If Kratos special from MK9 is any indication, there are probably a lot of Quicktime events, which are typically either completely inaccessible or button-mashing affairs (other than the ones that use the same button sequence, but I dont know what sort GoW uses). But Im just guessing based off very little evidence. Yeah, pretty much what Aprone said. The public school system has serious issues, though, certainly. So far, Ive mostly just heard people from all ends of the IQ/Educational experience/socioeconomic/career spectra agree on this, but no ones managed to come up with any decent alternatives, let alone put them to the test.On the other hand, Finlands education system is apparently the best in the world. Perhaps, before you rail on the education system, you learn to spell the word inconvenience correctly. Just saying...The pythagorean Theorem is actually very useful. A lot of times, the real value of math is the thinking involved, not the answers people get; many teachers could do to learn that lesson. Finally, game testing. And designing, for that matter. Part of testing is, I imagine, confirming all the math and that its programmed correctly. Games usually employ a lot of it, so if you dont like math then testing or designing are totally not for you.Just some stuff to think about.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161437#p161437

This thread is better in an off-topic section. Further more, the language in this thread alone makes me shake my head. If this wasnt a strictly public forum, it wouldnt be as much of an issue. [Audiogames-reflector] I'm having a problem with setting up difficulty settings with BGT

I'm having a problem with setting up difficulty settings with BGT

Hey everyone. So after a long time with life getting in the way, Im back to doing some work on JFSimon. Now looking at the BGT manual, I saw something about menu reset in the Dynamic Menu object. So now Im starting to add difficulty levels. I get no compilation errors finally after alot of code placements and stupid sintax errors. The most frustrating thing I have encountered yet, is An alert error. And I made it so if the result is -1, It popps up a message box saying that the difficulty options couldnt be loaded. Then it exits. But Now I cant figure out why that is. Here is some code for the menus. Not the whole thing including the game part of it. But at least for the menus.#include dynamic_menu.bgt#include number_speaker.bgtdynamic_menu menus;number_speaker numbers;// Sound objects.sound error_sound;sound[] tone(4); // The four tones used for sequences.sound[] win(4); // The four winning sounds.sound ultimate_win;sound speech; //We will use recorded speech here.sound speakers; // Setting up the speaker test object.void main(){// Load the four tones.tone[0].load(tone1.wav);tone[0].volume= -10;tone[1].load(tone2.wav);tone[1].volume= -10;tone[1].pan= -100;tone[2].load(tone3.wav);tone[2].volume= -10;tone[2].pan = 100;tone[3].load(tone4.wav);tone[3].volume= -10;// Load the error sound.error_sound.load(error.wav);error_sound.volume= -10;// Load the winning  sounds.win[0].load(win1.wav);win[0].volume= -10;win[1].load(win2.wav);win[1].volume= -10;win[1].pan = -100;win[2].load(win3.wav);win[2].volume= -10;win[2].pan = 100;win[3].load(win4.wav);win[3].volume= -10;ultimate_win.load(win.wav);ultimate_win.volume= -10;//Show game window and play welcome message.show_game_window(JF Simon);speech.load(welcome.wav);speech.play_wait();main_menu();}// Set up menus.//First we settup the main menu.void main_menu(){menus.reset(true);menus.allow_escape = true;menus.wrap = false;menus.add_item(start_game.wav);menus.add_item(keyboard_practice.wav);menus.add_item(test_speakers.wav);menus.add_item(exit.wav);int choice; // This stores the users menu selections.do{choice = menus.run(choose_an_item.wav, false);if(choice==-1){alert(Error, There was an error loading the menu.);exit();}else if(choice==1){difficulty_menu(); //This should bring up the menu of difficulty options to choose from. The entire soundtrack to red and blue was looped yesterday!I just need to know what format you prefer, as I currently have it ready to go in three.WAV, 32 KHZ, 16 bit mono, WAV, 32 KHZ, 8 bit mono,And OGG, 32 KHZ, 82KBPS mono. All files were generated using winamp 5.666 build 3516,Wavepad 5.10, and OGG encoding using winamps ogg lib based on xiph.orgs oggvorbis library, base encoding 144KBPS; slider shows 50%; two-channel, encoder converted to about 82KBPS mono. 16 bit WAV comes out to 104 megs, 8 bit comes to 54.1
megs, and OGG comes to 17.0 megs.Regardless of format, I need to also know if you need the times, and if only for the intros, or for everything, as I can use a newer version of wavepad to get these times down to MM:SS.PPP, so GMS can have lots of yummy data to feed on.8 bit does mess up the square channel of the music, but its still usable.I tried 24KHZ, but it and 22.50KHZ just sounded weird.Pokeflute might be a little bit louder than everything else, as I ripped it back in 2010 along with all of the GSC jingles, so if you get around to making braillemon 2, I already have the hard-to-get diddies done.I can do GSC music to, just try to let me know about a month or so before you need theme, as GSC has over 100 songs as opposed to reds 45, or so; not including jingles.A few songs from yellow are missing, but I figured I could get these to you, once we can work out some kind of systemYou might be able to repurpose them
for things like trading and battling on-line of somethingPikachu Beach sounds like it could work for trading, and an unused track would work perfectly for battle prepping. The GB printer song could be used for internet connections or something.Im downloading your latest version now, hope I can help out a lot, seeing as Im toataly blind, and this braillemon is one thing Ive been dreaming of for a while now.I even had thoughts of learning bgt, just so I could make some sort of consept demo or something, and then I found your game.Good work so far, hope my music can make it sound better.PS; Volume levels might be a little lower than what you have now, but you can always just make the volume go higher, rather than adjusting the music files.Adventure at C does this, meaning that the music startsout somewhat lower, and you just adjust it to your liking.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161451#p161451

