Some people find body language very challenging to learn or even master, and others find it quite easy.I know it might sound weird, but I was lucky to find some older people who just naturally without me requesting it, began to show and tell me about body language. My parents and sister who are all normally sighted have always talked about body language in natual ways, why shouldn't they? I have been in a mainstream school or whatever it's called as a kid, where i was the only blind kid on the whole school. So I have always felt body language very natually. I at mit I could have been much better at it though. I think some of those who are grown up in schools for blind find body language very challenging, because they might not be used to all people around them are doing it and are talking about it in natual ways.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173187#p173187

Re: Linux and Orca

Ambro, yes, with LibreOffice you should be able to make notes and a summary in Writer. Not sure why it is not working on your live CD, but it sounds like your accessibility flags aren't set correctly as LibreOffice 4.x is very accessible with Orca, and I know Vinux comes with a fairly up to date version of Orca.Wanderer, which version of Firefox are you running? I have found from personal experimentation that Firefox 24 is currently the best version for accessibility. The later versions such as version 25 and up all have accessibility issues which is why I refuse to upgrade until Mozilla gets their head out of their backsides and fix the stuff they broke. Web accessibility with Firefox right now seems to be a matter of getting the right version of Orca and the right version of Firefox to get a decent experience.Ambro, the reason you are getting links in a single line in Firefox is because that is the way it is actually displayed when a sighted person reads the screen. With screen readers like Jaws they load the screen into a buffer and reformats the links and stuff which means the presentation is altogether different from the way it looks visually. When the Orca developers etc were working on how to display links and text the Linux community chose to represent the information as close as possible to what a sighted person sees rather than reformatting everything the way Jaws does.Regarding the Launcher understand Unity and Gnome are two different desktops and not only do they look different they have different components. Gnome 3.x does not have a Launcher so when you press alt+f1 you are taken to the activities overview where you have to then alt+control+tab to the area of the screen you want. You aren't just dropped in a menu like the Launcher on Unity. There is a list of hot keys on the Gnome Live wiki which I think will help you because Gnome 3.10 is a fairly complex desktop if you don't know all the hot keys to get around to the various panels and menus. I can't seem to find the page I am looking for on Gnome Live, but here is a basic overview of the hot keys for Gnome shell on the Gnome Help site.https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help … ts.html.enURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173183#p173183

Re: shadow rine full voice version released

hello Bladestorm, I agree with your analysis, very smart. Shadow Line was born as a single player game, and probably does not have the characteristics to be a mm, since there are no classes but 4 characters that are actually fused into one. So in practice to make a MM should change the story or, for example, make one Shadow Line 2, in which the four characters are separated. At that point, however, a character like Lilia, who do not have any kind of attack, should be amended by inserting such magical attacks. So this is a whole different project, in which perhaps Entombed would approach something extra to a MM game, albeit from Shadow Line does not have the dungeon so beautiful and intricate. In short, a MM should be a fusion of Entombed, for the choice of classes, Shadow Line for the complexity of the dungeon, and Swamp to feature multiplayer. A dream? I know that a game so it will be very difficult to program, because we can not have professional  team who produce this type
of game, as is the case for the mainstream market. But, positive thing, now we have finally a rpg that can be compared, in his single player mode, with mainstream rpg, for its complexity and replay value.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173181#p173181

Re: help finding people to discuss something with

@cantorlot: Just as a gentle FYI, in case you didn't know, you meant "stigma", not "stigmata". I know lots of people get those words confused, but they mean really different things; stigmata means the bloody wounds that some Christians claim to manifest miraculously, in the places where the nails pierced the hands and feet of Jesus when he was crucified.  Stigma means a mark of shame.  So unless the MLP fandom is stranger than I ever imagined, the word you want is stigma.  Although, someone *did* write that Cupcakes fanfic, so a community devoted to pony crucifixion wouldn't really surprise me, unfortunately.  Also, there is this:http://www.fimfiction.net/story/37680/f … with-jesusso apparently Fluttershy and Jesus do hang in the same circles. Actually, Jesus kind of shows up surprisingly often in Equestria:http://www.fimfiction.net/story/18724/1 … chapter-18Why on earth did I ever Google for this?  Anyway, I had a point to posting, other than that nonsense.  What was...oh yeah!  Equestria Daily has some accessibility problems that might prevent you from participating: they use intense debate for there comments, and that system will often make you fill out a CAPTCHA before the comment will post, and WebVisum can't always solve it.  I only discovered that this morning, when I went to comment on the post I linked to in the other topic with the transcripts, to ask if anyone was going to do the new seasons. If I can get transcripts up to s4, I'll probably just give up and watch the show already. So I just emailed the address listed in the file instead.  Also, the links in the menu don't quite open right. For example, if you click community, the community links won't show up to NVDA as underneath the community link; you kind of have to go down a little bit and hunt for the new links. Also, clicking chat caused my Firefox to crash completely, so don't do that.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173171#p173171

