I also remember attending a Remedy User Conference in 2001 in Edinburgh,
Scotland (just in case there's another one out there!). I believe this was the
first (mainstream) Remedy User event in the EMEA region. I stress the
mainstream as we have had a number of UKRUG meetings over the years.

Re: importing workflow from 7.5 to 7.6.04

2012-05-10 Thread Ian Trimnell

Hi Andrew,

I came across this when I was copying workflow from out 7.5.00 system to
a Remedy onDemand set-up (running 7.6.04). I have found that I had to
add the following line to the end of each item in the def file:

   object-prop: 2\90015\2\4\90016\4\1\1\

In ALs and Filters this would be the penultimate line. In Containers
(AL Guides and Filter Guides) it would be the last line before the first
reference. There doesn't appear to be an option in the Import wizard to
say "please import these items as custom objects". I first noticed this
when I imported a form definition and had to delete the form and try
again after meddling with the def file.

Hope this helps,

David,

One way to avoid pop-ups could be as follows:

 * parse the form on submit and check if any of the required fields are
   blank
 * if so, make a hidden warning text field visible saying something
   like "please enter required data"
 * change the label colour on the fields that are required.

Would that fit the bill?

Hi Larry,

You don't say which version of the server you are running. When we
first installed 7.5, when it was released, we noticed that the user
details were being passed through to web calls (flashboards, images,
view fields, etc.) and also appearing in log files (especially the
active link log file). We raised this with BMC and it was fixed during
a patch release (I think it was there by patch 004, but am not entirely
sure).

I have check the BMC support site and it looks as though it was fixed at
patch 003 of 7.5.00.

If you are using a version of AR System server later than this then it
looks as though they have exposed the old error again.

Hope this helps in some way,

Odd problem during AR System upgrade

2010-10-14 Thread Ian Trimnell

Greetings,

I have just had fun upgrading our development server to the latest patch
level of AR System 7.5.00 (patch 007). We are on Windows 2003 Server &
MS SQL 2005, but I don't that is relevant to this.

My first attempt to upgrade failed saying that it could not install AR
System (I had chosen to upgrade all the install items including the
Client, Developer, Approval, Email, Mid Tier & Flashboards). However,
it did install the binary as when I ran the client and checked the
server configuration it reported that it was version patch 007.

I checked a few things and re-ran the installer. Again it failed.

Looking at the installation log file I managed to discover which part
failed, but not why. I decided to attempt to run the command that
whinged and studied the output. And there it told me what the actual
problem was.

I had an escalation reserved that the upgrade wanted to overwrite. I
released the escalation and the install kit ran happily.

I went back and read the README file that came with the patch and I even
read the Installation Guide (just to check things) but nowhere does it
warn you to replace any reserved forms or pieces of workflow.

Unless someone can point me to the right section of the installation
guide or the read me document then I plan to submit a request for a
documentation change.

Cheers,

Ian

I'm posting this here with the hopes that someone has a solution for

but there is one major annoyance for me that I haven't found a good
way around yet.

I like to use Working Lists. I think it's great and they give me an
opportunity to set aside logical groups of things that work together
without building it as an Application in Remedy. However, the results
list within a Working List is almost useless to a developer.

While I'm working on something and testing out different Active Links
or Filters, I would like a way to see what is Enabled and what is
Disabled. For example, if I were to go to "All Objects" and select
"Active Links", I would see these columns in the results list: Name,
Enabled, Primary Form, Order, Execute On, Shared, Modified.

If I open a Working List I only see these columns in the results
list: Name, Object Type, Modified.

How can I get the results list to look the same on Working Lists as it
does for the "All Objects" results list? I haven't found any specific
Working List options in the preferences where I can change this. Even
if it's not something I can configure through the tool, does anyone
know of any configuration file settings I could modify to get this?

Thanks,

*Shawn Pierson*

Hi Shawn,

I too like the idea of working lists, especially when I am building a
new custom application or modifying an existing one. There is hope for
you! The standard way that working lists are presented is to view items
by Form. This gives you the columns you are referring to. If, however,
you change to view by type (see little icons on the top right of the
working group window) then all the columns are displayed.

In the Developer Suite or Admin Tool (depending on your AR System

I have been working on getting our forms to work on the iPhone (which
seem to be the only mobile devices that seem to work with our internal
WiFi network) but it is a bit of an uphill challenge.

