The big news from BMC is that the next BMC "User Event" will be held the week

Details, such as the scope and focus of the meeting, are still in the planning

We probably should defer to BMC for announcements about content, audience,

Hi Karthik,

This error comes because one or more unique indexes on form where you
creating records. The values on the entry you
are submitting or modifying duplicate the field (or fields) defined in the
unique index. Review the values for the entry to make sure that values that
must be unique are unique.

Have you recently created unique index on that form?

Re: Form Edit

2013-10-02 Thread Lucero, Michelle
Hi,

Even truly custom forms should've been created in "Best Practice Customization"
mode. If the custom forms were created in Base Mode or an earlier version,
there is a Dev Studio plug-in that allows conversion of existing objects into
custom objects. The Developer Studio online help AND last week's webinar on
"Overlays and Customizations" includes a treasure trove of information on
overlays and development modes.

The text below is quoted directly from Developer Studio 8.1.0 Help ---

" WARNING BMC strongly recommends that you do not create or modify objects in
Base Development mode. If you do, your changes might be lost when your AR
System applications and servers are upgraded. The only exception to this
recommendation is that you must use Base Development mode to reverse
non-permitted modifications made to origin objects.
*   "Best Practice Customization (Default)
BMC recommends that you use this mode for developing and managing
your applications.
*   Base Development
This mode should be used only by BMC application developers
"
Hope this also helps.

Not if it's a truly custom form that was created in Base Mode. If it is an OOB

Is that needed? I don't have access to the confi tool since our Remedy Server

What do you think?

Is it always best to flush cache after editing a form or not?

Hi Gordon,

I wish you were here too, I *really* need the defense this year. I injured my

Further to what Doug said, and obviously everything is preliminary, I know
there are already discussions both within BMC and the attendees here amongst
themselves, about how to keep the atmosphere of RUG alive in a BMC wide
customer event. They have recognized that the conference in Vancouver in 2007
was less than ideal and do want to avoid that. So far we have avoided chanting

BMC Customer Support

2013-10-02 Thread Kathy Morris
Hi,

Does anyone know who we can contact on a Sr. Management level at BMC
regarding technical support?

We are not happy at all with the level of support we are receiving.

If you like, you contact me directly for any recommendations.

Re: Moving from Oracle to SQL

2013-10-02 Thread Rick Cook
You have GOT to be kidding, Kiran. I would rather pull my own fingernails
out than use Migrator to move 1 TB of data. That utility (I won't glorify
it by calling it an application) is an antique in need of a long-overdue
re-architecture. It is reliable enough for small jobs, but I have learned
that I can't trust it to move larger chunks of anything. And on top of
that, it would take forever, and easily take up more local RAM than any box
is likely to have available.

Roger, I'm thinking there is probably a tool provided by one or both of the
DBMS to accomplish this much more quickly and reliably than an application
tool could.

Re: Job?

2013-10-02 Thread Rick Cook
I left the public sector almost a year ago, in part because the economics
were clearly changing. Contracting as a 1099 no longer is nearly as
economically lucrative as it used to be, due to the rising cost of private
medical insurance, and the risk of lost paid hours is increasing, due to
political games like furloughs and shutdowns.

Something to think about...

You have GOT to be kidding, Kiran. I would rather pull my own fingernails out
than use Migrator to move 1 TB of data. That utility (I won't glorify it by
calling it an application) is an antique in need of a long-overdue
re-architecture. It is reliable enough for small jobs, but I have learned that
I can't trust it to move larger chunks of anything. And on top of that, it
would take forever, and easily take up more local RAM than any box is likely to
have available.
Roger, I'm thinking there is probably a tool provided by one or both of the
DBMS to accomplish this much more quickly and reliably than an application tool
could.

Roger,

We made this type of move here at JPL, actually merging one server that was on
MS SQL with another server using an Oracle back end. We have about 1/4 of the
data you have, but we used a combination of RRRChive and the Migrator tool. We
used Migrator to move forms and workflow, which took about a week using a
phased approach. Then we created an RRRChive job and ran it over a weekend.
After that, we synched nightly using the RRRChive job until the cutover to
production. This method worked fine for us.

Maybe they've morphed into a gov agency and are furloughed! #shutdown
Kidding... You should really follow escalating both through sales and support
managers.
If the issue is urgent, you can always call and raise the priority of your
incident. If it is critical, BMC usually sends some alerts out and the
turnaround time for first contact is usually 1 hour.

Claire et al,

Sorry, I should have mentioned this sooner. The truth is that I have
actually been in fascinating breakout sessions since this morning, and
this is the first time I have slowed down a little! Let me put on my
"reporter" hat.

The big news from BMC is that the next BMC "User Event" will be held the
week of October 13, 2014, at The Swan and Dolphin resort in Orlando,
Florida. Details, such as the scope and focus of the meeting, are still in
the planning stages. The announcement was made at WWRUG13 by BMC CEO Bob
Beauchamp during the opening Keynote presentation.

We probably should defer to BMC for announcements about content, audience,
themes, subject matter and all the other creative things that happen at a
conference like this, but should you hear of anything before me, please
pass it along! I'll do the same :-)

That's the big news for a year from now, and a lot will happen just this
week alone at WWRUG. And now back to this year's conference Networking
session with ample "lubrication" starts in an hour or so

2013-10-02 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I will actually be doing a presentation on Friday 10:00 at WWRUG about a new
set of tools to sync your DEF-files between servers.

You can already download RRR|ExportDef from our web site that will export your
complete system in one go.

Then you could just import that on top the freshly installed server using
RRR|ImportDef (soon to be published).

When you are all done you can use RRR|DefDiff to check that everything is in
sync.

* RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs.

Re: Moving from Oracle to SQL

2013-10-02 Thread Bill Hoffmeier
Roger,

I failed to mention a key part of our data migration strategy. The idea was to
install RRRChive on multiple machines with each having a different config file
for a specific grouping of forms. Then for the weekend run, I mentioned below,
we simply started up the jobs on each machine. I think I had 4 instances
running that weekend, which was plenty for us.

This may have already occurred to you, but I thought I'd throw it out there for
completeness.