2014-04-24 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — New releases room: bladestorm360

Re: shadow rine full voice version released

This post may have some spoilers.I just don't see it. The entire premise for the game is that you're a hero summoned to the world to save it, and there don't seem to be many other warriors around. Once the crisis is averted, I get the impression from the ending credits that things just return to normal. It'd be sort of like trying to turn Final Fantasy VII into an online game. I think it'd just lose all of it's structure and devolve into mindless killing, with possible missions for certain types of characters like soldiers. Everything that makes Final Fantasy VII good would be gone. The only reason World of Warcraft works is because the games really took the time to flesh out a world and several class types within the strategy games so they could actually turn it into an RPG. Shadow Line hasn't done that at all. It has a comparitively small world for one thing, and the 4 main characters end up in another world at the end of the game,
basically our world. There are brief mensions of things like the dragon priestess, who ends up being one of your characters, she had a sword before she ended up getting absorbed by Last Hope. But she was comparitively weak until she got that power, so probably wouldn't make much of a class type.On top of that there's the sword, Last Hope. There's only one of them, so who would get it? The entire point of the game is to unlock Last Hope's powers so that you can slay the demons that have basically taken over the world. Even if you took a Soul Calibur style approach and say that the sword had been broken into shards at some later point in the world's history and had people compete for them, then I think the game would just devolve into a giant PVP fest. And that doesn't sound like much fun to me.I think it's best to just leave Shadow Line as is, a single-player action RPG with a great storyline. Dungeon Attack will be their attempt at m
aking an online game, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out if it makes it to a release.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173170#p173170

Re: I have no passion in life

I read all the time, and I agree most books don't truly reflect life, but thanks to books I have a pretty good visual understanding of the world, body language etc, the problem though is that knowing something in theory and on paper, and experiencing it in reality are often not at all the same, or you won't notice in the moment when it's happening; flirting for example. Sometimes, at least in my age group, it seems those shallow relationships between people is all there is, and you're considered a "close friend" if you smile at someone enough or whatever. Of course I'm not seeing much of people's actual lives, so I know it's not true, just seems that way more often than not, when I'm observing social interaction. I'm not overly concerned with dress; as long as it fits, doesn't have holes and is comfortable, it's fine by me, and I'm not really interested in fitting in with a big group of people, so not that much
of an issue. I do sometimes get compliments for wearing nice things, but I've long ago given up obsessing over my appearance too much, for lack of any really noticeable results.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173169#p173169

2014-04-24 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: cantorlot

Re: help finding people to discuss something with

I'll preface this by saying that there are different things people discuss about this show. There's talk about what happens in the show, of course, but there's also a lot of talk about the show's schedule and direction ("when does the next season start" or "how many princesses will we end up with?" are some examples) and also talk about the show's creators (what they are doing, when are they making appearances and such). Since you've already visited Equestria Daily, you're probably pretty aware of this, or at least the perspect that website projects, which is pretty widely shared. The other thing to note is that the fandom is fairly large which means there are many groups that form within it. Each with their own appeal and own rules. And yes, sometimes even some rivalry between them. But I think this is a good thing because it gives you more of a choice as to where you want to go. I'll list some of the places I know
here but I'm sure there many others. And, this is probably already obvious, but I'm going to state the obvious a lot. Like right now. But that's because I don't know where you've been up to now.Ok, two more notes before I get down to the list. To answer your post in the other thread, Aaron, which I think these places are much nicer than the rest of the internet, I don't think they avoid misconceptions entirely. So if you've met people who thought that blind people can't use a computer, I think the truth is you'll still meet them there. However, since they may be fending stigmata of their own, they may be more willing to listen once you've explained. But from the get go, I think its inevitable that a number of participants think that way. Finally, my opinion will obviously seep through my description so I won't
try to hold back much. But just because I don't like some aspect of some site or other, it doesn't mean that you won't. Re: [Audiogames-reflector] help finding people to discuss something with