As people have previously said, some objects, like menus and
double-clicking on table rows, don't work on the iPhone. Also, getting
large fields to display with a scroll-bar is a bit hit-and-miss
(although I have been given a JavaScript workaround from BMC that
sometimes helps). For example, getting the diary to display caused me
quite a headache. My final solution was to write it out to an HTML page
and then use an open URL Perform Action AL to display it. Thanks for
the idea to get menus displayed as tables - I'll give that a try.

Buying an Aeroprise set-up is not a solution for us as with the number
of devices that we are using doesn't justify the cost. Aeroprise did
tell me once that they are working on a solution specifically for the
iPhone but were a bit sketchy on details.

I have also written CGI scripts using ARSperl, but that is not really
the way forward that I wish to take.

Hi,

I don't know which platform you are using but I found the documentation
- well, the help files - in the plugins folder within the distribution
folder. On our Windows 2003 server they are in:

C:\Program Files\BMC
Software\ARSystem\dataimporttool\plugins\com.bmc.arsys.dataimport.help_7.5.0\doc.zip

In the com.bmc.arsys.dataimport.help_7.5.0 folder are some xml files
which make up the index pages. These HTML pages are what you get if you
select Help Contents form the Help menu within BMC Remedy Data Import.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I'm a bit confused. What Preferences are
you talking about?

When I go to the properties of a table field there is tab called
"Table Labels"

There are 3 areas here:

1. Header

It contains:

* Table Not Loaded String
* Number of Entries Returned String
* Auto Refresh String
* Refresh Button

2. Body

It contains:

* Row Header / Web Drill Down Column
* Select Column Label

3. Footer

It contains

* Select All
* Deselect All
* Report Button
* Delete Button
* Read Button
* Unread Button

I have no Preferences label here... What am I missing?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Don't know which version of AR System you are using (probably pre 6.3, I
should think) but the ability to select a preferences option for table
fields should appear in the Header section of the Table Labels tab.
Looking at your list of options for Footer I should think that you are
even pre 6.0.1, which is the earliest server version we have in
operation here.

Hope this helps,

Ravishankar,

I think that the log file issue has not been resolved in any currently

The URL with user name and password is also shown when you show the
source of any view filed that contains the content of a template.

I currently have an issue open with BMC about this which has not yet
reached any satisfactory solution. BMC support are still in their
prevarication mode and haven't agreed that there is any issue to resolve

If you know any different then perhaps you can let them know.

Axton Grams

Axton,

I originally found this issue when I was debugging a bit of work flow
that I created on our custom forms. I used uidemo as an example rather
than sharing my definition files & data with BMC support.

I know from experience the sort of questions that they ask before
they even start on a problem, even when they have been supplied the
information! So if I found the problem with some work flow that
emanated from BMC then that might speed the process up a bit.

I did not copy my work flow from uidemo - rather I based it on
information obtained from the documentation and also what I gleaned from
being part of the Beta program.

There are a number of active links in uidemo that handle use the
TEMPLATE function and every time that the template is used in the WUT,
and a graphic is used in that template, then the username and password
are to be found as part of the URL. In fact, there is a View field on
the 'Hover and Tooltips' panel. When you click on a row in the 'Hover
on Table Row' table the view field is filled with the processed
template. Right click on the view field, chose 'View Source' and you
get to see the HTML. In the 'src' of the 'img' tag you will find the
username and password parts containing the security data.

Peter,

We are using LDAP authentication and this issue shows passwords where
users are authenticated against our Active Directory server as well as
those 'local' users (non-AD accounts) whose passwords are stored in
the User form.

It is rather worrying, as our Partner has pointed out to BMC, if BMC
have used these functions on their own applications (ITSM et al). We

Security issue with 7.5

2009-05-20 Thread Ian Trimnell

Greetings ARSlist.

We have come across a fairly large security issue with AR System 7.5.
If you use any of the new-style Templates which include in them graphics
and then attempt to display these on the Windows Client (WUT) with
active link logging turned on the Username and Password of the user will
be displayed in clear text in the log file.

The following is an edited version of the issue that I have open with
our BMC Partner (Fusion):

I have created a dummy account on our 7.5 patch 001 system and have
logged in with that account using the 7.5 patch 001 WUT. I then
   turned on Active Link logging.
Next I opened the uidemo form that BMC have provided as that has a
number of templates with graphics in them. I clicked on the "Hover
and Tooltips" panel and hovered the mouse over a row in the "Hover
on Table Row" table. The window that resulted had the template text
but no graphic was displayed (possibly understandable with the WUT).
   I then turned logging off.
Search through the log file for any references to the field "Format
Buffer" and you will see the full URL of any graphics file being
shown along with the FULL log-in credentials of the dummy user.

