[AsburyPark] Even the porn industry wants a bailout
Morning Report: Even the porn industry wants a bailout By Don McKee INQUIRER STAFF WRITER Finally, in this era of unprecedented government bailouts, there is an industry worthy of our tax dollars. In a story that no sportswriter could invent, CNN last night reported that another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis unfolds. Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said yesterday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry. Things must be tough all over. Michael W. Brim 321 Sunset Avenue, Unit 5F Asbury Park NJ 07712-5550 Cell: 732-996-8160 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: Lost 3 Businesses
I stopped by Wish You Were Here the week before Christmas to get my son stocking stuffers. He loves their candy counter especially the candy cigarettes. Cathy has a sign on the counter that the store is for sale. I think is so sad. She's been there for a long time and she is always open. Not every store on Cookman can share that fact. I don't work downtown anymore or I'd go there more. The only way to keep businesses open is to visit them. Wish You Were Here isn't expensive. They have really unique items and they sell retro candy (the aforementioned cigs, Clark's teaberry gum, pop rocks, fun dip, mary janes, etc.). I remember when Cookman was so dead that I expected to see tumbleweeds blowing down the street. It could happen again. Anything can happen again. Jennifer Yahoo! Most therapists HAVE a therapists themselves! Read the book, August. It is hilarious and sad about what happens when therapists leave NYC for thier month long vacation in the month of, you guessed it, August! The AP library should have a copy. Don't know if it's still in print. It's quite thick, but you can't put it down once you start reading it. A sort of Catcher in The Rye, type book! Just going to interject my 2 cents. As a longtime married, being Gay is not the same as being mental! I don't see being Gay as a condition for one and for another, I don't see it as treatable. It is what it is! I have a tough time as it is being straight! I've been through therapy but not for my sexuality. I have problems dealing with MY reality, much less someone's elses drives, sexual or not. Since I don't understand for lack of a better word, what it is to be attracted to the same sex, I don't judge someone as being sick or mental, if they are or gravitate to a person of the same sex. Trying to diagnose someone, is like someone pretending to be a lawyer without a license! Since I am not Gay, I don't try to figure it out no more than the pigmentation of my skin, makes me Black. But I would love if someone else caught it. then so should being straight, gay, boring or married or single be a diease. yeah, thats what is so funny. but ideology can make us believe anything. I dont' actually doubt that there are people who go into therapy identifying as same sex loving and change. Gender and sexuality are much more fluid than we like to think. Lots of women waffle in the bi scene I imagine. Many therapists need therapy themselves. Amen! They are some of the sickest mental cases out there. and they have savior complexes to boot. [AsburyPark] Homelessness and Homosexuality
Friends of Asbury Park: I got an email today from a friend I went to school with. He is doing amazing work with/for the homeless in New York City. He shared a news story with me that was done on his organization and their clients. You can view the story here: http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=p2sacaf_hPc I think that people in the gay community in Asbury Park will find this story particularly interesting-note the stat on the percentage of homeless teens that are gay. The one young man who is featured in the video seems a far cry from how some in Asbury Park have characterized the homeless in the past (ex-cons, pedophiles, rapists, murderers, and people with a history of violence who are unwanted individuals). I hope this finds you well. Peace, Jim Keady, Director Educating for Justice Yahoo! JSRM claimed it would offer services to any homeless, but there were special prerequisites for gays to reject their orientation and get special counseling for their addiction. The research I did at that time indicated that Asbury Park, more than our neighboring towns, was likely to attract homeless gay teenagers seeking food and shelter, and I campaigned strongly against the mission because of its insensitivity to the issues documented here http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/national/20070307Seattle_Study_LGBT_ youth.pdf, here http://tinyurl.com/84byuq , and here http://tinyurl.com/88yny7 . (E.g.: Three former 'ex-gay' leaders were scheduled to make public apologies Wednesday in Los Angeles for the harm their ministries caused gays and lesbians, and will call for those still involved in ex-gay therapy to acknowledge their part. Those ministries now avoid the term ex-gay. They prefer to say they are ministering to people struggling with same-sex attraction. ) Such uncredentialed ministries don't alleviate suicides; they aggravate them, especially among teenagers. Back in early 2007, the following letter to you (not written by me) was made public as the letter writer noted. As far as I know, you did not respond to this letter, and JSRM's supporters never concretely refuted David's Scott's position on the matter. Mario, I never received the letter you quoted from below. Can you: 1. Send me the full copy? 2. Let me know where it was published publicly? 3. Let me know who wrote it? 4. Let me know the date it was sent? I am unsure what letter the author is responding to and I know that I never personally posted any letter on the AP-GLH website (I assume he/she meant the listserve). I am neither gay, nor was I a homeowner in AP, so I was not allowed access to that listserve. I kept fairly detailed records of all emails and letters that were sent to me by constituents. I just went through these records and I could not find the letter/email in question. Given these, I think you can see why I never responded. Re: [AsburyPark] Homelessness and Homosexuality