And if joining them is what makes you happy and is what you were looking for, by all means do it! Re: game

@cantorlot: Yeah, I saw those transcripts; without descriptions, they are not at all useful to me.  The ones for seasons 1 and 2 on EQD do have everything described.  In general, I don't consider that I can be part of the fandom for a TV show unless I can get a described transcript, and listen to the audio from the show while reading it. Because that's as close as a blind person can get to having the actual experience. Although even that isn't quite perfect, obviously, as I am still at the mercy of the transcribers interpretation of on-screen events.  The gold standard, of course, is to get hold of the screenplay as it was created by the writers of the show, though this is quite rare for TV shows, and much more common for movies. To clear up how I define being a fan, I mean that to be a fan of something, you must be able to have conversations about that thing on an equal footing with other fans.  For books, this is completely possible. For
TV shows and movies with good transcripts, this is mostly possible, so long as you keep in mind that you're "seeing" everything through the lens of the transcriber. For comics, this is almost never possible.  But keep in mind I am not saying that you have to be able to be a fan of something in order to enjoy it.  For example, I have, in the past, paid to have parts of The comic _Order Of The Stick_ (http://www.giantitp.com/Comics.html) transcribed, because the humour makes me laugh, and I like D&D.  But absolutely everything I know and like about _Order Of The Stick_ is second-hand, so I can't really say that I enjoy _Order Of The Stick_ itself.Edit: Changed "for comics, this is never possible" to "almost never".  Because, of course, there is Darths And Droids, where the author provides the transcriptions himself, and all of the images are screen captures
from the movies anyway, so I'm not really just exactly sure where that fits into my grand theory of everything.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173164#p173164

Re: game

@aaron: I don't think this is particularly off topic at all, but let me answer that in the topic you created so everything's in one place. (In a few minutes, that is. The time it takes me to type an answer.) Sorry to hear about your past experience and the uncertainly it created though.@Giovani / Marco: You're welcome! Glad that helped.@Naruto: Yes, its certainly possible to have it in other formats. I didn't get why the current form prevents it from being in schools though. Is it lack of internet access or some other restriction?@fastfinge's first post: That incident is really unfortunate, but if memory serve right, kids will find all kinds of reasons for bullying. So in that respect, I don't think this case is really special. The school's initial response was disappointing but again I think this happens all the time. Whenever something unfamiliar is presented, there's a chance of getting that kind of a reaction.
@fastfinge's second post: Well, you could look at the Wikia Wiki for descriptions of main and background characters. For example, there's a page for Lyra Heartstrings. But that page is stated rather matter-of-factly. This fan wiki has more of the fandom's interpretation. The fan wiki page on Lyra immediately talks about her sitting pose.Incidentally, the main wiki also has transcripts but it is only dialog and not descriptive. Here is a sample transcript for the pilot. As for fans, while I completely agree with your that the experience is different if you only get to listen to the show, I think different people have different prespective
of what being fan and being part of the fan community means. I think being a fan just means you like the show. Nothing more. And the the community is composed of fans so being one would allow you shape what that community is, to some extent. But I understand if to you it to mean something different. And since you've been reading up on those sites, this is sometimes the perception they give. Also, aside from writers, I believe the current fanbase has a number of musicians because of the exploding popularity of in-show musical numbers so you could always contribute there. And the same goes for voice actresses and actors. In any case, I don't think your opinion about fanfiction for example would be meaningless even if you didn't listen to an episode. Derivative work are often only loosely based on the original content anyway.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=1