Here is any extract from the log file:

Checking uidemo: Hover and Tooltips - on row select (0)
-> Passed qualification -- perform if actions
 0: Set Fields
Format Buffer (536971496) =

  http://newcicero.open.ac.uk:/arsys/sharedresources/image/ -

srm_service_advanced.jpg?server=newcicero.open.ac.uk&username=dummy&pw -
   d=Youshouldntseethis&auth&native=1"/>
  Advanced

  Advanced services including everything from
A-Z

We are getting round this problem now by amending the workflow that
calls the template so that a graphics-free template is used for WUT users.

I am posting this here as I think that the wider AR System community
need to know. If I get any feedback from BMC I will post it here, but
going on another issue I currently have open with BMC I'm not holding my
breath for an answer in the short term.

Cheers,

Labels on Guides in Developer Studio

2009-03-04 Thread Ian Trimnell

Hi,

Just come across a little issue with Developer Studio. I have been
design some Filter Guides (to handle some incoming emails) and, during a
bit of tidying up, I wanted to remove a redundant label in one of my guides.

When I Right-Click on the label (as instructed on page 124 of the
"Workflow Objects Guide" - I only looked there to double-check that what
I was doing was actually right!) the "Remove Reference" option is not
available. This option is available if I wanted to remove a Filter from
the guide.

I have raised an issue with our Partner who will hopefully then raise it
with BMC. I have double checked the Defects database on BMC Support
Central but it appears that no-one else has come across this, yet.

What a shame, especially as I am really starting to get the hang of
using the Dev Studio after using the Admin Tool for all those years.

$OS$ (AR_KEYWORD_OS)

2008-06-12 Thread Ian Trimnell

Morning All.

Does anyone know where the return values for the $OS$ keyword come
from? I am resurrecting a bit of workflow to get users to update their
Windows User Tool version if their are using Windows Vista. I currently
collect login information and one item I collect is the value of the
$OS$ keyword. For XP users it correctly states "Windows XP". For W2K
it says "Windows 2000". For Vista, though, I get the string "Windows NT
or NT Server", which I also get for Windows 2003 Server!.

So, how can I successfully test for Vista and not pick the few stray
2003 users?

BTW the version of the User Tool I have available for users to upgrade
to is 7.0.01 (patch 007). I have also downloaded 7.1.00 (patch 003) and
get the same results from the two different OS versions.

Thanks in advance,

Ian Trimnell

Friday Humour

2008-06-06 Thread Ian Trimnell
Been meaning to post this for a few weeks now but keep missing the
deadline (Monday morning is just too late).

The following is from issue 2655 of New Scientist magazine, 07 May 2008,
page 84:

   *Programming in Croydon*

FINALLY, it is hard to keep up with all the programming languages
around these days, and if you're not careful you can easily get
wrong-footed when you believe you're being asked about them.

Michael Francis tells us of an interviewee applying for a position
as a software developer with a company that has its head office in
Cambridge, UK, and a development office in the south London borough
of Croydon. During his interview in Cambridge the programmer was
asked how he would feel about programming in Croydon.

"I'm a little rusty on the more recent languages but I'll soon pick
   it up," was his reply.

Despite this, Francis says he got the job.

Have a good weekend (only 40-odd minutes left here in the UK)

The alias you are looking for is going to be stored with the View, not
the form itself, I don't know the tables, but I know how to get at it

form can have its own alias.

The view alias and label name(s) can be found in the table
field_dispprop. You need to look for rows where the schemaId is that of
your schema and the fieldId is NULL. There is a row for each vuiId and
in the propLong column you will find the information concerning view
names and labels.

The structure of the propLong field is a bit complicated to describe in
an email, but it consists of '\' delimited values detailing the values
of the various properties of the view. The first number is the number
of properties stored. For the view name look for the string
'20\4\nn\' where nn represents the length of the name string and
is that name. The label for "Entry Point, New Mode" is
property number 5026 and that for "Entry Point, Search Mode" is 5027.
If the label is empty then the property value will be displayed as
5026\4\0\\ (for New Mode).

I know it looks confusing but I hope this helps. Using the API is makes
it much slightly easier to decipher as it separates out the properties
for you, but you still have to work out some of the values for yourself.

