Re: Restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting in Attachment Pool field
Hi, Permission groups are used to ADD, not to RESTRICT. You need to make sure that the users in question does NOT belong to a group that has write access to the field (attachment slots/pool). Is there any way to restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting files in Attachment Pool field? I have tried one solution like Removing 'Delete' from 'Display Labels in View' in Field Properties, but it restricts all the users. Please provide your suggestion on this. *Regards,* *Karthick Sundararajan* ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years
Process Designer ITSM 8.1
Hi I am try to get the Process Designer to work and failing miserably. I followed the instructions to load it on the app server but when I try and run the client in the web I get a stack trace. I can see the Abydos files are on the mid tier so the install must have worked. However the install intructiuons tell you to create a new user. This I did and put them in the process designer group. Do I need to run the install of Process Designer as this user ? ( I ask because you need to be an Admin to run the install and no where does it tell you to put this user in the admin group) The less admins the better in my book. Thanks for any help or direction. Re: Process Designer ITSM 8.1
Hi John, With the user, no you do not need to run the installer as this user - the installer must be run as an ARS Administrator. The User is required for the ARID plugin that is installed and used by Process Designer so it requires the correct ITSM permissions to be able to access the forms, etc. Have you applied the necessary hotfix to the Mid-Tier as required by Process Designer - this is required with the latest version dependent on you ARS/MT version installed? You also need to restart the Mid-Tier completely after the installation to get it to pick up all the necessary changes. You might also want to flush your Mid-Tier plugin cache. You can also run the standalone Client from the local system install (which is better as I BMC have never really explained how to get past the errors when launching from the Mid-Tier) I posted a Blog post on BMC Communities on some of the things to look out for when using Process Designer - unfortunately it worked well when it was a standalone product but BMC have yet to get it fully integrated as most users would expect it to be, so there are lots of little things to note when implementing. _ Kind Regards, Carl Wilson http://www.missingpiecessoftware.com/ From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of John Peters Sent: 16 July 2014 08:25 To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Process Designer ITSM 8.1 ** Hi I am try to get the Process Designer to work and failing miserably. Re: Process Designer ITSM 8.1
Hi, PD will work on 8.1 or 8.0 with no issue, you just require the Mid-Tier Hotfix if using the latest PD version 8.3.04 - this does not require you to update the whole ARS/ITSM system. Re: Maxed out List and Fast threads query
This is more of an art than a science, but there's certain science-y parts about it. In the Remedy Admin console, go to the Server Admin page, and add up your total threads under the Max column for fast threads. Repeat for list. Keep these numbers handy. Also, it's worth noting that your minimum numbers should be low - most people have it at 2, but some larger installations go higher. My large implementation I am working on is set to 8 for min, 20 for max for fast threads. We have LOTS of server power though. First, to tell if you have ever maxed out, run our AR Log Analyzer for the time period you have logs for. I prefer to use the example #5 for arwklga command, formatting everthing in HTML. Let's assume you did that. When you open the index.html file, go to the Thread Statistics. Now, count up the # of threads under Fast and repeat for List. These are the threads actually being used by the server. If the number matches your max from your Server Admin, you have maxed out at some time in the log period for that thread type. If it is lower, you did not. That's the answer to your first question. Now, the next obvious question is When do I care if I did max out?. You care that you maxed out when your minimum idle times are very, very low - like under 0.01 seconds and you have maxed out AND your average idle time is very, very low (under 1-2 seconds). At this point you are probably going to be seeing system problems, lockups, annoyed customers, etc. Keep in mind those are my benchmarks based off of the systems I have worked on. I've definitely seen exceptions. When do you want to raise the max threads? Well, not often. If you are maxing out your thread resources you probably need to investigate why, looking at the longest running SQL queries. 9 times out of 10 there's optimization you can do there which will GREATLY clean up your thread statistics. Case in point: Recently one server group was having problems and locking up occasionally. I did some analysis and found that a field on the HPD:Help Desk form was doing a QBE query of %LIKE% (leading and trailing) when really it just needed to be an exact query. Making this change caused a backlog of 55+ second queries to go down to well under one second. Then we went from maxed out threads to much more idle threads. I could have added threads but that would have resulted in more server resources being used, generally known as Crashing the server faster. Also, when you add threads you need to know the max number of connections to the database that are allowed. One of ours is 800. Sounds like a lot, right? Now imagine a server group with 10 AR Servers. That's 80 connections each - which isn't all that many when you consider we have 16 list threads, 20 fast threads, 12 private threads, plus all of the other standard ones. It adds up in a hurry. Re: Restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting in Attachment Pool field
