Position sought in Northeast or thereabouts
Please forgive the utilization of the list, but I'm actively seeking, in a very short timeframe, a position in the northeast or thereabouts or Kentucky, in Remedy administration and/or development. Thank you for your understanding David Drake, Remedy Administrator/Developer 6717 NW Eastside Dr Kansas City, MO 64151 Phone 816-885-5838 E-mail dave.dr...@cerner.com David Drake Objective To obtain a permanent position with an organization in Networking/PC Management, Helpdesk Management and/or Remedy (Action Request System) Development/Administration. Functional summary I have experience with PC management and troubleshooting in a Microsoft/Novell/NT/AS-400 environment. I have further experience with Application Development/Helpdesk and Asset Management, data mining/reporting. I have worked with all manner of hardware and software ranging from Office suites to Cisco router maintenance to application development/maintenance. I have supervised the activities of several individuals and users in a mid-size company and am looking to expand on this. I've managed the first two levels of a large help desk successfully as well as saw to their technical needs in relation to HelpDesk queries, consulting, and managing. To that end, I've also managed and maintained the servers and applications needed, running cSupport (Lotus Notes based HelpDesk software) in an NT environment and later, Remedy (Action Request System) Helpdesk, Asset Management and Knowledge Management. My most recent experience has been in the areas of Remedy application development and administration. I have 9 years of experience in the Remedy Administration/Development field, versions 4.5 thru 7.5, all areas and all operating systems. Employment 2007 - Present Cerner Corporation Kansas City, Missouri Technical Support Analyst/Remedy Developer/Remedy Administrator Duties primarily consisted of user/group/application administration within the Remedy (BMC) application. Development efforts were naturally included, customizing/troubleshooting the application to user's specific needs. Further maintained the underlying hardware/software for the platform to maintain uninterrupted uptime. Relating to the application, this included patch management and upgrades, troubleshooting, and licensing management. The overall application resides within a SQL 2K5 structure, so fairly extensive knowledge was required of that platform as well. Versions used here are 7.0 - 7.5 (ARS, ITSM, etc) Managed specific user requests, for both enhancements and concerns, through a separate Incident Management system. 2000 - 2007 Williams Lea at Shook, Hardy BaconKansas City, Missouri HelpDesk Level 1 Lead/Level 2 Floater/Remedy Administrator/Remedy Developer Started out as a HelpDesk Level 1 Lead, supervising the day to day operations of the Level 1 (telephone support) HelpDesk. Supervised 9 people in that regard, with scheduling, product development and resource creation/utilization. HelpDesk was new to this Firm and all procedures needed to be mapped out. Developed many of the tools necessary to get the service off the ground and developed the reports detailing progress of the Level 1 staff. Maintained the primary HelpDesk interface, Lotus based cSupport, on an NT box with full admin responsibilities (user/application maintenance, backups, disaster recovery, etc.) Moved laterally to a Level 2 Floater position directly beneath the Operations Supervisor for Level 2 (Deskside Support). In this capacity, I continued with server duties as listed above and merged two roles. Acted as an ultimate resource for user/staff issues, jack of all trades and acted as Project Manager for any projects resulting from user or management requests/feedback. Moved laterally to a Remedy Development/Administration position that opened up when this system was introduced to the company and the firm. The Action Request System, Helpdesk 5.0 and Asset Management products were integrated for use by 120 users supporting a user population of 2500. Installed the servers, implemented the software, customized the software to this environment and trained the users on its use. After implementation, continued with development and administration duties ranging from normal day-to-day admin tasks to completely new application development to major customizations to fit the legal environment. Also produced and maintained reports from the system (using Crystal 9) to include Helpdesk and Asset Management data. 1998 - 1999 Wilfarm LLC Gladstone, Missouri Technical Analyst: Wide array of duties to include building, maintaining, and troubleshooting over 400 PCs with associated peripherals (scanners, printers, etc.). Worked in a NetWare/AS400 environment. Performed server maintenance (backups, patches, upgrades, etc.). Maintained connectivity of users
Page Holder fields in Mid-Tier
Hi all, I've got a page holder field that has two rows of tabs at the top. In the 32bit client it shows up correctly with both rows, however, in mid-tier the top row is not visible and there's no scroll bar that would allow one to get to it. Where should I look to fix this so that either both rows are visible or that there's a scroll bar to allow navigation? Thanks! It should help, although some of it may not be specific enough since I just put it together for myself. Thanks, Shawn Pierson 1. Open the form SYS:Notification Messages in the Windows User Tool. 2. Search for the message that you want to modify. 3. Add the text to the Email Message Body that you would like to change, and use the menu on the field to see if the field you want to add already exists in the mappings. If it does, skip to step 6. If not, continue to step 13. 