The "Web" alias name is stored in the arschema table in the objProp

Subject: what does a push field do ?

dear listers,

whenever I try to open one of the AL which contains a Push Field action,
and I try to read the Push Field, I get a error message and I am not
able to read what the Push field does because "one or more fields have
been deleted from the form ..."
I have a backup of the AL so I can read the following for that Push
field action:

action {
  push-field : [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  }

My question is simple: what does all this mean?
So "TEST2" is my form and 536871161 one of the field. But what about the
rest?
Where to find the references?

Thank you
Serouche

Seroche,

Taking your original action:

   action {
 push-field : [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 }

The syntax starts along the lines of

   Push field No\Server length\Server\Schema length\Schema\

So, in your example we have

   Push field no 0 \
length of next field (1) \
'@', which means this server \
length of next field (16) \
Name of Schema which is here called 'TEST2' which is not 16 chars long.

It looks as though someone has changed the name of the Schema in the
definition file. I would therefore suggest that you change the '16' to
'4' and try an import again. It might also be worth checking whether
there is a field with the ID of 536871161 in the form TEST2.

For you information the rest of the push-fields line
(1\536871161\0\4\5\101\6\0\) can be interpreted as:

   1 => Assign Type Field (AR_FIELD in ar.h)
536871161 => Field Id in remote schema (TEST2) we are pushing to
0 => This states that there is no "Push Field If" qualification
   specified in the AL
4 => 'If No Requests Match' set to "Create a New Request"
   (AR_NO_MATCH_SUBMIT)
5 => 'If Any Requests Match' set to "Modify All Matching Requests"
   (AR_MULTI_MATCH_MODIFY_ALL)
   101 => Assign type is a Value (AR_ASSIGN_TYPE_VALUE + 100)
   6 => Enum data type (AR_DATA_TYPE_ENUM)
0 => the first item in the enum list (e.g. 'New' for field Status
(ID 7) on a newly created form)

Hope all this helps,

Ian

BMC have done it again

2007-08-20 Thread Ian Trimnell
Just went to BMC Support Central to check out the latest patches and
have noticed that they have gone and changed the product download
area. This has now changed to "Electronic Product Distribution" (or
EPD) and it does not now work with any of my browsers :-(

Response from https://webapps.bmc.com/epd/ is:

 Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request /GET /epd/
   <https://webapps.bmc.com/epd/>/.

Reason: *Error reading from remote server*

Why oh why do these people go and change things? BTW, I am using
Firefox 2 and IE 6 and they both worked with the old download system.
So my question to BMC is 'what has changed?'

Bug with AR System email engine V7.0.1 P3

2007-07-12 Thread Ian Trimnell

Listers,

We have just had an issue with the Email Engine changed to bug status by
BMC.

Two weeks ago we upgraded our production server from 6.0.1 to 7.0.01
Patch 003. Since then we have had users complaining that they are
receiving random duplicate copies of notification emails when tickets
are raised, assigned, etc. We are a completely self-build site and
don't use any of the Remedy Applications (ITSM, etc.). We logged this
issue with our support partner (Fusion) who after looking at it their
end passed it onto BMC. We have spent the last week sending log files,
configuration files, sample messages, etc., to BMC while they ask stupid
questions that were either totally irrelevant to the situation (e.g.
"which application are you running?") or asking for log files that had
already been supplied.

Finally they tested the problem at their end have have discovered that
the email engine /is /sending out random duplicates and that it is a
bug. Hallelujah!

Needless to say the workaround has come from Fusion - no mention of one
from BMC - which is to revert to Patch 002 of the email engine.

The defect number, if anyone wishes to know, is SW00271676. This
doesn't help those people who installed patch 3 to take advantage of the
bugs fixed in the patch release.

Bye for now,

I am excited to announce to everyone the birth of a running v7

Oracle upgrade can go well. You cannot imagine the joy our family
feels at this successful event. With previous upgrades the labor was
not nearly as intense nor were there as many complications. In fact
since v1 to v2 upgrade I cannot recall any complications with a basic
ARS platform upgrade, but alas we have moved into a new age. The age
of ARS v7 and I suspect all versions going forward. But as with all
births the pain is forgotten and the joy overwhelms.

Thanks to all of you that have so patiently listened to my labor pains
over the last few months and tried to soothe and console. I'm
attributing the success to 26 practice tries, moving from a Friday
night to a Wednesday to increase the stress, and most of all, an
almost full moon! Granted, we cut out the install of approval,
assignment and flashboards, but we will live to do them another day.
One small step for v7, one giant step for remedykind!

