Character field data base name is showing as Database ID

2015-10-08 Thread Vidyasagar Kommu
Hi All,

We have created a new regular form in this form we have the character
fields are present when we are moving the form .def file to one server
to another server one of the character field data base name is coming
as data base id automatically .
Please find the below environment details :
Server Version: 5.01.02 Patch 1494
Operating System : HP-UX B.11.31
Data Base:Oracle 9.2.0.8.0-64bit

Can you please guide me why it is taking as data baseid instead of
data base name

I assume you are just exporting the def from one server using Admin tool
and importing to the other server? Are your Server and Admin tools
matching versions?

(probably a dumb) SmartIT question

2015-10-08 Thread William Rentfrow
Hi listers -

I am just getting started in SmartIT. We just installed the most recent
version (I can check that, but I don't think it's really relevant).

We have a bunch of custom workflow on HPD:Help Desk - things like "enter an
account code" and assuming the code is valid it displays the office/site
information for a particular account. In short, there's a bunch of workflow
that fires on gain/lose focus type events.

Several different places I checked all said "rewrite your custom code as
service filter actions". However, that won't work. As far as I can tell
there's no way to invoke a filter service action to do a set fields because
there's no way to have an active link fire on gain/lose focus.

So is it impossible to do this in Smart IT?

We are doing the same evaluation and reaching the same conclusions. We
have enough custom active links, especially on the change request side that
SmartIT doesn't seem to have a benefit. Of course, we're open to being

Thanks for putting the question to the list.

Re: (probably a dumb) SmartIT question

2015-10-08 Thread Pierson, Shawn
You can’t really build workflow in any meaningful way at this time in Smart IT.
You can add fields (within certain limits) and on 1.2 you can add custom
actions, such as one to launch the Mid-Tier while passing the Incident Number
to launch that same Incident over there. That’s about it though.

Thanks,

There is a difference about what the product will allow vs. not allow and what

There is no restriction in the product. The product in RoD is identical to the

Now, if you are running the environment On Demand and want to add new logic

issuing direct SQL commands that are outside the AR System control, there are
issues about data security and integrity and about what processes are doing.
On Premise, you are responsible for your own environment and processing so you
can take responsibility for the issues here. The On Demand team however has to
be very conservative about what they are allowing a customer to put into an
environment that they are responsible for operating.

So, in general, the operations of Direct SQL and Run Process are not allowed
within a RoD environment. If there is a requirement for these operations, you
have to have discussions with the RoD team about what is possible or not within
the environment.

In the end, not a product or feature issue, but an operational issue/discussion.

the same. The only difference feature wise was these two and these two were
removed for security reasons or something like that so that you could not
execute scripts directly on the DB or programs directly on the server. I was
also told that that was a basic architecture of most cloud solutions during

Re: RoD limitations...

2015-10-08 Thread Joe D'Souza
Thank you Doug for clarifying this limitation.

The last time I heard about it, I interpreted it as it was restricted
completely from the product - did not know that there was a scope to discuss
this with the On Demand team.

So basically it does look like there is no difference on any features at all
- just a difference in operation policies.

Thanks again.

Joe and LJ,

There is a difference about what the product will allow vs. not allow and
what the operation environment policy allows or not.

There is no restriction in the product. The product in RoD is identical to
the product that is available On Premise. Both the features you mention Joe
are fully supported - and used by the applications - both On Premise and On
Demand.

Now, if you are running the environment On Demand and want to add new logic
that uses these features, there are restrictions. Remember, the BMC team is
responsible for running the environment and making sure it is up and running
and safe. If you do a run process that is running some external process or
issuing direct SQL commands that are outside the AR System control, there
are issues about data security and integrity and about what processes are

Re: Character field data base name is showing as Database ID

2015-10-08 Thread Joe D'Souza
Sagar,

My first thoughts would be to query the meta-data to see if that same
database name does exist as a record for that schema ID as a result of some
legacy work done on the server you are importing the .def to. I'm assuming
there must be some sort of logic in the AR System that if a duplicate record
exist with the same database name as you describe, to handle that duplicate
by using its database ID as the name to prevent an absolute error resulting
in an import error.

William,

We are just starting to do tests with SmartIT/MyIT along with Remedy 9 SP1. I
just removed our SmartIT/MyIT environment while we do an upgrade to 9 SP1,
because some of the functionality of the latest version only functions with 9.
I didn’t get to play with it much but in the customization section I recall
seeing what appeared to be a “build workflow” that seemed to only apply to
SmartIT/MyIT and was separate from Filters.

Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but once our system is upgraded and I reinstall
our SmartIT/MyIT server I can poke around and let you know.

William,
So...I'll state at first that I'm 0% familiar with SmartIT, and you know it
better than me at this moment.but, with that said.

It's my understanding that SmartIT isn't, and isn't planned to be a 'Mid-Tier'
type client, meaning that I don't believe that SmartIT fires Active Links, and
the only workflow that you can fire on a form is Filtersso...no, I don't
think you can do the type of client side work you did with Mid-Tier through
that new Clientany sort of 'validations' you need done should be done
through Filters.

Maybe that Custom Action is what I’m thinking of.

You can’t really build workflow in any meaningful way at this time in Smart IT.
You can add fields (within certain limits) and on 1.2 you can add custom
actions, such as one to launch the Mid-Tier while passing the Incident Number
to launch that same Incident over there. That’s about it though.

LJ -

Thanks for the reply. I get the filter validation but there's so much
functionality lost that I'm now starting to wonder what the point of Smart IT
actually IS :) It's probably one of those forest/trees things and I need to
get into it a bit more.

William,
So...I'll state at first that I'm 0% familiar with SmartIT, and you know it
better than me at this moment.but, with that said.