4. Open up the Windows Admin Tool. 5. Open the filter that starts with NTE:SHR:TranslateNotificationMessage for the module you want to add the column for. 6. Go to the If Action, and add a New Action of Set Fields. 7. On the new Set Fields, leave the server name and Read Value for Field From as CURRENT TRANSACTION. 8. On the Fields portion, select z1D Translation Text as the Name, with a value of REPLACE($z1D Translation Text$, #FieldNameReplaced#, $ActualFieldName$). 9. Press the Modify Action button, then Save the filter. 10. In the Windows User Tool, open SYS:Form Field Selection to create a new record. 11. Enter the following values for the fields on the form: Selection Type = Notification Message Selection, Module Name = whatever module the field exists in, Form Name = the actual name of the form you pull the field from, Select Fields From+ = this should match the previously selected form name, Menu Label 1 = the field you are trying to include in the message, Menu Value 1 = the name of the field, Menu Value 2 = the text to be translated, e.g. #Change Timing#, Menu Order 1 = some integer, Status = Enabled. 12. Save the previous record, and go back to the SYS:Notification Messages form. 13. Type in the translated variable name, e.g. #Change Timing# in the Email Message Body field where you want the value from the form to show up. 14. Save the record, and any new emails should include that field. Re: Mid-tier links in EMail notifications
This is accomplished through setting the Server Information in the Administrator client 1. Default web path: http://remedywebvip/arsys - A vip that ties our web servers together 2. Server alias: remedyappvip - We're in a hardware load balanced environment (vip), server group of 2 Note: In order for this to not break the server grouping, it is necessary to place a line in the ar.cfg for Server-Connect-Name - remedyappserver.domain.com. Must also delete the multilicense files on the servers thus modified prior to restarting them. This change will not take effect until the arservice is restarted. Re: My Entitled Products problem
We had a similar issue recently, got this back from support. Hope it helps BMC Software has implemented several changes to the Electronic Product Distribution (EPD). From now, your will be entitled to download from the EPD only the product related to your support profile. In order to update your support profile please follow the below instructions: www.bmc.com Log-in into your profile with your usual User ID and password Click on My Support Profile Click on Manage Support ID's, Go to the Support Contract Management Panel, enter the Support ID and password that you want to add and click add. We only have 1 support id with ARS. I added our other id's, but they deal with other products (TD, SIM, BEM). Quoting Pierson, Shawn shawn.pier...@sug.com: I see all three versions of everything logged in on mine. I think what David is pointing at is that in some cases there are multiple support ids, and that if you don't have the right one that your support contract is tied to, you may not be able to download them. That still doesn't explain why you can see ARS 7.1, but I've seen situations like that before. Once BMC created a separate support id for us to download a demo of something, and my coworker at the time made that his primary support id on his profile. That caused some issues, and it could be similar to what you are running into. I'm not saying this is the case, but you may want to double check your support ids at least to eliminate that as a factor. Just kind of dumbfounded by the response I got when I reported the problem. The spaceman comment was me being amused that a BMC support person would tell me that ARS 7.0.01 does not exist. Maybe it was removed from EPD and it is now being stored in Area 51 :) Dylan Quoting Easter, David david_eas...@bmc.com: Just FYI, my understanding is that your Entitled Products list is linked to those products that are covered under your support contract - hence the need to manage your support IDs in EPD. Some general Change Management questions
We just implemented the Change Management module and I have a few other questions that I'm hoping you may know the answer to. Both questions are actually relating to approvals of change requests. 1. How can you set up an approval rule to allow a specific number of approvers (say you have 5 approvers listed but only need 2 or 3 to approve in order to consider the request approved). We received a document on the approval server that mentions how to set up a Signature Accumulator rule but the details in the guide didn't provide enough information. 2. When we have approval mapping rules set up to assign multiple approvers simultaneously only the 1st approver is sent an email notification with a URL to the mid-tier approval form. The other approvers are not notified. Is this a configuration problem? Is there a way to change this without creating a custom filter or escalation? Thanks! Opinion needed - Service hangs on db disconnect
Just looking for an opinion or two, anecdotes...etc...etc We've got a high availability setup with two SQL clusters. If one fails, the other takes over. This is usually just a second or two so the Remedy application servers rarely even hiccup when this occurs. There have been occasions though where the failover takes a couple minutes and/or the database just isn't available for a couple of minutes. Instead of reconnecting in the background, in those instances, the app actually locks and the app servers need to be bounced. Has anyone noticed this or something similar? If so, what is your opinion? Sorry this is a bit vague...I've just seen this behavior a few times and the reaction is just usually a bounce. Like to have something more concrete, or at least consensual, to pass along to users as to why... Anything's appreciated. Thanks! Telecom circuits in CMDB

