[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park Metal Container Shops

2008-07-25 Thread New Beetoap
There are places that protect scenic and historic views. Didn't
anyone think of that before putting up those shacks?

I've always appreciated when I have good photo opportunities. That
fortune teller place is known around the world and certainly should
have been protected.

Its changed for the worse. It used to be a white building and the
one nextdoor (bandstand) was orange. A great classic Asbury image
from the boardwalk. Now its blue with a yellow building behind it as
viewed looking NW.

People from all over the world who are Bruce fans come to Asbury

she has a photo

That's exactly what I was getting at when mentioning the views and

A few windows would really help that out. Guess solid walls are

windows and doors, that's what creates a human scale and feel to

well im not saying that anything could cure those walls... they are
poorly done, and without reason. windows could have even
be falsified or metal accents could have been put in their place
for continuity. (i'll try to think of some examples of this as the
day goes on, there are lots of buildings that do this) but
unfortunately there are not many who design like that today... form
follows function is the way most people go, and thats not necessarily
the best way to go about everything. in this case it left blank
barren and averagely done stucco walls (you can see the uneven
surfaces in certain lighting). in this case, the form following the
function of the interior of the building left ugly barren blank
walls. the designer chose to use one color for every pavilion to
compliment the cream colored stucco, and they put those colors on the
blank walls to try to, i guess, hide them or make people think they
have a purpose... but they are blocky and very plain.

awnings and shades and canopys are going to be placed on every
building... the cutouts for where those will be placed are visible on
every pavilion. there might be some other accents in the form of
lights or signage for stores that could occupy those blank walls
since they will stand out, but i havent noticed any electrical access
left on those walls so i doubt it would be something of that
nature... but we shall see.

like i said 50/50 so far... theyre better than what was there, but
the architecture is very very subpar. i appreciate the shops and
stores much more than the buildings. and the 5th ave pavilions
appearance saddens me.

Let's not forget that point that MM chose not to be good neighbors to the
Empress with
the 1st Ave pavilion also. They've pretty much destroyed the view of all the
ocean side
rooms now. This could've been totally avoided if they chose to build up one of
the other
pavilions in the same way, such as the one they are needlessly occupying.

I wanted to make two recommendations for groomers:

The first is Debbie Tanza who comes to your home and grooms. Her phone
number is (732) 269-1466. She is fabulous and does a wonderful job on
our dogs.

If your dogs are easier to groom outside your house, you should go to
the Dawg Joint. Two locals who live in the Santander just opened it at
513 Bangs Ave. We brought the grouchier of our two dogs there this
morning and picked him up a hour later looking wonderful. The Dawg
Join has a great vibe, fantastic services, and unique dog foods and

I note that while “Guido” is apparently a derogatory term, in

I didn't appreciate seeing the Boardwalk and Beach being used as

Funny what you can get in this town, if you're a favored group!
Just an observation, so no flames please!

Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Goldwater on Guido's Pizza

2008-07-25 Thread Jersey Shore John
Nine is a musical with a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics
by Maury Yeston. The story is based on an Italian play by Mario
Fratti inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8½. It
focuses on film director Guido Contini, savoring his most recent (and
greatest) success but facing his fortieth birthday and a midlife
crisis blocking his creative impulses and entangling him in a web of
romantic difficulties in early-1960s Venice.

 _Mid-Week Meanderings_

meanderings.html)

I will admit that I have been too captivated by the postings on
other blogs
to actually sit down and write anything of any substance this week.
But, I do
feel obligated to weigh in or point out some pretty fun and
interesting
 stuff.

First, Mayor Pringle continues to inspire outrage and indignation
among
those of Italian-American descent. The letters to the Editor of the
APP and “Op-Ed
” pieces from distinguished members of the Italian-American
community decry
the use of the pejorative term “Guido”.

Tommy DeSeno, a proud Italian-American, will apparently address the
Belmar
Borough Council tonight on behalf of Italian-American groups. I can
only
assume that these are the same groups that protested the HBO series
“The Sopranos”
as being stereotypical and racist. (Never mind that the reality
show “
Growing Up Gotti” was every bit as stereotypical, but received
little attention,
 as it wasn’t a hit).

 Here’s what I think:

 1) Pringle was clearly not exercising good judgment.

 2) Let’s get over it.

I note that while “Guido” is apparently a derogatory
term, in

today’s
Asbury Park Press was an advertisement for “Guido’s
Pizza” of

Eatontown. A simple
google search of “Guido’s Pizza” turns up
158,000 hits. (Is

it offensive to
call someone “Guido” if that is their given name?)

As bad a term as “guido” is, you don’t see
many “Nigger’s

Fried Chicken”*
 joints out there.

Tommy, please copy me on those “cease and desist”
letters to

those 158,000
 pizza joints.

Haha, This makes me wonder how many people actually look at the
pictures that I post. I have a picture of the sign at

in front of the spot between 1st and sec is a sign announcing a

What kind of sculpture contest?  Did did it give more info or?
