No worries from my end, Shawn. We're all interested in seeing the products
on which we make our living improve constantly, or at least we should be.
Advocating same is nothing to apologize for.

2008-09-25 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I didn't mean to make a dig at anyone. If what I said gave you any offense I
apologize because that was not my intent. I was thinking more of my own
reputation. Sometimes I find it more interesting to participate in discussions
that we all feel passionate about like this and say negative things about BMC
than it is to answer questions about how to get the CI Viewer to display
relationships between People and CIs, or troubleshoot why someone's AR Server
is crashing.

In the past I worked somewhere that a person recognized my name from the
ARSList. Some managers who are clued in will look at the ARSList to see if you
have posted here as part of the background check. It's a good way to see what
you know or don't know. So it's best to keep in mind that this is a public
list, archived on the internet, so what we say could come back to either make
us look good or haunt us. That's why I personally don't want to rant too much
about BMC in this format, because you never know what the future holds.

Thanks,

Step back and "reverse the shoes" on this. Why hasn't BMC listened TO the List!

David Easter (Bless His Soul) does as best as he can... There are other BMC'er
lurkers here as well.

When Remedy (BMC) promised "Easy Upgrades" we chuckled...
When Remedy (BMC) promised "easy patches" we laughed...

The ARSList has the "people in the trenches" - it is apparent that the BMC
Consultants maybe are not - else the pressure would be placed internally - or
they are happy with collection of the consulting fees?

So, when I signed up for this years RUG - I saw that "hotel construction" +
"Florida in hurricane season" + as a red flag...

Guess they listen to the "Wrong Convention Planners" or maybe the SIM Module
was not correctly configured to have all the inter-relationships and
dependencies in the CMDB? (Impact of Change to CI="Convention Hotel" has
cascade of ?) Impact Analysis was set to low priority (Customer not attending
convention and purchases vendor-X is impact-Y to BMC)? Service Level Agreements
(and customer expectations) module not deployed?

It is not that we are not outraged and frustrated and would like to Kick some
^^%%$# but what can we do? All of us make our livings on this product and we
are the simple puppet in the controls of the master...

Unfortunately the Master has 'let the team down' due to unfortunate and
"invisible to us" circumstances / decisions / choices...

I am certain that IF the BUW was held this year it would have been quite
impressive - and very memorable as the Fountain Blue hotel is a beauty in
itself - Miami Beach - who could ask for more...

Unfortunately the winds of time and fortune did not blow our ways this year :(

Actually, a coworker of mine who focuses more on the Asset Management side got
an email asking if he'd like to go to BMC and help test some aspects of Asset
Management with real-world data and test cases. I'm hoping that they do this
with every module, and if so we may see BMC's reputation in the market improve
as a result.

How about if they take every bit of the $$$ they would have spent on UserWorld
2008 and hire top-notch quality assurance folks to test and clean up their ITSM
and ARS code. I can think of several segments of it that have obviously missed
out on any sort of coherent QA process. They could at least come up with the
resources to QA the new 7.5 stuff properly, so that we don't get a continuation
of the last several years into 2009-2010. I would much rather receive releases
of code that actually work as advertised than listen to hours of hype about
products that don't (work).

Re: It's official from the BMC UserWorld web site ... October 2009

2008-09-24 Thread strauss
How about if they take every bit of the $$$ they would have spent on UserWorld
2008 and hire top-notch quality assurance folks to test and clean up their ITSM
and ARS code. I can think of several segments of it that have obviously missed
out on any sort of coherent QA process. They could at least come up with the
resources to QA the new 7.5 stuff properly, so that we don't get a continuation
of the last several years into 2009-2010. I would much rather receive releases
of code that actually work as advertised than listen to hours of hype about
products that don't (work).

Sorry to be so cynical, but if I could pick my top priority...