I can only hope to share some of my joy with you and make your day a
little brighter also.

Susan

Susan,

Congratulations! We have just delivered an ARS7.0.1p3 system (up from
6.0.1) although we had to take not only the email engine up to V7 but
also the approval, flashboards & mid-tier. Getting the child to see the
light of day was quite a business and we are still mopping up
("birthday" was Tuesday) - but then us chaps aren't as good at births as
you ladies are :-)

To be honest, despite several dummy runs and having V7 (7.0.0 & upwards)
up and working for 6 months the real thing should really have gone
better. Our main problems are:

   * the mid-tier change from ServletExec to Tomcat - worked fine on
all our test beds, just can't get it to work with IIS on the
 production system.
   * there are problems with the approval engine - can't seem to
approve some tickets through the system and am studying all the
logs to see what is going on.
   * our email engine has been happily sending out duplicates of all
messages. Again trying to plough through logs to see what is going on.

Despite all that the main punters (those who don't have to use our
approval-based form) are very happy with the new server. The mid-tier
is a lot slicker and forms look mouch better on the web than they used
to. Still, fire fighting on one's own is no fun. My side-kick was
around during the upgrade day but has had to dash off to help out his
parents who have 4 foot of water in their house thanks to all the rain
we have had in the UK lately. Perhaps I could divert the river near our
campus into our machine room - that should get rid of my current
problems for a while ;-)

Here's to happy days soon!

We're running HelpDesk 6.0 on ARS 7.0.1 on Windows machines. When my

'New' case, and a new, blank HD Case window opens, the new window has
copied the last entry from the worklog of the previous case. They
can't erase it, either. They can highlight it, and press delete and it
appears to go away, but when they open it again, it's still there. It
doesn't appear to stay in the new case once it's saved, though.

I have one HD analyst who hasn't upgraded from 7.0.0 patch 2, and this
isn't happening to him.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ron Legters

Ron,

We have experienced this problem as well. Our site is purely custom
build and still running on a 6.0.1 server. Our users who installed the
7.0.1 WUT (and also those who installed patch 1) have found that, upon
submitting a ticket, the contents of the diary field (equivalent to your
worklog) stays there in the diary field. Deleting it and writing over
appears to not work as if they open up the diary field the old diary
contents are still there. The new contents are, however, saved with the
new ticket. This sound exactly the same as if happening on your site.

I would suggest two courses of action:

  1. Submit a ticket to BMC (or your partner) and cross reference it
 with ticket ISS03078412.
  2. Revert to the 7.0.0 User Tool (any patch level will do) and this
 particular problem will cease.

We are currently in the process of upgrading our system to 7.0.1 and I
have now experienced this problem with the development server and the
7.0.1 User tool. Needless to say both BMC and our partner are currently
scratching their heads over this one and are claiming to not to be able
to replicate this.

Login name restrictions

2006-12-01 Thread Ian Trimnell

One for Friday afternoon (well it is here!)...

Does anyone know of any character restrictions in the login name field
(ID 101)?

(ARS 6.0.1 patch 1368, W2K server, SQL Server 2000)

In the 9 or so years we've been running AR System we have been using
real names for login so that we can easily see who is doing what through
work logs. We have a user with the surname "O'Toole" (note the
apostrophe). The user has no problems signing in over the past 18
months. I have some Computed Groups and I was testing adding some users
to the definition and if I try this particular user the group definition
can not be saved. In computed group definitions Groups are encased in
double quotes (") and Users are encased in single quotes ('). This
falls apart when the user has a single quote in their login name. I have
checked the manuals and there is no mention of any restrictions on field
101. I have just tried to use the KnowledgeBase but it doesn't appear
to be working at the moment!

Any thoughts chaps & chapesses?

aslo asked for Admin Password) but I didn't understand which password
does it mean, so I didn't enter any.

That's all.

Now I tryed to access ARS server, but whatever login and password I
enter it shows me the following error -

Dmitry,

I think what you need here is to set the Mid-Tier Admin Password in the
Admin Tool first. Then use that password in the Midtier config tool and
you should be able to connect through.

When you install a 7.0.x ARS server the installation process requires
you to enter passwords for both the Application Service and Mid-Tier,
which I think is a new requirement.

Hope this helps.

Dan,
Depends whether you actually want to change the field Data Type to
be an enumerated field or whether you just wish to change the Display
Type to be 'Drop-Down List'.  The latter is useful as it makes users
actually choose form an item on the attached menu rather than typing in
something themselves.  Obviously you can't actually change the field
Data Type to be 'Selection', you would have to create a new field and
map the old data across to the new field.
Hope this makes sense.