introduction

Hello all:I wanted to introduce myself. I was on the forum some time back, but never really posted all that much.My name is Ty; Ive been out of the audio games loop for quite some time, though I tend to frequent a lot of MUDS. I am mainly focused on development; my languages of choice are c++, Python and I do some MOO when Im helping people out from time to time. I have a few projects currently in the works, one of which is a mud I am writing totally from scratch in c++, using Lua for scripting events. I hope to have that open at some point soon after I iron out some more systems I want to include in the core engine and build in some skills.I have also dabbled a bit with writing audio games, but my hangup tends to always be sounds and music. Anyway, here I am--hopefully to help out and maybe find a new game or two.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161457#p

Re: Lets talk about the huge inconvinience of school

Enes, my first response was to want to type Thats terrible! (My first response is usually... ah... not the best.)Science/Technology/engineering/mathematics are sorta where all the non sociopolitical plot is happening, and that system sounds like it disincentivizes all of them.Ive found both braille and tactile aids extremely valuable where math is involved. (They also had me use an abacus back in the courses where doing arithmetic without a calculator mattered.) Increasing access to those is probably where Id start. Without the absurdly expensive machines, though (and sometimes even with those), tactile illustrations must pretty much be made by hand.Even then, tactile diagrams have their weaknesses when it comes to the sciences. As an example, in third grade I had a tactile anatomy book, and completely failed to realize what I was looking at, even with the title Male Reproductive System at the top of the page (I assumed i
t was, like, an ultrasound of a baby or something. My teachers noticed and decided to remove that page for the next three years.).But for geometry and graphing and physics, they are quite valuable. When the specialized stuff wasnt available, my teachers used things like glue, fingernail polish, or certain types of paint to make drawings feelable.I eventually figured out that braille paper is thick enough that I could make feelable lines in it with something sharp and thin (a skewer was best, but I sorta got it to work with paperclips and keys. I dont know where I might find a stylus, which would probably be even better.) This form of drawing, though, is terrible for curves.(For science-type diagrams, though, 3d models are probably better if you dont have a lot of visual memory, or maybe even if you do. Those, though, tend to be expensive and sometimes delicate.)(You know, just this week, I was wondering if Buy a quality embosser
, create and send tactile images (I still wish that was its own word) for cheap/free might be a good idea. Inventing the best full-page tactile display and getting it to go mainstream would be better, but the past decade has informed me that such would be harder than finding the dozens of thousands of dollars it would take to buy and maintain the best embosser in the world by several orders of magnitude.)URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161458#p161458

