How dare you leave off bread, beer and sausages0 Wegman's actually is the only place in the area where I've found good German breads and sausages... Re: [AsburyPark] Re: New businesses
I'd be into that. Unfortunately German delis just don't seem to do well around here. The last in the area that I knew about was in the Kmart Plaza in Wall. They only lasted a few years if that. BTW, I finally had the chance to go to that wonderful German restaurant not far from Charlottsville, Virginia last week. Passed it every year for the last 15 years or so, but finally had dinner there. Really nice place. I think it's called Bavarian Chef. That place, along with a German restaurant in Hershey, PA have been my favorites in the states. Schneider's is good locally, but it pains me to have a German restaurant without good German beer on tap :) On Oct 12, 2007, at 11:04 AM, wernerapnj wrote: How about a good German Deli/Market. Four new businesses are coming to Asbury Park: a new clothing store (dresses), a construction supply company, an audio/visual design and instillation business, and an Italian market. Stay tuned! From: Greetings from Asbury Park: They keep telling me that summer's over but I just can't let go yet. For some reason, Mother Nature also doesn't want it to end. OK, I submit. It's raining and 64. This was just the best summer. Wait till next year! The city is hosting its annual fall citywide cleanup this Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Meet at the City Hall Council Chambers. Call Lori Ross at 732.502.5727 or Rosetta Johnson at 732.502.4584 for details. On Saturday, the Asbury Park Citizens on Patrol will hold a Flea Market from 9 AM to 4 PM in Sunset Park. This is a fundraiser for the organization and proceeds will assist the volunteer group to buy equipment and supplies. This is a great group of men and women who provide a very valuable service to the city. Call Asbury Park Detective Connie Breech at 732.502.5777 or Lawson June at 732.988.3269 for info. Rain date is Oct. 20th. Although only five years old, this weekend marks another of Asbury Park's fun and important traditions: The 5th Annual Asbury Park Mayor's Ball; The Children Are Our Future. This fundraiser supports Mayor Kevin Sanders' initiative for education, arts and recreation for the youth of Asbury Park. The gala takes place on Saturday evening at the Berkeley Hotel. This is a time to dress up, raise some money, have fun but most importantly, provide opportunities for a very talented and wonderful group of young city residents. These children are our future and the future looks very bright! Stay tuned! Our new mounted police patrol was introduced at First Saturday last weekend and was a major hit. The city earned major press and radio coverage. The horses are named Bold Ruler and Guinness and are quite the sight trotting down the street. They wear special studded horseshoes so they don't slip on the payment. Both horses were donated and live at a private farm in Wall Township at no cost to the city. A very special thanks to the Newark Police Department who trained the horses and officers. Wilbur! Speaking of major coverage, I hope you all caught Bruce Springsteen's interview on 60 Minutes last Sunday. There was major footage of the E Street Band's rehearsals and the concerts that took place in Convention Hall. I've spent a great deal of time listening to the new CD (not an album - I'm making progress) and personally think this is some of Bruce's best work. I got a coin in my palm, I can make it disappear. - Magic! We all know Asbury Park is a magnet for artists and two authors are on the radar this month. Stephen Crane who lived in the city on Fourth Avenue is the subject of a fascinating documentary, Greetings from Stephen Crane: The Asbury Tales, being filmed and produced by Susan Pellegrini. I met Susan a couple of weeks ago and she is one talented filmmaker. Patti and I witnessed Susan in action, as her camera captured the final day celebration at the Wonder Bar. The Red Gala a launch party to introduce Susan and the project will be held Oct. 20th. To get more details about the launch party call

I said sounds good as it should, coming from an official city update. But I was looking for more details from this group, hoping, for instance, that a building construction supply co would not be any of those box chains. No need to whack yourself. An Italian market ain't an Italian restaurant. I was hoping to drop bucks here, instead of at Taste of Italy, Nino's, Sal's, et al. when looking for some take-out like mama used to make or imported prosciutto, provolone, etc. NYC's Balducci's was great when it remained in family hands; then they sold out. Actually, Wegmans does a good job stocking quality imports, but a small market in AP within walking distance would be great. Look for DOP: product of' not imported from.