Has anyone notice how 'un-arslist' this topic has been? No one seems to care
and BMC should be concerned about that. The fact that no one wants to rant
about it or even make jokes about it is so uncharacteristic of this group.
This group gets heartburn on a drop of a dime usually. Say it the wrong way
and you get 60 replies! What's going on? I'm very disappointed in this whole
affair. Where's the spark? Where's the outrage? Not like you didn't see this
possibility when you went to the hotel website after last year's RUG and found
they were under construction red flag !!

Are there any plans to share with us any of the news that would have been
shared in just a few short weeks? Any podcasts planned? Do you want the
regional RUGS to start setting up something to provide this? No one is
thinking about these things at BMC?

Why not hold the RUG virtually? Webex's of the sessions. Giant webex's of the
morning gathering. You have the registrations so you know who would be a valid
login. Maybe use this as an opportunity for all customers to login even if
they didn't register. What a show of goodwill to the BMC customer community to
do something like this. Maybe if people get a taste of the sessions and the
value they provide more would attend.

Of course I'm being selfish, I don't really care about the other products.
They have to find people to push their cause. I'm looking for the Remedy stuff
!!

I'm sure there's a 100 people here that can think of additional ways to still
pull this off.

Don't let BMC think we really don't care speak up.

2008-09-24 Thread Robert Molenda

Been there - got the battle scars - burned the T-shirt...

Step back and "reverse the shoes" on this. Why hasn't BMC listened TO the
List!

David Easter (Bless His Soul) does as best as he can... There are other
BMC'er lurkers here as well.

When Remedy (BMC) *promised* "Easy Upgrades" we chuckled...
When Remedy (BMC) p*romised* "easy patches" we laughed...

The ARSList has the "people in the trenches" - it is apparent that the BMC
Consultants maybe are not - else the pressure would be placed internally -
or they are happy with collection of the consulting fees?

So, when I signed up for this years *RUG* - I saw that "hotel construction"
+ "Florida in hurricane season" + as a red flag...

Guess they listen to the "Wrong Convention Planners" or maybe the SIM Module
was not correctly configured to have all the inter-relationships and
dependencies in the CMDB? (Impact of Change to CI="Convention Hotel" has
cascade of ?) Impact Analysis was set to low priority (Customer not
attending convention and purchases vendor-X is impact-Y to BMC)? Service
Level Agreements (and customer expectations) module not deployed?

It is not that we are *not* *outraged* and *frustrated* and would like to
Kick some ^^%%$# but what can we do? All of us make our livings on this
product and we are the simple puppet in the controls of the master...

Unfortunately the winds of time and fortune did not blow our ways this year
:(

Re: It's official from the BMC UserWorld web site ... October 2009

2008-09-24 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Susan,

While I agree with your feelings on the matter, I don't think BMC is going to
do any of the things you suggest. Also, I sent my sales rep an email after the
news of it being cancelled, and have been in contact with him as an "outlet"
rather than the ARSList. Sometimes it's better to handle things that way than
to be known as the "angry anti-BMC person" should you deal with BMC support
personnel or an employer that reads the ARSList. Another reason is that there
is a lot going on right now that takes precedence, at least for me. The
hurricane was a big problem, the U.S. and possibly the world are facing a huge
financial crisis, and lots of other smaller things are going on too.

In any case, I wish you good luck and hope that the BMC User World conference
does take place next year. Right now, I'm just going to try to get my refunds
and focus on other things. Yes, it is highly disappointing, but I don't see
what I can do about it.

Off course we all do care (I'm sure) but its not really going to change things
that much if some CEO sitting on top there makes that decision not to spend any
more $'s than they already have in an attempt to host a conference that didn't
happen in the first place..

Maybe we are just fedup with not being heard..

Thank God for a few who care that includes David Easter among others..

It's official from the BMC UserWorld web site ... October 2009

2008-09-24 Thread Daniel Bloom
Breaking News Update:

The next UserWorld conference will be held in October 2009.

Location still hasn't been announced.

[Side Note: The wording implies no European conference before then

since that too is a UserWorld, but it is not explicitly said]

So this means, amongst other things, the ARSlist Awards 2008 will be held

In cyberspace for the second time in 14 years (the other time was in the

Falcon era). Stay tuned for the restart of the process.
