Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Finally - Someone Gets It
i dont think HE does, but there is a core group of INTELLIGENT, THOUGHTFUL FOLKS THAT CARE, and some that would like to make some $$, and/or see the town get its due, but in a way that preserves its character and its class and its past, and allows the town to have pride in itself again. WE NEED TO TAKE THIS CORE GROUP AND multiply it by 100 or so, get the word out, even about this Yahoo group. Then plan things, go to meetings, plan events, allow an avenue for the residents and those that care to get involved and have their voices heard. To get vocal and get this group IN THEIR FACE as it were, and force them to take notice. That's what I'd LIKE to see anyway H. Wonder how much a billboard would cost? JJ gave me a great idea tho... I'm thinking of making a movie, in and around ABOUT AP, past present AND FUTURE, and I see you and a lot of the folks here as a ready-made library of knowlege and ideas on the subject of the town and its founders, characters, etc, both past and present!! I'm speaking to some folks about it tonite in fact. We'll see what develops. -al --- Skip Bernstein [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Allen, what makes you think The Fishman has any interest in the feelings of Asbury's residents? Re: [AsburyPark] Nashville band gets Asbury Park...
JJ: Thanks for the great link, I loved it! Also gave me a great idea about possibly doing a movie, prob. a short or documentary, on AP. -al --- jerseyjohn99 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Allen's post about the carousel reminded me of this video: http://music.yahoo.com/video/default.asp?vid=2171595 I've recently become a fan of country music. A Nashville band called Rascal Flatts shot a video for their song Feels Like Today in Asbury Park last year. Notice the touches this band added to the decrepit landscape: namely a carousel a guy walking around taking pictures. It's amazing how little Duh Partners care about Asbury's legacy. The fifth summer season they've had control of the boardwalk, and all we get is an arcade a few beer joints. And yet, they plan to sell condos to a year round community. Do they honestly believe people will drop a half million dollars so they can go get tuned up at Deep Blue Atomic Cadillac Ranch? Yeah, that's a great place to take the grandkids! Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Spa for sale
I dunno- I LIKE FREE ANYTHING, ESP. PARKING. If I was driving down rte 35 say, and saw a BIG SIGN that said, 'COME TO ASBURY, WHERE BEACH PARKING IS STILL FREE', I think that might have an effect on my decision of what beach to go to. This is AN IMPORTANT ISSUE w/any impending construction/improvement/development. A 'season parking pass' at a discount and other avenues could also be explored, but DUH PARTNERS (I LIKE DAT) should be thinking about including AMPLE PARKING into new designs. Perhaps a dedicated 2 or 3 floor parking structure nearby, tho lots of buildings in crowded areas are incorporating a basement or top floor dedicated parking area into a lot of new buildings to avoid crowded on-street parking 'hunts' and avoid meters, time limits (hourly type), and folks otherwise parking (and getting tickets- a sure way to have folks NOT return) in residents' driveways, loading zones and other restricted areas. -al --- dfsavgny [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Allan Peterson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Beach numbers did well even with the increase. From todays app Asbury beaches busier Everybody's saying it's the best Memorial Day ever, Asbury Park's commerce director, Thomas Gilmour, said Tuesday. Garrett Giberson, Asbury Park's director of public works, said the city made $25,200 in beach badge sales over the three-day weekend, compared with $16,000 for the whole month of May last year. Very encouraging. However, we probably let a few bucks go by letting 5th Ave and Asbury beaches be free for the weekend. I understand the decision that for the past few years free parking has been an amenity and quite possibly a draw to outsiders (along with our lower beach fees). Free beach parking is an anomoly at the Shore. I am not saying that it should not continue, but there would be nothing wrong with providing convenient and cheap (v. free) parking. Perhaps that would be a deterrent now. However, a rebuilt waterfront (which should have been done by now) would be more of a draw than free parking. Not trying to be negative. Every improvement is appreciated, but we could, and should, be so much further along. Kudos to getting Asbury Avenue open on time. Brian Grant returned my call a couple of weeks ago and said it would. The new interesection (at lest the roadway) looks good. Good job. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
