Something should be given back for sure. A completely separate issue! The two do not connect in anyway. You can't compare adding beautification to sidewalks and courtyards with a park that is next to them! One thing at a time. = You are full of 'opinions' but rely on little fact. There are no plans to 'cut-down' the park as you put it. You are completely wrong about the sprinkler system. It was paid for, installed and donated to the City by the Garden Club. The only thing wrong with it was that the City refused to maintain it or even use it. As to linking parks, sidewalks and courtyards, yes that is exactly what should be done in an aesthetic sense, they are all PUBLIC SPACE and in total define the character of the community. Thank you Steven Froias for Revisiting Laramie in this week's TCN. Steven refutes one of Tommy DeSeno's columns from months ago disputing the truth depicted by The Laramie Project. The same assertions were made by Bill Dobbs in Sunday's AP Press article From Life to Stage: And staff writer Van Benthuysen indulges him: The town of Laramie felt beaten up by the news coverage, Dobbs said.People felt coverage of the murder and depiction related of their town by the media was unfair. The Laramie Project gave something priceless back to them redemption but it did it in such a simple-minded way, he said. [sic] APP.COM - FROM LIFE TO THE STAGE | Asbury Park Press Online http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200771104007 Those points of view don't indicate an understanding which Froias points out: Art reveals greater truths than a trial can. And Steven dismisses some of their points with a apt analogy to the six million Jews and the five million others murdered during the Holocaust. The column also includes an interesting long list of politicians who were to attend last Thursday performance after their press conference. = It is difficult to get the news from poems yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there. - William Carlos Williams http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AsburyParkGLH/database?query=destefanome\ thod=reportRowstbl=3

There are no plans to 'cut-down' the park as you put it. You are completely wrong about the sprinkler system. It was paid for, installed and donated to the City by the Garden Club. The only thing wrong with it was that the City refused to maintain it or even use it. The Bradley Park one day will be renovated. Do you think it will really remain in the same state that it's in now? I'm fully aware that the sprinkler system was donated from the garden club to the city. Maybe i should have worded better. The fact was that it was paid for, and then destroyed (as you, and others have pointed out). __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Nice example Werner. That is how a lot of people think when it comes to AP... Or anything in general for that matter. They just want something done.. anything. They don't care if it's right or wrong, just get it done. That can lead to very bad things. The town need to build a bride. Build one tomorrow that will probably fail a year from now? Or spend a week planning one that will last much longer. The towns people choose to build tomorrow. A week of planing wouldn't have been a problem, but they chose the fast easy way out. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Yes, when you look at it that way, money should be used towards something that aws sopose to have already been done by now. Not more things, when other things are behind on their work. However, you have to look at it with regards to MM. They just joined forces, and they want to show off that they are here... Yes, show off. They are trying to do as many noticable things as they can to show they are here. That is a good sign. Alos, these planters are part of the street scape of the AP waterfront. [AsburyPark] Stop the Static
Despite the improvements to the BW that MM/partners or whoever has made. I am still deeply troubled. I came to this conclusion almost 4 years ago and have tried to dissuade myself. I can't escape it however. Things will not go right until Partners leaves or has an epiphany. MM may lose patience as it loses more money. Metro is fed up with them as is probably the city. I met with the BCH people this morning on a NYC matter. Ultra deep pockets. They spoke to Partners and MM. They have no use for Partners. Don't believe a word they say. They are of the opinion that the city took it on the chin in this deal. I am passed placing blame. Somehow Partners has to go. Don't get me wrong - I recognize and welcome many of the improvements over the past year. What I am afraid of is that it will dry up and wither as soon as MM has had enough. Not that MM is a white knight, but I know what life and progress was under Partners alone. Hopefully I am wrong, but when I see extremely successful real estate people all come to the same conclusion my fear is reinforced. Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: Neutered Radio Nowhere Sterilizing Stifling the Boss?
If an emergency happened today, the only station, we could get live information, would be NJ 101.5, or WNYC 91.5! Everything else would be on the shortwave bands. Will 88.1 be able to do it? We'll never see the likes of Murrow, again! The closest to this is Bill Moyers! --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In a message dated 11/3/2007 8:12:08 A.M. [AsburyPark] Library Square Park update and Trinity Church Meeting
Greetings, I'll like to update the group with things concerning LSP. First off, I'm continuing in my effort to get the lighting fixed. Reidy still hasn't returned my email, but I have had a discussion with his assistant about 2 weeks ago, but as of yet, still no progress with getting the lights fixed. I'll keep trying though, and I may have a meeting with JK very soon to discuss this. The PD has been patrolling the area since I found the hypodermic needle, and the ocean front security patrols have also expanded to the east side of the park. Since the cleanup of the park, no new drug bags have been found. Unfortunately, some of our residents still view the vandalized fountain and surrounding park as a dumping ground. I also had a great meeting with David Stout on Saturday. He was very happy to hear my concerns, and we discussed quite a few things that would help to keep the area safe and clean. Here's some highlights; 1) Trinity now has a person dedicated to cleaning up the area after their soup kitchen closes for the day. While it's only one person at the moment, it is making a difference. 2) Trinity now opens their bathroom for soup kitchen users, under supervision. This will cut down on people using the park as a bathroom. 3) David and I discussed creating an incentive program called Change Asbury Park which would provide a small amount of monetary assistance to people in need who are interested in helping to keep our city clean. We discussed the possibilty of having a change drive to help fund the program. I've already offered to donate the large amount of change I generate each month to help with this. This clean up program would start with the park, and expand throughout the city. We are hoping that we could teach the city about littering by example. I know this sounds optimistic, but nothing else is being done at the moment and we have to start somewhere. 