Re: latin

Camochek, you don't seem to have understood what Tom and I said. It is not about  going to catholic,  lutheran, jewish or whatever worship so much as it is understanding  what people of those faiths beliefs and why they do what they do and think what they think. This is why the interfaith trip I mentioned was good, not just because we got to visit a sinagog, hindu temple etc, but because the various people who practiced the different religions explained them, their symboles, rituals and beliefs in detail. Just hearing a service won't do it. Imagine someone hearing a standard protistant service, well they'd hear lots of words about peace be with you, about christ asking people to take and eat his body, about people reciting that they believe in a ghost  etc. Without any context or understanding it would all  seem pretty loopy, and that is assuming that you actually understood the words of a service in the first place. If y
ou want to  understand more about what catholics  believe and what catholic practices are, well go and talk to a catholic! In britain there is an organization called the counsel for christians and jews, who I  know for a fact have branches in America and in Israil, as well as many other countries. Their focus  is to allow people of various different christian and jewish  denominations, progressive  orthodox and messianic  jews,  as well as most sorts of catholics and protestant christians to come together and discuss various beliefs and practices and differences of opinion in an open minded way. I'd suggest looking around for something similar where you are, and being prepared to listen to  other's opinions and considder them reasonably, and that yway you will learn more about  others, about belief and about yourself.URL: http:/

For each consecutive game you complete, whether you win or lose, your coin multiplier goes up, to a maximum of 3.0. This means you earn 3 times as many coins as you'd normally earn at max multiplier. It goes up by .2 per day, and if you miss a day, it resets. You gain coins whether you win or lose, so this is actually pretty cool.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173150#p173150

Re: Papa Sangre 2: Gyro Control

Well while I've not yet sat down and run seriously through papa2, I can say the gyro mode worked fine on my Iphone 5, though I have not tried any other I devices so can't speak for those. I thought it was one of the main features of the game. Indeed I'd be  disappointed if audio zombi arena or  some of  somethinelse other  future titles didn't have it as an option. I am a little surprised that blind testers of the game found the gyro mode of control less appealing, sinse one thing I like about it myself is the better simulation of realistic spacial positioning and the way I can use physical orientation of my body to add clues about positionin the game, eg, when I'm facing forward, right etc.  I also found it far closer to movement in reality using sound, and  I would've thought that people who made even more extensive use of sound in regular dayly navigation than I do would've found it even more natural.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173147#p173147

Re: game

@aaron: Yes, I agree that letting your imagination fly is a good thing. That's why I only read MLP fanfic myself, and have never, and never really intend to, watch the show.  However, without full transcripts, or described video, you cannot ever be a member of the My Little Pony fan community.  As a blind person, the experience that we get from listening to most TV shows is only half the experience, and I would say maybe even less than a quarter of the experience for cartoons.  So you can't discuss canon with fans, because most of the fan theories will have to do with the visual elements of the show, rather than the dialog.  Lyra is a perfect example of this. As I understand it, the fan idea that she is a fan of all things human has entirely! to do with the way she was drawn in a single frame, sitting on a bench human-style in season 1.  She doesn't even get any dialog until season 2, so without transcripts or descriptions, you wouldn't
even have known that she existed until a year after fans started talking about her.  Apparently, Vinyl Scratch is another example of this: she has no dialog, at all, ever, and yet hundreds of fanfics are written starring her.  So as a blind person, you cannot make any judgments about her character in canon, because you don't have any of the data that the fan community is using to make these judgments.  So, in my opinion, if I can't participate in the fan community, I can't really call myself a fan of the show, because my experiences of it will always be less valid than the experience of sighted viewers.  I know that isn't what you want to here, but I believe it to be an unfortunate truth.  But honestly, there are huge, gigantic volumes of excellent MLP fanfic out there for you to enjoy, and you're welcome to post reviews of it here or in other blindness oriented communities, I'm sure.  Even authors would probably be OK wit
h getting reviews on places like fimfiction. Personally, I avoid doing that, because I don't watch the show, so nothing I have to say about a fanfic about the show is at all meaningful.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173146#p173146

Hi,That depends on how much information you need. The storyline itself in most cartoons can be followed easy enough. Yes, you do miss out on the more visual gags and such, but there's enough dialog that you can tell what's going on story wise. If you just stick to described content then you miss quite a lot of great material. Luckily, more and more things are becoming described, at least here in the UK. For instance, we've got both Agents of Shield and The US version of the Tomorrow People being described weekly.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173144#p173144

2014-04-24 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — General Game Discussion: tward

Re: web browser games: interesting or boaring?

