It looks like "Delete" with no "overlay" label.

It's really scary when I delete an overlay using this, because I'm always
scared that I'm going to be deleting the form. But if it's overlaid, then you
will only be deleting the overlay of the form.

How do I remove all view and permission overlays from a form? I'm in

remove permissions, but the view overlay appears to be permanent???

I am glad to see I am not alone in thinking there should be difference

that version) or 7.6.04 beta; before this features was GA but it went
forward as is.

Re: Question on Languages and ITSM 8.1

2015-04-23 Thread Mueller, Doug
Scott,

The AR System environment translates the DISPLAY language only. It does not do
anything with the data language. Whatever is entered as DATA will be as
entered and will not be converted or translated.

So, since the categorization fields are CHARACTER fields, the data in them will
not be translated. If you wanted to change the data, you could do it through
workflow because there is a matching value, but it would be a custom addition.

If the field was a selection field, the value stored is the numeric
representation so the word shown would change between languages.
If the field is a numeric field, that is stored in an internal format so it
would change formatting based on the locale/preference.
If the field were a date or time field, that is stored in an internal format so
it would change formatting based on the locale/preference.

But, character fields…. We simply cannot automatically try and convert random
text.

We do have some customers who are using automated language translation software
to translate text into parallel fields for key fields. But, that is not a
standard feature of the product at this time.

I hope this helps,

Doug Mueller

Not sure if the below made it to the list so I am posting it again.

I was wondering if anyone here can shed some light on how multi-languages are
handled in ITSM 8.1. For example:

If I have a help desk in Spain and I have already upload their prod an op-cats
in Spanish. Then when Spain transfers a ticket to the the USA help desk, which
has it's prod and op-cats uploaded in English. How will the prod and op-cats
appear in the USA system if it originated in Spain? Oh forgot to mention it's
all 1 single system with Spain and the USA both being separate tenants.

workflow launched from the Mid Tier client suddenly case sensitive?

2015-04-23 Thread pascale . sterrett
Hello all,

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

We have an application that for business reasons need to validate the extension
of attachments. We cannot do it at the server level because we have multiple
applications running on the same server, each with different attachment
validation needs. For this particular application, we also had to do the
validation on an active link because the business wanted a specific error
message that exceeded the limitation of the message text field.

The Active link is a simple one:
run if qualification looks like 'attachment' != null AND NOT('attachment' like
%.jpg)
Set attachment to null
open a dialog window with the error message (simple enough)
This workflow has been in place for over 6 months without any issues on both
Mid Tier and thick client.

Now this is the issue:
This is still working fine on the thick client. The user are still able to
attach any picture being a jpg or JPG
But I just learn this morning that it is no longer working (since past several
days/weeks it seems) on the Mid Tier. It appears that the Mid Tier is now case
sensitive? I can attach a jpg but it pop up the error message on a JPG

I searched the old tickets on that application and I can in fact find tickets
created from the Mid Tier with the upper case extension since that workflow was
implemented. So it looks like it was working fine until recently. And I tested
it today, and the users are correct, I am getting the error now.

We have made no changes to the Mid Tier itself or that application in
Production. The only potential change I am aware of is a patch of the AIX OS
itself on the HTTP servers. But I am told that it is impossible that it would
affect this.

Any ideas?

Hi Pascale,
Just a thought, have you tried flushing the mid-tier cache. I've seen many
strange things fixed by flushing the cache.

Subject: workflow launched from the Mid Tier client suddenly case sensitive?

Any ideas?

Re: workflow launched from the Mid Tier client suddenly case sensitive?

2015-04-23 Thread Mueller, Doug
Pascale,

OK, some history...

Originally, ALL workflow comparisons were case sensitive.

Probably 10 years ago, logic was added to the server to check the case of the
DB and filters were updated to do case-sensitive or case-insensitive
comparisons to match the DB so that whether it was a filter workflow test or a
DB test, the case sensitivity was consistent.

A few years after that, the thick client added the same logic to bring active
links in line with matching the DB.

Unfortunately, when the web client came along, it did not pick up this
requirement so all active links were case sensitive.

However, that was noted and is supposed to have been fixed so that again, the
mid-tier matches the case sensitivity of the database. This should be correct
in the latest 7.6.04 patch line and in 8.1. This is a mid-tier issue so the
server version is not important.

Now, to address your question, the only change for the mid-tier was to go from
doing case sensitive comparisons to matching the case of the DB configuration
for the AR System. It is not something that would have suddenly changed
(unless the configuration of the case sensitivity of the AR System was suddenly
changed).

So, First, I would check to see what the case sensitivity of the AR System
server is. There is a server info setting that returns that information. It
may be present on the Server Information form. If it is set to case sensitive,
then the mid-tier will be case sensitive. If case insensitive and you are
seeing case sensitive searches in the mid tier, that is not expected and you
should contact support.

A workaround of course is to test the different permutations of capitalization
to be complete. So instead of

'attachment' != null AND NOT('attachment' like %.jpg)

Try something like

'attachment' != null AND NOT(('attachment' like %.jpg) OR ('attachment' like
"%.JPG") OR ('attachment like "%.Jpg") OR ()...)

You should only need this if you have a case SENSITIVE database and you want to
do the test in a case INSENSITIVE way. Now, if you were using SQL Server, you
could also code it likeNOT ('attachment' like %.[jJ][pP][gG]) to simplify
things. But, that is only for SQL Server or Sybase. Oracle does not support
the [] construct (actually we have added recently support for just [%] or [_]
to allow protection of wildcards by processing it ourselves, but it still is
not a wide open use for situations like this so again, this more controlled
syntax is SQL Server and Sybase only, other databases need the OR strategy.

Now, in 8.1sp1, functionality was added for exactly the type of file extension
and even content checking you are doing here. It may be an all or nothing type
check and you say you want different checks at different places so you still
may need to go custom there, but maybe there are some generic tests too.

It is documented here

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars81/Setting+security+restrictions+on+file+uploads

I just wanted to call it out in case you were not aware of the capability that
has been added and is available in current releases.

I hope this has been useful,

Doug Mueller

Thank you very much Doug.

The Database nor the server are set to case sensitive. If that was the case,
wouldn't we have the issue on both clients, thick and web being that it is a
server setup? This is only an issue on the Mid Tier.
I did contact support, just waiting on their reply :)

My main concern is that I do not have only one type of attachment to validate
like the jpg but close to 20 different types of attachment. So you can
imagine how horrible that run if qualification will turn out to be. But being
on a SQL DB I think your option of the usage of the [] may be our only solution
at this point if we can't find why this workflow that was working fine a few
weeks ago suddenly is giving us problems.

If I only see the subject you want to Remove all Overlays from your form?
right.

Just simply go to best customization mode and delete the form. It will
remove all the overlays associated with that form.