4) David would also like to see the other churches surrounding the park get involved with cleanup, so that's something we will be working on 5) We also discussed the creation of a community based webcam network that would consist of webcams placed on all of the surrounding churches, which could be viewed on a common webpage, and monitored by citizens. 6) I didn't bring this up, but I'm willing to donate stickers and printed plastic bags to identify the handouts coming from Trinity. This would help to identify the people who are littering with these items, and possibly provide an incentive not to do so. 7) We also discussed the fact that the park is underused by the community at large, and that it would be great to bring some small events into the park. This will be an ongoing discussion. That's about all for now. I'll keep the group posted on our progress. I also would like to say that David Stout has his heart in the right place, and he understands the need to become better neighbors with the communtity. He wants to work harder too, and it was really great getting to meet him. I also had the opportunity to see the soup kitchen in person, and I must say it was a bit sobering and depressing. They are serving people ranging from 10 years old to seniors, and being helped with compassion and dignity. In closing, I'd just like to thank my fellow group members for their support, and hopefully in time this effort will make a little difference in our city. Jack Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Library Square Park and my meeting with Trinity Church
Greetings everybody. I've been pretty busy with real life stuff lately, so I haven't been posting much. I'm still very involved with the issues concerning Library Square Park. The many issue at the moment is getting the lighting fixed. Emails to Terry Reidy have not been answered, and I did have a phone conversation with his assistant, but now 2 weeks later the lights are still out and no progress has been made. I will continue to push for getting the lighting fixed...but so far I'm amazed that it's so difficult to get a few lights repaired. The PD has been patrolling more frequently, as has the security used by MM. So far, no drug bags have appeared since the hypodermic incident. Unfortunately, some locals still think the fountain is a garbage can, despite the fact that there are 4 actual garbage cans within 10 feet of the fountain. On Sunday, I had an excellent meeting with David Stout of Trinity Church. He agreed that people using Trinity's soup kitchen had been littering in the park, and he wants to be a good neighbor and help to stop this. Trinity has now opened their bathrooms to users of the soup kitchen. They also have an employee who is assisting with cleaning up after soup kitchen users. We also discussed creating an incentive program for soup kitchen users to get them actively involved with cleaning the park, and possibly expanding that service to the rest of the city. Basically, we discussed keeping the park clean, and using it as a learning example for other parts of the city. We also discussed potential ways to give incentive to soup kitchen users to be involved with community clean-up. One simple idea is based on the concept of people donating their spare change, such as the tons of it I acquire every week, to paying people a small amount of money in exchange for helping to do clean-up. This is just the seed of an idea. We briefly discussed a name for this program, such as Change Our City or something such as that. We also discussed getting all of the churches involved in promoting a cleaner and safer park together, which is something we will continue to discuss. Another issue that was brought up was the surveillance cameras coming to our city. I'm not sure if these will cover Library Square Park, and they may not be needed there once the lighting is fixed. An alternative was the concept of an alliance of webcams placed by the 4 churches that border the park, and these could be integrated into a community based webpage monitored by citizens. This is just the seed of an idea as well. Finally, I was also thinking of donated stickers and printed bags to Trinity for use with the food pantry handouts that they provide. This would clearly identify the source of litter from them should it happen, and possibly be another incentive to prevent users from littering. All and all, it was a great meeting, and I have to say that David Stout really has his heart in the right place. I also got to see the soup kitchen in action, and it was rather depressing to see the variety of citizens that need help, ranging from young children, to seniors. Yahoo! Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Neutered Radio Nowhere Sterilizing Stifling the Boss?
They are for the most part live radio and if their EAS receiver is working, which it was the last time I saw it, will broadcast any emergency reports automatically. Just like all radio stations in the area It is required in the terms of their license. 2fine4u [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If an emergency happened today, the only station, we could get live information, would be NJ 101.5, or WNYC 91.5! [AsburyPark] Re: Library Square Park update and Trinity Church Meeting
Jack, thank you so much for the update. It really sounds like Trinity is committed to trying to serve it's purpose with an eye on also being a good community citizen and listening to those who surround the church. Bravo. I would be happy to contribute to the fund you mention below. Just let me know. I'd be happy send it to you. And thanks for staying on this issue. Sometimes it may seem like nobody's listening but you are in fact making a difference and should feel very good about that. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Jack Pitzer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Greetings, I'll like to update the group with things concerning LSP. [AsburyPark] Foreclosures Under Investigation
Adapted from Borrowers Face Dubious Charges in Foreclosures - New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/06/business/06mortgage.html?hp=pagewant\ ed=all , November 6, 2007 Companies instigating foreclosures may be taking advantage of imperiled borrowers. Bankruptcy specialists fear that some consumers may be losing their homes unnecessarily or that mortgage servicers, who collect loan payments, are profiting from foreclosures. Bankruptcy specialists say lenders and loan servicers often do not comply with even the most basic legal requirements, like correctly computing the amount a borrower owes on a foreclosed loan or providing proof of holding the mortgage note in question. In an analysis of foreclosures in Chapter 13 bankruptcy, questionable fees had been added to almost half of the loans, and many of the charges were identified only vaguely. Questionable practices by loan servicers appear to be enough of a problem that the Office of the United States Trustee, a division of the Justice Department that monitors the bankruptcy system, is getting involved. Fees for legal services in foreclosure are also under scrutiny. A class-action lawsuit filed in September in Federal District Court in Delaware accused the Mortgage Electronic Registration System, a home loan registration system owned by Fannie Mae, Countrywide Financial and other large lenders, of overcharging borrowers for legal services in foreclosures. The system, known as MERS, oversees more than 20 million mortgage loans.