[Audiogames-reflector] Interesting muds:thoughts/rants/etc

2014-01-11 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — General Game Discussion: sorressean

Interesting muds:thoughts/rants/etc

Hello all:Ive played a ton of different muds in the past and wanted to kind of run things down for people looking for a new mud to play.I first started out on GWSE and really enjoyed the mud. It actually has to be one of my favorites until it went down. Also ran by the same people were SC (more later).Miriani: I was banned for something totally stupid, for the second time. The first was because another person with my name was attacking their servers and Parias insisted it was me. APart from the bad administration though, Ive found the griefing and attempts at rp pretty aweful. I also tend to like muds with more customization and eventually with miriani you have everything everyone else does and the difference is points and credits.Aard: Not an aweful mud, I didnt really care particularly for the syntax stuff sometimes. Even if you would read room descriptions carefully there was stuff missing that you couldnt figure out without as
king for help. Lashers rants about stabbing people with a fork were a bit sad, as well as the fact that decent equipment costed so much. If you dont mind questing at level 1 for a long time to get good eq and selling tp though, you can easily get a full set of quest eq and enchant eq for all the levels worth getting gear at by your second remort.Alter Aeon: I understand this is pretty popular, but I was driven away by a few factors. First I never really much cared for Dentins attitude toward people. I remember one time I complained about a player breaking a rule (it was starla or one of her alts) and his response was something along the lines of shes to stupid to punish. I liked some of the changes in the mud when I played and felt like others were just a dumbing down. There also seemed to be a lot of politics going on in terms of how you got builder--there were builders like Kroza that just had the char to test out weapons and learn more mechanics. My
other complaint was having to kill something 90 times to make an item load. While it wasnt so bad, I really really wouldve liked to see This mob might load x or something, because otherwise without running in huge groups and happening to see it load you had no clue. On the up side, some of the areas were pretty well designed and I loved the quests. I also liked the classless builds, though again there wasnt much room for customization.Project bob: Perhaps one of the best muds Ive played, it tends to go down sometimes. It is pretty much abandoned at this point, with the admins not really caring to do anything or fix anything. I know it could go down and stay down at any time, but I play because I love the insane amount of customizations available to me.Star Conquest: a bit more in depth from Miriani, the hosts can be a bit harsh sometimes. Some of the enforced RP just gives specific players ammo to rant and gain favor, but I do like
the rules in that they are different and it is much better managed from Miriani. There is also a lot more room for ship customization, if thats what youre into, which I really like. I also do like the RP aspect, though I havent really taken it to the point of buying 90 outfits and going to dinner; theres a point when it feels a bit to much like real life. The players are really cool for the most part, and I love the work the hosts put into creating events. My only real gripe, at least to a point is the zealous attitude they take toward the mention of skype or getting in touch with players out of game over oocsay. While I understand they dont want conglomerations of players on Skype like Miriani had simply because it shatters RP, it would be really nice to be able to talk to some of these people out of games. I feel like most people that care about RP wont go that route anyway.Godwars II:This again is one of the better games Ive
actually played. While KaVir doesnt add to it much and there are a lot of half finished projects, the depth of customization is again awesome. Griefing happens, so if you dont like getting killed I recommend avoiding it.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161460#p161460

hi sorresseani am glad you mansioned star conquest. since today i am into this mud again and continued playing on my character mike pelantasas. while i dont like to roleplay all the time it could be quite fun from time to time as you know how to do it. i merge my real ideas and what i wish to do in real life into my roleplaying character.i also have played miriani and was driven away by the fact when i want to haul asteroids i have to pay millions and millions of credits to get a lisence for a month to be able to do this, otherwise my ship gets blown away from under my butt and i end up at a location where i cant escape.star conquest keeps me turning back from time to time cause the playerbase is very friendly and cool as said. the sad thing is the Skype connections indeed and that they arent allowed cause they block effective role playing. i have to admit i skyped with a good friend of mine while playing.i also helped her with her prof
ile but that had to much simmunarities with mine and i was contacted by a admin. i didnt got any warning, but only the words she should come with a profile of her own. taken with me that we live in the same building and on the same network at week and the hosts thought that her account was mine. wich i pointed out that isnt the case and i explained.so not only the playerbase is awsome but the admincrew is also pretty awsome. that they listened to me and didnt give me a warning but only told me that she should do it herself.very kind.greetz mikeURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161463#p161463

