in a
combination of quality and quantity. Anyone who has won the award in the
last 5 years, current BMC or BMC Remedy employees are not eligible. An
individual must be nominated by at least two independent sources.

 ** **

BMC Software Employee: Beyond the Call of Duty Award (Note, they must be a
 current employee to qualify)

 ** **

Again, an individual must be nominated by at least two independent sources.

In my opinion, that person should have left BMC Software during the same period
that a new subscriber is eligible to vote, so since its 3rd of July 2013 for a
new ARS Lister to be eligible to vote this year, then a candidate previously in
employment with BMC Software should have left BMC before 3rd July 2013 as well
to be eligible. IF not that date then some reasonable date that is in some way
related to the voting eligibility date to keep the rule consistent every year.

There is 1 Nomination, and one Vote per person. Each nomination from each
independent person, this year needs to come with a paragraph of sorts
describing WHY they feel the person in question deserves to be the 2013 MVP.

All nominations need to go to the aforementioned email address

And the rule has always been that you cannot work for BMC and be
nominated...and I assume the person in question is no longer an employee...I'm
not entirely sure about the rules regarding this...not sure we have come across
a rule regarding this in the past...I'll let Daniel decide, unless I get to
decide because I'm running this thing this year

Daniel?

About the number of people one person could nominate, it used to be 3 right? So
nominations were not restricted to just 1 candidate per person - right?

So we had a debate about continuing this tradition last year and many of us
thought we should. Many of you who are generally silent viewers, supported this
and promised to actively take part in the nomination / voting process if it
were continued. And it has been decided to be continued.

It doesn't take a lot of time to vote - and even lesser time to nominate as you
already know who your favorite posters who post quality stuff are.. So please
participate! Personally I think it's a great incentive and recognition for
those who provide us with a wealth of information here free of charge. Not many
things these days of substantial value come free. And yet this list seems to
defy that unwritten law of economics which is if it's valuable - it can't be
free. Let this be your way of contributing even though you might not otherwise
actively participate on this list.

Cheers

NTS number in 7.6.4

Good morning/afternoon/evening all,

I am working with a third party vendor, that thinks is can send out a URL to
the users, that when clicked on will open up an incident or change (just using
an incident or change number)

I know that the notifications now coming out of ITSM 7.6.4 reference a NTS
number and the NTE Notifier form. So my question is where does the NTS number
live? Is there a copy of that number on the Helpdesk or Change form?

Any ideas would be great (just be nice).

As always thank you, you all,

Re: NTS number in 7.6.4

2013-07-08 Thread Downing, Ryan
Hi Howard,

By default the Notify action will send a URL containing the Request ID of the
form from where the notification is sentIn your case the NTE:Notifier form.
You could write workflow to construct a URL using the Incident/Change or
whatever number required and bypass the default URL attached as a function of
the specific NTE:Notifier form filter. The actual Incident ID for example is
stored on the NTE:Notifier form in the Request ID01 System field. Use the
existing default URL passed as the foundation for building a URL that can
passed which contains the form and Request ID in the specified field.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ryan.

Re: NTS number in 7.6.4

2013-07-08 Thread Longwing, Lj
Howard,
The NTS number is nothing more than a generic 'pointer' form. When a
notification is sent out through that form, it points to that form, the
form opens on the screen, and based on information in the record, it closes
THAT window and opens the appropriate window (Incident, Change, etc)so
yes, you can definitely link directly to the Incident/Change. Open up your
Mid-Tier guide and research creating URL's and it discusses many methods
possible to get directly to the record in question.

Hi Howard,

I know there's a doc about direct ticket links out there somewhere, but we
could never get them to work in 7.6.04. Essentially we had to pass an
advanced query in an encoded url.

Incident:

Thanks LJ. We tried using EID numbers first, but it would never return a

My guess about what's wrong with the URL is that it contains an asterisk (not a

the Mid-Tier application that URL-encodes strings you provide -- documented

 Jon,

You only need to do the 'qual' route if you don't have easy access to the
request ID of the record (which is different than the displayed
incident/change/problem id), if using the EID method, no trailing encoded
 values are necessary.