Permissions are almost always the answer whenever the question is restrict/allow users to do So first, set up permissions on the attachment fields themselves to have permission for a group that everyone is in to have read access -- but not write access. Have another group that has write access to the attachment fields. Note that everyone should have access to the attachment pool if they have read access at least to the attachment fields. Now, give all users the read group (you probably use a group they are already in for this) and give the users you want to have write access to the attachment fields the second group. This strategy protects change from the screen AND from API programs AND from any other access method the user may try. If you just play with buttons or hiding/showing on the screen, you can prevent them from doing the operation on the screen, but it does not protect access by the API or by email or by any other means. Re: Drag drop attachments not working in ARS 7.1 WUT
Well installing the 7.5 client and then the 7.6.04 client didn't help so I uninstalled and installed my old 7.1 client into my own directory under C:\Users\ but still haven't resolved the problem. At this point I am just giving up on this and will have to be satisfied with doing a right-click to add attachments. Hopefully we will get the plan to upgrade to 8.1 going soon so I don't have to worry about this. I did also test drag drop into a browser using Gmail as someone suggested on the ARSList and that works fine. I'm convinced it's some sort of permissions problem in writing temp files but can't figure out the workaround. -Rick -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Rick Westbrock Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 12:21 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Drag drop attachments not working in ARS 7.1 WUT Good point Fred, I hadn't thought of using a newer version even though I know they are always backwards compatible. The most common usage of this is dragging a message from Outlook to the desktop to create an MSG file, then dragging that onto an attachment pool. I am able to do this from another machine so I first tried running the WUT on my laptop as administrator but that didn’t help. The cursor does change to have the “+” icon but when I drop the file doesn’t fall into the pool (so to speak). This appears to be a machine-specific problem as I can drag drop from a Windows server but not on my Win7 64-bit laptop. I am thinking that it is probably an OS-level permissions issue or something like that but haven’t been able to figure it out yet. I have already hit the BMC KB and couldn't find anything about it. Company Name change in ITSM 7.6.04...
Has anyone attempted this successfully? If so do you have a whole list of places where this name might be needed to be changed? I have noticed that the design of the ITSM application is not very consistent about where it uses the Request ID (Entry ID or Field 1) or instanceID or some GUID to relate such data and where it uses something like Company Name itself to relate data. For e.g. in the SIT:Site Company Association table, it looks like the Company Name is used in the relationship, while in some other places either the Company Entry ID or the instanceId is used. This could mean that a name change could possibly break a few data relationships, if the name change doesn't propagate to all the forms that use the name in the relationship.. Does anyone have a complete list of forms where this relationship might be broken in the event one needs to change the Company Name? I'm suspecting there is no OTB workflow, which would propagate this change to all forms that might need to reflect this change. A simple SQL search show 737 forms that have data fields that Company in the field name where the field is a data field. SQL select count(*) from aradmin.arschema where schemaid in (select schemaid from aradmin.field where fieldname = 'Company' and fieldtype = 1) order by name; 458 SQL SQL select count(*) from aradmin.arschema where schemaid in (select schemaid from aradmin.field where fieldname like '%Company%' and fieldtype = 1) order by name; 737 Regards Joe PS: Does ITSM 8.x handle name change of a company better than 7.6.04?? ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years

I second on that Joe. The only way to successfully update Company or Site info in ITSM 7.6.04 is with the Data Management tool which has the Data Wizard mentioned by Mr. Miller. It will modify whatever company names you want to change in all the ITSM forms and the Atrium CMDB where appropriate with one action. It takes a while, but it gets it done. Good luck with that! Re: ARERR 44856 - You do not have the permission to move to the status of Scheduled for Approval
This is usually a permission issue as indicated by the error. If the user does not have the Infrastructure Change Manager functional role, they are not allowed to move the change into Scheduled for Approval. Usually, you just have the person in their group that does have that functional role schedule the approval. A regular Change User is not allowed to do it OOTB for versions 7.5 nor 7.6.04. That's an 8.0 Wizard isn't it? Is something like that available for 7.6.04? Sure if the documentation of that Wizard, speaks of all the forms it changes, we might be able to use that information to create something for 7.6.04 - assuming that those forms exist on 7.6.04 too, else we may have to rely on SQL to find all forms that have the Company name set to a field and then change it from behind API layer. Re: Company Name change in ITSM 7.6.04...
Yeah I would prefer it does a Direct SQL.. I had done the exact same thing years ago on what used to be the CRM system from Viadyne and in fact had built a customer a stored procedure in SQL that ran from a console like form in Remedy for changing a Company Name. I do not recall if that design involved a group creation when a company was created but if it did, I might have run process arsignal to reset the group cache soon after it modified the Group form's underlying data. Re: Restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting in Attachment Pool field
--- Thanks Gregory, Doug, Misi.. Let me try and let you know output. Thanks once again for your Answers and Suggestion. Re: Restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting in Attachment Pool field
Attachment pools as well as their associated attachment fields (that can contain future attached files) have permissions just like any other field type. You can give view or change permissions to any group. The default I believe is Public/Change but you can change that to whatever you want and assign the group that you want to be limited with just View permissions. No additional workflow is necessary. Good luck!