Hi.Well, here is what I have to say.I agree that the Public Education system is flawed.I have read a lot of interesting things about it which in most cases I tend to agree with.I am in 10th grade and the thing that strikes me is that for the most part, you are forced to learn a slew of junk. The thing that gets me is they just say well, you have to learn this and then dont really seem to give a lot of detail as to why? This is not to say that all of school is bad.If I hadnt gone to school I wouldnt know how to read braille or do basic math which I agree are essential. There is also learning how to read and write which are also essential skills.Honestly, I think its a waste of time going into high school though. They continue to force people to go through a lot of classes which you may or may not need depending on what you want to do.I think at some point you should have the option to explore for you
rself and learn things you will use later for example specific information you may need for what you are going to do.Of course its not always set in stone as to what you want to do, but I just think High School as a whole is a waste of time.Maybe its just the government just saying Oh, this isnt a democracy, were slowly taking over and eventually well be able to do what ever we want and you will have no say.Well, maybe Im going too far but really, it seems like people are just power hungry and public school is a place where those people can exercise their power freely.Again though, school isnt completely useless like I said. Ive gained some really valuable info over the years but now I just think its a waste on the whole. Why make me learn how to find angles in shapes?Possibly if I was planning to build something I may use it but I do not see myself becoming anything like that.Again, I jus
t dont know.As for colleges, well if they force you do useless crap than I see it as being no better than the public school.Well, they say you have more control over your schedule. That may be true but honestly its the content I care about.I dont want to waste any more time after the 4 or 5 years I will and have wasted in public education.Ok thats enough of my ranting.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161476#p161476

I dont wanna make kids feel the way I do.It might be tempting to just say screw school, but yes, the pythagorean is really really useful higher in math. I dont know how you expect to get ritch testing games, but if you decide you want to go into game development, trig is really really important if you do anything with vectors. Re: Lets talk about the huge inconvinience of school

This topic in general makes me very very sad. Especially when someone is talking about the junk one must learn. While it may not be useful for many people, the knowledge itself is always worth having. I love learning about everything whether or not Ill use it because sometimes it is nice and being able to talk to someone about their major in particular or just join conversations that arent on the only topic I care about is useful. Now, for the usefulness of college:College in and of itself may not be required, but not all of us are going to be Bill Gates. I have found that some of my courses are indeed bland, but cest la vie. If you only want excitement and manage to find a job that provides no bland moments, please let me know.Alternatively, I have found issues with college in terms of the coursework. Ive been teaching myself different programming languages for quite some time now, so sitting through the basics of Java with a
professor who barely knows the basics of Java himself is pretty rough and demotivating. On the other hand, it is one of those things one must do if one wishes to obtain a useful degree, so I deal with it and thats that. I have also learned quite a lot in college--not all of it related to my degree, but if I am paying for the courses I may as well learn as much as I possibly can. It all goes back to whether you wish to wallow in your own stupidity or learn something that may help you down the road. I choose the latter, personally.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161483#p161483

Re: I have a sudden urge to play god of war

I have multiple examples and none of them need nonsense like using braille on cards and components. One of the currently most hot and popular games is called Loveletter. It is for two to four players and the entire game consists of 8 different cards and 16 in total. Someone just needs you to explain each of those eight cards together with the rules only once because it is that simple. Then you simply sleeve those 16 cards and mark the sleeves with the numbers 1 to 8 with a thick permanent marker or glue. Ready to go. This is an example of a competitive game where the sight impaired person needs no help from anyone and has no disadvantage.Dice focused games are also good candidates if you buy a nice set of dice where the pips are not printed put indented. It is also easier to play cooperative games because the sighted people have an easier time helping out where needed. The key is to find games where no hidden information exists. So no games where players keep something in t
heir hand hidden away from the other players. If everything is open and available to everyone then the game can often be played by a blind person with a little help of the other players. Exchanging colored wooden cubes with differently shaped wooden bits is one common method. Changing paper money with poker chips is another easy conversion. There are obviously a lot of board and card games that are a nightmare to make accessible but there are just as many games that can be easily converted. After all there are about sixty thousand board and card games out there. No Im not joking. If I look at the current top 100 list of board and card games then I can imagine quite a few of them can be easily played without sight and with only minor adjustments.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161489#p161489