 Good morning/afternoon/evening all,

I am working with a third party vendor, that thinks is can send out a URL
to the users, that when clicked on will open up an incident or change (just
using an incident or change number)

I know that the notifications now coming out of ITSM 7.6.4 reference a NTS
number and the NTE Notifier form. So my question is where does the NTS
number live? Is there a copy of that number on the Helpdesk or Change form?

Any ideas would be great (just be nice).

As always thank you, you all,

ITSM 8.1 Forms and Fields spreadsheet available

2013-07-08 Thread Ben Chernys
Hi Folks,

We've added the ITSM 8.1 Forms and Fields spreadsheet to our Freebies
section. You can get the spreadsheet or the raw CSV files. Also available
are the Forms and Fields for ITSM 8.0 and ITSM 7.6.04.

The spreadsheet will give you the label for the null or English views, IDs,
Names, as well as an interpreted field type, limits, default values from
an OOTB stack install of ITSM.

If you need to generate it against your own server (because of
customizations) then simply fill out the Meta-Update trial license, attend
the Live Install session. In your trial you can run Meta-Schema against
your server(s) and generate your own spreadsheets.

Note that the spreadsheet is big: ~2.5 M fields. The source CSV files are
also available with the spreadsheet for greps and other slices.

An interesting thing to do is take a diff (see www.cywin.org ) between the
various versions to see what fields were added or changed and what forms
were added.

For the free ITSM Forms and Fields spreadsheet, please go to
www.softwaretoolhouse.com and Click Freebies.

Impact Model Designer on AR System 7.6.4

2013-07-08 Thread Kathy Morris
Hi,

We are using Impact Model Designer to create a service model.

Does anyone know how the product catalog classifications can affect the
service model?

We would not be changing the CI name.

Does modifying the product catalog classifications (Hardware / Processing
Unit / Server / Manufacturer / Model) break the service model or change the
results?

In my opinion, that person should have left BMC Software during the same
period that a new subscriber is eligible to vote, so since its 3rd of July
2013 for a new ARS Lister to be eligible to vote this year, then a candidate
previously in employment with BMC Software should have left BMC before 3rd
July 2013 as well to be eligible. IF not that date then some reasonable date
that is in some way related to the voting eligibility date to keep the rule
consistent every year.

There is 1 Nomination, and one Vote per person. Each nomination from each
independent person, this year needs to come with a paragraph of sorts
describing WHY they feel the person in question deserves to be the 2013 MVP.

All nominations need to go to the aforementioned email address

And the rule has always been that you cannot work for BMC and be
nominated...and I assume the person in question is no longer an
employee...I'm not entirely sure about the rules regarding this...not sure
we have come across a rule regarding this in the past...I'll let Daniel
decide, unless I get to decide because I'm running this thing this year

About the number of people one person could nominate, it used to be 3 right?
So nominations were not restricted to just 1 candidate per person - right?

So we had a debate about continuing this tradition last year and many of us
thought we should. Many of you who are generally silent viewers, supported
this and promised to actively take part in the nomination / voting process
if it were continued. And it has been decided to be continued.

It doesn't take a lot of time to vote - and even lesser time to nominate as
you already know who your favorite posters who post quality stuff are.. So
please participate! Personally I think it's a great incentive and
recognition for those who provide us with a wealth of information here free
of charge. Not many things these days of substantial value come free. And
yet this list seems to defy that unwritten law of economics which is if it's
valuable - it can't be free. Let this be your way of contributing even
though you might not otherwise actively participate on this list.

2013-07-08 Thread LJ LongWing
Ok folksI remember an outcry last year, after the awards when people
were saying that they would vote, how important this list was to them, just
give you one more chancewhere is that passion? To date, we have a
total of 9 people that even sent an email...that's not much

We have 3 valid MVP nominees, and 2 BMC Above and Beyond

I know that I see more than 3 non bmc and 2 bmcers posting to the list in
the last year. There have been ALLOT of questions asked, and MANY people
that have helped out.

If you have been helped by someone on this list, and you feel they deserve
to be recognized, lets do this and recognize them. There can be only one
winner (in each category), but as a twice nominated person, I can tell you
that it was an honor to even be nominated the first time...so lets get to
this and nominate some of your favorite people on the list this year.

Remember, nominations need to be accompanied by a paragraph (or a sentence
even) saying WHY they deserve the honor of MVP.