OT - Wednesday humour
Couldn't wait for Friday :-) If you can read this whole story without laughing, then there's no hope for you. I was crying by the end. This is an actual account as relayed to paramedics at a chili cook-off in Texas . Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better. For those of you who have lived in Texas , you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio City Park . Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chili taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield , IL . Frank: 'Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table, asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge 3.' Here are the scorecard notes from the event: CHILI # 1 - MIKE'S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.. Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild. Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy. CHILI # 2 - AUSTIN'S AFTERBURNER CHILI Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang. Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously. Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face. CHILI # 3 - FRED'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick. Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers. Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting sh*t-faced from all of the beer. CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing. Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.. Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman is starting to look HOT ... just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac? CHILI # 5 - LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive. Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement. Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw them.. CHILI # 6 - VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers. Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, garlic. Superb. Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I'm worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone. CHILI # 7 - SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers. Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef lite rally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about judge number 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably. Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least

Administrator privileges corruption error, I think
We patched our ARS 7.0.1 p007 (ITSM 7.0.1 p003) servers to ITSM 7.0.3 p007 last night. No errors were reported during the patch install (or none worthwhile). However, after patching, opening the Admin tool displays an error indicating that no active link guides can be loaded, and indeed are not displayed. We also, as admins with the Administrator group privilege, cannot open the default Home Page (cannot generate application list error (ARERR 1900). In the arerror log I get a lot of errors indicating a form is not present and that form is evidently the new AST:AssetAdvancedSearch form (with related workflow elements) That also cannot be displayed in the Admin tool. However, when I search for these elements using ARUtilities, they are indeed there...as are the active link guides. I suspect these issues may be related to the Administrator group and its priviliges, but that's only supposition based on a search through arslist and nabble forums. In the above mentioned error with the User tool, no other users, except those with the Administrator privilege, experience the error with the application list. Has anyone else seen anything similar? Mid-Tier 7.1
Hi all Quick question We're currently on ARS 7.0.1 p002 (SQL2K be) and it'll be a bit before we upgrade that to 7.1. This can be seen in the compatibility matrix at: http://www.bmc.com/support/bmcremedycomp/index.htm Moving to Mid-Tier 7.1 will provide some performance increases, but you would not be able to use any new features of the Mid-Tier that depend on the AR System server being 7.1.00 as well (e.g. pre-fetch). Re: Friday Humor
The Irish Lent - - - An Irishman moves into a tiny hamlet in County Kerry, walks into the pub and promptly orders three beers. The bartender raises his eyebrows, but serves the man three beers, which he drinks quietly at a table, alone. An hour later, the man has finished the three beers and orders three more. This happens yet again. The next evening the man again orders and drinks three beers at a time, several times. Soon the entire town is whispering about the Man Who Orders Three Beers. Finally, a week later, the bartender broaches the subject on behalf of the town. I don't mean to pry, but folks around here are wondering why you always order three beers? Tis odd, isn't it? the man replies. You see, I have two brothers, and one went to America , and the other to Australia . We promised each other that we would always order an extra two beers whenever we drank as a way of keeping up the family bond. The bartender and the whole town were pleased with this answer, and soon the Man Who Orders Three Beers became a local celebrity and source of pride to the hamlet, even to the extent that out-of-towners would come to watch him drink. Then, one day, the man comes in and orders only two beers. The bartender pours them with a heavy heart This continues for the rest of the evening. He orders only two beers. The word flies around town. Prayers are offered for the soul of one of the brothers. The next day, the bartender says to the man, Folks around here, me first of all, want to offer condolences to you for the death of your brother. You know-the two beers and all. The man ponders this for a moment, then replies, You'll be happy to hear that my two brothers are alive and well. It's just that I, meself, have decided to give up drinking for Lent. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Darrell Reading Sent: Friday, March 14, 2008 2:36 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: OT: Friday Humor Somebody o Place HolderInsert humor here/Place Holder Somebody out there has to have something... OT - Friday Humour