Wallow in your own stupidity? Now come on, thats pretty damn insulting if i do say so. I strongly hold to my observation that intelligence is not particularly reflected by college course work, for the simple reason that that fancy degree you got, wont tell your employer how much on the job experience you have. Now granted, more technical degrees might reflect intelligence more, but a psych or liberal arts degree isnt going to cut it in real world experience. Also, that piece of paper doesnt tell people how your social skills are, or how easily you adapt to on the job change. Lets not even factor in the chances of being highered now a days if you are blind. Sorry to break it to you, but employers will look for a reason that your incompitent, and they will grasp for straws to not higher you. Dont believe it? thats because a lot of blind people these days Dont Try anything. believe me, I know. I knew this one blind girl. NEVER wanted to do anything. Look at me, Im in wrestling, did the play in 6 7 and 8th grades, ran track in 7th, done band sinse 5th grade, played piano since I was 3, and went to finals for a braille competition 6 times. I dont just seclude myself like a lot of blind people Ive met over the years. I dont wanna come off as a bragger, but seriously. and this topic shouldnt make you sad, its not meant to be depressing. Also, I agree that the government is ruining school for me. I used to love school. Then they started repeating the same courses every year. I mean, I learned about the exact same stuff this year in science that I did last year. Math is just like last year, except with a less boring math teacher, and Advanced Language arts hasnt changed a bit. Were STILL writing short stories, and the theme was picked out
for us. My older cousin said that her son, my yonger cousin, who is in kindergarten, says hes been doing flash cards for the past 5 months. Sounds like real progress. She also said school is a big government day care. If the government was shut down, why were we still going? I hope I dont get people to angry with this response. Im also a bit tired so my message will probably contain quite a few errors and hard to understand sentences. Sorry.Ive had a blind player in my guild and he liked to play the healer. He was not able to navigate the three dimensional world and do quests in the open world on his own but he didnt need to anyway. He usually played in big raids and
even liked to do some player versus player action. He initially needed a friend to set up the game for him although I guess he could have done that by himself but he didnt seem to be a technology guy. He used a modification that could play different sounds based on the remaining percentage of life for each of the players. It could either play completely different sounds or modify them based on which player it was, the distance to this player and whether he was still being attacked. World of Warcraft has hot keys to directly select and target each member of your party and even the enemy they are currently targeting themselves. Another addon gave audio feedback when certain spells and abilities came off cooldown and were able to be used again. His own manapool and life also gave audio feedback to him if he pressed an assigned button. There is also a following and autorun command that walks your character automatically to his target and into range if you are too far away.
A team usually consists of at least one of each of the following archetypes. A tank that stands at the front and takes the damage, a damage dealer that either deals huge amounts of damage to a single or multiple targets and a healer that keeps everyone alive. The blind healer usually followed the Mage around because the Mage usually stands back and deals damage to the creatures from a distance and tries to keep away from harm. Exactly like the priest. So the Mage was kind of a guide dog in a sense for moving around in the world. here an example of the gameplay. The healer listens for events that happen during the battle. For example if the tank in the front falls below 75% health an audio cue happens. So the healer switches his focus to the tank to hear a beeping that gets fast as the tank gets lower and lower in life. He might then switch to the target the tank is currently fighting to hear what kind of enemy it is. Some enemies have the ability to deal large amount of damage
in a very short time so he needs to keep the health of the tank always high. Other enemies deal steady damage and in such cases the healer can wait for the optimal moment to conserve mana and get the best value out of his healing spells. So while the healer is focusing on the tank he hears another audio alert that the rogue has suddenly fallen below 50% of life. There was no warning that he fell below 75% so the Rogue must have been taking a lot of damage all at once. Good thing the healer just heard a little beep a few seconds ago that informed him that his group healing spell has come off cooldown and can be used again. So he decides that instead of switching the focus to the rogue he stays with the tank and uses his group healing spell instead which will automatically heal the rogue as well as the tank. Since the healer knows that his group heal will restore the rogue to 100% he simply listens for another alert from the rogue to learn if he is still in danger but luckily no such
alert can be heard. However, the addon just informed him that the mage has been cursed so he quickly selects the mage, casts his disenchant spell and switches back to the tank to keep healing him.Do you know what the most interesting thing about this example is? The healer didnt even need to speak to his team. So theoretically the blind healer can play even with unknown players and without voice communication as long as he has a guide with him for moving around the world. If however the blind player is together with friends over voice chat then it becomes a lot easier and several of the technological assistance and modifications become obsolete because his friends can just tell him what they need. Yes, playing World of Warcraft and being a useful teammate without sight is not easy and needs a lot of training and experience but it is certainly doable.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.