On Wed, Jul 3, 2013 at 7:09 AM, LJ LongWing lj.longw...@gmail.com wrote:

Daniel has chosen to do things a bit differently this year. He has
decided to let the incumbent MVP, that's me this year, run the Awards.

This is the 18th Annual ARSlist Awards, Call For Nominations.

These awards were created by Daniel in 1995 to recognize the efforts of
posters asking questions, those providing answers, and sometimes even of
those providing what is titled as Friday Humor, and even sometimes gets a
 laugh.

It was also to provide posters an incentive to keep providing those
excellent technical replies and perhaps improve the quality of the jokes
(but that doesn't seem to ever happen).

The Rules for Nominations and some General Rules:

 * An individual wishing to submit a nomination for MVP must also provide a
short description of WHY they deserve to be MVP for the nomination to be
considered (this is a change from previous years requiring two independent
 nominations)

Past MVP [Most Valuable Poster Award] recipients are:
 -
 2012 LJ LongWing
 2011 Misi Mladoniczky
 2010 Joe D’Souza
 2009 Dr. Christopher Strauss
 2007 Rick Cook

 2006 Axton Grams
 2005 Tim Widowfield
 2004 Matt Reinfeldt
 2003 Carey Matthew Black
 2002 Chris Woyton
 2001 Gidd Calden
 2000 Jarl Groneng, Tommy Nijem
 1999 Rick Cook
 1998 Raymond Leach
 1997 Vicky Bayol
 1996 Joel D. Sender
 1995 Martin Nystrom

So, the two open categories are
 -
 *MVP - Most Valuable Poster.

This is the person you feel has contributed the most to the list in a
combination of quality and quantity. Anyone who has won the award in the
last 5 years, current BMC or BMC Remedy employees are not eligible. An
individual must be nominated by at least two independent sources.

The ARSlist Awards are not
 currently contemplating software categories.

Claire,
Usually when I see that error it's on the Overview Console. Usually
the fix is to check the pluginsvr config XML file in the pluginsvr
directory and make sure you have the short server name or fqdn
correctly set for that specific plugin entry and check ports too.
There used to be a bug where if you had ITSM installed and then
installed a patch to ARsystem, it would wipe out the entries
completely for that plugin so make sure the entry actually exists in
the first place! I think that bug was fixed though. Still worth
checking.

Re: Developer Studio Question

2013-07-08 Thread Steve Kallestad
I use the outline mode in the field list to work with fields that are
buried. Sometimes it can be a bit of a pain, admittedly.

But essentially, what I do is select the field in the form view, then look
for the field underneath it in outline view. From there I can usually
right click/add overlay and edit the properties.

I use the outline view because fields with the same parent - whether it's a
panel, a tab, or whatnot will all be grouped together. There are a few
buttons at the top of the field list that let you pick between views.

I use the outline mode in the field list to work with fields that are
buried. Sometimes it can be a bit of a pain, admittedly.

But essentially, what I do is select the field in the form view, then look
for the field underneath it in outline view. From there I can usually right
click/add overlay and edit the properties.

I use the outline view because fields with the same parent - whether it's a
panel, a tab, or whatnot will all be grouped together. There are a few
buttons at the top of the field list that let you pick between views.

I have not yet started any work with 8.x but if its quite similar to 7.6.04
which I believe it is with the exception of a few new features, then that is
the only way to go, Yes it's a long road home, but I guess that's the only
road home if you want to leverage the use of overlays as the only other way
would be to not use overlays and do stuff in the base mode - which for many
good reasons is not the way to go. Your studio will prevent you from doing
anything to that field when in the best practice mode, to protect that
fields 'unmodified' properties.

Hello,

ARS 8.1 / SRM 8.1

I have a question on how best to do something with Dev Studio. On the
SRS:ServiceRequestConsole form, there is a panel field for the Cart Review
stuff. This panel field is on top of other fields that I want to edit. Is
there an easy way to temporarily hide that panel in Dev Studio so that I can
work with the fields underneath it? I know I can add the cart panel to the
view overlay, push the panel to the back layer, change the fields I want,
then bring the cart panel back or remove it from the overlay. That seems
really cumbersome. Is there a better way?

Thanks,

Thad
