Wegman's actually is the only place in the area where I've found good
German breads and sausages...

I'd be into that. Unfortunately German delis just don't seem to do
well around here. The last in the area that I knew about was in the
Kmart Plaza in Wall. They only lasted a few years if that.

BTW, I finally had the chance to go to that wonderful German
restaurant not far from Charlottsville, Virginia last week. Passed
it every year for the last 15 years or so, but finally had dinner
there. Really nice place. I think it's called Bavarian Chef.
That place, along with a German restaurant in Hershey, PA have been
my favorites in the states.

Schneider's is good locally, but it pains me to have a German
restaurant without good German beer on tap :)

Try a care-ful re-read.

My tone was not breathlessly excited. That's reserved for private moments.

I said sounds good as it should, coming from an official city update.
But I was looking for more details from this group, hoping, for instance,
that a building construction supply co would not be any of those box chains.

No need to whack yourself.
An Italian market ain't an Italian restaurant.

I was hoping to drop bucks here, instead of at Taste of Italy, Nino's,
Sal's, et al. when looking for some take-out like mama used to make or
imported
prosciutto, provolone, etc. NYC's Balducci's was great when it remained in
family hands; then they sold out.

Actually, Wegmans does a good job stocking quality imports, but a small
market in AP within walking distance would be great. Look for DOP:
product
of' not imported from.

End of today's lesson on reading and Italian markets.

Not so sad.

It was sad when long-time residents like me had to leave town to buy much of

Restaurant was great too when it was bright and airyu and you could watch

Drew's has everything in its cases labeled with ingredients and price.

Wegmans gets the Best English award for having the only checkouts

I wish they were in Asbury Park, but FYI:

1. Nino's, at the mini shopping center, SE corner of West Park Ave and Hwy
35.
(Their original bakery is in WLB) Great sfogliatelle and rice pudding, like
Moma's. Super clean. _Click here: Italian Deli, Food, Catering Services.
Oakhurst, NJ._ (http://www.ninojrsitalianspecialties.com/)

2. The former Pork Store on Asbury Ave. moved across the street and is now
called Jimmy Pecci's Taste of Italy.
 _http://www.tasteofitalymarket.com/index.html_
(http://www.tasteofitalymarket.com/index.html) , close to the Parkway.
Pastries delivered from Brooklyn,
but not as good as Nino's pastries. Best for their premise-made sausage with
or w/o fennel. (Brothers split up.)

3. Drew's was a misleading name. Used to be Sal's and Drew's, now just
Sal's Original Meats Deli Catering, in what used to be the Treasure Island
(now Staples) Plaza, Hwy 35 N, just before County Library. (Drew split to
open solo in Spring Lake Heights).

Regarding the latter two -- so much for the myth of Italian Famiglia.

All of the above know it's Pasta e Fagioli, not pasta fazool.
