Does the BCC field on the AR System Email Messages form populate from incoming messages?

2017-07-27 Thread John Marshall
We have recently migrated to Remedy 9.1.02 from 9.0.1. In our 9.0.1
environment, when an incoming email that had a BCC on it was processed by the
AR Email Engine into the AR System Email Messages form, the BCC value on the
form had the appropriate BCC value on it. Now in our 9.1.02 environment, when
an email with a BCC is processed into the AR System Email Messages form, there
is no BCC value on the AR System Email Messages.

I am being told from BMC that not having the BCC populated is "by design" and
that they tested this on an OOB 9.0.1 version with the same results (and
therefore it is by design on v9.1) and that we must have a customization in
place to do this. I cannot find any type of customization that we put in place
that would populate the BCC field via Remedy workflows (and how we would
populate this correctly without reverse engineering the email engine executable
is beyond me)

So I am looking for some input from the other Remedy system admins...For those
of you that have either v9.0.1 and/or v9.1.x (or even earlier versions), would
you confirm the BCC value on incoming email messages is ether being or not
being populated on the AR System Email Messages form when the corresponding
entry is created? Also, would you let me know the ARS version regardless of the
answer

Thanks for the help!

John

[I have also asked this in the communities pages, but thought it a good idea to
each out here as well...thanks!]

No key back to the originating form/record from "AR System Email Messages" form records??

2010-03-30 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Hi all:
It appears that records on the "AR System Email Messages" form, caused by a
Notify action in a filter, contain no information to indicate which form and
which record it originated from.

I would have thought they would have designed the email subsystem to include
the form name on which the filter fired, and the record on which the filter
fired.

There is a unique GUID on each email message's record, but that doesn't tie
back to the form/record.

I am trying to have a table on my ticket form to display all the emails that
have been sent from the ticket.

Looks like I have to add records on a separate form on each Notify action. Or
add filters to the AR System Email Messages form to populate some fields based
on keywords on the message.

Somebody please tell me I am wrong.

There shouldn't be an extended lock on the table, yes it will take awhile, but
the way the Remedy client works is it issues a delete for each record, so any
statements working on those tables will be able to work within the gaps between
delete statements.

If you decide to delete some or all the data from the client, you will have to
think about locking issues, as it takes time to delete large amounts of data
from the client, especially on a production system ...other users will be
blocked, since a delete operation - me think - will require an exclusive lock
on the table..

So you will perhaps need to do this at the database level ... this is not
straight foward ... you will need to look for the T, B, H tables (in the
arschema) and any other attachment field tables for the error log form before
runing any truncate or delete etc..

I enabled the SQL logging for the client, did a refresh, and then copied the

found two of the the select statements taking too long before coming back with
data added chunking to the field table and also an index to one of the
classes and it resolved my issue

Add the followings before your selects if you don't want to execute your query

What I’ve seen as the usual suspect is the Email Error Logs form . Depending on
what level of logging you have turned on for E-mail messages, that 1 e-mail

I agree, although having the table refresh at the beginning wouldn't be as much
of an issue if BMC would simply add appropriate indexes to the forms they
reference...

Lyle said everything I was about to suggest.

It would also be nice if BMC wouldn't refresh tables on tabs unless that tab is
showing (on display of a record). They do it all over the place. It slows
down display of the form, and almost always, the table doesn't need to be
refreshed until the user selects the tab. It bugs me almost as much as using a
TR value.

So, depending on how much of an issue it is for you, you could modify the email
messages form to not automatically refresh the tables, and then add an active
link on tab select that refreshes the table.

We had the exact same issue. The problem isn't the number of errors associated
with any given message, it's the number of total errors in the error log form
combined with the fact that 1) BMC didn't add any indexes to the form (that's
an issue in several places), and 2) the form does not get cleaned up as e-mails
get deleted (that is, BMC didn't include workflow to delete error logs as the
corresponding e-mail get deleted). The issue is that there is a table on the
email messages form that references the error logs form, and when you view a
message, it refreshes the table. Since the error logs form doesn't have an
index on it, it does a table scan in the database every time.

To fix it, do at least the following:

Add an index on the field 'Email ID' on the AR System Email Error Logs forms.

That will significantly speed up viewing e-mails regardless of how many records
are in the error logs form.

Next, you can add a filter to AR System Email Messages that runs on Delete and
performs a Run Process action with the following text:

Application-Query-Delete-Entry "AR System Email Error Logs" '18023' = "$Email
ID$"

This will remove errors from the error log as e-mails get deleted from the
email messages form. That will keep your error logs from continuously growing
out of control (assuming that you don't keep all e-mails in your email messages
form).

Lastly, I would clean out all the current entries in the error logs form,
unless you need them for some reason. If you really want to be clever, you can
only clean out entries that don't still have a corresponding e-mail in the
e-mail messages form, but you'd probably have to either write program or write
some workflow to determine if a given error entry has a corresponding e-mail.
You don't need to worry about deleting large amounts of data in the user tool.
I've routinely deleted 5-20K records at a time in the User tools without
causing any issues for other users on the system. It does take a long time,
though.

Doing all three of those things will keep viewing e-mails fast and keep your
error logs cleaned up with only relevant data (it's no longer relevant if the
corresponding e-mail is no longer there).

Good luck,
Lyle

Lyle said everything I was about to
suggest.

It would also be nice if BMC wouldn't
refresh tables on tabs unless that tab is showing (on display of a record).
They do it all over the place.  It slows down display of the
form, and almost always, the table doesn't need to be refreshed until the
user selects the tab.  It bugs me almost as much as using a TR value.

So, depending on how much of an issue
it is for you, you could modify the email messages form to not automatically
refresh the tables, and then add an active link on tab select that refreshes
the table.

Thanks Lyle
Setting an Index on the 'Email ID' field on the Email Error Logs form was
the solution.

I do the same thing every month deleting 20k-30k items from the messages
form. I should probably setup an archive.
I wonder if ARS 7.5 has the fix for when you delete the message it
deletes its associated error log entry.

Thanks again all, for the suggestions.

There shouldn't be an extended lock on the table, yes it will take awhile,
but the way the Remedy client works is it issues a delete for each record,
so any statements working on those tables will be able to work within the

I had the same problem, but with an asset management form with a couple of
tables ...

I enabled the SQL logging for the client, did a refresh, and then copied the
select statements from the log file to a SQL editor and ran the queries ...
found two of the the select statements taking too long before coming back with
data added chunking to the field table and also an index to one of the
classes and it resolved my issue

Add the followings before your selects if you don't want to execute your query
and want to see how long it will take and if any indexes are being used etc ...

set noexec on
set showplan on
set statistics time on

Turn on DB logging before you open the form, open the form. Analyze the log
and find out what query is taking so long, then find what on the form is
causing the query.

Yes... but make sure you don't need the logs. Is this a production system? If
you are not sure, you may want to export them first to .arx.

I do have over 95,000 items in the email error logs form.
Are you saying to delete those out and retry opening the email messages
form.

What I?ve seen as the usual suspect is the Email Error Logs form .
Depending on what level of logging you have turned on for E-mail messages,
that 1 e-mail entry may have 20 entries associated within the error log
form. (I may be exaggerating)

Its probably not the search of that form but the refresh of several table

It takes way to long to load.

I deleted all but one entry in the messages form and if I refresh my

It is so slow.

Any Suggestions?