His own mana pool and life also gave audio feedback to him if he pressed an assigned button. There is also a following and auto run command that walks your character automatically to his target and into range if you are too far away.
Some enemies have the ability to deal large amount of dam
age in a very short time so he needs to keep the health of the tank always high. Since the healer knows that his group heal will restore the rogue to 100% he simply listens for another alert from the rogue to learn if he is still in danger but luckily no s
uch alert can be heard. However, the game just informed him that the mage has been cursed so he quickly selects the mage casts his disenchant spell and switches back to the tank to keep healing him.Do you know what the most interesting thing about this example is? The healer didnt even need to speak to his team. So theoretically the blind healer can play even with unknown players and without voice communication as long as he has a guide with him for moving around the world. If however the blind player is together with friends over voice chat then it becomes a lot easier and several of the technological assistance and modifications become obsolete because his friends can just tell him what they need. Yes, playing World of Warcraft while being a useful teammate without sight is not easy, needs a lot of training and experience but it is certainly doable. My blind guild mate was a way better healer than many of the random people I encountered during my time with World of Wa

Re: I'm having a problem with setting up difficulty settings with BGT

I dont have a lot of time to play around with this and see if I can find the problem but something did jump out at me. You dont have to use a do while loop when you call the run function for your menus. In fact, that might be causing the problem. if I am wrong, someone please correct me.For example, you wrote:int choice; // This stores the users menu selections.do{choice = menus.run(choose_an_item.wav, false); All you would have to do is:int choice; // This stores the users menu selections.choice = menus.run(choose_an_item.wav, false);or even more easily:int choice = menus.run(choose_an_item.wav, false); Then after the line of code above, then you could just start listing your conditions (what to do when a user selects a certain menu option). The dynamic menu class already takes care of making sure that the menu stays open until it is not needed anymore. Y
ou could try taking out your do loops to see if that fixes the problem.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161498#p161498

Re: bokurano daiboukenn 3

Could I get some hints on where to look for some of the secret weapons and items? Example: Ive got the yoyo, super yoyo, tripple yoyo, but not the hyper yoyo, which you need to make the ultra yoyo. And chaos flare cant think of where that would even be? Also the magical edge and piece of magic. As well as the huge iron ball that counts as a collection item and is somehow different from the huge iron balls that you can get as strategy items. A also cant think of where youd get a lump of iron for the rocket launcher. Any clues on these would be appreciated. Thanks.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161499#p161499

Hey awesome that those fatal errors are fixed. Found a new glitch in the latest link. In the grass in route 3, at the very end of the route, the only pokemon battle in the grass makes a Farfetchd sound and says wild level 0 male 0 appeared, attacking it works but says enemy 0 took 1 damage and after it faints your pokemon gains 0 experience even while the sound makes it sound like a lot of experience was gained. Strangely after the battle it doesnt crash, just resumes the game but after that the same thing is all that appears in the grass.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161513#p161513

You could try using compatibility mode - you set that by looking at the compatibility tab in the properties of the file. If it still wont work though, you might have to either resort to using a virtual machine or using another client like mushclient.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161514#p161514