Well, I for one generally enjoy browser based games. They tend to be fairly in depth as far as a storyline goes, and they are cross-platform making them ideal for someone who doesn't necessarily use Windows all the time.In particular I have played Sryth quite a lot before the developer began adding various adventures that involve a lot of grinding to complete. Still, for what it is I can't think of many audio games that have the same amount of game play, as complex a storyline, and as many things to do as Sryth. As Dark said each game has its own strengths and weaknesses and I don't think one can simply say all browser based games are boring, are this way or that, because they are all a bit different. Kingdom of Loathing, for example, is worth a few laughs because there is a lot of humor involved in the text descriptions. Core Exiles is a great game if you are into trading and economics. The Wrestling Game is a decent text based wrestling game if you ar
e interested in managing a wrestling federation and playing wrestling matches. There is no one size fits all browser game out there, but neither should they all be good or bad just like anything else.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173135#p173135

There may be an error message above a question telling you that you need to answer it. [Audiogames-reflector] game development roadmap survey

2014-04-24 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — General Game Discussion: keyIsFull

game development roadmap survey

Hi, I am starting a new game development company with some friends. We have created a survey which we encourage all community members to answer, about what kinds of games they like to play, and other things of that sort. Please, only 1 response per computer. You can also give this link to other friends of yours who may not read this forum but who still play or have an interest in games and game development. Make sure you click the submit button, not the save button, when finished. THe save buton lets you go back to it later and change your answers.By answering these questions, you are helping us to create high quality games that you like to play as much as we like to develop. So answer the questions to the best of your ability. The link is:http://www.surveyface.com/study/Your-pr … 73.php?l=yURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173120#p173120

Re: game development roadmap survey

Hi, I have given my vote. And I have a request. Please don't do those games like you did to extreme damage. Man that game was cool, but it was ruined when you didn't make it compatible to the latest version of bgt. And, if you have fixed it already, can you send it? I remember trying a link, but it was broken.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173121#p173121

Re: simular series to the wheel of time

Sadly Slj the Uk version of   game of thrones doesn't have description on it's dvds, which is very irritating and quite odd given that heroes (which I believe was also an hbo  series), did. However my brother checked out the options on the dvds when we started  watching and no, there is no audio description at all.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173119#p173119

Re: Echo Here to play IOS game

I actually believe there was a topic about this in new releases room a while back,  but I don't  think people checked it out, I know I didn't. Actually  from your detailed description the  game sounds reat. Sixth sense is a very standard arcade game, but the analogue control with the finger sliding makes it much more unique, I suspect this ecco game you mention is the  same. I'll have to give it a try sinse it certainly sounds well worth the price, heck here in the Uk 69 pence (which  is what I guess the Uk price to be), is   roughly what you would spend on a mars bar, and the game sounds like more fun than a mars bar .URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173118#p173118

Re: web browser games: interesting or boaring?

Funnily enough shut eye I'm exactly the oposite.  I'd love to play a single player civ or exploration stratogy game, but I have no interest in building something just for it to be  destroyed by another player, but as I said this is why there isn't particularly a one word  answer or  brwoser games sinse it depends very much on what each person wants in a game.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173117#p173117

Re: lets play

i am not really familiar with total sound recorder. I use sound tap streaming audio recorder. But, that only works for windows 7. If you have seven, i recommend getting that. If you do, i just set to record with mike and then set the input to reck mike. but it all depends on what tipe of sound card you have to be honest.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173115#p173115

Re: my created sounds

hii don't mean to sound like a jerk or anything. But, i listened to your second sound thing, and half of those are recycled sounds from swamp, road to rage, and alter aeon. if your planning to just pay around and make cool seens with random sounds that you found, thats cool, but its not really sound developing. Sound developing is technically where you create your own sounds. But it still sounds good.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=173114#p173114
