Issue installing ITSM patch 7

2009-03-18 Thread Ashley Henderson
We are in the process of trying to install Patch 7 for ITSM 7.0.03 on a Unix
box running Solaris 10 and can't seem to get the install to complete without
crashing the server. We have previously installed this patch on 2 other servers
with no issues. The difference this time being we are trying to install on a
zone rather than the actual physical box also running Solaris 10. Both
instances also running ARS 7.1 patch 5.

Just curious if anyone else has ran into and issue with this before.

Re: Issue installing ITSM patch 7

2009-03-18 Thread Schon, Stuart
I tried installing ITSM 7 (and ARS7.1) on a zone in Solaris and had
nothing but grief - we tried for 3 months. After repeated calls to our
support company and BMC we basically gave up. ARS 7.1 installed with a
problem as did the CMDB - All ITSM apps refused to install

We constantly had problems with various .so files either being old (made
for ARS 7.0) and or just incompatible with something. The conclusion I
came to was that the Zoned environment was subtly different from a bare
metal env. and nothing I or the Unix admin could do was going to solve
the issue

Re: Issue installing itsm patch 7

2008-06-03 Thread Howard Richter
All,

I just got this from Ben Healy. Looks like there is a bug in patch 007.

Defect #SW00290729 - ITSM7 patch007 installer failed with Internal Error:
Unable to build patch summary. Installation cannot continue. See attached
installer log.

The problem can be caused if the SHARE:Application_Properties form does not
have Property Name = DataLanguage and / or Property Name =LanguagePacks for
each ITSM application.

If either of the above are missing they will need to be created (see
attached SHARE_Application_Properties.zip for example) before re-running the
installation.

Ah, yes, good old SHARE:Application_Properties. The bane of many a Remedy
install script. You'd think that since it only exists to keep track of the
state of the system, largely for Remedy installation scripts, that they'd
spend a bit more attention on making sure that the two worked better
together before releasing a new patch.

I dunno, Howard - that's kind of out there. Guess I'm showing my age or
something, expecting stuff like testing, proper documentation, the software
mfgr. practicing the methodologies it preaches, etc. ;) I guess I need to
move ahead with the times.

If you think that this is bad, I remember a CMDB 1.1 upgrade that had 3
different copies of the SAME patch script (i.e. same patch name and #).
Only a handful of people knew which was which, and not many more people even
knew there were multiple copies. If it hadn't been for that and some
outstanding help from Support, I never would have gotten through that
without having a psychotic episode.

So things may be improving...?

Is this one of those patches that is trying to validate its prereqs and such
before actually installing anything? I know that is a promised 7.5
function, and that they've been working in that direction even in 7.x, but I
don't know if they're there yet.

You might want to check if you have enough space in the drive that holds your
system Temp folder.. From the sound of it, it may be a packing list error -
failure to build a packing list which happens if there isnt enough space in the
temp folder.

Seems like there should be some install logs somewhere that tell you
something about the problem. Anything there?