Jim, This was an extremely poor post on your behalf. You could have simply posted the video without taking a stab a SUFA. I don't recall anyone making the general claim that homeless equals ex-cons, pedophiles, rapists, murderers, and people with a history of violence who are unwanted individuals. Rather than twisting the words or having some built-up anger because you were not able leave a legacy by getting this facility in Asbury, look at the facts. Many in Asbury support the facilities we already have in place. The concern was with the operators of this particular facility not the homeless. From: jwkeady j...@educatingforjustice.org To: AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, January 9, 2009 3:00:30 PM Subject: [AsburyPark] Homelessness and Homosexuality Friends of Asbury Park: I got an email today from a friend I went to school with. He is doing amazing work with/for the homeless in New York City. He shared a news story with me that was done on his organization and their clients. You can view the story here: http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=p2sacaf_hPc I think that people in the gay community in Asbury Park will find this story particularly interesting- note the stat on the percentage of homeless teens that are gay. The one young man who is featured in the video seems a far cry from how some in Asbury Park have characterized the homeless in the past (ex-cons, pedophiles, rapists, murderers, and people with a history of violence who are unwanted individuals) . I hope this finds you well. Peace, Jim Keady, Director Educating for Justice [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Yahoo! [AsburyPark] EVICTIONS 170
This morning in M. County Court, there were 170 cases before the judge in Landlord Tenant Court for evictions. Many were dismissed, but quite a few either defaulted (no show) or both showed. From the landlord side: 1. Don't rent what you can't afford. 2. If you're boyfriend or girlfriend move in, you should have the understanding that: a)they should be working) b)they should be paying the rent. I look in amazement when a women with kids has a guy living with them and she tells me - well he's not payig the rent, I am. So i say - yea, but he's working, right? 3) Beer is rent money. Skip your beer and pay the rent. Same for xmas and flat screen tvs. You don't have the rent money, don't run off and get a new tv. Especially if your landlord doesn't have one. 4) Work. Especially if the landlord offers you construction work and you tell the landlord you can't pay, well, because there ain't no work out there and you have a nice new truck full of tools that look like they've never been used. wake up and put those bedroom windows in - and pay off your debt. 5) Don't get a pet, especially a large dog that eats $100 worth of food a week. That's more then I spend on my own kids. 6) Turn your heat down. Turn your heat down and close the front door. 7) Wash more then one thing in your free washer. Hang dry. 8) Don't get roommates, charge them for their room and pocket the rent money... Another headbanger - a women never married the kids father, but have lived together the kids 13 years THEY run up credit card debt etc under HER name. So now, taking some good advice, file bankruptcy for about 50k in debt which cost her $2500. Today, she's excited becuase her not-husband cased in an annunity that will net about $42k. He's buying a new motorcycle, her a used car that she wantsa new flat screen tv... And you're in court, the tenant gets a legal aid attorney and the landlord - the landlord can't afford an attorney because the tenant hasn't paid rent Hopefully Mr. Obama can do more then stimulate us with money that will then likely be pissed away - Maybe I'll take that $1k and instead of making a payment towards my kids schooling that I have to pay for, and say screw it and buy a new tv, even though I really don't need it. The old one turns on and off and I don't need to see much more detail. I usally fall asleep when I turn the tv on anyway. Yahoo! Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Homelessness and Homosexuality
All the information has been sent by private email. In a message dated 1/9/2009 4:54:24 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, j...@educatingforjustice.org writes: I never received the letter you quoted from below. If you can send along the info above, I will do my best to address this matter as a matter of public record. = **A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! [AsburyPark] January 7 Council Meeting - Recordings Posted Now
Hi guys and gals - I've got my notes and recordings from this week's council meeting up on www.asburyradio.com now. I think the recordings start after the annual new year appointments and reappointments. If I so and I can get them from clerk Steve Clerk, I'll post them. There's a lot of discussion devoted to the ordinance implementing the 5- year tax abatement. Now that I've had a chance to read the ordinance, it certainly says it supercedes all other such exemptions. I'd interpreted Reidy's explanation as meaning that this was for individuals who'd fixed up their homes, so they wouldn't get wacked with a tax hike right away. But the ordinance states that it applies to industrial and commercial projects, too. Maybe Jim is familiar with this one. You can also hear City Attorney Tom Hastie's explanation very clearly on the recordings. See what you think. Thanks for checking it out! Maureen Yahoo!
