It's called 1st Saturday.

Where? Every sign I saw said First night. The trolly stops said First
Night. Maybe it was recently changed to 1st Saturday, but even that's
a bad name.

2007-08-06 Thread Hinge
All I can say is that everybody I know, including my co-workers at The
Saint refer to it as First Night.
I wanted to see how it was listed on the cityofasburypark.com website,
but the website appears to be broken again.
I don't think it's the web developers fault that the website has
problems. Currently, something is pushing the page to be wider then
it's supposed to be, and I believe it's because whoever in the city is
in charge of updates isn't following guidlines. The current site is a
content managed site, which means that the framework is complete, and
there is an administrative back-end built into it so that somebody
from the city can login and add new content.

I will not argue with you, perhaps you are right and maybe, like many
things, it is only in my mind. However, whatever it is called, at
least the other night, it was a smash. Cookman was packed and it was
difficult to find people from AP there. I was in the Salt Water Cafe
at 11 pm and that was packed. The bw had people walking till that hour
and past. The beach was packed both Sat and Sun. A lot of buzz about
the town. Metro did a full page ad in the NY Post the other day.
Everything was always here. You just had to have the will to do
something. Thank goodness MM and Metro have some control now. We are
finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm not arguing either, and I also attended the event and loved it.
All I am saying is that everybody I know refers to it as First
Night, which is obviously incorrect. I'm glad that the name isn't that.

There really isn't a good reason why a city website has to be set up
like this in my opinion. The website makes you do extra steps for
just about everything. Want more information on one of the upcoming
events? You click on the event to get a box asking if you want more
information to click there. After clicking it you'll load a
Microsoft Word doc. This stuff should all be done in html. It
would make it cleaner and help it be noticed much more by the search
engines. The city is losing a lot of marketing power with things
like this.

Gary,
You are correct.
Also, in looking at the source of the page, they aren't even using the
meta tag to help with search engine indexing.
It's too bad, because in general the site looks pretty good, and if it
was updated correctly people would probably return to it, but as it
stands now it's somewhat of a frustrating experience.