The Smartest Dog Ever As a butcher is shooing a dog from his shop, he sees $10 and a note in his mouth, reading: 10 lamb chops, please. Amazed, he takes the money, puts a bag of chops in the dog's mouth, and quickly closes the shop. He follows the dog and watches him wait for a green light, look both ways, and trot across the road to a bus stop. The dog checks the timetable and sits on the bench. When a bus arrives, he walks around to the front and looks at the number, then boards the bus. The butcher follows, dumbstruck. As the bus travels out into the suburbs, the dog takes in the scenery. After awhile he stands on his back paws to push the stop button, then the butcher follows him off. The dog runs up to a house and drops his bag on the stoop. He goes back down the path, takes a big run, and throws himself -Whap! - Against the door. He does this again and again. No answer. So he jumps on a wall, walks around the garden, beats his head against a window, jumps off, and waits at the front door. A big guy opens it and starts cursing and pummeling the dog. The butcher runs up screams at the guy: What the hell are you doing? This dog's a genius! The owner responds, Genius, no way! It's the second time this week he's forgotten his key! -- CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE This message and any included attachments are from Cerner Corporation and are intended only for the addressee. ARS defect documented - SW00282165
Opened and just received confirmation that this defect we've recently become aware of has been escalated. Thought I'd throw it out there and see what you think Whenever a relationship gets created, another entry in the list of possible relationships also gets added. This appears to only occur when the possible relationships list is sorted. No way, at this point, to determine then what your real relationships are as opposed to the extra ones erroneously created. Evidently, the Group List field on the user form is set to have 255 characters. That's fine, except that when you get someone who belong to a large number of groups, 255 characters doesn't cover it. The only way I know of to fix it is to increase the size of the Group List field on the User form. You will need the following information to request a temporary license key for trial usage or while the processing of your permanent key is performed: 1. Remember to return to the Licensing page to obtain your permanent keys when you are notified they are ready. Q: So if I want to increase the number of AR System Fixed or Floating Users on my licensed AR System server, do I need a key? A: No. You do not need a key. To increase the number of users, you will only need to go into the Administration Console and increase the number of licenses. You will then need to notify BMC or a BMC partner that you have increased the number and wish to purchase the amount to which you've increased. Q: If I upgrade AR System Server to 7.1.00, but not my ITSM application (e.g. Change Management), will I still need keys for my ITSM application? A: No. License management is done by the server - so if you upgrade your AR System server to 7.1.00, the applications will no longer require a key to be licensed. Q: So you're getting rid of licensing? A: No. We are removing the need for keys to license AR System based applications, users, and add-ons. A license is still required. Licenses will still need to be purchased and entered into the AR System Administration Console. The big difference is that a key is no longer required to enter that license. Q: Does this change any licensing restrictions? A: No. Licenses behave just as they do in AR System today. The difference is that a key is no longer required to enter that license. Q: How is license usage kept on the server? A: To gather information about license usage, each AR System server scans the system approximately every 45 minutes and writes the results to a file named LicenseReport.txt. This file contains a running log of license usage for each license type. Q: LicenseReport.txt - that's a text file? A: Yes - and it is human readable. It could also be used by developers for other purposes such as long term trending of license usage. Q: How will BMC ensure that the log file is not tampered with? A: By moving to this license key model, BMC is extending its trust in customers. We expect that this file will not be tampered with beyond expected maintenance actions - for example, backing the file up after a billing period. The file does contain an internal checksum that could be used by BMC in extreme cases of misuse. Q: How can I monitor my usage to ensure I'm not using more licenses than I can afford? A: To make sure that you are in compliance with your purchased licenses, you can periodically generate a license usage report for each of your AR System servers (including each server in a server group). The report contains the following information: - For AR System and application user floating licenses, the greatest number of licenses in use at the same time during the period covered by the report. - For AR

Hi all, Remedy support tells me there's a newer version of the arloganalyzer (arwklga) tool out there somewhere that's better to use with an ARS 7 installation.