Claire,
This information is stored in the field_enum_values table.  Cross
reference the schemaId of the table (found in arschema) and you should
find all the values for any enumerated fields there.

Personally I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Here in the UK a lot of us do not receive support direct from
Remedy/BMC.  Our VAR, Fusion, has a very good technical support team
who can deal with most of the problems that we throw at them, and as I
have been developing our home-grown AR System applications for over 8
years now we do not actually have to call upon their services that
often.  I have to say that when Fusion can't deal with our problems it
usually takes an awful long time to get an answer out of Remedy.
Fusion used to have their technical guys based in both the UK and
Ireland and the support from both teams was equally good.
So long as the actual help one receives from the support team is
good does it actually matter where the phone is picked up?  Most good
support desks have second level, and higher, teams backing them up
and the front line works better when they know when to pass problems up
the tree.

Re: Problem with Remedy Archiving when adding Views to the form.

2006-09-06 Thread Ian Trimnell

Ron,
As James has since
pointed out, you can not add data fields to an Archive form.  Looking
at Appendix E of the new V7 manual "Form and Application Objects" (or
Chapter 7 of the V6 "Configuring AR System") it says that 'Data fields
(including radio) cannot be modified or added to an archive form.  All
other types, such as trim or table, can be added or modified.'  It also
states that fields in Archive forms created by AR System have read-only
access.
The question that
hasn't been asked yet (at least I haven't noticed it yet) is 'Why do
you want to add a radio field to an Archive form?'
We have a mix of
archive forms, some using the OOB feature, others where we had to set
up an archiving facility before Remedy introduced it back in Version
6.  I have had a few problems with setting up OOB archiving but
eventually got the hang of it when I had passed the learning curve that
accompanies these new features that Remedy adds in.  I must admit that
they appear to have improved it as the versions go on.
Cheers,

  Chris,

YES!! that is exactly the issue. Thank You, for a while there I was
thinking I was the only one.

As for Remedy's response, initially they opened a bug, SW00248651
But then it appears they closed it saying, (and I quote from the support
e-mail)

"After evaluating the information provided in the open bug engineering
determined that the behavior is as expected, with no plan to change it in
the future. Per their comments: The main purpose of a shadow form is to keep
the archive(or audit) data. Views are not required for that."

But this statement is only true if you NEVER add any additional fields.
Now, after banging my head agains the wall a few times, I figured how to
work around this. By simply re-creating the field, from scratch, being
careful to keep the same properties and ID, I was able to add the field to
the Archvie AND re-enabel Archiving. (Even though Remedy doesn't support
adding fields directly to the Archive form.) BUT, the problem I am having
is with the Radio Button field. Try creating one of these dirctly on the
archive form and you cannot set the attributes. They are grayed out.

Remedy provide a 'back up' of the Home Page for you in the
installation directory.  Look in the Samples directory, which is within
the ARServer directory of the installation. If you are a Windows site
then it will probably be found in the path:

  C:\Program Files\AR System\ARServer\Samples\en

(presuming you want the English language version!)  Look for a file
named HomePage.def.

Problems installing ARS 7

2006-05-11 Thread Ian Trimnell
**

I have just logged a problem with the
installation of ARS 7 when overwriting an existing database with a name
other than 'ARSystem'.  There appears to be a problem with the
installation scripts where they quite happily replace every instance of
the string 'ARSystem' with the other name of my DB (we have more than
one AR System database on this MS SQL Server).
But when the script then attempts to
connect to the database to start setting up the tables it uses the
command 'use ARSystem' rather than the database name I specified.  I do
not know whether this will also happen if creating a new database with
a name other than 'ARSystem', will have to find a SQL Server with
enough space to play on.
Will let you know what response I get.

Thanks for the responses. The executions are enabled. I have scheduled a
reboot for Monday morning as it is a production server, and see if it
triggers them on again. It is just to ironic that all escalations stop
running so hopefully a reboot will do the trick. I will let all know if it
does.

Have a great weekend all!

Jim,
Hope things are working again now.
We have had this problem before (ARS 6.0.1 (patched), W2K, MSSQL2K).
We have found that when AR Server loses contact with the database for a
while then , when contact is re-established, everything appears to work
wonderfully except escalations.  I have found that a complete shut-down
of all AR System processes and then bringing them back up usually
restores things without having to reboot the server.
Cheers,
